‘Final fantasy.’

‘Final fantasy.’

The neoconservative American Enterprise Institute yesterday released its latest plan for Iraq, “Choosing Victory,” which declares, “We must send more American combat forces into Iraq.” American Prospect’s Spencer Ackerman has the lowdown.

And I bet the boyz & girlz from American Enterprise Institute are signing up and slappin’ on the body armor as we speak.

And Cap’n Dubya is rearranging the deck chairs on the SS Minnow and whistling the theme song to his latest Fox movie – “I am the Decider – and You’r Not”.

  2. ForTruth says:

Is it a giant video game to the NeoCons? Yes it is.

  3. Jay Randal says:

Americans have to protest this decision to send more troops to Iraq! The Iraq occupation must be ended ASAP or Bush must be impeached!

  4. Grand Moff Texan says:

    Does this mean they’re enlisting?

  5. Pity The Fool says:

Rumsfeld expressly rejected that notion when he was invading Iraq.

  6. upside00 says:

I heard the Bush Twins are volunteering as Donut Dollies to provide some comfort and recreation as well. (Assuming their livers can hold out.)

  7. larry56 says:

    To sum Kagan’s plan -

    1. Create more terrorists.

    2. Get more US soldiers killed.

    3. Weaken the US military throughout the world.

    4. Spend a lot more money

    5. Undertake more constructions projects which are sabotaged and from which funds are stolen.

    6. Have GW who created the FUBAR known as Iraq run the plan.

  8. TripMaster Monkey says:

What’s really funny is how they plan on getting the extra troops. Apparently, they’re just going to make the ones already there stay even longer, while cutting even shorter the leave of those who aren’t.

Our troops are already too exhausted from the endless ’stop loss’ redeployments…stretching them even thinner like this guarantees a very bad outcome.

  9. Shamika says:

Sounds like stay the course on steroids.

  10. Shamika says:

    larry56:

Or anyone else; I’ve heard the term FUBAR.

    What does that mean.

  11. Briseadh na Faire says:

    from the article:

Victory is still an option in Iraq. America, a country of 300 million people with a GDP of $12 trillion, and more than one million soldiers and marines can regain control of Iraq,

This approach requires a national commitment to victory in Iraq:

•The ground forces must accept longer tours for several years. National Guard units will have to accept increased deployments during this period.
•Equipment shortages must be overcome by transferring equipment from non-deploying active duty, National Guard, and reserve units to those about to deploy. Military industry must be mobilized to provide replacement equipment sets urgently.
•The president must request a dramatic increase in reconstruction aid for Iraq. Responsibility and accountability for reconstruction must be assigned to established agencies. The president must insist upon the completion of reconstruction projects. The president should also request a dramatic increase in CERP funds.
•The president must request a substantial increase in ground forces end strength. This increase is vital to sustaining the morale of the combat forces by ensuring that relief is on the way. The president must issue a personal call for young Americans to volunteer to fight in the decisive conflict of this age.

Thus spake the War Profiteers: More Troops! More Equipment! More Money!

    Next up:
•We must Federalize the State’s Militias in order to have enough troops to Win in Iraq.
•We must have a draft to insure Victory in Iraq.
•We must balance the budget by eliminating social programs and costly oversight agencies in order to free up more money for the War Effort and insure Victory in Iraq.
•We must fuel the economy by reducing the tax burden on corporations in order to gain Victory in Iraq.
•We must eliminate costly environmental regulations in order to have Victory in Iraq.
•We must monitor and regulate speech on the Internet so that we can have Victory in Iraq.
•We must jail journalists and dissenters who would reveal what crimes the Government is committing, thus undermining the plan for Victory in Iraq.
•We must have public executions of enemies of the State in order to set examples of those who would work against Victory in Iraq.
•We must have a totalitarian state in America to garner the resources and the national will to instill democracy in Iraq.

  14. Bishop Tutu says:

How many of the following decribe the neocon right and fundamentalist ideals.I believe they are a cult gathering, the Bush administration.Would the American Enterprise Institute fall into this cult phrasiology?

It is going to be a hardfight to bring an end to this cult like gathering that is fundies and neocons. The American Enterprise Institue is the -war plans- faction of this no?

    Q. How can I tell if a religion is a cult?

    A. There are several ways:

    (1) It has one person (mortal) as the final authority.

    (2) It has another book to explain the Bible and that book will be given the same authority as the Bible.

    (3) It may be the enemy of the sciences.

    (4) It will pervert the Trinity or the nature of Christ, calling Him a prophet, an archangel, a half-way house between God and man – but never God incarnate. It may deny His humanity.

    (5) It will give undue emphasis to certain Scriptures and de-emphasize the rest.

    (6) It will limit personal freedom — in the name of submission to authority.

    (7) It will get into your personal life with abnormal taboos.

