Jefferson has not been charged yet. I think that is kind of suspicious, since they supposedly caught him with the bribery money. If it was you or me, we would be cooling our heels in the can. Instead, they leaked all the evidence to the press. Very strange when you think about it.
That being said, Pelosi is correct to keep him and any others suspected of inapropriate actions, at least untill the issue is cleared. If he took the bribe, boot his ass out of congress as well.
If the FBI does not charge Jefferson, then we probably need to look into who at the FBI was trying to frame Jefferson and smear him before the mid terms. I put nothing to chance with Speedy as the AG and overseeing the FBI.
That being said, Pelosi is correct to keep him and any others suspected of inapropriate actions, off of any commitee, at least untill the issue is cleared.
Sounds like the right thing to do to me. Somehow though, this will be seen as a sign of weakness, or a mis-step, or some other such nonsense according to the rightwing punditeers.
I hope this happens and gets some media attention.
There will only be coverage if she does not take him off. If she follows through with kicking out the corruption, there will be zero coverage from the conservative press.
That is the only way that the republicans can keep saying “All politicians are corrupt.”

I wholly agree. That whole presumption of innocence until proven guilty idea is still the way to go…
However, if Pelosi is not willing to put up with Jefferson’s supposed crimes, then why is she tolerating Bush’s blatant crimes? What’s with the double standard?
Politically, since the Dems ran against corruption they cannot coddle up to any of their own who are perceived as corrupt. Whether Jefferson is guilty or not, with that 90k in his freezer, public opinion says he is (minus his constituents).
As for Bush … we’ll just have to wait and see what she does … Dems don’t want to bite off more than they can chew at once.
Pelosi, it’s great to remove the corruption! Now, if the House would just embrace FEDERAL TAX REFORM by replacing the oppressive and corrupted income tax system, America would be grateful! Give us the FairTax Bill (HR25). Help bring back over $11,000,000,000,000 (Trillion) to the U.S. economy that has been moved to offshore accounts due to the unfavorable income tax system! SUPPORT THE FAIRTAX PROPOSAL FOR ALL AMERICANS!

That must have been hilarious. I don’t get MSNBC here, what did Olbermann say about it?
In response to #17. “But allan mollahan gets to keep his committee chairmanship while also being under FBI investigation. Neither has been indicted, I wonder what the difference is? Oh yea!”
On April 7, 2006 The Wall Street Journal reported that the Justice Department had opened a federal inquiry into Mollohan’s finances and “whether they were disclosed properly.” The charges were filed by a conservative think tank; National Legal and Policy Center. The charges appear to be leveled after repeated calls by Rep. Alan Mollohan to try and start multiple investigations into GOP members that were being stalled by “Fat Bastard” Hasterd.
On April 21, Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-WV) announced he would be stepping down from his post as the Democrat Chairman of the ethics committee in response to allegations that he abused his post on the House Appropriations committee by allegedly funneling earmarked money to nonprofits that he set up.
You seem to infer that the reason why Pelosi isn’t taking action is because he is white and Jefferson is black. It appears that Rep. Alan Mollohan (D-WV) did the right thing and stepped down while the investigation is under way. It’s my understanding that no grand jury has been paneled regarding Rep. Alan Mollohan. FOX NEWS, Bloomburg, and the Washington Post have tried to keep this in the limelight as much as possible to do two things. First, to deball the Ethics committee to which he was the ranking Democrat. Second, to cast allegations that Democrats where as corrupt as the PedoCons under indictment.
I’ll use a phrase the FOX NEWS loves to use “Some people would say” that finding $95,000 in the frig after an FBI investigation reveals that he illegally took $100,000 is a little different then allogations made by an opposing entity to cast Rep. Alan Mollohan as corrupt as the Republicans controlling the Ethic’s comittee at that time.

At work I would keep things generic — you know, pretty lights, snowmen, paper snowflakes, flamingoes in parkas, etc. If it causes a problems, clear that shit out, and the whiners will probably not surface next year.
Why are people such idiots at this time of year? (That’s in general, Robert. I’m not calling you an idiot, and I’m an idiot all the time)

Comment by robert — December 11, 2006 @ 9:10 pm
This isn’t that simple because there is a difference between the consequences of that lie. I don’t believe in absolutes – that one lie equals any other lie.
I don’t believe he lied under oath about anything consequential, therefore the consequences of impeachment were not just.
Had he lied about something consequential (i.e. not about his personal life), then no, it wasn’t acceptable.
This is where we disagree. You want to lump a lie about his sex life into the same category as lying about WMDs to get us to go to war. I think lumping them together is asinine and an utter waste of tax payer’s resources and time.
By the way, I never voted for Clinton and am not a fan.
Unbelievable, you are ducking and dodging like Rocky Balboa.
It was not about his sexlife per se, It was about his pattern of sexual harassment while serving as a public official, which is against the law.
It is a simple question. Was it appropriate behavior for President Clinton to lie under oath?
If President Bush is put under oath, and he lies about anything, I would be the first to say it is not appropriate.
It was about his pattern of sexual harassment while serving as a public official, which is against the law.
It is a simple question. Was it appropriate behavior for President Clinton to lie under oath?
C’mon Bob, we all know it was not a “pattern of sexual harrassment,” as Paula Jones and the others tried to prove (but were unable to). It was about getting Clinton any way they could, and it started as soon as he took office. Remember the “Arkansas Project?”
The black community is now a liability to the Dems, as seen with William Jefferson (Clinton, coincidence, I think not), Cynthia McKinney and now Alcee Hastings. Dems will take their votes, but not share power (familiarity breeds contempt?), nor will Dems give the black community school vouchers to end the cycle of poverty.
The black community is now at its weakest point since prior to the civil rights legislation in the 1965. Women are quickly following, with only hispanics gaining incredible power. This is possible, because Dems have a lock on the black vote, as well as a significant percent of the female vote.
Pelosi will reign over another extremely corrupt congress. She should be pushing for his indictment if she was to stand by her word but she will not because she is a liar. That was evident when she backed Murtha, as well as that impeached Judge. How about that Harry Reid also he is a crook over there on the other side. Nope not going to change and the reason is because corruption is policed only by the media and the media only polices’ the right-wingers. It gives the left a decided edge.
Good for her.
December 11th, 2006 at 4:30 pmI hope this happens and gets some media attention. It will be interesting to hear what the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity will say about it. Here would be someone standing by their word and blocking a member of their own party to the higly touted commitee.

