Ney’s lawyers are encouraging the former lawmaker’s friends to write letters to Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle, letting her know “your feelings about Bob’s character, his work for his constituents in Ohio, his work on national issues, his integrity, his dedication to public service.” Ney has pleaded guilty to “performing official acts for lobbyists in exchange for campaign contributions, expensive meals, luxury travel and skybox sports tickets” and his sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 19.
Clearly he is unaware of Tom Delay’s foray into soliciting thoughts about him…
Should be another well-deserved spanking…
December 13th, 2006 at 7:06 pmJudge Ellen looks a bit like Judge Judy…
December 13th, 2006 at 7:07 pmJust suck it up and take it like a man, Ney….
Heh.
December 13th, 2006 at 7:13 pmWhere is the address? I will write a letter on behalf of Mr. Ney.
December 13th, 2006 at 7:14 pmAddress is here!

December 13th, 2006 at 7:18 pmThe Honorable Ellen Segal Huvelle,
Dear Judge Huevelle,
I am writing on behalf of Mr. Bob Ney, the ex-representative from Ohio who is before you for a small indiscretion or two. Mr. Ney is the epitome of the character and creditability to be accredited to all his fellow Republican Politicians. He is representative of the fine work the 109th Congress has performed and one of the prime examples of why the 110th doesn’t have Bob Ney and over 30 of his compatriots. I would hope you will show great compassion and constraint and only sentence Mr. Ney to one life term.
December 13th, 2006 at 7:25 pmHis integrity???
December 13th, 2006 at 7:29 pmCan you just imagine the responses?…. :)
Everyone here needs to copy and paste this address to every news site they go to and ask those posters to write to the judge.
December 13th, 2006 at 7:29 pmIn response to this and the McCain post below, we need to show that we are a force to be reckoned with, and will not be brainwashed or spoon-fed as the (otherwise unexplicable) 30% are.
Clyde, *ahem*, Don,
(that’s going to take a while to get used to.)
Love the letter!
December 13th, 2006 at 7:31 pmNey’s nothing but a typical, run-of-the-mill crook! He doesn’t have a shred of integrity and is both a liar and a thief. He’s a rule breaker extraordinaire and I hope that his punishment is long term and that he never has an opportunity to take advantage of the people who put him in office ever again. He’s the quintessential “FRAUD”.
December 13th, 2006 at 7:52 pmTrue.
I will resurrect Clyde just for you! Had Clyde written the letter it would not have been near so nice. You are absolutely right about making ourselves visible. In the past the only feed back the fools got was from their rigged polls. The follow-up election in Texas is a prime example. The Republican was ahead with their crooked count and recount. The follow-up election, without the Republican manipulation, showed the true picture. The same will happen in Texas if there is a new election. The Democrat will win by at least the 18,000 votes that got “lost.” The fool lawyer (a redundancy I am sure) will soon learn the power of the bloggers as did Delay (Two hours and he quits!) and McPain is about to find out.
December 13th, 2006 at 7:59 pmDear Bob,
I hope you get wrapped in that grey coating they use in some microwavable food packaging, to accelorate the cooking. And then of course, put you in front of a microwave dish.
Thats cruel, not really.
December 13th, 2006 at 8:04 pmjust for me Clyde?…
*blush*
December 13th, 2006 at 8:04 pmI don’t want to step on grandma’s toes, but that was very sweet!
I saw the PBS show about Ney’s involvement in the Jack, Ralph and Grover criminal acts. Nothing I say would help this criminal to get a lighter sentence. Sometimes it better to say nothing at all. If I had to write a letter Ney would most likely get a longer sentence.
December 13th, 2006 at 8:04 pmIf the letters are supposed to touch on Ney’s character, integrity, and dedication to public service, those letters will surely be very short.
If I were the DA, I would start looking into the financials of the people who write ringing endorsements of Ney’s integrity.