    (8) It will get much of your money.

  15. Shamika says:

    DOH!

    Got it,thanx.

  16. dlet says:

    Q. How can I tell if a religion is a cult?

Isn’t that question redundant? All religions are cults.

  17. G. W Bush aka Da Man says:

No, seriously folks together we find a forward to victory in Iraq. Its simple, we just win by victory. I mean how hard can that be? Y’all naysayers have missed the boat, the victory in Iraq boat and let me be the first to say that its a boat built on a plan of success. Smell that, its victory cookin’ and we free people of common good will are all invited to the victory feast. Now its going to take a while to set the table, find the right caterers and all that, but when it finally does happen we are gonna have a great big victorical banquet. You’ll see.

The Bush Twins, Mary Cheney, Kerry’s daughters and all the others. Are they going?

  21. Taguba says:

    Thanks Da Man GWB.
Now i know the “plan” . It was just staring me in the face all along. Victory. Wow, it’s like a light went on in my head. Victory. Why would the American people be against that doozy of a detailed strategy?? Victory, it sounds so simple and yet the Dems and many GOP leaders cannot seem to get in line with the clear reason for our continued presence in Iraq.
    Ugh!!!!

  22. Shamika says:

If nothing else,I hope this already failed buildup gets rid of McCain for good.

  23. G. W Bush aka Da Man says:

Taguba, I can’t help but be sensical towards your confusion. Victory is very similar to defeat except with victory we win. Its part of our continuing strategy to figure out how to win. We cant leave before the job is done and in the new year we will be redefining what that job is. It will take patience and faith. Remember I’m the Decider and it a’int over until I decide to pull the plug, I mean finish with dignity.

  24. Sharon Cox says:

Alway’s thought FUBAR ment F*****up beyond all repair but all the above are just as good….Cluster F*** comes to mind when I think of bull shit bush……….Blessings all, we realy need them..

Who is this guy that he’s telling others that they MUST accept longer tours and increased deployments? Is he enlisting? Is anyone in his family enlisting? Is he personally going to make up for the loss of income that reservists will incur?

Is anyone as sickened by the blind arrogance of these Neo-cons as I am?

Another troll from Neo-con planet… Send more people to the abattoir that is Iraq… Great plan. When are you enlisting? When are your children and other relatives enlisting?

  31. larry56 says:

I thing the interests of the neo-con think tanks has now been separated from the interests of the Bush White House. The neo-con think tanks are for fighting wars on every shore from North Korea to Lebanon. The war is far from onerous to those at the think tanks. These people get paid to promote war. The ‘Long War’ has to proceed at all costs.’Fascism with a human face’ otherwise known as neo-conservatism must triumph. Whereas a successful war strategy was the original plan, obviously bungled, now the goal of the neo-con think tanks is apparently a highly unsuccessful war strategy. If the US national interests receive an almost fatal blow then the Long War has to continue. The strategy of the neo-con think tanks is victory through defeat. Bush is going to be stuck with any defeat though, appropriately so.

  33. KikiD says:

Why should we put more troops in harm’s way just to salvage Drunky McAWOL’s legacy? This is pure madness, even the generals say it wouldn’t help…only Republicans who are thinking of running for President are behind this.

  34. upside00 says:

#26 – Any of the above would be more accurate inasmuch as you all are pretty much against “progress” in the war against terror

    Comment by Cynicon Implant

And Iraq is part of the ‘war on terror’ because…..? Oh yea, we illegally invaded their country, caused hundreds of thousands of deaths, f*#ked up their entire infrastructure, have most of the world hating us, took our eye off the real target, Afghanistan…… and made Halliburton and the Boyz in the Dubya Regime even richer.

What have you been smoking, Cynicon, or maybe just too much Kool-aid.

  35. roo says:

hmm. politics overruling the military’s recommendation? why does that sound familiar

  36. Va Fanculo says:

Saw on some board or other the other day, I think, that the GWOT should be renamed Total War Against Terror. The acronym has my vote, perhaps Kagan et al should pick up on this…

  37. Gregor Samsa says:

Do these people ever consider the Iraqis’ opinion on this matter?

It obviously never has occurred to them that Iraq is a sovereign nation. Or so we were told by the Great misLeader himself.

  38. Publicus says:

We The People have decided otherwise. Since Bush and his enablers are over-riding us, they will have to live with the consequences. (There will be consequences.) Unfortunately, many of our soldiers and an unknown number of innocent civilians with have to die for them.

  39. upside00 says:

These Neocon Chickenhawks never met a war they didn’t like. (As long as they were out of harm’s way and made lots of money.)

Ever wonder why so many Iraqi veterans have run for public office in 2006, and as being Democrat candidates AGAINST the war?

Why don’t you all strap on the body armor and ‘git yer asses over there’, before it is too late! Don’t miss out on all the fun.

