Bush on Rumsfeld: ‘This Man Knows How To Lead…And The Country Is Better Off For It’»

Just 2 out 10 Americans approve of President Bush’s Iraq policy. It hasn’t fazed him. Today, President Bush gave outgoing Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld a “rousing endorsement.”

At his farewell ceremony, Bush said that Rumsfeld “knows how to lead and he did and the country is better off for it. Watch it:

The ceremony featured “an armed forces full honor parade” for Rumsfeld.

Since when have American Generals or Admirals, whatever that guy is, started wearing all their medals like Russians?

Yeah…I thought there was only one person in the country who was best capable of being Sec. of Defense, sorta like the Harriet Miers/Supreme Court thingy.

  12. Marie Says:

The monkey says Rummy “knows how to lead and he did and the country is better off for it.” We all know that what Bush says or thinks is meaningless. Who cares what his opinion is — we know all too well that he is irrelevant.
Give all of his failed appointees a medal of freedom, a round of applause and a pat on the back — Bush has no clue.
He is a failed president, presiding over a failed administration, still fighting a failed war, and he thinks his words mean something.

  13. Yikes Says:

How exactly is the country better off George?

  14. Jonathon Says:

Ummmmm… if that is true, then why did you get rid of him, Mr. Bush?

COME. ON. Maybe that crap plays with your base, but anyone with 1/2 of a brain knows you’re just running your mouth.

Definetly in the top five most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I hope chimpy doesn’t expect the same kind of parade when he leaves office. I’m thinking more of a parade of orange jumpsuits with ankle chains.

    See ya in Germany, Rummy!

As a going away present I would be willing to buy a plane ticket for Rummy to visit Berlin in a few months.

  18. Smedley Says:

    Heck of a job Rummie!

  19. hellinabucket Says:

Please, someone in the media call him on this. And if he’s such a great leader George, then why don’t you follow him into retirement? I’m sure the country would be much better off if you would.

  20. theswan Says:

Yea. He lead us into the abyss. The question is will we emerge from Rumsfeld’s failed policies?

Which country is he talking about? The one where they are buying retirement homes with their war profiteering money? “Cause it sure isn’t the US that is better off.

  22. Nova16 Says:

Bush at a press conference looks like the guy making a book report without reading the book. He claims that in spite of all the bad news, he is sleeping well–that’s all well and good–the majority of us just doesn’t want him to wake up.

  23. Rebel In CA Says:

    Bullshit at its finest.

  24. polybrominated diphenyl Says:

george oh george, why didn’t one of those soldiers do the right thing this afternoon? you were all there, lined up like glass platters at the county fair!!!

i watched and prayed for your demise at the hands of one proud marine who cared enough about his country to see you covered in blood…

  25. Jason Baddo Says:

are there barbarians at the gate yet as this decaying empire like Rome rewards its underpefroming officials. Think Crassius…….The modern day huns and visigoths banging on the American door are the central banks of Asia, Europe and elsewhere demanding their just return.

The ceremony featured “an armed forces full honor parade” for Rumsfeld.

Question: Isn’t it unusual for president to honor a Defense Secretary with a farewell ceremony such as this one?

Also, I tend to believe Pres Bush was not endorsing Rumsfeld tenure at the Pentagon as much as he was acknowledging, showing approval for Rumsfeld’s personal loyalty to him.

    Cronies above all.

  28. carollt Says:

If he is so great, why did the decider decide to fire his ass?

  29. ForTruth Says:

When do our elected reps start acting like they are representing the people and they are spending our money? I don’t want my tax dollars paying for this asshole’s going away party. They should pay for it out of thier own pockets. Thats what we do at the office for people leaving, we buy the party with our own money.

  33. New Yorker Says:

Bush said that Rumsfeld “knows how to lead and he did and the country is better off for it. ”

Tell that to the families of the 22,000 wounded and the 3,000 dead…

  34. John the Elder Says:

If Rummy is the best ever, God help us!

  35. Keith H. Says:

  36. JerryTheAngel Says:

The Axis of EVIL aka. Cheney/Rumsfeld/Bush, have that smug and arrogant, “we know something that you don’t know” about this war. When we are all dead, we will be hailed has conquering heroes. Quite simiply, they are delusional lunatics.

Those who are receiving medals and accolades should be serving time in prison. What these evil men have brought upon both the USA and Iraq, has to go down as one of the most offensive and repugnant invasions and then occupation of another country. as the WORSE ever in history.

FOR WHAT? It’s so that you could use all of these high tech killing machines because if you don’t use them you can’t build more. The shelf life for these 21st Century war toys have to be considered here, you know?

The Military Industrial Complex is alive and kicking, isn’t it? This corrupt Axis of Evil are are joined at the hip with Haliburton and I’m sure if you look very closely with some oversight (COMING TO YOUR DC CONGRESS SOON) that if the dots are connected by a capable investigation, that Impeachment will begin.

Hail To The Chief: Nancy Pelosi.

  37. John Gilpins Says:

George W. can skip Disneyworld next week in Orlando. Sorry, George! Praising Rumsfeld is a ride in FANTASYLAND this week. This is pure fantasy.

What’s so sad is that our tax dollars are hard at work with this MICKEY MOUSE TRIBUTE. I really don’t know how these folks can keep a straight face. Of course, George has had lots of practice living in a fantasy world.

Does Rumsfeld get a gold watch for his good service? Sure! Sure! HE REALLY DESERVES A MICKEY MOUSE WATCH.

I suppose next week Rumsfeld will check into an Alzheimer’s treatment facility, as Rumsfeld’s brain is a goner.

    John

  38. Willy Says:

If King George says it, then it must be true. Have we ever had such an arrogant and dishonest president?

Bush obviously doesn’t understand how democracies work. An elected president serves the will of the people, not his. If he ignores the will of the people then one can only conclude that he hates democracy and all of the Americans he’s supposed to be serving.

  39. LostBob Says:

I was only half listening today but I am pretty sure I heard dubya say that he and Don Rumsfeld had “been through war together”.

A helecopter ride into the green zone does not count. Starting an unjust war that others must go through and die in is not a badge of distinction.

Where is the outrage from the folks who really do have bullets, RPGs and bombs targeted at them every day? Where is the outrage from the families of the nearly 3000 who have died.

  40. Fools on the Hill Says:

I doubt anyone except the war profiteers and criminals were attending. What a Freak Show.

  41. The Trucker Pundit Says:

See here, Preznit Bush Jr. understands what a lot of yew lilly-livered, frilly-lace panty-wearin’, unshaved underarm women, communist liberals DON’T understand.

Sometimes you gotta have BAD things happen… fer yer own GOOD!

Like when yer momma puts the tube in yer butt and pours the soapy water up there. You think she LIKES doin’ that? (Mine did, but that’s another story.) NO! She does it FER YER OWN GOOD!

Preznit Bush Jr. and Rummy just put the tube up our butts. We should be THANKING them.

  42. pete Says:

and what does bush know about leadership?

  43. pete Says:

    trucker, are you retarded?

  44. Libertarian Says:

    Translation:

“This man knows how to lead the country straight to hell. And the war profiteers are better off for it.”

  45. Glenn Becker Says:

I can only surmise that the best way to lead, then, is to make it illegal for anyone to do anything but blindly follow.

  46. Skeptic Says:

Well, I guess it begs the obvious question If he is so great, WHY DID YOU FIRE HIM?
