Waiting for Gates to do exactly as pickle-dick wants.

  2. Joefriday says:

Gates testified we were not winnig in Iraq but, We would be there for A VERY LONG TIME-this is not good. How did he get a clean sweep?

  3. WaltTheMan says:

    #2 – Joefriday,
Anything to get rid of Rummey.

  4. katy says:

good points just now from rachel maddow…
    prison, prisoner, rendition, detainee…
none of those words were brought up today… should be among the questions asked of this guy… what are HIS plans for the (shhhh) secret prisons that he is inheriting…

We should be careful what we wish for…

  6. Karim says:

Welll, that was fast. I hope the Senate knows what they are getting themselves into.

  7. WaltTheMan says:

    #5 – Zooey,
Barney would have been a better choice, but families receiving condolences from the Defense Department might not appreciate a paw-print. And, then, there is the patronage issue.

  8. Tuber says:

A rose, by any other name, would still have thorns. Just as a bush appointee is guaranteed to be a prick.

  9. Rebel In CA says:

Shrub of course disagreed with his nominee. In press conference today, Tony Snow-Job said the President believes we are winning in Iraq. (Check any of the news websites; Drudge has it too.)

  10. loretta says:

let Rumsfeld go home!!! (at least until it’s time to testify…)

  11. Rebel In CA says:

    Tuber:

Slight revision to you comment at No. 8

A rose by any other name still has thorns. A Shrub by the name of Bush is still where my dog would like to take a leak. LOL ;-)

    #6 – Karim,
Any delay would put off the Christmas/Hanukkah recess. Hanukkah starts on the 16th. They have to hit the stores soon. First things first!

  14. robert says:

can anyone tell me how many dems are on the committee?

Be careful before blaming it all on repubs.

  15. mikey says:

Well golly gee, he passed that gruelling guantlet of hard lined questioning by our country’s top leaders. Nice going Bob.

    Let’s recap:

He doesn’t think we’re winning in Iraq, but doesn’t think we’re losing either.
He thinks an attack on Iran would result in a loss of life
He thinks an attack on Iran should be done as a last resort

Wow, I’m impressed, he seems like he’s his own man with some very strong opinions.

    Your tax dollars at work.

A lot of the Dems are just republican lite. Take Hillary Clinton and John Kerry for example. You have us mistaken for Democrats. Moron.

  17. Tuber says:

    #14 robert,
I think the dems on the panel are looking at it this way: The situation in Iraq (and, Afghanistan) is such a mess and atrocity that to inherit the job of SOD would be something that they wouldn’t wish on even their most hated enemy. And that’s why they are saying “You’re the perfect man for the job, Bob!”

  18. commander other says:

    re #14.

not very many non-democrapublicans on this committee….

  19. Jackie says:

Gates is telling everybody what they want to hear just to get the job. Once in the job he’ll follow the orders of Bush/Cheney profiteers. Look when the King of Saudi summoned Cheney it was to make sure the stealing would continue. Gates couldn’t give a rats butt about our soldiers dying for the White House greed for oil. Rummy’s memo most likely was written with the help of Gates. The question is can you trust a person Bush has backdoor meeting with. Look at the insane Bolton as a point. Connie Rice is just a messager carrier for Dick Cheney. The powers behind this group of idiots are names Americans don’t know. Remember Nixon resigned so the names of the profiteers would not become public.

No one did-And most of us aren’t Dems-Google it yourself. Most likely 9 to 12. WTF is it with you idgits? BTW-how come all that praying for world peace(whirled peas) hasn’t worked in the last (6,000 years if your a retard- or much longer since praying came into vogue)?

  21. jurassicpork says:

Anyway, by now, I’m sure you all know about the rubber stamp semi-confirmation of Robert Gates. Here are my thoughts on the subject and I’m deeply, deeply ashamed of our Democratic “leadership.”

The AP people said 24-0. How many people are actually on the committee?

Tony Snow: Bush Disagrees With Gates, Says We Are ‘Winning’

Snow said that, as far as he knows, the president has not backed away from his recent statement that the U.S. is actually “winning” in Iraq.

