In Tuesday’s press briefing, a reporter asked White House Press Secretary Tony Snow whether he believes the American public would support President Bush’s potential plan to send more U.S. troops to Iraq. Snow said that Bush’s “way forward” will “address a lot of the concerns that the American public have,” and called on Congress to endorse whatever it will be:
The other thing is that there is an opportunity here, also, for Democrats and Republicans to work together; whatever the discontent may be with the President, the level of confidence in Congress is even lower. And what you have is a sense of crisis of confidence in government. And this is an opportunity for…the legislative branch and executive branch to work together
Snow is wrong, according to a new Washington Post-ABC poll:
– 57 percent trust the incoming Congress “to do a better job coping with the main problems the nation faces.” Just 31 percent trust Bush.
– 56 percent trust the incoming Congress to better deal with the situation in Iraq, compared to just 32 percent for Bush.
– 50 percent trust the incoming Congress to better fight the war on terrorism, compared to just 41 percent for Bush.
Snow is right that the legislative and executive branches have an opportunity to work together. But it the public’s confidence is much more with the Congress than the President.
Perhaps the level of confidence in teh Congress we just fired… But definitely not the level of the one we just elected…
Tony snow is spinning faster than a whirling dervish…
December 14th, 2006 at 4:44 pmSnow get’s big buck’s to spew stupid stuff….Just remember when you leave this job snowflake some future employer’s may remember all you’re lies and lesson you’re job oportuneties……Thaw on demand….Blessings all

December 14th, 2006 at 4:47 pmTHAT’S IT. From now on, I am officially calling him “Baghdad-Bob Snow” instead of “Snow-Job”.
December 14th, 2006 at 4:52 pmTony Snow sez:
NO, Mr. Snow…the level of confidence was lower, but we fixed that in November, you jackass.
December 14th, 2006 at 4:54 pmThe vote is close… so go vote for TP:

December 14th, 2006 at 4:54 pmIs it me, or does Tony Snow have a lot in common with this guy.
December 14th, 2006 at 4:56 pmWhadddya expect? His job is to Snow us.
December 14th, 2006 at 4:57 pmwhat I have a hard time figuring out is why President Bush says “our plan is to succeed”.
That is NOT a plan, it is the GOAL.
It sort of reminds of the episode of South Park introducing “Tweek” and the underpants gnomes. The boys meet the gnomes and ask them why they steal Tweek’s underpants. The gnomes explain their plan as follows, “Step one: steal underpants, (step 2 is blank) and they point to the blank spot on their “flow chart” and then go directly to stage 3 “profits” then they say “get it?”. of course the boys don’t get and ask them to explain it again and the gnomes go over it agin, they then ask “but what is stage 2?”. the gnomes don’t have an answer, eventually “Kenny gets killed” and the gnomes continue on their merry little way.

December 14th, 2006 at 5:05 pmSnow makes this stuff up as events change .. I don’t think he even discusses what he is going to say with WH staff or Bush. I think he sees himself as a political pundant as well as the voice of direction that the WH should take. He clearly is not a real Press Secretary but has assumed a leadership role in WH policy.
December 14th, 2006 at 5:07 pmThis is getting to be too easy: a Republican says something, therefore he’s full of shit.
You know, lying might be more effective if you mixed in some truth now and again, just to keep people off balance.
December 14th, 2006 at 5:07 pm.
These are the last days of the ‘Bush Administration’.
December 14th, 2006 at 5:09 pmWe need to make sure something like that will never
happen again. There need to be amendment to the
existential human rights in the Constitution.
Reverse the damage and “No more changes.”
No more absolute power.
OOH – Bush, Cheney and Snow as underpants gnomes, I love it! I can just hear them singing the underpants gnome song.
December 14th, 2006 at 5:10 pmI think Tony may have been referring to a recent Gallup poll cited by USAToday
Of course that 14% number could depend a lot on how the question was asked. For example, I would have to say that I’m not confident that the Democratic leaders will “chart the proper course”, since they aren’t the ones in charge of the Iraq fiasco.

Hey Tony, ya know what thing with the great big teeth is? The one that’s gnawing on your ass right now?
Allow me to introduce you. Tony Snow — the Truth. Truth — Tony Snow.
Just in case you should ever run into each other again.

