Congressman: ‘I Fear…We Will Have Many More Muslims In The United States’»

Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) issued a letter to constituents earlier this month in which he declares, “I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States” if we do not adopt “strict immigration policies.” The letter was inadvertently sent to a local progressive activist, who shared it with the C-Ville Weekly newspaper.

In the letter, Goode references the election of Muslim Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), and warns “American citizens” to “wake up” or “there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office”:

I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.

At another point in the letter, Goode describes telling a “Muslim student” who “came by my office” that the Koran will never be hung on his office wall:

The Ten Commandments and “In God We Trust” are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, “As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office.”

Goode’s bigoted views are no secret, and he uses them to justify more than his hardline immigration policy. Earlier this year, he announced that he opposed increasing the minimum wage because it would “be a magnet for illegal aliens to come to this country. We do not need a strong magnet to lure illegals here.”

TPM Muckraker and Glenn Greenwald have more.

Digg It!

Please correct me if I am wrong. But isnt there more than 5% of the populace that is always puffing out their chests and selfrighteously proclaiming their “family values” or “we are the chosen ones and you are not values”?

And that is exactly the way it should be.We are a Christian nation. Not a muslim one.Yet.There is nothing anyone can do about the United States being a Christian nation.Christianity is the longest standing religion in America. It has the most followers in America.America is Christianity. It is the 4th largest religion in the world. This nation was founded on Christianity. It is the fact.

If you wish for Muslim Korans to be placed on a democracy.
You must only look to Iraq.If you would give it a chance. There will be all kinds of Korans on democratic walls over there soon.Virgil Goode should recieve a medal for defending the ideals and values of America.

I would suggest you go read the personal writings of Americas founding fathers (available on the Internet). I used to think the things you do, because I grew up in evangelical churchs… but when you go read it for yourself you find out that America is NOT Christianity. Some of the good ideals of Jesus WAS in the thinking of the founding fathers (as well as human history and other belief systems), but an established Christian church wasnt one of them.

  15. Eric Says:

#7 America is not a Christian nation. That may be the religion of the majority of it’s citizens, but America was not founded on Christianity, regardless of what the Right would like you to think. The founding fathers were Deists, for the most part, which led to certain concepts like the separation of church and state - a concept which, up until recently, helped the US stay out of bloody religious wars.

The greatest threat to our standard of living is the Muslims in the world. They number 1.4 billion. That is why we are starting up a democracy over there,so they don`t start one up over here.Christianity is on the worldwide rise.It is great news. Virgil H. Goode, Jr.
    70 East Court Street
    Suite 215
    Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151

    Mr. Goode:

I am writing you in response to the letter you wrote to Mr. Cruickshank dated December 7, 2006. In which you go on to speak of the immigration policies of this nation, as well as your clear discontent you hold for anyone of the Muslim faith and the Koran in general.

I find it astounding that someone with your bigoted views would be able to actually hold a public office, let alone such a high one. But at the same time, as you disgrace yourself before the public with your utterly absurd remarks, you speak volumes, sir, not only about yourself, but of the people you represent. Not only are you clearly a bigot, but to be elected to a public office means that those that elected you appreciate your bigoted views. Though I highly doubt that the people who voted you into office share your views in regards to your discontent for Muslims, be them immigrants or not. To that end, you clearly are not only a bigot, sir, but you must be a con artist as well. To be able to pull the wool over the eyes of those you represent, only to thumb your nose at them after you are elected, showing your true colors. Then again, perhaps you are not a bigot, perhaps you are not a con artist; perhaps you are simply a politician.

You are a disgrace to the office you hold, and the people you represent. You stand for the complete opposite of compassion, tolerance, appreciation for diversity, and freedom in general. Rather, you would lock the doors of this nation to anyone who does not think or believe in what you believe. You are a bigot, sir, plain and simple. Your bible speaks of forgiveness, compassion, “love thy neighbor”, “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” But you refuse to listen and heed those words. What kind of a lesson are you teaching the young?

