Hey, this isn't about Al Gore either and he would be the first to tell that to those who can't wake up out of their 2008 stupor. He is talking about this because people are dying and because this occupation will go on even with a Democratic majority and WE need to stop it. Time to keep our eye on the prize and listen to his words as a statesman instead of always jumping to these stupid Gore/sombody 08 posters as if you think that is the only reason why he is out here. It truly demeans his character and conviction in my opinion. I'm already sick of it and I'm sick of both sides only using this "war" as a campaign issue.

My outlook may well be different, seeingas I am not an American but rather Australian. But I agree without hesitation in What Former Vice President Gore stated about Iraq. We ( that is the colaition of the willing) need to establish a viable exit trategy. If this fails to occur then the only thing it will cause is more deaths both cilvian and military and greater terrorism.

For the love of christ - please put a democrat back in the White House . 6.5 years of Bush Jnr has been a complete disaster for the entire world.

Thank christ that Australia's elections are conducted properly - we will never have a hanging chad!!

#139. Yeah, he made a mistake trying to cherry pick those Democratic parts of Florida. Had he just pursued a statewide recount, he not only would have won as a result of those Dem. leaning areas he'd have won because largely Democratic Duval County districts would have put him over the top. The 2000 election was flat out a coup de tat. Repubs. sent all those folks down to harass elections officials; it was criminal.

#71. Actually, the Constitution says impeachment can take place for "high crimes and misdemeanors." Doesn't say anything having to commit a crime or be charged for a crime. Lying about national security matters could be considered a "high crime" and misdemeanor. So could waging an illegal war against a sovereign nation. Yes, the Congress ok'd what he did, but it just authorized him to act, didn't require him to act. He acted, took us to war against international law, and under his administration torture was authorized as was illegal wiretapping. A solid case for "crimes and misdemeanors" could be made. Impeachment is more in the mix of politics and perception. That Clinton could be impeached by the House for not disclosing in a civil court that he had an affair, that was an egregious overstepping of Congressional authority. The case for impeaching Bush looks even stronger when compared to the 1998 impeachment debacle.

[...] Then the Iraq Study Group has recommended a process to get out of the war and declared it un-winnable by Bush’s standards. When asked how Bush responded to the suggestions, Bush said “Where’s my drink”. The new candidate for Secretary of Defense has even said point blank that we are not winning the war.Yet, we still have a President who is unwilling to change his stance on this war. 71% of American’s disagree with his handling of this war and yet he is so prideful he is unwilling to change his view. Al Gore said it best,” But I would urge the president not to — to try to separate out the personal issues of being blamed in history for this mistake and instead recognize it’s not about him. It’s about our country and we all have to find a way to get our troops home and to prevent a regional conflagration there. [...]

You're wrong Gore. It IS about Bush. It's about George W. and his long rival with his daddy. He has to win even if it costs thousands of lives and wounded. Even if it bankrupts our country. Even if it enrages and alienates the world. Son must beat Daddy. Son must win Mommy's undying affection. That's why we're in Iraq and why we must stay until little George has his victory.

re: Joe's Logic and the radical left...

There is nothing radical about wanting a legitimate government that doesn't abuse its power. Two years ago, my conservative friends here in the US called me a radical leftist for imagining a 2006 election that tossed out the GOP majority and an electorate that would become vocal in its opposition to the war in Iraq and in support of the impeachment of George Bush. Two of those predictions have already come true and if the impeachment issue was given a full hearing, I am sure the majority of voters, including most of my conservative friends, would be in favor of it. The overwhelming sentiment is that Bush is a bad leader, a liar and the worst president in living memory.

Sure, I remember that the Democrats who won ran as moderates. But now it is time for them to do what is right: restoring our rights as Americans, re-establishing the checks and balances of our constitutional government, and renewing our country's integrity with our international neighbors. Most Americans are proud of what our country once stood for and the positive things we have accomplished in the past. But no one can look at the last six years and say about the US that it was our finest hour. We should all be ashamed for the crimes of the Bush regime.

It seems clear to me that Gore is the best Democrat to run for President. He consistently makes such good sense and he won when he ran for President. I wish he would announce.

I've said it before and I'll never stop saying it . . . this is the kind of integrity that this country so desperately needs in the face of the worst presidential administration in our country's history. The corruption, hypocrisy, greed, hubris of the neocons has brought us to where we are and its NOT a good place. Anyone who fails to recognize how much better off we'd be if Gore had gotten his rightful and honest win in 2000 in beyond clueless. Wake up those last few of you who are hanging on tightly to your dognitive dissonance!!!! Your boy is exactly the fairlure he appeared to be from the beginning. Your children will pay for your folly but unfortunately so will the rest of ours. We NEED Gore in the White House where he should've been for the last 6 years. This is a man our founding fathers would've embraced. Dumbya is a man they would've imprisoned.

What the Iraq Study Group report totally fails to address is the fact that the US Government committed an illegal act by invading Iraq in the first place. Many members of the Bush Administration need to be indicted for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Unless this happens and justice is impartially delivered, then the US has no credibility in the Middle East (or the world, for that matter) and cannot be expected to deliver a set of viable solutions to the mess in Messopotamia (as it’s been described by Jon Stewart).

One of the first acts of the 110th Congress must be to initiate impeachment proceedings against Bush and Cheney, including the immediate appointment of special prosecutors. In the event that our own Congress does not act, the UN should use the International Criminal Court to prosecute this administration for war crimes, just as it has been doing for defendants and victims in the former Yugoslav Republic, Serbia and Montenegro.

Each month, according to what I’ve heard in the news, an average of 100,000 Iraqis leave Iraq as refugees. Each month, thousands of Iraqis die in sectarian violence that simply did not exist prior to the US invasion. Every day, an average of 2 more US soldiers die in the streets of Iraq, usually at the hands of people who they never even see. As bad and corrupt as Saddam Hussein was, he can at least be credited with holding together a nation that has now literally come apart at the seams. Yes, he did it with an iron hand, but from my travels in the Middle East, I know firsthand that most people I’ve spoken with acknowledge the need for some countries to be led by men like Saddam; that without them, those nations would disintegrate into a patchwork of fiefdoms, just as they existed before Western Imperialists came there to exploit the region’s hydrocarbon resources. If America had the energy independence of Brazil, Saddam Hussein would today still be in power and would probably be negotiating the purchase of F-18 fighters from the Bush Administration, instead of sitting in a jail cell awaiting death by hanging. Incidentally, Iraqi law forbids the execution of people over the age of 70. Saddam turns 70 on 28 April 2007, less than five months from today.

Knowledge, wisdom, wealth, poverty, love, hate… the list goes on can each be obtained for they were there from the beginning. Once attained they can be spread like fertilizer and seed. In this case hate is the seed and ignorance is the fertilizer disseminated by the left. Apparently a lot has been spread around this forum.

Right.. it was .. the tools that hijacked this government thought money would buy the government they wanted in Iraq just like it does here.. unfortunately for thier megalomaniacal master plan they discovered in Iraqi politics the dollah doesnt go as far as allah...

we found a convicted fraudster and embezzler to tell us what we wanted to hear about saddam..... granted, he was convicted by a military court, but i dont see many right wingers complaining about the validity of a military court..
