In fact, I'm not sure he would be an asset now, since his appeal is to exactly the same moderate, pro-war voters who would undoubtedly vote McCain -- Democrats who wouldn't have voted for McCain otherwise won't be converted by Lie-boy's presence on the ticket, and conservatives who may still be wary of McCain won't be reassured by a Dem/former Dem as his VP -- especially a Dem with a record of liberalism on a lot of issues. (On the plus side, between them McCain and Lieberman have over 250 years of political experience -- on those rare occasions when both were awake at the same time they'd be a formidable duo...) Also, if Leibo did this he'd undoubtedly alienate lots more Dem voters, and he'd be giving up a powerful position in the Senate to attach himself to an administration which is increasingly despised and out of touch with reality. There's also the question of whether the Lieb is, by his own reckoning, a highly ethical guy who might not be able to rationalize a cynical play like this as easily as he did staying in the Senate race as an Indie (or running at all for a 4th term, since he'd initially got the job by arguing that 18 years in the same office was too long) .
