Suing an author over an immature, thinly veiled insult accomplishes nothing. Nor can the description be considered child pornography, as some avenue of discussion of what is a very serious topic must be allowed in an open, democratic society. Also, just because Crichton has thought about a topic in no way indicates that he has similar urges himself. Sexual deviants are found in all sectors of society, as sad as it is. Republicanism does not equal child molestation. For the record, I am as liberal a democrat as you can find. But I believe in democracy, not in intimidating the press's freedoms through frivolous lawsuits. Crichton's characterizations have always been 2-dimensional, but his ideas are usually provocative. As I am not a scientist, and I doubt that most of the people on this board are, I would be hard pressed to make a substantive argument regarding global warming, one way or the other. I know that there are some problems with the theory, but problems plague theories in all branches of science, and this alone does not discredit a theory. Even evolution, the best proven theory, still has problems that need to be addressed. But global warming issues aside, pollution is clearly a huge problem and our society needs to drastically reduce its output of toxins into the environment. In any case, Michael Crichton is an author who put a lot of thought into his argument and the arguments against his ideas should be backed-up by evidence, not playground insults. I would agree that this argument should be continued in the scientific literature, not in Senate appearences or visits with the president.

Errr...This a big distinction between criticism, mindless bashing, and mindless bashing in which you call your critic a pedophile. Like most on the right, your intellect is too feeble to grasp even this least subtle of distinctions.

I love it. Anyone with a blog or newspaper is allowed to use that medium to bash Mr. Crichton - but the moment he uses his own medium to do some bashing back he is vilified. Hypocrisy at its apex.

[...] By MediaChannel. Science fiction novelist Michael Crichton, author of Jurassic Park, Andromeda, and last year’s global warming skeptic screed State of Fear, has responded to The New Republic senior editor Michael Crowley in prose in his latest book. The New York Times coverage is somewhat tame compared to ThinkProgress, who go right to the excerpt: Last March, New Republic senior editor Michael Crowley wrote a cover story called “Jurassic President: Michael Crichton’s Scariest Creation.” It highlighted Crichton’s junk science and the danger posed by President Bush adopting it.
I’ve been working on a song about an author named Michael Kryton who has sex orgies at the White House with male prostitutes.

Comment by Mike D —

I very much look forward to hearing it, Mike D.
By the way, the only Crichton book I have read was "Rising Sun." Since I have lived in Japan and am familiar with the way Japanese people talk, I thought it was terrible in a cartoonish way.

Well, considering Crichton wrote the scientifically accurate "Jurassic Park" we should probably listen to him. I am not saying he is a tool, or anything.

Over the years, I've read quite a few of Crichton's books. I've enjoyed reading them until I read "State of Fear". The book irratated me. I had a difficult job sticking with it. Found myself disagreeing with the concepts presented in the book, and left me with a nagging unrest from reading it. Actual told a few friends, not to bother to read it.
This article just justified my feelings about the book, that it sucked and I'll save my money by not buying anymore books by Crichton.

Over the years, I’ve read quite a few of Crichton’s books. I’ve enjoyed reading them until I read “State of Fear”. The book irratated me. I had a difficult job sticking with it. Found myself disagreeing with the concepts presented in the book, and left me with a nagging unrest from reading it. Actual told a few friends, not to bother to read it.
This article just justified my feelings about the book, that it sucked and I’ll save my money by not buying anymore books by Crichton.

This is why I don't read Michael Crichton. That and the fact that his books suck. And if I were Crowley, I'd be suing for defamation of character.

Bad move, Crichton. Crowley buys his 55-gallon drums of ink in much greater quantities than you and I'm sure he gets a better price break on them. He publishes a lot more often than you do, too, and his genre isn't fiction. I hope he sues the living crap out of you.