NAWWWW, they aren’t called CHICKENhawks for nothing!

  40. Cynicon Implant says:

OK, I guess you all are right. Let’s just pack it in and sit back and let the terrorists do what they want. Seemed to work pretty well before — except for the thousands of Americans that died through the 80’s, 90’s and on 9/11. But hey, at least then we wouldn’t be AT WAR, which is something that should never, ever happen — because war is evil and can never be justified.

Remember, it is better and more noble to be slaughtered at the hands of your enemies than to fight back.

Now then, let’s all hold hands and sing kumbaya, OK?

  41. Shamika says:

Here’s what Bush’s plan might be.

Knowing that Iraq is lost,go ahead and beef up troops, acting like he intends to ‘win’;knowing the Dems. will protest, then try to place blame for failure on them.
That worked after Viet Nam,but we can’t let it work this time.
After all,he started this damn thing.
If he really intends to follow through to ‘victory’,this should really bury Rethugs in 08;but unfortunately, many more of our troops too.

  42. Gregor Samsa says:

    Cynicon,

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

Iraq’s president already said he doesn’t want more American troops in his country.

  43. Larry from C says:

Remember the Downing Street Memos that proved Bush lied us into this war? Yes, the memos that our corporate media completely ignored.

A new document from the UK was recently released. It had previously been classified under Britan’s “Official Secrets Act”.

    This new document:

….makes it clear that Mr Blair must have known Saddam Hussein possessed no weapons of mass destruction.

….also reveals that British officials warned US diplomats that bringing down the Iraqi dictator would lead to the chaos the world has since witnessed.

…It shows “there was no intelligence evidence of significant holdings of CW [chemical warfare], BW [biological warfare] or nuclear material” held by the Iraqi dictator before the invasion. “There was, moreover, no intelligence or assessment during my time in the job that Iraq had any intention to launch an attack against its neighbours or the UK or the US,” he added.

…(the) evidence directly challenges the assertions by the Prime Minster that the war was legally justified because Saddam possessed WMDs which could be “activated” within 45 minutes and posed a threat to British interests.

Here’s the link to the complete unedited article:
    http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/politics/article2076137.ece

Write the media and demand they report on this new “smoking gun” document.

Just one question for you. Can you name one incident of an American being killed by an Iraqi outside of Iraq? Seriously…one terrorist incident where this happened.

  45. Shamika says:

    Word to Cynicon:

Saddam and Osama DID NOT like each other.
The Iraq occupation is creating terrorists. That means you,and your kind, want to sing kumbaya with Osama.

  46. ScrewBush says:

#40, I’ll try to go slow for you’re benefit.

    1. Either you want to worship at the feet of Bush, or you want what’s best for America. what do you do when those interests are mutually exclusive? Most folks here have chosen to support America.

    2. War is not always evil and impossible to justify. But what if after Japan bombed Perl Harbor, FDR invaded Mexico? Do you support your idol Bush, or do you run into the street and protest that your President is insane? Most people here believe their own eyes. We were hit by a bunch of Saudi’s, funded by more Saudi’s, having a base of operation in Afghanistan, and having absolutely nothing to do with Iraq. We would choose to ** FINISH ** the war in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, The Decider could really care less about the real country, that housed the real folks who attacked us, because he’s allowing them to regroup there — to become stronger, more organized, and to move closer to retaking control of that country. This is beyond sad, it’s pathetic.

    3. What if you have to choose between strengthend our domestic defenses, hardening domesitc targets, and complete obedience to GOP talking points? Most of us here choose to strengthen America. Run over to the Center for American Progress or the Center for Public Integrity and see how Bush and GOP congress has done nothing since 9/11 to harden our chemical plants, nuclear plants, our borders, the transport of dangerous materials, etc. Hell, look what they’ve done to FEMA. We still don’t have the ability for emergency responders to use a single radio frequence when needed. This is such unacceptable crap.

    4. More examples are really not necessary when you’re faced with supporting a moron with dreams of being a dictator verses supporting your friends, neighbors, and just the bloody constitution. When you come down on the side of the moron in chief, you’ve pretty much declared to the world that: YOU HATE AMERICA.

I hope you wake up someday.

Okay, and while we’re at it, let’s rename the White House to the “Afraid To Admit They Had No Idea What They Were Doing In The First Place And Sent Hundreds Of Thousands To Their Deaths Needlessly House”. Sound good?

A few questions for you: Is there such thing as an impossible task? Yes. Is there such thing as a task that can be accomplished but not under the given circumstances? Yes. What is the task that you think we can accomplish? If you can’t give me an answer with any more sophistication or thought to it than just “To win,” which is pretty much the highest level of sophistication and thought that your president has given it, you can’t be take seriously.