You morons has got to understand how these things works! Bobby Gates told the TRUTH this morning. And, as we know, that dog just don’t HUNT. So durin’ the lunch break he got invited down to the Cheney place, where he was met by six burly CIA agents with a blindfold and a bucket of water. After a rousin’ 30 minutes of waterboardin’, Gates was RARIN’ to get back in front of that committee and say that when he said what he said about “not winning”, what he MEANT to say was “not LOSING.” And nobody noticed the soggy lapels.

It’s how they does it in DC, dimwits! Get a clue!

    “It may be that………
his best answer is no answer, maybe he is so clueless as to what Dubious is (choke) thinking ’cause he’s up to his hairline with the legacy project…………….

I agree. To understand just exactly how BushCo thinks/oprates,you have to “become” one of them.

Not in the physical sense and all that.

But to catch a serial killer, what other way is there?

Criminal profilers do it all the time.

To kill the beast, you have to become the beast(in your reasoning/thinking) to be one step ahead of the beast.

Then the snare can be cinched.

  26. Exley says:

Congratulations to Mr. Gates….I have long been admire of his. I advocated his appointment as DCI when Bush was first elected back in 2000. For some reason, Dubya chose to retain Clinton’s DCI George Tenet. And we all see how THAT decision worked out. But better late than never…Mr. Gates is a dedicated public servant and will make a terrific Secretary of Defense.

Exley,I believe Bush kept Tenet around for “someone” to blame should things go awry for him.

They went awry in a devious way,and Bush didn`t need the “scapegoat” Tenet around any longer after he pointed the finger and proudly proclaimed “Faulty Intelligence!Faulty Intelligence!”.

That “use them up,spit them out” mentality that pervades the administration fore and aft.

What exactly is your point?I fail to see one.But then again, since you are Exley, this is usually the case.

Just stick with the basics too okay?

ie should read:”I have been an admirer of his for a long time”.

Don`t confuse yourself trying to throw in philosphy/poetry into your thoughts.

    What comes out only confuses.

  29. Exley says:

Oops, Delaby….Just some sloppy typing. It should have read: “I have long been an admirer of his.”

How LONG have you been keeping up with him? How did he do in Grad school? Did he turn in real good term papers? How about his friends and neigbors-do they all like him-what does he do on week ends? What is his favorite charity? Good in sports? What about his offspring? do you admire them? the apple does not fall from the tree-any of them in Iraq? working in a soup kitchen? Salvation army? Ameriacore? Wife? bet she is just the greatest-a real Nancy Regan? How is it to be a house guest of theirs? Have you gone over his tax returns?

  31. Exley says:

Interesting questions, Joefriday (I imagine you want “just the facts”). Alas, my admiration for Mr. Gates only goes back as far as the mid-1980s when he served as Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. If you want to learn more about Mr. Gates, I would recommend his memoir, ‘From the Shadows: The Ultimate Insider’s Story of Five Presidents and How They Won the Cold War.” Fascinating book.

  32. stonehinge says:

Well, the regulars here know that I have strongly criticized Gates, and the Iraq Study Group as well. However, given the real politik of the immensely powerful Zionist lobbies, and the fact that Democrats are notoriously weak to these influences (Pelosi more than most), things may not be as bad as they seem. Today, I stumbled across a brilliant whitepaper by James Petras which clarifies the various forces that will be playing out with respect to US military and diplomatic policies in the Middle East. I suggest you take a look at it as we may very well have a chance to step beyond the Fraud of Armageddon. I’d really hate to miss that.

Exley, that would be the last thing I would read to get an unbiased view of him. I am not that interested-it is just your fawning over him that makes me feel a little ill. So just how many times have you met him and for how long? If I called him would he remember you? He most likely is a real fine gentlemen however, I don’t know him from adam and most likely you don’t either. Now if you worked in the CIA for him let’s hear about it.

    I ALWAYS trust self-aggrandizing fluff.

  35. SKdeA says:

Seems like no one remembers the crack epidemic brought on by the enormous influx of cocaine into America, during the Iran-Contra era – maybe Gates is being brought on to manage the heroin boom out of Afghanistan?
    Am I a little cynical?