KO read a couple of the comments, but most are not suitable for TV. James R has a new blog (#96 on the DeLay thread, I think) and it has saved all the comments, even though DeLay took them down.
December 11th, 2006 at 9:11 pmFirst, #2: It doesn’t MATTER what reality is, people like Hannity distort it every time. So what they “say” will be whatever smears the Pelosi.
Second, #28, aka “angie”: Let me. Tell you how. To compose a complete. Paragraph, with. Out. Making it chop. Py and ridiculously ig. You are norant.
I liked Atlanta, but my impression is that “angie” lives in one of the less..metropolitan areas. GOOD JOB ON THE “WRITING SKILLS” there, Ang!
Nice call on the botox, when you have people like Foley diddling male teenagers. Does “twat” ring a bell?
December 11th, 2006 at 9:13 pmDelay has a blog? LOL.
Comment by unbelievable

And you wonder why I am here?
Hypocrit.
fisth……..fittttt
Zooey,I own numerous womens clothing stores.
I would get you a gift, but my boutiques only go up to size 8.
Perhaps a womens “plus size” store would be more to your liking.
We just “won`t sell” to “your kind”
And I am not sorry to say it to you,but having a woman of your
……..well……………..stature appear here would be bad for my
clothing lines.
Perhaps a nice sweatpants retalier or wal-mart would be more of
your caliber.
We have no room in our clothing chains for…….well……”frumpy”
Good luck to you finding something to wear.
But we cannot however help you at this time.
December 11th, 2006 at 9:13 pmZoo, thanks fo rthe opinion, I know it is not legal advice. Personally, I do not decorate my workspace for any holiday. I work in a Group HQ and think it looks unprofessional.
I also did not think you were calling me an idiot (although I act like one sometimes).
We actually have a “Holiday/Christmas” party for the command Friday and they are lableing it as a Command Function and requiring people that do not recognize the holiday to attend. Personally, I think the “Command” is wrong for that and I have even talked to the SJA (legal guys) about it.
December 11th, 2006 at 9:15 pmRobert,
I wonder why they don’t just call it a Shop Party, and be done with it? That’s soooo military — throw a party and require attendance. Heh.
December 11th, 2006 at 9:22 pmI do live in the real world, every single day.
No you don’t.
I do not pretend that political group has a Moral Superiority over another. I give credit where credit is due, based on the individual.
Not the robert who has been posting here lately…
I will ask a direct question. Was it OK for Clinton to lie under oath?
December 11th, 2006 at 9:23 pmand it has saved all the comments, even though DeLay took them down.

Sounds like I missed it… will go check it out. Thanks for the update. We had a openhouse thing at school tonight so I’m late to join the party…
Probably should be going…
Have a good evening!
December 11th, 2006 at 9:27 pmFunny,
I don`t know a thing about guns, but my stockbroker said they are
making me rich to the tune of $77,000,000.
Oh well, back to Desperate Housewives and another hot toddy.
Bwahahahaha.
My life is secure and charmed.
How`s yours?
Another note, have you noticed how the $77,000,000,the first two
digits 77 happen to be the Lord`s day?
It must be a sign from the Almighty.
He wants me to make this amount of money on armaments.
And who am I to disagree.
If you would have invested your money wisely, you could be just
like me.
But then again no, perish the thought.
My circles wouldn`t allow it,nor would I.
Angie—-”The no mac-cheese queen”
December 11th, 2006 at 9:36 pmUnbelievable, you are ducking and dodging like Rocky Balboa.
December 11th, 2006 at 9:54 pmBTW,This is twice that Pelosi has made me eat crow. (no offense to the vegans) Go on her for this
December 11th, 2006 at 10:00 pmJefferson needs to go, he’s corrupt.
December 11th, 2006 at 10:40 pmAngie what do you think about Pelosi stripping William Jefferson’s power? Cool huh?
December 11th, 2006 at 10:45 pmIt was about his pattern of sexual harassment while serving as a public official, which is against the law.

Awesome
December 11th, 2006 at 11:57 pmSweet. Sweet Constitutional Oversight.
Delicious, and good. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm….. Unusual.
December 12th, 2006 at 12:39 amThe black community is now a liability to the Dems, as seen with William Jefferson (Clinton, coincidence, I think not), Cynthia McKinney and now Alcee Hastings.
December 12th, 2006 at 8:50 amGood move Nancy. Hopefully he’ll get indicted before his new term starts.
December 12th, 2006 at 9:37 amPelosi will reign over another extremely corrupt congress.
