Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota suffered a possible stroke Wednesday and was taken to a hospital, his office said.

If he should be unable to continue to serve, it could halt the scheduled Democratic takeover of the Senate. Democrats won a 51-49 majority in the November election. South Dakota’s governor, who would appoint any temporary replacement, is a Republican.

Oh Karl Rove you are a evil genius.

Here is our October surprise in December.

    Thanks. You always come through.

  3. ForTruth says:

So Karl Rove caused this guy’s stroke?

Don’t get ahead of yourself Flaco. You wouldn’t wan’t anyone saving your post and flying it in your face at a later date would you?

    Paul Wellstone all over again?

  5. Larry from C says:

The 17th amendment of the U.S. Constitution says state legislatures can give their governors the power to appoint someone else to take over, but only in the case of “vacancies.”

What’s a vacancy? Clearly death or resignation, but history suggests not much else. Serious illness doesn’t count.

The Senate Historian’s office cites several examples of a senator being incapacitated for years and remaining in office.

Most recently, Sen. Karl Mundt (ironically, also from South Dakota) suffered a stroke in 1969 and was incapacitated, but he refused to step down. He remained in office until Jan. 1973 when his term expired. Mundt was pressured repeatedly to step down during his illness, but he demanded that the governor promise to appoint his wife. The governor refused, and Mundt remained in office.

We’ll get him to the senate if we have to remake Weekend at Bernie’s. We’re not handing over the Senate to Dick Cheney come hell or highwater.

Glad to see you enjoy someone else’s illness.
Your sympathy runs deep, Flaccido, and exposes your soul well!

I am glad to the TP back. I was really concerned.
Regarding Senator Tim Johnson I wish him the best. But I smell foul play. As I just posted on huffington (there are plenty repoop maggets posting excitement about the Senator’s illness) I believe whoever gives a sh!Æ’ about Americans dying in Iraq will sacrifice American lives here to remain on the trigger. Those guys are rightously asking for riots with the known consequences.

But for Your pleasure here a link to some really great music:

(By the way, that is a joke… )

I’m a Democrat and was gleeful to see my party win control of Congress last month. However, considering the current circumstances, I’m not really concerned about control at this point in time. It’s just way too much pressure to place on Senator Johnson personally. Take care of yourself Johnson, and don’t worry about who controls the Senate. There are more important things, and the well-being of another human being is one of them.

    Phew! Long black out…

  13. Larry from C says:

I know I’m jumping the gun here but I’d like for some intrepid investigator to retrace every step Senator Johnson took the past day. Every person he talked to. I’d like to know every place he went, every food ate and every drug he took. I’d like a full medical, blood and toxicology report. You cannot help but be suspicious.

  14. Larry from C says:

10 Unbelievable…We’re all just a small piece of silicon in a Choicepoint server. I’m sure they can track us down rather easily. So you might as well hold nothing back.

My God,these vultures are murdering to keep POWER.

BushCo`s CIA has all sorts of devious ways to induce a “stroke”

I am guessing this is no accident with the South Dakota senator.

    Yea,Paul Wellstone all over again.

  17. Larry from C says:

The neo-cons are obviously becoming very afraid of Obama-Mania.

Their friends at CNN have launched a pre-emptive attack on the Illinois Senator. CNN did a segment today putting Obama in a split-screen with Bin-Ladin and Saddam Hussein. They played it off as a friendly jab at his unusual name.

But you can’t help but flashback to the vicious commercial used to unseat war hero and triple amputee Max Cleland. In the commercial Cleland is shown morphing into Saddam Hussein.

If CNN wanted to live up to their slogan of the “most trusted name in news” they’d put Bush in a split screen with Bin-Ladin. They could then finally report about the complex 30 year relationship between the two families.

But this is the network of Glenn Beck, so don’t get your hopes up.

  18. katy says:

do you suppose this latest “technical problem” was caused by the extra traffic (if any) from the vote yesterday?
seems like whenever TP is linked to from other places there is always a problem… not that i know a thing about such… just wondering…

  19. Larry from C says:

17, Forgot to include the link. Here’s the link to the Obama/Hussein/Bin Ladin split-screen story:

larry from c – did you hear about jeff greenfield linking obama with amadinthehead because of the way he dresses??? carazy!
obama wore a shirt and jacket with no tie and he links that look with amad… who usually wears a different kind of jacket…
these people need to be stomped!

Cause u is a nasty girl!

  22. Larry from C says:

You can almost trace the thought process of the neo-cons.

They’re very scared that Obama fever is running unchecked. So Karl gets on the phone to CNN and tells Greenfield to link Obama to Amadinajad…but here’s the key Karl says…link him in a humorous way. Because if the link is too vicious people will cry foul and it could backfire. So Karl tells Greenfield to mention that he dresses like Amadinajad.

Later in the day CNN runs Karl’s second idea. This time CNN is to link Obama to Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Ladin by his unusual name. Once again, Karl instructs, make it a humorous piece. The good soldiers at CNN obediently follow orders.

Whether or not my above scenario is accurate its obvious that two “soft” attack pieces in one day is evidence of intent. I’m sure Karl will weigh response and plan his next attack accordingly.

  25. katy says:

i can’t remember when the greenfield piece ran… i heard about it on sam seder/AAR today or yesterday… no matter… of course it’s the work of the right wing trash machine…

of course, it was a couple weeks ago when this latest started with some hack talking about “Barack Hussein Obama” – his full name…

    theswan – it’s gonna be a loooooong wait for jan.4, i know…

Kudos to TP on your practice of letting us know when it has been a problem at your end. It helps to reassure me/us that we are not going crazy or that it is time to burn our computers.

Sincerely Thank you! Other sites are not this thoughtful.