I am an atheist, myself. But that does not mean that I am not a compassionate person. People have a right to believe what they choose, and be who they are.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

What a brilliant way to placate his constituents with his illegal immigrant double entendre and kick a fellow Congressman in the teeth. E-V-I-L.

So when you stop serving your country, you will have the Koran hanged on your wall? What does the first part of your sentence has to do with the second one? In your wall, you hang whatever you want, robert. There wont be desperate muslims waiting for you to put their holy book in your wall. Take a deep breath, robert.

  34. tarazan Says:

What’s troubling is that these are the words of US Congressman, a lawmaker who is paid by US taxpayers to protect all citizens under one law without prejudices. His words reflect a paranoid man who cannot see a Moslem Congressman elected to the House of Representatives, the first in US history,…He thinks Moslems should not have any representaions or a voice in our democracy. It is really hard to take it from a Congressman who reflect the ideas of the KKK.

And I’m wondering if you are meaning that poor grammar is an indication of treason>?

Because if it is, then I most respectfully must point out that your last sentence is very poorly written “…such utterings on a postings board leave even thinging such a thing”

And must therefore point to you as a traitor because your sentence hardly even makes sense.

Perhaps you could clarify and redeem yourself from hell.

  45. liz Says:

I totally disagree with most everything said. First, this Koran clearly commands muslims to make infidels convert. That is the jihad idea. It’s pretty clear alot of muslims on earth believe in this concept. So, despite calling people who want to protect our rights to believe in whatever we want to believe in, muslims ain;t gonna allow it. You don’t want to pray five times a day, no problem. Beheaded you be….. so yes I agree with this man’s wake up call. The fact that it appears we stirred this pot all by ourselves is so very concerning…… are we being handed over yet? Do you call selling our ports to foreigners handed over? Do you call selling our roads to become toll roads handing over? Do you call allowing immigration any which way especially illegally handed over? Have you lost anything yet? I have. I lost the American way of life long ago. My disabling illness was disenfranchised and I now pay for any care I get in America straight from my pocket. I’ve been sick for over thirty years and misdiagnosed. Finally found out what is wrong and lost my insurance……
If you can’t tell how much America is changing yet… brew a stronger pot of coffee with your sunday news.

You are blaming the wrong crowd. If you want to place blame, don’t blame the muslims, blame the power structure of your own country.

If you would read alternative news with your morning pot of snuff you might understand that.

But me thinks you do protest too much, and you know better.

And by the way, good luck getting some good medical marijuana for what ails you.
If you’d just get some cajones, this country would not be in such an ugly pickle.

  48. Bowdler Says:

Answeil you sound like a christian. Do you believe that the earth was formed in seven days? That Jesus was a virgin birth? That Jesus had a life after death experience? If you believe all these things I must ask: Do you beleive that the tooth fairy places a quarter under your pillow in exchange for a tooth, that the easter bunny hides candy around your house, or that santa comes down the chimney every christmas eve? Let me state this clearly: All major tenents of christianity are false on face.

  49. rpaul Says:

I seriously doubt the bit about the Muslim student asking this joker why he didn’t have anything “Muslim” hanging on the wall of his office.

Thank God this type of dinosaur politician is practically extinct. And what the heck does he think Ellison is, if not a born and bred American citizen whose family has no doubt been living on this continent for a lot longer than Goode’s has? The confusion in his letter bespeaks a confused mind and a shameless panderer who understands nothing of the Constitution he swears to protect.

  52. rpaul Says:

    Liz

The Qur’an states NOTHING like what you claim it states “clearly.” I am sick and tired of people who spout things about Islam as if they knew what they’re talking about, when they quite obviously know nothing.

When is the last time you studied the Qur’an? and how can you speak about what it “clearly” says in the Qur’an if you’ve never actually read or studied it?

You are spouting the rantings of Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, neither of whom knows what he’s talking about when it comes to Islam, the Qur’an or Muslims. Why are there so many people who are ready to slander a religion about which they know nothing?

    It beats me.

