Worst. President. Ever.

By Nico Pitney on Dec 2nd, 2006 at 7:15 pm

Worst. President. Ever.»

Eric Foner, professor of history at Columbia University, in the Washington Post: “Historians are loath to predict the future. It is impossible to say with certainty how Bush will be ranked in, say, 2050. But somehow, in his first six years in office he has managed to combine the lapses of leadership, misguided policies and abuse of power of his failed predecessors. I think there is no alternative but to rank him as the worst president in U.S. history.”

    What a legacy

  2. AshenShard Says:

now isn’t that funny, I just read one of Foner’s books for class.

and going back to the funds being raised for the bush presidential library, it doesn’t matter how many people are hired to gloss over his failures. real historians who know how bad this president is are going to be writing about his failed presidency, and it is their work that really matters.

  3. pethr Says:

    This isn’t news… :-D Wait, it’s not funny either. :o(

I am a history buff and when something is so obvious as this, you don’t have to predict. It doesn’t take a phd to know Bush is a disaster.

just think of all the phd students who are going to be writing their dissertations on this buffoon of a president. oh man, if anything the incompetence of his presidency has given a boost to political and history phd students who will have a glut of topics focusing on the bush presidency and legacy to write about for the coming decades at the very least.

Make this ‘The Worsterest’ (So Far)

I smirked when The Economist ran an article about how the Prez still has two years to leave a meanginful legacy (”The incredible shrinking presidency” Nov 9th 2006). They never have harsh words. Back in 2000, they tried to find Good in “Compassionate Conservatism”. Ah well…

Most, however, depends on Mr Bush’s willingness to change his ways. A smaller presidency might be a still more defensive, inward-looking one. That would be an understandable reaction to this week’s “thumpin’” (as he called it), but wrong. As things stand, Mr Bush will go down in history as a president who promised much but achieved little. He has two years to change posterity’s mind.

    Confirming the obvious …

Anyone who’s spent any time reading right wing blogs already understood this to be true:

Lohse, a social work master’s student at Southern Connecticut State University, says he has proven what many progressives have probably suspected for years: a direct link between mental illness and support for President Bush.

Lohse says his study is no joke. The thesis draws on a survey of 69 psychiatric outpatients in three Connecticut locations during the 2004 presidential election. Lohse’s study, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, found a correlation between the severity of a person’s psychosis and their preferences for president: The more psychotic the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Bush.

    Bush’s The Worst Ever

On 9/11, nearly three thousand people died ghastly deaths and tens of billions of dollars in damage were incurred.

To stave off another attack Bush, invades Iraq BUT inadvertently fathers a burgeoning Shiite fundamentalist republic which has long standing ties to the extremist mullahs of Iran at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives and no less than $400 billion.

In short: 9/11 + Iraq = Bush’s Fundamentalist Islamic Republic

I am ashamed that my Country allowed such a fraud to be perpetrated on the World and proud that I had some small part, albeit one vote, in bringing the useless crazy bastard down. Last year, it logged more miles than the remainder of the United States Air Force.

  39. RealityCheck Says:

The good news is that Bush appears checkmated. If he supports the Shiites, he strengthens Iran; if he supports the Sunnis he gets asked to leave Iraq. If he follows his Dad’s advice via the Baker commission he will have his surrogate daddy, Dick, mad at him. If he follows the Baker commission he will be breaking with Dick, which is close to inconceivable, since I don’t think George has had an original thought in his life. At home, if he vetos minimum wage and Democratic attempts to reign in Iraq spending supplementals, Repugnicants will bail on him, thinking to save their slimy asses in ‘08. Who’s going to support him in attacking Iran? The neocons are all busy pretending they never knew him…

“In July 2002, a month before Mr Bush delivered a key speech on bringing democracy to the Middle East, a number of heavyweights - including Vice-President Dick Cheney and Deputy Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz - attended a conference addressed by Mr Sharansky.

Mr Bush’s speech had already been written, but according to the Pentagon’s Richard Perle, cited by Newsweek magazine, “Sharansky provided an important bit of last minute affirmation”.

Now with the book in hand, Mr Bush has described it as summarising “how I feel”, and has urged people to read it. ”

Now stop being such a pompous, know it all ass.

