Media Matters: “On the same day that President Bush said, ‘We’re going to stay in Iraq to get the job done,’ MSNBC correspondent Jeannie Ohm described the reported forthcoming recommendation by the Iraq Study Group for a phased withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq as ‘similar to what the president has been saying.’”

It’s Newspeak…

November 30th, 2006 at 9:51 pmJust ignore and pity the fool, stonehinge.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:46 pmSomeone needs to start breaking their pills in half.
November 30th, 2006 at 10:47 pmRen, I left you some useful information concerning the Mayan calendar in the previous thread. With that done, I’m gonna plow under the covers ’til morning — it’s 17degF here.
Well, not just yet:
The background on the Iraqi Study Group turned up today. It is rather disheartening to see that the ISG is actually sponsored by the US Institute for Peace, which itself is populated by the worst slags you could possibly drag-up from the Cold War era. In addition to James Baker and Lee Hamilton, the directors include Edwin Meese, Lawrence Eagleberger, William Perry, Vernon Jordan, Sandra Day O’Connor (like wtf?), Allan Simpson, and even goofball slags like Chuck Robb and Leon Panetta. The details can be seen here. Sorry to say, but with that kind of political heritage, there is no way the ISG has the vision or intent to “move-forward” into the new millenium…this is strictly business-as-usual, at least for the immediate future.
November 30th, 2006 at 11:31 pmren,
I hope you don’t get caught up in the sweep I just requested by TP. Oops.
November 30th, 2006 at 11:42 pmj, I’m here.

December 1st, 2006 at 12:25 amNow that’s funny!!
from #24
“…Democrat policy is designed to reward failure…â€
If this is true, than Georgie the Decider has the mother of all rewards coming his way in the lifetime achievement catagory.
December 1st, 2006 at 1:01 amActually, I think the study group is saying what the president has been saying. The group reccommends a phased withdrawl by 2008! It just so happens that 2008 is when Bush leaves office. Funny how Bush wants to keep the troops in Iraq and the study group wants a military presence until 2008. Yeah, we’ll step down our involvement and there probably wont be that many troops by then, but the schedule will be subject to manipulation and interference from the Republicans in congress, so the irony is that with a phased withdrawl by the time Bush is out of office is liable to keep our troops there longer than if we just let Bush do what he wants until he’s deposed and then bring ALL the troops home.
So in a twisted way, MSNBC is correct, the Bush plan IS like the Study Groups plan.
December 1st, 2006 at 7:24 amThus I am again left with only two possibilities: either Democrats hate America because they believe the lies they are spewing or they are spewing the lies because they hate America.

It all comes down to who you think is telling the truth. Iraq had no ties to Al-Queda before we invaded. Bush said they did. There were no WMDs in Iraq. Bush said there were. The war dragged on for longer than WWII and there’s no end in sight. Bush said it would be over quickly. All our generals in Iraq now say that more troops isn’t the answer, Bush says it is.
Either Bush is a liar, or he’s incompetent. Either way, his time is over. We need to minimize the damage now.
December 1st, 2006 at 7:40 amIt’s similar to wirhdrawal, only without removin’ the troops.
If you imaginge John Stewart doning his shrub imitaion that line is funny
December 1st, 2006 at 8:07 amIt’s all in the euphamism. We just needed to call withdrawal something else, besides redeployment, and w would be all for it.
December 1st, 2006 at 10:18 amYes it is similiar…on a galactic scale, all of the US Troops remain on the planet indefinately, therefore it is similar.
If that’s not a stretch, I don’t know what is.
December 1st, 2006 at 10:30 amI wish TP would control all these long spam posts that keep getting repeated and let someone who actually has something meaningful to say, like BnF, to actually post.
December 1st, 2006 at 10:31 amI AGREE!
December 1st, 2006 at 1:52 pmI do believe that he keeps making it clear over and over again, by stating that that’s NOT what he’s for.
He’s gonna stay the course! How many ways does he have to say it? He’s gonna ignore them, and ignore me, and ignore you!
Who’s surprised here?
