What the hell is this pissing contest about the semantics of what constitutes a civil war? Innocents are getting blown up regardless. It’s not as if there’s an official government stamp of approval signifying CIVIL WAR and then we send in the big guns and really good troops and decide to get serious or we pull out lock, stock and gun barrel.
This is ridiculous. Who else is going to join the stage? What about the Pope? The Popo hasn’t said anything, so it’s quite not so sure whether it’s a civil war or not. Civil war. Hmm. Isn’t that were civilians are fighting. That’s an important distinction right there. Whether You get blown up or maimed by Military personnel or a civilian fighter does make a difference, doesn’t it? Not that it would change anything about You being dead…
First of all #3 the “insane” thing was starting this war in the first place.
Second of all, from your link, “In Afghanistan in 2001, we entered a long running civil war between the Taliban and the Northern Alliance and helped the good guys to decisive victory within a matter of weeks.” - okay - who are the “good” guys in Iraq?
Not that I disagree with him or anything, but this is the guy that would have us believe he didn’t know the definition of ‘alone’ or ‘is’ and that oral sex wasn’t adultery. Sorry, Billy. Please stay off my side.
IMO, the distinction “civil war” vs any other label is important. Admitting to a civil war means recognizing that the people of Iraq are battling each other over control of their country, leaving the US with no clear role. Any other label leaves BushCo the opportunity to promote the “clear” US role of “bringing democracy” to a country being attacked by outside “bad guys”.
The pouting dwarf-in-chief will never admit that he f*cked up. Instead he will build his own $ 500 Million library with stories and pictures of him about what a great leader he is/was. Maybe there are some cardboard images of historical persons where You can stick Your own head through. Like Attila or Genghis Khan.
The little guy needs a straight jacket.
How could some guy from Arkansas who got a bj know what a civil war is? Come on, you guys, let’s let really qualified guys like Bill O’Reilly tell us what civil wars are and aren’t!
#12. You’re obviously not a lawyer. Any Dem who doesn’t want Bill on our side does not understand politics.

There goes another one…. unless that was sarcasm. Walked into the tree without even seeing it. Wow. Why is it natural to assume that if I dislike Republicans, I must be a Democrat?
if BJ Bill had stood up to the Israelis there would be no Iraqi disaster today. But BJ Bill in a moment of weakened flesh acquiesed to the Mossad agent Lewinsky and the rest is history……
Call me naive or stupid but I sense the whole purpose of Baker’s Iraq Study Group is to make Iraq a place to do business again. The group was formed in March, ‘06, right about when Bechtel, Blackwater, etc. started considering pulling out of Iraq. It wasn’t the midterms that have brought all this grasping for alternatives about. Rummy’s firing is just so much misdirection. By now, Iraq was supposed to be a contractors’ paradise, that is hasn’t turned out that way is pissing off some major corporate donors (yes, to both parties). As we know with China, Russia, Indonesia, etc., “stability” trumps “democracy as far as corporations are concerned. That is now the template for Iraq.
#28 - Jason Baddo,
WJC had focused on solving the Palestinian conflict, just before he left office, and had actually forged an agreement which Yassar Arafat shied from at the last moment. When the Cheney administration took over, the entire process was savaged. In turn, Cheney ignored warnings from the prior administration about bin Laden and stood down the North American Defense command on 9/11/2001. Why aircraft capable of flying at 1500 miles per hour could not approach a target 200 miles away in half an hour is simply incredible!
The hate shown by some Republicans is the same emotional narrow-mindedness that is the cause of the problems.
I do not “hate” the Neocons like him and the other hard core religious zealots in the world, I really feel sorry they cannot see beyond their own hate.
We do not belong in Iraq; We were lied to by our President, the Republican party did nothing when the WMD promises were shown to be lies.
I feel a personal “lie” about someone’s sex life is not as bad a a lie that causes over a 1/4 million deaths.
We’ll have to take Clinton’s word for it.
He’s educated enough to understand that
there are multiple definitions of what “is” is,
so it follows that he should know about the
phrase, “civil war”.
I happen to partially agree with him, but to just go
public to say it is a civil war is not helpful. But being
helpful is not his intention. Seems to me he’s
working the politics in the domestic arena.
Thanks Bill.
This “civil war” is much different than other civil
wars we’ve studied about, and the criteria Bill
says it meets, would be interesting to find out.
Maybe someday the press will not be in such a
frantic hurry, and ask those types of questions.
Don’t hold your breath. It’s a sound bite industry.
It’s like a civil war because of the militias. And some
of the key militias are being supported by Iraq’s
neighbors. I suspect that this support is the dominant
driving force in the violence in Iraq, that which isn’t
perpetrated by al Qaeda. One of those supporters
is Hezbollah, which is a puppet of the Ayatollah.
So, to call this struggle a civil war is not exactly
accurate, is it? Maybe it would be better to avoid
the semantics and actually discuss what to do about
Iraq’s neighbors, who are the aggressors in this fight.
Everyone but Bush understands this.

November 30th, 2006 at 1:12 pmTell it to our current president — Blown off by al Maliki, determined to ignore the findings of the ISG, the Moron in Chief seems to be in full battle mode. Heck, why not send a few more troops? More troops here, more troops there, and pretty soon you’re talking a real war. Bring it on!
A weary, reluctant nation may be forced to impeach him after all, just because it seems to be the only way to stop the carnage.
