Congressman: ‘I Fear…We Will Have Many More Muslims In The United States’

Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) issued a letter to constituents earlier this month in which he declares, “I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States” if we do not adopt “strict immigration policies.” The letter was inadvertently sent to a local progressive activist, who shared it with the C-Ville Weekly newspaper.

In the letter, Goode references the election of Muslim Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), and warns “American citizens” to “wake up” or “there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office”:

I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.

At another point in the letter, Goode describes telling a “Muslim student” who “came by my office” that the Koran will never be hung on his office wall:

The Ten Commandments and “In God We Trust” are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, “As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office.”

Goode’s bigoted views are no secret, and he uses them to justify more than his hardline immigration policy. Earlier this year, he announced that he opposed increasing the minimum wage because it would “be a magnet for illegal aliens to come to this country. We do not need a strong magnet to lure illegals here.”

    I would suggest you go read the personal writings of Americas founding fathers (available on the Internet). I used to think the things you do, because I grew up in evangelical churchs… but when you go read it for yourself you find out that America is NOT Christianity. Some of the good ideals of Jesus WAS in the thinking of the founding fathers (as well as human history and other belief systems), but an established Christian church wasnt one of them.

    #7 America is not a Christian nation. That may be the religion of the majority of it’s citizens, but America was not founded on Christianity, regardless of what the Right would like you to think. The founding fathers were Deists, for the most part, which led to certain concepts like the separation of church and state – a concept which, up until recently, helped the US stay out of bloody religious wars.

    I am writing you in response to the letter you wrote to Mr. Cruickshank dated December 7, 2006. In which you go on to speak of the immigration policies of this nation, as well as your clear discontent you hold for anyone of the Muslim faith and the Koran in general.

    I find it astounding that someone with your bigoted views would be able to actually hold a public office, let alone such a high one. But at the same time, as you disgrace yourself before the public with your utterly absurd remarks, you speak volumes, sir, not only about yourself, but of the people you represent. Not only are you clearly a bigot, but to be elected to a public office means that those that elected you appreciate your bigoted views. Though I highly doubt that the people who voted you into office share your views in regards to your discontent for Muslims, be them immigrants or not. To that end, you clearly are not only a bigot, sir, but you must be a con artist as well.     You are a disgrace to the office you hold, and the people you represent. You stand for the complete opposite of compassion, tolerance, appreciation for diversity, and freedom in general. Rather, you would lock the doors of this nation to anyone who does not think or believe in what you believe. You are a bigot, sir, plain and simple. Your bible speaks of forgiveness, compassion, “love thy neighbor”, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” But you refuse to listen and heed those words. What kind of a lesson are you teaching the young?

    I am an atheist, myself. But that does not mean that I am not a compassionate person. People have a right to believe what they choose, and be who they are.

    I totally disagree with most everything said. First, this Koran clearly commands muslims to make infidels convert. That is the jihad idea. It’s pretty clear alot of muslims on earth believe in this concept. So, despite calling people who want to protect our rights to believe in whatever we want to believe in, muslims ain;t gonna allow it. You don’t want to pray five times a day, no problem. Beheaded you be….. so yes I agree with this man’s wake up call. The fact that it appears we stirred this pot all by ourselves is so very concerning…… are we being handed over yet?     Ray is my SQL Server Database Administrator.
    Ray has a wife and three lovely, if rambunctious children.
    He has a masters degree in computer science, from his native country of Pakistan.
    A devout muslim, he prays each day in a space at work reserved for that activity, and on Friday he spends a couple of hours at the local mosque, then works late to make up the hours.
    He is a gentle, polite, intelligent person who is a Muslim.

    I have not converted to Islam, and still have my head.

    I asked Ray about the forced conversion passage in the Koran, and he replied, it’s like history. It’s not a command to be practiced today.
    Kind of like in the bible, you stone adulterers to death. Christians today don’t do that. do they?

While I myself am an atheist – I don’t believe that religion, in the general sense, makes us any more or less primitive. I do believe, however, that religion is easily hijacked, and easily misinterpreted, but nevertheless was responsible for many great (and terrible) things in the history of the world. Take the music of Bach, for example, or the inquisition. What it boils down to is that religion is a tremendously powerful means of influencing humanity, and like anything else can be used for both good and evil.

    When you are part of the monopoly religion (christianity) all those things seem like good ideas, but introduce another religion and it all blows up in your face.

The laws of Judaism (and thus, of Christianity) are only meant to apply to The People, not all peoples.