  53. ChildrenofLir Says:

  60. Heru Says:

Fortunately the majority of Americans voted in the last election for the democrats because of neocon neanderthals like Goode and his fruity “frictian” (aka: right-wing bigoted christian nutbags) supporters. Enlightened Americans don’t have to see and taste crap to figure out that it’s crap - the smell is usually sufficent enough to identify crap. However most frictians don’t know the difference between crap and the rosy scented, right-wing arses that the crap spews forth from. That’s because they’re too busy waiting on their piss-offed, jim crow lovin’ sky god to come down and kill all of the people named Willie, Pedro, Xuanhung, Nakahiro, Patel, and Abdullah.

  61. RUCerious Says:

Oh, and I take for granted that the (R) in Ansheil’s handle stands for Redneck.

  62. Bowdler Says:

Face it any religion has as much to do with god as my left ball. Religions were formed as a sociological aid as man made his way from primitivism to culture. All claim to be divinely inspired, but if any one of them is true that makes the rest false. They are all false. You want proof? I waited one whole minute for gods wrath to strike me with a lightning bolt or a flying piano or some other godly implement, but I’m still typing.

Strict immigration policy regarding Muslims? What planet does this guy live on? He certainly doesn’t live in the US of A! How about securing our borders and eliminating the illegal aliens entering through our unsafe, porous borders each day, brainchild? He’s worried about muslims; what about the illegal Mexicans? Does he really believe ALL terrorists are Arab? He’s a bigger fool than he looks to be!

  65. RUCerious Says:

  66. ChildrenofLir Says:

Religion was formed to take us from culture to primitivism.

We are more primitive than our pagan forebears.

The lie that religion projects is that we are now more evolved, when the opposite is true. We have devolved thanks to religion.

Liz, I’d like to introduce you to Ray.
Ray is my SQL Server Database Administrator.
Ray has a wife and three lovely, if rambunctious children.
He has a masters degree in computer science, from his native country of Pakistan.
A devout muslim, he prays each day in a space at work reserved for that activity, and on Friday he spends a couple of hours at the local mosque, then works late to make up the hours.
He is a gentle, polite, intelligent person who is a Muslim.
If you met him, and talked to him like your post, he’d likely shake his head, wish you a good day and walk away.
Ray and I have worked together building world class software for over five years.
I have not converted to Islam, and still have my head.
Ray is not atypical. Most Muslims are peace loving individuals. Like the Wacked out Christian right, there is a wacked out Muslim right.
Both practice speech and acts that violate the spirit of their religions.
I asked Ray about the forced conversion passage in the Koran, and he replied, it’s like history. It’s not a command to be practiced today.
Kind of like in the bible, you stone adulterers to death. Christians today don’t do that. do they?

  69. RUCerious Says:

I think Thor may be Crom’s second cousin. Crom breathes life and the vitality to vanquish one’s enemies at birth, then doesn’t want to hear from you again for the rest of your life.
Usually calling on Crom is like swearing or uttering a curse.

  70. ChildrenofLir Says:

    Bowdler

No pagan would have done what Hitler and his henchmen did, cataloging the mass murder of millions. They kept catalogs, they used punch cards. Some of the first IBM punch card machines were used at Auschwitz slave labor camps to track laborers. The very same camps that Bush’s grandfather Prescott company Silesian Mining used. Bush’s grandpappy Prescott ran a company that used slave labor in Poland’s Aushwitz.

So when the f’ck are Americans going to wake up to what’s in store for us.

  71. RealityCheck Says:

Has this good old boy figured out how many Muslims are going to ask for and receive political asylum in the U.S. as the result of his support for his president’s war? Did he never stop to think that if he voted for this war and we lost it, that we would be responsible for protecting our puppets from being butchered when and if we had to pull out? His support has created the very circumstances he is whining about. What brilliance.

Virginia - do you really want this potted plant as your representative???