    #63, RUCerious

i see your point… i am simply pointing out that
Sharansky is too late to have influenced Mr Wolfowitz who may or may have not devoured the book.

Mr Wolfowitz is one who influences and not one who is influenced.

This link indicates they are maybe sibling…

So Sharansky’s influence represents a closing of the circle for the neocons who began battling for their ideas in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Sharansky himself says it is all a continuum, including the cast of characters, among them Abrams, Perle, Defense Department senior officials Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith and Cheney’s chief of staff, Scooter Libby. “If you check their background, most of them were connected either to Senator Jackson or to the Reagan administration or to both,” says Sharansky. “And that’s why, by the way, many of them are my friends from those years. And in the last 15 years, we kept talking to one another.”

My point (and we can agree to disagree on this) is that people do not stop being influenced throughout their lives…

I am continually surprised and disappointed by comparisons of Bush with Hitler. Although dangerous, Bush pales in comparison because…..

    1. Hitler’s politics, government, and leadership albeit criminally wrong, was somewhat competent.

    2. Hilter actually fought in a war (WW I), unlike the coward Bush.
    3. If Bush ran Germany in the 30’s and had a goal to rid the world of Jews, Blacks and any others that the Nazi/Aryans believed were inferior…..
    A. The Schwartwald would have been declared an Axis of Evil.
    B. Germany would have surrendered to the inferiors and split into 3-4 parts;
    C. there would have been no German economic recovery out of the Great Depression except for his rish friends;
    D. the peasants would have rushed the house of Bush (i.e. Frankenstein) and all his cronies.
    E. Neville Chamberlain would have beat him in an arm-wrestling contest.

If not the worst, surely the most incompetent of all presidents.

  65. John Gilpins Says:

    DonD,

You beat me to what I was going to write. Darn!

Oh well, here’s a little of what I was going to write. Contrary to what you believe, one Presidential Library will have a new home state:

The George W. Bush Presidential Library
    123 Incompetent Lane
    Suite Number–IQ 13
    LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS

You know— LEAVENWORTH, as in prison.

Wait until Rep. Henry Waxman starts his investigations. As a conservative estimate, I would guess tens and tens of folks, linked to the Bush administration, are going to be spending a little time behind bars at Leavenworth. In fact, many in the Bush family may be calling Leavenworth home.

It’s quite interesting to note that the famed MENNINGER CLINIC, the nationally-known mental health clinic once-located in Topeka, Kansas relocated to Houston Texas a few yeas ago.

Why would the Menninger Cinic relocate to Texas? Why would the Menninger Clinic specifically relocate to Houston. You got! The mentallly ill Bush’s. Mental illness runs in the Bush family. Yes, the Pelps’ family, of Topeka, may be nuts, but they can’t hold a candle to the Bush’s. Not even close.

I fully expect the Menninger Clinic to relcoate back to Kansas when half of the Bush family is behind bars at Leavenworth.

Here’s the kicker. Around six to seven Phelps’ family members work for the State of Kansas–a few in the prison system. THIS IS HILARIOUS. Can you imagine Phelps’ family members being the prison guards to George W Bush, Neil Bush, 41, and a few others.

I sincerely hope Jeff Gannon is one prison cell down from George W. LET’S JUST SAY, GEORGE W. DIED AND HE WENT TO HEAVEN, WITH JEFF GANNON LIVING IN THE NEXT PRISON CELL. At Leavenworth, Jeff doesn’t have to sign in at the White House front desk, he doesn’t have to sneak in through the back door, and he doesn’t have to sneak in when Laura is out-of-town.

The most ideal situation would be to have Karl Rove sandwiched in between prison cells– between George W. and Jeff Gannon. Remember Karl Rove’s words when he was first introduced to George W. Bush, “IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT.” No doubt, it was love at first sight when Karl was introduced to, Jeff Gannon.

When one really thinks things over, Laura may not be out-of-town all all. In fact, she may be in Leavenworth, too. I don’t care what anyone says; something ain’t right with her high school car accident. Henry Waxman should open an investigation. He really should because a life was lost, and the police ignored incriminating evidence.

    John

    Paul,

The press was in a precarious position. They didn’t want to come down too hard on Bush a year or two after September 11, 2001 as our nation was in a state of mourning.

