My letter to Mr. Rutz (and yes, I actually e-mailed him this)
Mr. Rutz,
I must say, thank you for your article entitled “Soy is making kids ‘gay’”. Rarely have I seen such a fine parody of the type of psuedo-scientific, ill informed commentary one normally sees on such sites. I especially liked the equation of homosexuality to femininity, since such a claim is easily and thoroughly rebuked by even a cursory glance at research into that subject, and how you flawlessly skewer the type of people that use such easily debunked arguments in their commentaries.
Also, the way you mock how some writers will totally disregard established scientific fact by citing a personal opinion…beautiful. This part especially got me:

“Homosexuals often argue that their homosexuality is inborn because “I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t homosexual.” No, homosexuality is always deviant. But now many of them can truthfully say that they can’t remember a time when excess estrogen wasn’t influencing them.”

Wonderful! Such a masterful indictment of writers that actually use such reasoning in actual debate of a subject. I must say, you perfectly capture the way some people actually try to argue despite not knowing the first thing about what they’re arguing.
Thank you for a fantastic example of parody writing at it’s finest. Your article gave me a good laugh, something I really needed today.

I think Rutz’s claims are over-the-top, but soy is closely linked with developmental problems in newborns and young children. No one is claiming (well, maybe Rutz was) that eating soy as an adult will shrink your member and make you an overnight flamer.

Also, the arguments about Asia are weak. Asians used soybeans as a fertilizer for centuries before they decided to eat them, and even today they eat them more sparingly than you’d think. Not to mention it’s largely an American practice that subsitutes soy-based formulas for the natural (and most healthy) milk that is naturally available from the mother.

I had no idea about the estrogen content of soy, so I did some looking around. You can peruse what I’ve found over on my blog.

I figured people would be on Rutz’s bandwagon (minus the whole “Devil food” aspect). After all, people are always looking for an escape from responsibility.

Itâ€™s nonsence! Asian have been eating Tofu and Soy food for thousands of years. But the fact is that the number of gays in western country where people like eating cheese is hundreds times than that in east.