  72. Answeil Vachette Says:

The same old tired argument.Different time and place.Like it or believe it or not.You are all the children of God.You may have turned away, resisted, turned homosexual for social advancement, turned atheist.Whatever.But deep inside every one of us,including the worst sinner,is the child of God.Call it whatever modern name you like. You have fallen away from God.But it is never too late.To repent. And you will be forgiven.God already promised you this.Deep inside of you,you know I am right.God is at the very core of every living thing.Try as you might,He will never leave you.Unlike you whom have left Him.His son Jesus was not begotten for nothing. He sacrificed his only Son,the Son of Man.

In a nutshell, all non-christians was tallked about in the bible. It was called the great falling away.It ushers in the end times. The Book of Revelation speaks of it at length. It is called the Battle of Armageddon. But cast away the Book of Life.It is okay. The God Almighty spoke of the people who have fallen away in the end days. The unbelievers. You whom do not believe, are but a mere small part in God`s word.He said we would have a Great Falling Away. You are but mere actors, you whom do not believe, even you have your place in the Bible. You are but mere flesh to be sacrificed in the Final Battle if you do not heed my words. The Bible. The Book of Life.I will pray for all nonbelievers here.Amen.

  73. Eric Says:

#67 Religion was not formed - it evolved just like every other social paradigm. While I myself am an atheist - I don’t believe that religion, in the general sense, makes us any more or less primitive. I do believe, however, that religion is easily hijacked, and easily misinterpreted, but nevertheless was responsible for many great (and terrible) things in the history of the world. Take the music of Bach, for example, or the inquisition. What it boils down to is that religion is a tremendously powerful means of influencing humanity, and like anything else can be used for both good and evil.

  74. Bowdler Says:

Isn’t pagan a perjoritive term. It assumes that someone who doesn’t have christian beliefs has no beliefs at all. It is the term that missionaries give to aboriginal people while they wipe out there native beliefs.

  75. Eric Says:

Go away Answeil - you’re contributing nothing useful to this conversation.

  76. tarazan Says:

#46-Liz ..In support of the Congressman’s fears you wrote : [ First, this Koran clearly commands muslims to make infidels convert . That is the jihad idea. It is pretty clear alot of moslems on earth believe in this concept] . It is apparent that you did not read the Koran, and you did not travel enough around the world to see that in most Moslem countries specially the old Middle Eastern countries like Egypt,Jordan,Palestinian territories,Turkey,Syria,Iraq and many others have churches still exist since early times of Christianity and Christians still live and worship among majority Moslems populations. In all neighborhoods I lived in in USA,no Moslem ever came to my door for over 35 years asking to convert me,or mail me any letter with regard to converting me,however I been having people knocking my door from all kind of churches from Jehova Witnesses to others and they call me and sent me mail……so Liz your fear is not in place…and stays unfounded….no Moslem is going to convert you..just relax. Moslem do share with Christians their faith , they believe in the Bible and the Turah also. You also mentioned that ‘we should be free to believe in what we believe in’ ….Whom you refer to when you use the word ‘WE’ ?!! You don’t think an American Moslem is part of this ‘WE’ word you mentioned..or he should be excluded…?!! You cannot agree with this Congressman who wrote these words out of paranoia .

  77. Samantha Says:

If he wants a wake-up call, then his wake-up call should be a mission to fight tooth and nail for the separation of religion and state, to keep religion out of the public schools, jails, and courthouses.

When you are part of the monopoly religion (christianity) all those things seem like good ideas, but introduce another religion and it all blows up in your face.

Keep america secular and you won’t have any problems. If you put the 10 commandments in your office, then expect a populous muslim constituancy to demand quotes from the koran up there too. You can’t have your cake and eat it too.

  78. Eric Says:

    Bowdler,

Yeah, pagan is kind of pejorative, but it is used in an academic sense to refer to the pre-Judeo-Christian religions.

Religion was designed by the ruling class to take power from the people. Religion makes you stupid. The pagans were smarter and knew more than we do today, thanks to the dumbing down of religion.

Don’t look at the sky John, God is up there. Don’t look at the stars John, the Holy Ghost is about to descend. SO John learns to never even think about the sky or the stars except in terms of some hateful God and scary Ghost.