Then, too, there’s the issue of selling papers. Ditto for television revenue. A good third, or more, of the electorate are conservative-leaning folks. Newsweek and Time, once in a while, did have a lead cover story about Billy Graham, and Ted Haggard. One of their bottom lines is making a buck. They couldn’t alienate too many of these conservative folks, and still make a buck.

Since the election, things are changing at a face pace. I dare say that Billy Graham is now more of a villian in many peoples’ eyes than Hillary Clinton. Hillary’s star power is growing day-by-day. Christian fundamentalists’ star power has diminished. Bye! Bye!

    Well, I’ll tell you.

    Well, here it goes.

Well, Ronald Reagan CHOPPED wood in his spare time.

George W. Bush wraps his CHOPS around wood in his spare time.

  93. Bruce Gorton Says:

Not only is w. the worst president in history, I predict he will be the worst we will EVER HAVE, just as Hitler was and will ever be the worst leader for Germany.

    Comment by Uncle_Ho — December 2, 2006 @ 9:40 pm

Only if Bush gets impeached, convicted and tried as a war criminal. The legacy of GW Bush is part stuff-up, part precedent. The stuff-up can be fixed by just never voting for another “conservative” again, the precedent is far more dangerous. If Bush can get away with this much, what makes you think someone with a functional brain won’t get away with much, much more?

  94. jimbo Says:

all about crooks… cronyism, corruption, lies and more lies
ABSOLUTELY the worst president ever and a TOTALLY
corrupted congress entrusted for every $1 you make
you get half and we get half. enough to make you
    PUKE :(

  95. Jericho Says:

Worst president ever, maybe, if the US decides to wise up, but the picture is not that bright in my view. Greed, racism, international injustice and xenophobia are still on the rise. Perhaps the only progress we made was in the field of ignorance. Politics is definately back in focus, and politicians are watched closely. The public is gaining wisdom on issues like global warming, environmental pollution, international affairs and conventions, human rights,…. Keep reading those papers and keep that skeptic eye.

So Bush’s legacy hinges on Iraq, which is an unmitigated disaster. Instead of being forgiven, like Polk and McKinley, for his phony pretext for war (WMD and al-Qaeda operatives in Baghdad), he stands to be lambasted by future scholars. What once were his two best sound bites — “Wanted dead or alive” and “Mission accomplished” — will be used like billy clubs to shatter his legacy every time it gets a revisionist lift. The left will keep battering him for warmongering while the right will remember its outrage that he didn’t send enough battalions to Iraq.

  99. Keith Says:

I also think what he has done to the budget deficit is a huge crime. They set out to bankrupt the federal treasury so they could then say about all sorts of social programs — “we can no longer afford that” — all they have done for the last six years is reward their friends with massive tax cuts.

  100. Tobey Tall Says:

Not only is he the worst president ever …………he is also the biggest killer of the 21st century, toturer and thief ever known

  101. Joefriday Says:

Off topic- There are many great TP posters from around the world. Question-does anyone have any insight on the Litvinenko deal. If he was targeted to be killed why go to so much trouble to use Polonium-210 ? Are they the same people that killed Anna Politkovskaya? Did Litvinenko accidental kill himself miss handling the Polonium? and if so what was he going to do with it?

  102. Bruce Gorton Says:

    Joefriday

That story has me feeling that there is a far bigger one on the way. I am not sure what the truth of the matter is, but I feel that Litvinenko was just the tip of the iceberg.

  103. Sandy Says:

How about worst Evangelical voters ever; worst neocon (for lack of a better term) voters ever; worst Congress ever; worst Supreme Court ever! Bush didn’t do it alone. 50% of the voters supported this man and administration. I think 50% of the US voters owe us an apology and return their tax cuts!

  104. SouthWest Bob Says:

The reality is that this is a failed man, who has had did tracks covered his entire life. He now actually believes all the lies about him and what makes matters worst, he now believe that anything negaive about what he does or if the outcome of his actions are viewed a negative, that it’s not his fault. He will not change in his life time. The only reason he has “friends” is because he has power. He will be a non-person as soon as he leaves office. Except we hope in front of the various world courts where he will be tired for all his crimes.

