Congressman: ‘I Fear…We Will Have Many More Muslims In The United States’
Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) issued a letter to constituents earlier this month in which he declares, “I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States” if we do not adopt “strict immigration policies.” The letter was inadvertently sent to a local progressive activist, who shared it with the C-Ville Weekly newspaper.
In the letter, Goode references the election of Muslim Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), and warns “American citizens” to “wake up” or “there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office”:
I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.
At another point in the letter, Goode describes telling a “Muslim student” who “came by my office” that the Koran will never be hung on his office wall:
The Ten Commandments and “In God We Trust” are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, “As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office.”
Goode’s bigoted views are no secret, and he uses them to justify more than his hardline immigration policy. Earlier this year, he announced that he opposed increasing the minimum wage because it would “be a magnet for illegal aliens to come to this country. We do not need a strong magnet to lure illegals here.”

I would suggest you go read the personal writings of Americas founding fathers (available on the Internet). I used to think the things you do, because I grew up in evangelical churchs… but when you go read it for yourself you find out that America is NOT Christianity. Some of the good ideals of Jesus WAS in the thinking of the founding fathers (as well as human history and other belief systems), but an established Christian church wasnt one of them.

#7 America is not a Christian nation. That may be the religion of the majority of it’s citizens, but America was not founded on Christianity, regardless of what the Right would like you to think. The founding fathers were Deists, for the most part, which led to certain concepts like the separation of church and state - a concept which, up until recently, helped the US stay out of bloody religious wars.

I am writing you in response to the letter you wrote to Mr. Cruickshank dated December 7, 2006. In which you go on to speak of the immigration policies of this nation, as well as your clear discontent you hold for anyone of the Muslim faith and the Koran in general.
I find it astounding that someone with your bigoted views would be able to actually hold a public office, let alone such a high one. But at the same time, as you disgrace yourself before the public with your utterly absurd remarks, you speak volumes, sir, not only about yourself, but of the people you represent. Not only are you clearly a bigot, but to be elected to a public office means that those that elected you appreciate your bigoted views. It’s pretty clear alot of muslims on earth believe in this concept. While I myself am an atheist - I don’t believe that religion, in the general sense, makes us any more or less primitive. I do believe, however, that religion is easily hijacked, and easily misinterpreted, but nevertheless was responsible for many great (and terrible) things in the history of the world. Take the music of Bach, for example, or the inquisition. What it boils down to is that religion is a tremendously powerful means of influencing humanity, and like anything else can be used for both good and evil.

See, people like you, Answeil Vachette, don’t actually study the religion you put all of your faith into. If you did, you’d know that the word that is mistranslated as “day” in modern Bibles does not say “day” in the original tongue. The word mistranslated as “day” is a generic word meaning “period of time”, which can more properly be translated as “Age” or “Epoch”.
In the same way that the Bible does not say, “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live”, it says, “You shall not suffer a POISONER to live.” Just like Moses didn’t like 900 YEARS, he lived 900 lunar cycles (or months, if you will). Just like Adam and Eve are not said to be the first people, they are said to be the first People. That is to say, the first two members of The Chosen People. The Bible fully acknowledges that there were other people living beyond the Garden of Eden, who were of other tribes, and therefore not of The Chosen People. The laws of Judaism (and thus, of Christianity) are only meant to apply to The People, not all peoples.
Studying is hard, I know. But it is f***ing pathetic just how LITTLE so-called “devout” people know about their own religion. Agnosticism is so much more difficult, but so much more rewarding and logical. I have no idea if Deity exists, and noone, anywhere has EVER presented any actual evidence that Deity exists, merely their own word that Deity exists (much less has an active role in the day-to-day operations of our universe). I’m what is referred to as a ‘lapsed’ Catholic, but I’m starting to have serious thoughts about becoming active again. And, if I do become an active church-going Catholic again, I’ll be a member of the largest Christian denomination in the country. You know what that means? All you puny little minority Christian denominations had better watch out. I’m not worried about the Muslims or Jews. I’m going after the Baptists, who only have about a third the membership that Catholics have. I notice that Goode’s a Baptist. I think he’s going to get a little taste of majority rule. I’m also going after anyone who calls themselves “born again”. As far as I’m concerned, born-agains are heretics. And that’s not a danger from afar. That’s a danger from within.
I’m putting the quasi-Christian megachurches on notice right now. You’d better affiliate yourselves with a real denomination, and a major one at that, or I’m going to take you down. Most of them are way too political to be enjoying tax-exempt staus, anyway.
It’s majority rule for everything now. If you don’t belong to the biggest Christian denomination in the country, you’d better get used to not having your own way. We’re going to strip search Baptists like Goode at the airports, and we’re going to raid the megachurches and confiscate their assets.

The Bible says that anything sexual done out of wedlock is a sin, as is adultery. Homosexuality is not in fact named at all in the Bible except for some passages relating to, I believe, one of the Churches of Jerusalem (the Second, I think). They had an outbreak of red tide, and it killed most of their population. So they outlawed homosexuality IN THAT REGION, and required by law that all men and women of age GET MARRIED, and that noone was allowed to EAT SHELLFISH, so that they could recover their population. No other reason whatsoever. It was a matter of practicality: breed and contribute to the tribe, or be stoned to death.

I just think it’s facinating how some people can be so comfortable with their bigotry. If they didn’t think they could get away with it, they’d keep it to themselves. But, when they look at the numbers and see that their scapegoats aren’t that large a group and probably won’t be able to get back at them, they just let the epithets fly.

You are using the Bible to define reality, rather than allowing reality to define reality. You are TRUSTING the words of MEN who SAY they were told by God what to write, rather than the painfully researched and meticulously documented data that can be REPEATED over and over again that proves that evolution, physics, and all of the other wonders our brains have let us decipher about reality thanks to the Scientific Method and Logic.
There are so many mistranslations, that the books you read today are NOT the books that were actually written. If I wrote a book, gave it to a friend to translate it into French, then gave it to someone else to translate from French to Japanese, then, finally, translated it back into English with a fourth party, and told you this final work was the Word of God, would you believe me? You are a brainwashed person who is stifling your own existance, and you are going to be horribly disappointed in death, methinks. If your God exists, from the way you speak, you do not even follow his teachings, and are surely doomed to an eternity in Hell.