The pagans knew the stars, knew about nature. Now thanks to religion, we know nothing. Except how to kill. We know how to build weapons to do that.

The root of evil is the denial of the truth. Just ask Asswipe Vachette.

  80. Bluestocking Says:

Just where did Goode’s relatives emigrate to this country from, one is inclined to wonder? And were they welcomed with open arms when they got here? I know one thing for certain — if any of his family came here from Ireland, the answer to that question is a resounding NO…

  81. RUCerious Says:

It’s too bad Ansheil had a great falling away of its mind.
To replace reason with blind belief in an ancient mythology is just plain sad.

  82. Andrew Maitres Says:

    Answeil,

You my sir/madam, are an idiot. I am fifteen years old, and I believe that I have better ideals, morals, and intelligence than you. You said the following:

“I will prefer his protection policy over yours anytime.Yours is come one come all, we know you wouldn`t harm a fly.It is strong leaders like Virgil Goode and George Bush who are keeping this “country from being overrun by Islam.”

Overrun by Islam? What are you talking about? You are the most terrible person I know, there is nothing wrong with Islam, it is (I believe) relativly the same thing as christianity. Are you also afraid of christianity, judaism, hinduism, that they might overrun America? Next you said the following in response to post number 20,

“I am going to report you for your UnAmerican letter to Virgil Goode. This is totally beyond the pale and makes me question your patriotism.Read my post numbered nineteen.
Do you see how unpatriotic your letter is?”

You want to report him for being ‘UnAmerican [sic]’ and you want to question his patriotism? Patriotism is nothing but stupid bravado in your case, and I am anything but proud that you are in our (the people of america, legal, or ‘illegal’) country, you should be shot and killed. you are an ignorant bigotted fool, what about accepting persons of any race, color, or religion? I question your intelligence, not only because of your bigotted racist views, but also because of your terrible grammar. Before that though, you said:

“The greatest threat to our standard of living is the Muslims in the world.”

That might be the most idiotic, unintelligent, moronoic statement I’ve ever heard (it’s just as moronic as my sentence is redundant.) The greatest threat to our living is not Muslim people. It is people like you. People that are raised to believe this racist bigotted crap that you spew from your mouth. I hope you never have children so that one less bigotted moron is gone in this world when you finally keel over and die, buried by the state.

Have you ever considered there are things more dangerous to our way of living, such as anthrax, smallpox, nuclear weapons or war, or you? In fact, I may, with Elvis’s (or without in case he never returns) permission, copy his letter and send it to this bigotted congressman. I might as well send him your responses to Elvis’s letter, and and my own response to you, I think I shall. If I ever receive a response from the congressman, i’ll be short to post it here.

If you respond to me, there is a large chance I wont respond back. I once read a quote that explains perfectly why I most likely will not respond to you. Although I do not remember the exact words, it went something like this, ‘Ignorance is curable, stupidity is terminal.’ You ‘Answeil Vachette’ whoever you are, are both ignorant and stupid. You are a lost cause, and I hope for your own well being that you hold close your fellow klan members, lest they push you aside for your stupidity.

    - Andrew Maitres

  83. Eric Says:

    ChildrenofLir,

There are any number of primitive religions that could have been classified as pagans, and many of them knew little more than fighting. Religion is not crap - for some, it provides the only moral compass they can understand. The problem is that it is easily abused, because it touches something that is deeply fundamental to the human psyche. This country needs to destroy the misconception that religion and science are incompatible, and embrace the good qualities of both.

  84. ChildrenofLir Says:

Reason/belief - two sides of the same coin

Modern man knows nothing but thinks he knows everything. As a result you have minds like Asswipe Vachette.

  85. Answeil Vachette Says:

I asked Ray about the forced conversion passage in the Koran, and he replied, it’s like history. It’s not a command to be practiced today.