Oy. It’s a mitzvah!
December 13th, 2006 at 8:23 pmMy letter to the judge follows.
The Honorable Ellen Segal Huvelle
United States District Court
333 Constitution Avenue, N W
Washington, DC 20001
Dear Judge Huvelle
As reported from several sources this evening, attorney’s for convicted scam artist and former Congressman Bob Ney are encouraging people to write to you to attest to Ney’s character. Here’s an example of what is being reported.
Write a letter on behalf of Bob Ney.
“Ney’s lawyers are encouraging the former lawmaker’s friends to write letters to Judge Ellen Segal Huvelle, letting her know “your feelings about Bob’s character, his work for his constituents in Ohio, his work on national issues, his integrity, his dedication to public service.†Ney has pleaded guilty to performing official acts for lobbyists in exchange for campaign contributions, expensive meals, luxury travel and skybox sports tickets and his sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 19″
As a typical American citizen who is absolutely completely and totally fed up with all of the malfeasance and illegality that has been exposed from the Republicans in the 109th Congress, I’m writing to beg you to show absolutely zero mercy for Bob Ney or any of his ilk who may come before you. People who are elected to Congress to represent us are understandably held to a higher standard. They are supposed to be examples for others to live by.
What Bob Ney did was obviously illegal and blatantly immoral. From his position as a member of Congress who certainly knew better, he should be sentenced to the fullest extent of the law possible. I’m sure if I came before you for having committed the same crimes you’d look at me as a typical person and throw the book at me. Ney and other Congressmen should be shown the same or more punishment as a regular person like me would get.
I beg you to give him at least 27 months and if possible put an extra 0 on his sentence behind the 7. That would send a strong message to others in positions of authority that they, like us, are not above the law and should suffer the same consequences that we the people suffer.
Thanks for considering my request and please have a safe and happy holiday season.
December 13th, 2006 at 8:50 pmHas any request for letters been made publicly, to be sent to any federal judge or to the Attorney General, Robert Gonzales, letting them know “your feeling about Jose Padilla’s illegal abduction by the United States? The stripping away of his civil rights and his right to habeas corpus as an American citizen? His illegal detention? Torture? Padilla is still being held illegally by the Bush administration. All accusations (not legitimate charges) against him from an attempt to detonate a radioactive stink bomb to blowing up apartment buildings have fallen by the wayside. The answer is NO, of course. Thus, no letters should been sent in to question Bob Ney’s “legal detention.†SAUCE FOR THE GOOSE.
December 13th, 2006 at 8:59 pmYour honor,
I can attest that Bob Ney loves money, power, and influence more than life itself. Please keep this S>O>B within arms reach.
December 13th, 2006 at 11:09 pmThe irony of this whole fiasco is that Ney and company actually think they can influence the judge. If I were the presiding judge I would be insulted and lock up every letter writer and have the lawyer disbarred and sent away for good. The mind set that causes them to believe they can influence the judge is exactly the mind set that got Ney in trouble in the first place. “Everybody has a price which is fine as long as I get mine.”
December 13th, 2006 at 11:09 pmI have a friend, who has no clue what war is, what majority is, what reality is.
He is…fighting for…..
My famiy wants him to come home…….
December 13th, 2006 at 11:54 pmNey deserves a long term in the slammer simply for his foistihg HAVA (help americans vote act) on the American people.
December 14th, 2006 at 1:21 amWhy waste a jail cell? Stand him on his head, stick a funnel up his ass and pour in some molten lead.
December 14th, 2006 at 3:21 amJudge Ellen Segal Huvelle,
Please take mercy on Bob Ney. After all, he is just like every other politician, he jsut got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
December 14th, 2006 at 8:45 amThe Honorable Ellen Segal Huvelle,
Dear Judge Huevelle,
I am writing on behalf of Mr. Bob Ney, the ex-representative from Ohio. I appreciate the fact that Your Honor is extremely busy and I will make this short and sweet.
Hang the bastard Ney
Yours with Respect
December 14th, 2006 at 12:42 pmDear Judge,
December 14th, 2006 at 6:30 pmHang the M-F.
But please spare the rug. We’ve reserved a place for it in our museum of horrors.
Sincerely,
Ripley
I am thankful to see that Judge Ellen Segal was so thorough and expiditious in deciding Ney’s fate. As a native Ohioan I have to wonder how much more government corruption can come from this state and with just decisions such as Judge Ellen’s…maybe the corruption will begin to ebb. She is refreshing ly honest and essential in today’s world of politics…Thank you sincerely Judge Segal!

I know Bob Ney and he is indeed a man of great integrity and honesty. He was framed by a bunch of zealots and sentenced by a leftist Clinton appointee, so what else is new?
soon, they will get around to Congressman Jefferson and Sen. Reid and that dribbling idiot, John Murtha, and have some REAL crooks for the system. Ney’s transgressions were minor in comparison.
