Bush avoiding legacy talk?

U.S. News writes, “The Bushies aren’t eager to start talking legacy about their prez yet. ‘Really,’ says one, ‘he’s not obsessed with his legacy.’ … ‘His legacy won’t be written for 50 years,’ shrugs an ally, ‘and, anyway, there’s nothing we can do about it now.’”

‘and, anyway, there’s nothing we can do about it now.’”

    Oh yes there is!!!
I’ll give you a little hint:
It’s the follow up to an investigation of responsibility
    It involves a hearing
It starts with an IM, ends with a MENT and has a PEACH in the middle!

  2. john o. says:

I’d avoid talking about my legacy too if my efforts were as incompetent and my hands as bloodstained as shrub’s.

If Bushies think there is nothing to do about this then Dubya is already quacking like the lame duck he is.

  4. BD3 says:

Gee . . . I could swear that I read something just last week about the incredible expense expected of the Dubya library and how they are going to hire bring in all kind of political hacks from the thinktanks to rewrite history in his favor.
Thank god he’s not worried about his legacy.
This is just one more attempt to show how they are nothing like that vane Bill Clinton when in reality they are one thousands times worse.

  5. Rosencrantz says:

What this means is that it will take the conservatives roughly 50 years of constantly repeating the message of Bush’s greatness before the population forgets the truth and believes the repetitive lie.

Just like how Reagan suddenly became the greatest President in history, how the media became liberal and how democrats became “tax and spenders” while conservatives were the “fiscally responsible.”

Mark my words. The conservative are going to slowly but persistantly float the message that Bush is one of the greatest Presidents ever. The message will be so persistant that people will confuse it for common knowledge. This has been their method in the past.

  6. mparker says:

GEORGE BUSH’S LEGACY WILL BE WRITTEN BY A COURT REPORTER COPYING HIS STRAINED PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR TESTIMONY UNDER OATH DURING HIS TRIAL FOR WAR CRIMES.

  7. dlet says:

‘and, anyway, there’s nothing we can do about it now.’”

That little slip of defeatist talk says a lot of what is on their minds. If there are two years left in a presidency you can do alot. Say end the Iraq war, do some good in Afghanistan where you should have been concentrating in the first place, make the Israel/Palestine peace work, fix the things that you broke or made worse like the tax system, education, environment, etc. Those are the things that he could do….but won’t ’cause he’s an idiot.

  8. ForTruth says:

That is what will happen at the Historical Society when the Bush legacy is flashed on the screen for consideration by the historians.

  12. Pity The Fool says:

Bush claiming to not be obsessed with planning his legacy means, of course, that he is absolutely obsessed with planning his legacy. Hence why everything else is spiralling out of control.

Where have you been? They’ve been doing that for a couple years now. It’s a persistant buzzing in the ears of the public. He’s competing for worst president in History and the Republicans still talk about him like he’s the second coming. It’s like Time Magazines Man of the Year competition. They’re confusing impact with moral fiber. Hitler got Man of the Year. I’d say he had a pretty heavy impact on the 1930’s and 40’s. I think Bush had a pretty good impact on the beginning of the century. Technically I suppose he’s both the best president AND the worst president of the millineum :)

  15. upside00 says:

And why should this legacy be any different than his attempts at running an oil company or two (into the ground) or almost “hit and running” the Rangers baseball team into bankruptcy and coddling known steroid users.

Will Daddy be able to bail him out of this fine mess, I wonder?

A final thought…… wonder why Dubya ain’t considering Yale for his half a billion bigones library? Maybe they would love to get their sheepskin back and return Daddy’s money for that, too.

I’m an optimist, but I can’t go along with that. All the Republicans who kicked themselves for voting for Bush will come running back the first time the Democrats step on their crank. Besides, as much as some people here don’t want to admit it, the Republicans are better at spin and mud-slinging than the Democrats are.

Don’t get me wrong. The Republicans lost bigtime in this last election, and will probably lose some more in the next, but it won’t last.

  27. chimpeach says:

‘His legacy won’t be written for 50 years,’

Oh yes, that’s the way it’s usually done in this country. There’s a total blackout of historical text written about a president until after he’s been out of office for 50 years or so. And by then, it’s doubtful that anyone could remember what a lousy president he was. I’m sure history will look kindly on good ol’ Dubya through the backwards telescope of faded memory and right-wing echo chambers. After all, it would take something like an impeachment or perhaps war crimes tribunals to leave a mark that couldn’t be scrubbed from the Congressional Record or the historical archives in libraries around the world. And what are the chances of that happening? Heh.

  28. chimpeach says:

Besides, as much as some people here don’t want to admit it, the Republicans are better at spin and mud-slinging than the Democrats are.

That sounds like pre-11/7 thinking. Define “better”. They do it more often than Dems and they used to be successful at it, but it’s not working for them anymore.

Perhaps Disney would be willing to sell Fantasyland as a locale to keep W’s legacy. The facility in Anaheim is on prime land now and with the half billion plus what Disney Corp. would get for the balance of the park would more than pay for a much better park located on cheap land near Needles, CA. Laura and W could move into Cinderella’s Castle and live like royalty.

First leader in history to cut taxes during a war. First administration to ruin an intelligence asset for political purposes… I’m sure others here have more to add. But, it all adds up to the worst president in history.

The Surreal Politics of Premeditated War
    by R.W. Behan

George W. Bush, who proudly claimed the mantle of “war president,” was keenly rebuked in the recent mid-term election. The event was notable, but it merely continued the surreal politics of premeditated war—a politics that has dominated the last six bizarre, hideous years of our nation’s history.

Actually, that has been American SOP for quite some time…Phillipines, Germany, Korea, and Vietnam, if they hadn’t kicked our ass. Am I missing some subtle point here?