When Bush is asked for a strategy, he answers “To win.” When asked what his goal is, he says “To win.” When asked what his plans are for achieving his goal, he replies “To win.” He’s an idiot and he’s not capable of dealing with this situation at the intellectual level required of something so grave. You, Cynicon Implant, are a person who idolizes an idiot. Why should anyone listen to you?

  52. powkat says:

I just read the article on the neo-cons in Vanity Fair – combined with this article, I can barely express how much these men disgust me!

They blame Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld for not properly conducting their war. They blame the media for encouraging doubt. They blame the American people for not having the cojones to stay in Iraq for 10 or 15 or 20 years.

These are psycopaths masquerading as intellectuals. According to them things are going wrong because of other people – nothing is wrong with their theories. It’s all a theoretical exercise to them, the reality of hundreds of thousands of dead, maimed, and displaced human beings means nothing – they will not be held responsible.

It’s people like Kristol, Ackerman, Perele, Adleman, Frum and others that keep me believing in an afterlife. Call it what you will, karma, God’s justice, somehow these men will pay for their crimes.

  53. WaltTheMan says:

    #44 – dlet,

    Does this qualify?

On May 17, 1987 an Iraqi Mirage fighter fired two Exocet missiles at the American ship USS Stark (FFG-31), killing thirty-seven of the crew.

  54. AvengingAngel says:

In an elaborate ceremony carried live on all the cable news networks, President Bush and Vice President Cheney feted the disgraced Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld with glowing words, military pomp and even a 19 gun salute. “This man knows how to lead and he did,” Bush declared, “and the country is better off for it.”

Rumsfeld, it seems, will not be held to the GOP’s “Les Aspin Standard.” That is, decisions that needlessly cost American lives in battle cost defense secretaries their jobs, but apparently only if Bill Clinton is president.

    For the details, see:
    “Flashback: Rumsfeld Celebrated, Aspin Slandered.”

  55. Zooey says:

The way these people play at this is incredibly sick.

  56. Juan C says:

    Walt:

On 17 May 1987, an Iraqi attack aircraft fired two Exocet missiles, killing 37 sailors and wounding 21 others aboard USS Stark (FFG 31). Iraq apologized, claiming “pilot error.”

Ironically, Washington used the Stark incident to blame Iran for escalating the war and sent its own ships to the Gulf to escort eleven Kuwaiti tankers that were “reflagged” with the American flag and had American crews.

One question: US is in America, right? Now, what were US troops doing in another continent?

  57. dlet says:

Well then. That changes my whole perspective on the invasion and occupation in 2003. Glad we had 16 years to build up enough troops and plan it out. Thought the way its going, we could have used a few more.

I am sure Cynicon thanks you for doing that research. ;)

  58. Juan C says:

    From the same article:

It was during these operations that USS Vincennes (CG 49) shot down an Iranian commercial Airbus A300B2-202 airliner [Iran Air Flight 655] on 03 July 1988 after mistaking it for an Iranian F-14. The total of 290 dead civilian passengers, included 66 children. On 22 February 1996 the United States agreed to pay Iran $61.8 million in compensation ($300,000 per wage earning victim, $150,000 per non wage earner) for the 248 Iranians killed in the shootdown.

Regarding the USS Stark incident, the need to use an example from nearly 20 years ago pretty much screams, “We’ve got nothing. We’re just making stuff up as we go along.”

Do you really want to turn back the clock and look at the dealings between the US and Iraq? How about going a little further back and examining the origin of OBL and his band of terrorist. You remember Osama don’t you? I know the prez-nit doesn’t think much about him these days, but he is the guy responsible for 9/11 — the day that changed everything, changed America, changed the world, etc. Osama and his band of terrorists were, oh what did the government used to call them, FREEDOM FIGHTERS!

You Republican groupies, you never take responsibility for anything you morons create. You guys must really suck at chess because you can only think of the very next move, and cannot conceive of what could follow that move. Hence the stupid slogans, “Kill ‘em all”, “deport them all”, “throw ‘em all in jail”, “three strikes”, on and on.

    #62 – ScrewBush,
I did absolutely no research on the USS Stark incident. I remembered it. I am definitely not a Republican. I would not support GWB if he were drowning, though I might toss him an anvil.
The thing that gripped me on the Stark incident is that only two Exocets have ever been fired in the Gulf. Both were aimed at the Stark.

  64. WaltTheMan says:

    My #68,
I must correct myself, three other Exocet missiles were fired at tankers in the Gulf, but, but the USS Stark incident was the sole double barrel attack. It was also the first attack targeting a military ship.

  65. stonehinge says:

O well, Walt, Exocets don’t count for much now that Iran can fire a Sunburn or an Onyx at will. You know, the neo-Cons may be agitating for an escalation in Iraq for the simple fact that they can’t move it across the border into Iran. They surely don’t want to miss out on that next $180 billion emergency spending bill, the one that comes after the one we have to payout now.