Agnosticism is so much more difficult, but so much more rewarding and logical. I have no idea if Deity exists, and noone, anywhere has EVER presented any actual evidence that Deity exists, merely their own word that Deity exists (much less has an active role in the day-to-day operations of our universe). I’m what is referred to as a ‘lapsed’ Catholic, but I’m starting to have serious thoughts about becoming active again. And, if I do become an active church-going Catholic again, I’ll be a member of the largest Christian denomination in the country. You know what that means? All you puny little minority Christian denominations had better watch out. I’m not worried about the Muslims or Jews. I’m going after the Baptists, who only have about a third the membership that Catholics have. I notice that Goode’s a Baptist. I think he’s going to get a little taste of majority rule. I’m also going after anyone who calls themselves “born again”. As far as I’m concerned, born-agains are heretics. And that’s not a danger from afar. That’s a danger from within.

    I’m putting the quasi-Christian megachurches on notice right now. You’d better affiliate yourselves with a real denomination, and a major one at that, or I’m going to take you down. Most of them are way too political to be enjoying tax-exempt staus, anyway.

The Bible says that anything sexual done out of wedlock is a sin, as is adultery.     I just think it’s facinating how some people can be so comfortable with their bigotry. If they didn’t think they could get away with it, they’d keep it to themselves. We the people of the United States in order to form a more perfect union chose to live here. We worked hard to build our country. We left our homelands and many of the policies and taboos of those homelands to become Americans. We studied to learn the ways of America and tried to fit in. We learned the language and for the most part respected the laws. After all that is why we wanted to get away form our old homeland and become Americans.

    It seems the new breed of immigrants want to bring there problems here and make them our problems. Remember the reason we want to live here is to have the chance for freedom and prosperity that America gives. If we bring along the reasons we wanted to leave our old homes we still have those problems to deal with. It is not freedom for all if you bully or put down others. And that’s IF you’re even allowed to post. Is it your thinking that to disagree with a conservative opinion is un-American? Are you suggesting that we ‘liberals’ shouldn’t be allowed to expres our disagreement with Rep. Goode?

    Muslims are .6% of the U.S. population right now. You’re fearing a takeover? I think that qualifies you as a bigot.

    And for those of you who threw scripture out in the comments consider this: The Bible says that God and Jesus are one and they are also one with the “holy spirit”. And God did lead his people to war. Read the old testament of the Bible.

    Where does the Old Testament mention Jesus by name? And can you cite a passage where God says we should be waging war against Islam?

    1. The Jewish population in the United States tends to lean more towards the Democratic Party, and not the GOP. Why? How can the left simultaneously welcome and discriminate against those of Jewish faith and/or descent?

    Now I am an atheist, and I don’t agree with the Christianizing of our Nation’s Laws, but so long as there is a Christian Majority in the nation they can keep trying. But the key difference is that Christian’s can separate Religion and Politics, but Islam cannot. The two are bound together at the base of the religion, and that is the problem with more Muslim’s coming into the nation unhindered.

    Personally I would say we need to restrict all immigration, but I agree that the Muslim immigration poses the greatest threat to the American way of life, and I for the life of me don’t understand how so many of you just don’t see that.

    I agree that I am not as well versed in everything as I could be. And my honest stance is that all religion should be removed from the World. I can’t stand organized religion in any form.

    With that said though, I do feel the Muslim religion presents a larger threat to the world than does any of the other major religions. Perhaps it is because it is younger than than the others, and has not had a chance to grow and evolve past the force our religion on everyone phase. I do think that the reality/threat of Sharia Law is the among the worst things in this world. The way people, women escpecially, are treated in Muslim states absolutely disgusts me. I welcome people who want to integrate into our society and make America better, but I do not think that the majority of Muslims want to integrate into our way of life as much as they want to change our way of life to accomadate them.

    And in America, unlike Norway and Australia, we pander to people who want to change our way of life to suit their ideals. If we took a stance like some of the other Nations in the world and just said “If you want to come to America, then come to America as it is. Do not expect us us to change the way our culture is to fit yours.” But most people in this nation are too afraid to offend others to make such a statement, and that saddens me.

    With Islamic Radicalism, I feel that their radicals are not so far from their base, unlike in Amercian Christianity where the radicals are pretty far from the base. If you really don’t think that Islam wants to be the only religion in the world (more so than the other religions) than perhaps you should read up a bit was well.

    I do plan to write more later, since this isn’t an opportune time for me. But I do want to say: I’m glad we live in a Republic, not a democracy. Within this Republic we have a Federal Goverment of which Mr. Goode is an elected part. Most of you are trying to interject Democratic thinking into your writing .. that is if you have proceeded your writing with any form of thinking at all. It’s really easy to write “crap” and “bigot” when you have no clue what you’re talking about. Democracy is the most vile form of government… democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention: have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property: and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.
    This is why we have a Republic with a Federalist from of goverment.