  105. GSD Says:

Putin asked Bush what was the best way to intimidate political opponants and Bush said:

  107. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Anyone really notice the title of this thread?

    Worst. President. Ever.

A brilliant bit of writing: only William Shatner could play Commander-in-Chief Bush should they ever get around to making the movie:

no offence, zoo, but it’s gotta have “substance” to sell…
i am actually serious about this… (i think)

  113. ForTruth Says:

4 out of 4 surveyed in my home agree, Bush is the worst President ever.

  114. Marie Says:

Five editorials in Sunday’s edition of The Washington Post argue whether or not George W. Bush is the worst president ever.
Foner’s was only one of them. Some that don’t rate him the worst, still put him pretty close to it.
We are witness to this historical marker - our president is going down as the worst in our nation’s history; a shameful blot.
Our grandchildren will ask us to explain - and future generations will hold Americans of today responsible for being in denial until it was too late.

  115. katy Says:

i like that sauce idea… we could sell it in the library gift shop. remember all your gifts are tax-deductibvle.

what’s this “we” talk, sir? … i’m afraid you wouldn’t approve of my idea for the label… wouldn’t go over well at all in your library… and the thought of YOU making any kind of profit from it is off limits… sorry…

send some of that worstester sauce down to me…

I’m still trying to figure out where you can get ahold of some of that “liquid stupid” Zooey mentioned! But if we can find that, then I might recommend:

    worster = DUMBERYA
    worsterest = DUMBERESTYA
    worstesterest = DUMBESTERESTYA

  122. katy Says:

“liquid stupid” … i don’t think that would sell well…
it’s readily available free of charge…
oh yea… the “liquid” part… well, that might be a trick…

    and, “dumberya…”… now it’s REALLY getting complicated…!

  123. Marie Says:

Your “liquid stupid” worsterest sauce could be sold with something on another thread here, called “Bush’s bubbles.”
If all this wasn’t so pathetically horrible, it could be a lot of fun thinking up Bush products and marketing them.

  124. Briseadh na Faire Says:

Well, Marie, there could be the Mark Foley special edition Daily Planner: Every day you get to fill in a new page!

Then there’s the NeoCon SUV. It only makes right turns.

Could it be: Is the Hoover Vaccuum Cleaner Company is applying for a name change?

Bush Light Bulbs: they consume a temendous amount of energy, but produce no light. It’s a perfect combination of boosting energy company’s profits while keeping consumers in the dark.

Bush Toilet Paper: actual parchment, and printed with a copy of the United States Constitution on every roll.

  125. Marie Says:

I am LOL!!! I enjoy your wit.
Will your store be local or will you be marketing these on line?
I particularly love the SUV, and the Foley planner with a page for each day.

  126. phillip crowley Says:

    Something to think about.

Look for national power and telephone outages in 08. Then a pronouncement of martial law because of the ficticous “faux” terrorists.Followed by “suspended elections” until further notice. If you keep people cold and hungry long enough, they will fall in line.

Do you really believe this little weasel and the other “Bush 41& sons” are going to give anything up? I just don`t see them giving up the “prime seat” by any stretch of the imagination.

I think we will see alot more “air accidents” involving democratic senators either before 08 or after. You know how the Bush`s are, having to “thin the field” a little to make it work for them in all 3 branches.

Or perhaps alot of democratic senators will run into “plutonium 210″ /cancer/rolling parked cars “accidents” and “suicides”along the way.Who knows about these evil bastards.(BushCo)

We are ripe for an oligarchy people. And I hope I am just plain wrong.
But given the record of BushCo,I wouldn`t put anything past them.
And what if anything could the American people do about it?Nothing.

I think American troops would have a very hard time,if even at all “killing their own” but I can assure you,UN troops would not!If Bush has done nothing else, he has made the whole world lust for American blood.

And as we know in the UN “money talks.”

Very sad and very scary at the same time.

  130. Ivo Moelans Says:

Question: when are the democrats going to grow some balls and expose this fraud and realize you can’t work in a bipartisan way with these criminals? Why can’t they simply state the truth and say: “You are repugnant criminals, you have soiled what was left of your national honor and we are going to try to undo everything you did for the last six years and we are going to prosecute the hell out of you”.