Sorry for the double post.
December 14th, 2006 at 5:42 pmwhatever the discontent may be with the President, the level of confidence in Congress is even lower.
Two thoughts on this comment.
First, it is my impression Snow was talking about the current Republican-controlled Congress. In that respect, his statement is accurate: Congress’ approval rate hovers in the twenties, if memory serves.
Second, he meant that as a praise for Pres Bush’s job approval rate -pathetic, considering Bush’s approval rate is about 30%, and all-time low.
All in all, it was yet another instance of this administration’s minions at lowering the bar for Pres Bush to make him look good. Or so they think.
December 14th, 2006 at 5:44 pmTHAT’S IT. From now on, I am officially calling him “Baghdad-Bob Snow†instead of “Snow-Jobâ€.
Comment by Rebel In CA — December 14, 2006 @ 4:52 pm
Rebel, after seeing Keith Olbermann’s bit last night about how many times Tony says “I don’t know”, I think his new name should be “Don’tKnowSnow”.
December 14th, 2006 at 5:49 pmThere is more to it Gregor, I think it is also part of an effort to de-legitimize a democratically lead congress. Why bother trying to work in a bi-partisan manner, if there is no confidence in the government? I won’t be suprised to hear the same sentiment echoed by the right wing soon.
December 14th, 2006 at 6:06 pmYou know the tune:

December 14th, 2006 at 6:16 pmKrazny,
Good point.
Maybe I am wrong, then, and Snow was actually talking about the incoming Congress… hhhmmm….
December 14th, 2006 at 6:23 pmJust the latest in asinine, vacuous things that “Foxy the Snoman” has said about Bush.
December 14th, 2006 at 6:26 pmRemember, he’s paid for his loyality. He wasn’t hired to represent or speak for the American people. The White House lives in a place that isn’t a ‘river in Egypt’, called DENIAL!

December 14th, 2006 at 6:30 pmmore of the same.
Ann Coulter claimed that democrats were elected to congress for their pro-war appearance. WTF? i think it’s pretty clear the voters didn’t trust anyone pro-war.

December 14th, 2006 at 9:24 pmActually, technically speaking, it could be argued that Snowjob wasn’t lying when he said that the American people have less confidence in Congress than they do in the President — or at least not by commission. Note that his reference to Congress wasn’t specific — he conveniently neglected to specify whether he meant the departing Congress, the incoming Congress, or the institution of Congress in general as an enduring institution. If memory serves, a poll taken prior to the election did indicate that the American people had less confidence in the 109th Congress than they did in the President — which is probably why they voted to put the Democrats in charge! There’s no doubt in my mind that Snowjob carefully kept his statement ambiguous so that it would in that context make it appear that he was referring to the incoming Congress even though strictly speaking he wasn’t. I certainly wouldn’t put it past him…
December 14th, 2006 at 9:28 pm#33 He did not say that?!?!?!?
December 14th, 2006 at 11:42 pmCan anyone dispute Tony Snow’s assessment that “the American public would support President Bush’s potential plan to send more troops to Iraq?†If you’re a Republican then this question is a no-brainer: “Heck, no!†The logic (the Republican’s perception) is that after the November’s elections the American voters whole heartily supported the president’s position in Iraq by voting out the pertinent number of Republicans out of the House of Congress. They demanded a change of course instead of “staying the course.†And to top it off the kicker was that those voters that tip the scale in the House were REPUBLICANS VOTERS. Yes, Mr. Tony “Snow Job†Snow, nothing gets by you. Uh, Tony, you can now pull your head out of your ass.
December 15th, 2006 at 2:09 amthen congress would have remained republican, snow is nothing but a lying piece of shit.
December 15th, 2006 at 8:23 amWTF is talking babbling about? This president doesn’t work with anybody. He just lives in his bubble and does whatever he wants.
January 8 – start the investigations, begin dismantling the bubble around the frat boy.
December 15th, 2006 at 8:56 am44 – I didn’t make sense.
WTF is Snow babbling about. Guess I should read my comments BEFORE I post.
December 15th, 2006 at 8:57 amInvestigate the cheerleader, save the world.
December 15th, 2006 at 8:58 amThose poll numbers reflected the public’s view of the Republican Congress. That is yesterday. Today the Democrats will soon be in charge. Americans are looking forward to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi. I know I am.
December 15th, 2006 at 9:05 amTony must be smoking something that he shouldn’t be smoking. I don’t know what poll he’s reading, but I’d get my eyes checked if I were him. That internal poll of wh employees doesn’t count and he should know that. You can’t asked employee to grade their boss especially when their jobs depend on him and he’s standing right there when they answer.
I think Tony has been drinking too much of the kool aid and it’s gone to his head. The best advice I can give him is to stop drinking now and it will wear off eventually and he’ll see things clearer then.
December 15th, 2006 at 2:55 pmi am picturing snow, rhummy, bush, rove, gannon, in one big circle jerk.
