in response to #19 your refrence to the argumentum ad hominem it is a fallacy, but it's not just progressive. in fact your refrence to the argument style is a fallacy in itself. it's the argument style used here, but not the only kind of argument used by"progressives". now that i think about it don't conservatives use the same argument about the war? the argument there is that they are against us therefore they are bad...us versus them arguments are usually a fallacy... just an observaton.

Global warming is not true!

I was praying to God one night and I said... "God... you know you my dog. I want to know if Global Warming is true. Evil-Doers like Al Gore keep talking about Global Warming, but George Bush, who I know is a close personal friend of yours, says it isn't true. So, can you help me? If Global Warming is real, give me a sign by helping me win the lotto tomorrow. If Al Gore is the reincarnation of Hitler, then give me a sign by having me not match any numbers."

And guess what happened?
<a href="http://liberalsmustdie.com/Home/tabid/36/EntryID/154/Default.aspx" rel="nofollow">Al Gore Is Hitler!</a>

That's right.

Global warming is not true. i.e. It's fake!

George W. Bush went to Yale, he is smarter than any scientist I know, even through I don't know any scientists.

I think anybody who blithely dismisses ALL the science done on global warming as "absolute nonsense" is clearly not engaged by the issue whatsoever, has ulterior priorities, and is openingly stating his inability to make any meaningful decision on the matter.

There is some VERY interesting and suggestive data on the subject. Not all of it is cohesive, I know, but at the least it requires thoughtful consideration.

I don't want representatives who are not open to the possibility of real global warming to be publicly opining on the "nonsense" of it all, and vowing to fight something he won't even think about.

UGH!!! 'Smokey' Joe you are such an ignorant, selfish, souless, misrepresenting WHORE!

#81: <em>The heat of the Earth isn’t Global Warming, but cycles in weather patterns.</em>

What evidence are you using to support this view? Again, as I mentioned above, not one peer-reviewed scientific study has shown that global warming is merely a result of natural cycles (though I have no doubt that Rush Limbaugh and other right-wing gasbags continue to make this ridiculous claim).

<blockquote>"They have no accurate way to tell what the enviornment was like back then. The can speculate what things were supposed to be like and extrapolate to try to make it fit today’s enviornment, but it’s an educated guess at best."</blockquote>

Your flat out wrong on that. Testing polar is an incredibly accurate way to tell what the climate was like going back hundreds of thousands of years.

<blockquote>
My point is that there are as many pro-global warming studies as there are con. People believe what they want to believe. </blockquote>

Again, misinformed. Nearly all scientists back the science of global warming. Its not 50%/50% by any means. And its not opinion left for you to decide. Its solid science backed by hard data.

Joe Barton is consistantly on the wrong side of every issue. He's as predicable as the sun rising in the morning. He's just another republican slimeball on the take from any special interest group that feels threatened by progress. Subverting Autism research and funding, halting action against global warming and protecting the oil and gas industry are some of his recent achievements. Thank god his power will be greatly diminished when the Democrats take control over Congress in January.

<blockquote>I had a brief discussion about global warming with an attorney who is also a talk-show host. He said that global warming is all about shifting the economy away from America and other wealthy nations, that it is nothing but a major hoax, and that Al Gore is a total idiot. He also said that the warmest the planet has been in the last 10,000 years was about 100 years ago, which was before green house gases, and that the planet is actually cooler now than it was then.

At that point I said nothing which he took to mean agreement and then he said, “I’m glad I was able to enlighten one more person today.”

This attorney/talk-show host is not an uneducated person, so what’s up with this mentality???

Comment by Republicans are the fear and smear party — December 5, 2006 @ 1:07 pm</blockquote>

There were plenty of greenhouse gases being released 100 years ago. It was called the Industrial Revolution, and it was primarily fueled by the steam engine. What does he think created the steam?

Also, unfortunately for us, its difficult to get infallible information from the scientific community on this. There were no thermometers 10,000 years ago, so extracting greenhouse gas and temperature information from back then requires interpretation of data. As with anything, you throw a human into the mix and you've got data that can't be counted on. So, you've got different data coming from different sources.

What is undeniable, however, is the warming trend and humans' footprint. You only need drive through Gary, IN to realize what we're pouring into the atmosphere ought not be there. All conspiracy theories aside, our footprint grows larger every day. Its only a matter of time before nature bites back.

They have no accurate way to tell what the enviornment was like back then. The can speculate what things were supposed to be like and extrapolate to try to make it fit today's enviornment, but it's an educated guess at best. How do we know that air trapped in ice over such an extended period of time does not absorb co2 or does not change in some other way? We don't!

My point is that there are as many pro-global warming studies as there are con. People believe what they want to believe.

Glad to mostly everyone is brain washed by the left. The heat of the Earth isn't Global Warming, but cycles in weather patterns. Also what happened to the Hurricane season this year? Pretty sure you all think Global Warming is part of that.

Look on Google Video and search Penn and Teller and most of your environment problems like recycling will be solve.

JD - There have been many ice ages. And scientists are able to go back hundreds of thousands of years using climate data from air which is trapped in polar ice. We can tell what co2 levels have been thoughout the earths history and these levels have correlated with temperature. Currently, co2 levels are at record highs and are expected to increase exponetionaly over the next 50 years. There's nothing cyclical about whats happening right now.