    I’ve seen some interviews with Goode and am disturbed by the fact that in the interview he pretty much says exactly, word for word, parts of the letter…I’m always a little paranoid, I suppose, but that starts to seem like this letter wasn’t sent as an accident to the head of the Sierra Club in his district, but that it probably was a calculated stunt (ala Karl Rove) to generate exactly this kind of publicity and make him look a little like a victim at the hands of the liberal press who are exploiting the letter sent in “error” to the radial left-wing ideologue who promptly and gleefully turned it into a media frenzy.

    Much more effective than if he’d had a press conference where he read the text of the letter all on his own.

    I really miss America…and not the one that Donald Trump gave a second chance to.

He was a trader and a treaty breaker, one who was not to be trusted by those within his sphere of infuence and especially those outside his group.     At first, it may be difficult for a simple person to understand the great ideals or principles of this great nation. Leaders lead, followers follow the leader. Leaders do not follow. Leaders lead by examples.
    As for 314, you may not have seen a Muslim as an elected official in the past; but we being a leader, we do things differently. Our ideals, we cherish compels us to act differently from others for the better. Our American ideals separate us from others.
    Rep. Ellison’s election reinforces my belief that American ideals are greater than ones’ religious belief. It makes me believe American values of tolerance, diversity and religious freedom are vibrant and well alive. Moreover, what makes us stronger is the value system built on respect for differences, and democratic pluralism. In addition, the belief of standing up for the weak and underrepresented in the society makes our country robust. Anyone preaching anything other than those values does not know America.. Welcome to America and our enduring beliefs!

    The notion of one’s religious belief being a roadblock to separate us from each other and for us not able to enjoy the American values is totally abhorrent and Un-American. We are stronger and wiser when we stand together, regardless of color, race, religion or any other differences.
    America is big enough for us to be an inclusive society and for everyone to live in harmony.     Going back to the Nation/Home thinking.
    I do have a home. I have a wife and four children along with two grand children. My wife and I have been providing a home for not only ourselves, but our children and now their children. I personally think that we had four great kids. Yes, they had their problems and had to learn to accept each other and have tolerance towards each other. This wasn’t easy sometimes. And sometimes they would respond in such a way that we as parents were not able to be tolerant of. This often resulted in one or more of the children receiving some kind of punishment. We are providing the same kind of care for our grand children .. although I think as grandparents we tend to be a little more tolerant of them, or at least that’s what our children tells us.

    A part of our responsibility in providing this home was providing security and protection for this family. There were books we would not allow, TV programs which were banned and even some children who were not welcome in this home. We didn’t allow things into our home which would destroy the family. We didn’t allow alcohol. We didn’t allow drugs. We didn’t allow pornography. We didn’t allow certain reading material. We didn’t allow unbridled speech. We didn’t allow meanness or fighting. Yes, I suppose you could say we were intolerant, but personally I saw and still see this as being responsible to those whom we had a responsibility toward.

    I hope you have already gotten my point. It’s not hard when you bring this issue closer to home. I’m still responsible to my family. I see this nation as my home and therefore their home. I do not want anyone being tolerant of evil which is focused upon destroying this home and my family. Therefore, I’m very intolerant of anyone promoting that I and my family have to bow down to their way of thinking. I have to give them the authority to rule over me. I must enter into their evil conspiring or face death or a fate worst than death. I am not tolerant of this at all.     Personally I don’t follow any organized religion but instead I try to follow the Golden Rule, Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. Instead of trying to tell someone else what he or she is doing wrong and how to live their lives, I try to live a life that others might follow. I try to not condemn others that are different, but rather try to see what their differences are and whether I can accept the person for what they live.

    Without using too many generalities, Goode, Llyod, the Neo-Cons, Bushites, and the radical Islamic fundamentalists ALL try to condemn others for their differences and tell them how to live. I am sure that the majority of republicans, Islamists, and other religions of the world wish to live in peace and harmony. It is the radicals of the many groups that must be feared.

    Personally, I support those candidates that I feel try to follow the same ideals I share. I will donate to the campaign of who ever runs against Goode in the next election, even though I live in ‘ORYGUN’, and I will support who ever runs against the national republican candidate next election (just not Hillary).

Instead of trying to tell someone else what he or she is doing wrong and how to live their lives, I try to live a life that others might follow. I try to not condemn others that are different, but rather try to see what their differences are and whether I can accept the person for what they live.

