The White House ‘had no immediate comment’

on a letter urging President Bush to remove right-wing pundit Dennis Prager from the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council for comments he made about the Quran and Muslim Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN). “Earlier Wednesday, before the letter was sent, White House press secretary Tony Snow called the matter ‘an issue that the president does not need to adjudicate and, therefore, will not.‘”

Well, yeah it kind of is something that falls under the boy kings domain since he appointed the bugger … but remember … its loyalty that matters to bush the most, not skill, experience, or intelligence. so i think Prager will be in his position for the rest of bushco’s term. This is however not a bad thing but a good thing because the more extremists in positions where they can mouth off the better. Only marginalizes neocon republicans more and more and benefits the Democratic party.

so, in addition to ’spokesman’ tony has appointed himself the ‘decider’s decider’… that’s pretty special…

  3. Jay Randal says:

Bush has no shame, so he does nothing honorable!

  4. Ty Hutchinson says:

Do you really think the “Coward in Chief” would have the guts to do the right thing???? Doubtful. Very doubtful.

  5. Raven says:

    #2..
If I remember correctly, one of Tony Baloney’s conditions of hire was that he would be a player, and have a say in policy decisions…… !!

  6. Tom3 says:

New members of Congress do not swear on a Bible or anything else when they are sworn in. They all stand up, put their right hand in the air, repeat the oath, and are all sworn it at once.

The Bibles only come out afterwards, when new representatives do photo ops for the folks at home.

So, Dennis Prager is insisting that Ellison use the Bible for a photo op. A photo op. Not an official swearing in ceremony.

Dennis Prager is a racist moron and should be fired from his job at the Holocaust Museum board.

  7. ForTruth says:

Bush doesn’t see any problem with his appointment. It’s what he wanted. So the Prager will stay.

  8. Zimzone says:

I think Bush will appoint him to Bolton’s position.
The only criteria for that job is you must be able to piss off the entire planet.
Bolton did a fine job of that, perhaps Pragar can, too.
Do Neocrooks have to place a hand on the Bible to get sworn into jail?

  9. Zooey says:

TP, what happened to my comment? No f-bombs, no name-calling, perfectly innocent!

C’mon, I admit I called Rogerx2 a filthy name yesterday, but today is a new day, I’m reformed! Well, I can quit any time…

  10. Boscoe says:

  11. SKdeA says:

Oh please don’t reform, Zooey! Never change!

  12. SKdeA says:

And isn’t that the second time in two days?

So the president appoints a religious bigot to a post on a committe about religious sensitivity then he says that its not an issue that he can touch. Who else could? He is the only one that can remove this “man” and he carries the name of the president into the room with him.

  14. NewNameAcquired says:

BUSH JUST LAUGHED AFTER SAYING THE IRAQ WAR IS GOING BAD!

I’m not making this up. At the Bush/Blair news conference, Bush just LAUGHED after telling a reporter that the Iraq war was going bad. Bush said this because the reporter wanted him to admit it, and Bush did so and then added a LAUGH!

Unbelievable! Well… in the case of Bush, believable!

  15. Wayne says:

A racist piece of scum is what Bush wanted on the Holocaust Board, thats why he appointed Prager, ironic eh?

He sees no reason to remove him because Prager is doing EXACTLY what Bush wants and Bush does not disagree with Prager otherwise he would have ALREADY been removed.

You don’t have to look hard at Bush’s other political appointees to see the same pattern of hypocricy and corruption.

Unless you called him the name X2, it shouldn’t count anyway.

  18. Raven says:

I think I know where Roger-Roger came up with his screen name….
In the Star Wars movie “Phantom Menace”,
there are these dog-faced battle droids whose response to commands is:
    roger-roger
    ..how apropo…………

  19. jeb says:

I have to say, I’m a little taken aback by all this. I’ve gone to the same synagogue as Prager in the past, and I find it hard to believe that he would want to swear in on the Christian Bible. I would think that as a Jew he would prefer either a copy of the Chumash (The “Five Books of Moses”) or no book at all. This whole Qu’ran or not-Qu’ran would seem to be a pretty easy call to anyone not Christian. I realzie it’s ultimately moot, as they don’t swear in on a book at in Congress, but if Prager had to swear to something, what would he use? What would Leiberman use? It’s interesting academically if not politically.

  20. New Yorker says:

Prager is a stain on the Holocaust museum. The only thing that is going to get him removed/forced to step down is to threaten to boycott the Museum. I know that the Board does not have the authority to remove that bigot, but board members have the contacts necessary to force him to resign.

My father-in-law ( my ex’s father ) was a survivor of Pearl Harbor, was knocked into the water and knocked out. The sailor that rescued him was killed in another explosion while still trying to get others out of the water.

He then served the rest of the war on the Enterprise.

Will do. He lives only 60 miles from me and I help him keep his rider mower running. He is still pretty spry for a person in his 80s. We are good friends =)

  26. Zooey says:

    Hey Sharon,

Always glad I can give you a laugh. Not going back to college, my dear, GOING to college. Getting married before graduating high school puts a serious crimp in, well, everything. But you know that! Gonna major in college boys, and minor in Sociology. :)

That’s funny, I meant Ozzie & Sharon Osbourne. The wife’s name is Sharon, isn’t it?

No need to be a young chick to go for the Clooney or Feingold, if they run it’s their loss, right?

Thanks for the slightly warmer temps!

  27. Sharon Cox says:

So funny Zooey, I thought you were linking me up with the like’s of Ozzie from Ozzie and Harriet…..LOL…The Ozborns are not a couple I watch, he he. Yikes! Glad it wasn’t me..Good class selection’s….Blessings

  29. Jeremy Burton says:

    http://jspot.org/?p=769

That a Jew is leading this cause is a shameful blemish on our community. And its notable that those who are finding strength and purpose in his words are the forces of the Christian right. The American Family Association has leaned heavliy on Prager’s ideas in a new mobilization to push Congress to pass a law making the Bible the book used in the swearing-in ceremony of Representatives and Senators.

Lets be clear. This is about demonizing the “other,” in this case Muslim-Americans. Our nation has a history of struggle with embracing new communities and including them in the national identity, going back as far as the Irish & the Italians in the early 19th century. It wasn’t so long ago that we Jews have been the other, discrimated in the past from public life, the best schools, where we lived, is a formative component of our long and noble defense of separation of church and state and the rights or religious minorities – and not only for ourselves. This zealot of hate disgraces our heritage and our values.

It is therefore incumbent on us, as individuals and as a community, to publicly and clearly state that Dennis Prager lies outside the Jewish tradition and thought. He does not speak for us, or from our values. He is an embarrasment to our community and he is wrong on America. While a just and fair nation should always have a place for bigots like Prager, we need not give him a home base within our faith community.