    Without using too many generalities, Goode, Llyod, the Neo-Cons, Bushites, and the radical Islamic fundamentalists ALL try to condemn others for their differences and tell them how to live. I am sure that the majority of republicans, Islamists, and other religions of the world wish to live in peace and harmony. It is the radicals of the many groups that must be feared.

    Personally, I support those candidates that I feel try to follow the same ideals I share. I will donate to the campaign of who ever runs against Goode in the next election, even though I live in ‘ORYGUN’, and I will support who ever runs against the national republican candidate next election (just not Hillary).

    Yes Lloyd, you are correct. I am stuck on those three words because the characteristics/mindset exhibited by Rep. Goode and the people who are trying extremely hard, but failing miserably to defend “Goode’s” comments are just that.
    Unfortunately, English language does not have adequate description of those characteristics but the aforementioned.
    I have to admit I am no expert of Islam and do not wish to believe in Islam. However, I do not prevent anyone to believe in Islam. Again, religious belief is a personal choice. Christian belief is not the same as Islam and Jewish belief is not the same as Hinduism, yet people of different religions live in peace and harmony by accepting each other’s differences and respecting one another.

    Rape, murder, robbery, child molestation, kidnapping are criminal acts being forced upon another human being. On the other hand, Islam is a religion. No Religion is forced upon anybody in this country. Everybody is free to choose their religion as they wish.

    I think perhaps it might be helpful for you to take some time to examine our Constitution in light of the teachings of Islam. For instance, are you aware that Islam will not even allow Muslims to be a part of a representative government? A theocracy is all that’s afforded to them, in some form. That is unless it’s something that might be good for Islam, then he can lie and deceive to obtain that. So just the fact that Ellison ran for office should speak volumes. It means that he is either lying about being a Muslim or about being able to be a part of our government. Which, I don’t know. But that he is lying is very obvious and he should be nowhere near D.C.. Why oh why, do you think we have a constitution? You know, if someone will lie to obtain something then there’s no end to what he might do to keep it.

    I’m not saying Ellison cannot believe what he wants about whatever he wants. I am saying that his confession of being a Muslim disqualifies him from service in our government. Or don’t you know a Muslim can only pledge allegiance to the Qur`an? Not our nation, not our government, not our constitution, not our people, not me nor you or my family.

    All I’m doing is putting forth facts with some deductive reasoning, which it doesn’t take much of. Oh .. you might want to read some history concerning Islam also. How many strikes do we need to provide them before we can no long tolerate their behavior? Personally, I see them as striking out centuries ago. If they desire to show me how peaceful they are and how much they love my country, then let them come and accept our laws, our way of life and stop confronting and demanding that I conform to theirs.     I quite understand Congressman Virgil Goode’s concern and admired his courage in speaking out. These days, it’s sometimes fairly difficult to hold an intelligent conversation regarding the state of Israel without some fear of being labeled an anti-Semite. That is a card I think Israel, and the Israeli lobby here in the States, plays very well. However, much of the turmoil in the Middle East can be traced back to Israel. Without an open and honest discussion regarding Israel’s role in the conflict we will never have hope for peace in the Middle East. I’m not sure the leaders of Israel want peace. The current conflict between Lebanon (Hezbollah) and Israel escalated out of control way too fast – and Israel was in the drivers seat. Hezbollah captured two Israeli military members to use as bargaining chips to gain the release of Lebanese prisoners in Israeli custody (many being held in violation of the Geneva Convention. Hezbollah’s action hardly seems to justify Israel’s response. What I’m trying to say with the foregoing is that people shouldn’t feel the need for self-censorship, for fear of being labeled by the conservatives or the liberals. Kelly Yip

    Democrat Keith Ellison is now officially the first Muslim United States congressman. True to his pledge, he placed his hand on the Quran, the Muslim book of jihad and pledged his allegiance to the United States during his ceremonial swearing-in.

    Capitol Hill staff said Ellison’s swearing-in photo opportunity drew more media than they had ever seen in the history of the U.S. House. Ellison represents the 5th Congressional District of Minnesota.

    The Quran Ellison used was no ordinary book. It once belonged to Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States and one of America’s founding fathers. Ellison borrowed it from the Rare Book Section of the Library of Congress. It was one of the 6,500 Jefferson books archived in the library.

    Ellison, who was born in Detroit and converted to Islam while in college, said he chose to use Jefferson’s Quran because it showed that “a visionary like Jefferson” believed that wisdom could be gleaned from many sources.

    There is no doubt Ellison was right about Jefferson believing wisdom could be “gleaned” from the Muslim Quran. At the time Jefferson owned the book, he needed to know everything possible about Muslims because he was about to advocate war against the Islamic “Barbary” states of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Tripoli.

    Ellison’s use of Jefferson’s Quran as a prop illuminates a subject once well-known in the history of the United States, but, which today, is mostly forgotten – the Muslim pirate slavers who over many centuries enslaved millions of Africans and tens of thousands of Christian Europeans and Americans in the Islamic “Barbary” states.

    Over the course of 10 centuries, Muslim pirates cruised the African and Mediterranean coastline, pillaging villages and seizing slaves.

    The taking of slaves in pre-dawn raids on unsuspecting coastal villages had a high casualty rate. It was typical of Muslim raiders to kill off as many of the “non-Muslim” older men and women as possible so the preferred “booty” of only young women and children could be collected.

    Young non-Muslim women were targeted because of their value as concubines in Islamic markets. Islamic law provides for the sexual interests of Muslim men by allowing them to take as many as four wives at one time and to have as many concubines as their fortunes allow.

    Boys, as young as 9 or 10 years old, were often mutilated to create eunuchs who would bring higher prices in the slave markets of the Middle East. Muslim slave traders created “eunuch stations” along major African slave routes so the necessary surgery could be performed. It was estimated that only a small number of the boys subjected to the mutilation survived after the surgery.

    When American colonists rebelled against British rule in 1776, American merchant ships lost Royal Navy protection. With no American Navy for protection, American ships were attacked and their Christian crews enslaved by Muslim pirates operating under the control of the “Dey of Algiers”–an Islamist warlord ruling Algeria.

    Because American commerce in the Mediterranean was being destroyed by the pirates, the Continental Congress agreed in 1784 to negotiate treaties with the four Barbary States. Congress appointed a special commission consisting of John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin, to oversee the negotiations.

    Lacking the ability to protect its merchant ships in the Mediterranean, the new America government tried to appease the Muslim slavers by agreeing to pay tribute and ransoms in order to retrieve seized American ships and buy the freedom of enslaved sailors.

    Adams argued in favor of paying tribute as the cheapest way to get American commerce in the Mediterranean moving again. Jefferson was opposed. He believed there would be no end to the demands for tribute and wanted matters settled “through the medium of war.” He proposed a league of trading nations to force an end to Muslim piracy.

    In 1786, Jefferson, then the American ambassador to France, and Adams, then the American ambassador to Britain, met in London with Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja, the “Dey of Algiers” ambassador to Britain.

    The Americans wanted to negotiate a peace treaty based on Congress’ vote to appease.

    During the meeting Jefferson and Adams asked the Dey’s ambassador why Muslims held so much hostility towards America, a nation with which they had no previous contacts.

    In a later meeting with the American Congress, the two future presidents reported that Ambassador Sidi Haji Abdul Rahman Adja had answered that Islam “was founded on the Laws of their Prophet, that it was written in their Quran, that all nations who should not have acknowledged their authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as Prisoners, and that every Musselman (Muslim) who should be slain in Battle was sure to go to Paradise.”

    For the following 15 years, the American government paid the Muslims millions of dollars for the safe passage of American ships or the return of American hostages. The payments in ransom and tribute amounted to 20 percent of United States government annual revenues in 1800.

    Not long after Jefferson’s inauguration as president in 1801, he dispatched a group of frigates to defend American interests in the Mediterranean, and informed Congress.

    Declaring that America was going to spend “millions for defense but not one cent for tribute,” Jefferson pressed the issue by deploying American Marines and many of America’s best warships to the Muslim Barbary Coast.

    The USS Constitution, USS Constellation, USS Philadelphia, USS Chesapeake, USS Argus, USS Syren and USS Intrepid all saw action.

    In 1805, American Marines marched across the dessert from Egypt into Tripolitania, forcing the surrender of Tripoli and the freeing of all American slaves.

    During the Jefferson administration, the Muslim Barbary States, crumbling as a result of intense American naval bombardment and on shore raids by Marines, finally officially agreed to abandon slavery and piracy.

    Jefferson’s victory over the Muslims lives on today in the Marine Hymn, with the line, “From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli, we will fight our country’s battles on the land as on the sea.”

    It wasn’t until 1815 that the problem was fully settled by the total defeat of all the Muslim slave trading pirates.

    Jefferson had been right. The “medium of war” was the only way to put and end to the Muslim problem. Mr. Ellison was right about Jefferson. He was a “visionary” wise enough to read and learn about the enemy from their own Muslim book of jihad.