    My response:

    RUCerious ,

It is okay. For in the end days, when you are to be slaughtered, worry not,for the Lord will find the words for you, thus you will be spared.God loves you.You speak of the Bible as a mere old time history book. The Book of God.An old worn out fantasy written by zealots thirsting for power. The sacred words in which God Himself spoke,a mere Book,to be cast away as trash. In the end days, every man woman and child of conscionable age shall have a choice to make.Follow the staus quo and be a sinner, falsely comfortable that all religion is but a myth or come to God and accept him, confess your sins, and have eternal life.To all nonbelievers I issue you this challenge.Speak to a man of the cloth, confess your sins and accept God as your Lord and Savior. What have you got to lose? Are you afraid that it may actually work? That would make your god wrong and the true God right wouldn`t it?Prove the Lord wrong if you dare.Just go confess your sins and truly ask for His forgiveness or He will will be able to see right through your false testing of Him.Then you would really be in trouble.Go with an open mind to change.God really does work miracles.I will pray for all nonbelievers.Amen.

  86. Bowdler Says:

Answeil, you never said if you actually believe… oh let me pick one… God turned that one guys wife into a pillar of salt over by gamorha. And if so that would seem to conflict with your idea of a loving forgiving god. Of course anyone can change. God used to be such a mean vengeful and unforgiving god during the old testement, but with the advent of jc all of the sudden he is a kind, loving benevolent god.

  90. codepiranha dot org - Congressman fears a Muslim invasion Says:

[…] The Charlottesville Weekly of Charlottesville, Virginia recently got their hands on a letter written by US Congressman Virgil Goode who represents Virginia’s 5th district regarding his fears of a growing Muslim population in the United States. Read the whole thing below: “Congress of the United States House of Representatives Washington, DC 20515-4605 December 7, 2006 Mr. John Cruickshank [Address withheld] [Address withheld] Dear Mr. Cruickshank: Thank you for your recent communication. When I raise my hand to take the oath on Swearing In Day, I will have the Bible in my other hand. I do not subscribe to using the Koran in any way. The Muslim Representative from Minnesota was elected by the voters of that district and if American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran. We need to stop illegal immigration totally and reduce legal immigration and end the diversity visas policy pushed hard by President Clinton and allowing many persons from the Middle East to come to this country. I fear that in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United States of America and to prevent our resources from being swamped. The Ten Commandments and ‘In God We Trust’ are on the wall in my office. A Muslim student came by the office and asked why I did not have anything on my wall about the Koran. My response was clear, ‘As long as I have the honor of representing the citizens of the 5th District of Virginia in the United States House of Representatives, The Koran is not going to be on the wall of my office.’ Thank you again for your email and thoughts. Sincerely yours, Virgil H. Goode, Jr. 70 East Court Street Suite 215 Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151″ [1] You can contact Mr. Goode here. 92. Hakim Says:

Goode’s bigoted views are no secret, and he uses them to justify more than his hardline immigration policy.

Well if that were the position of a politician and he were to be popularly elected by his constituents then would the opinion then in his district be the same?

  94. Answeil Vachette Says:

    My response:

Of course I believe. That is why i am praying for you and your salvation.Who could ask for a better friend?I am not rich.I am actually poor. But I have all I need. The Good Lord sees to my needs.I will pray for your soul my son. There will be many false prophets come to you in the end times,be not decieved, for the devil is shrewd, wrapping up evil with what he calls life.If you refuse to believe Bowdler, you are just another walkon on the set that is Armageddon. Not one of the stars.
I will pray for your soul my son.

  97. chichi Says:

WTF? Deep inside me, there is no damn GOD thing. We are able to do human-cloning. It proves GOD is a hoax. I kind of like Buddhism. It is a non-theistic religion, a philosophy, and a life-enhancing system of psychology. Everyone able to become “GOD” or budda if studying and practicing the Budda’s way.

  101. the fly-man Says:

Here is the point I’d like to reiterate, ROVA the rest of VA as it is commonly referred to is besieged by a huge influx of LATINO immigrants, not MUSLIM. The tactic that MR. Goode has employed to placate his constituents, which he has a responsibility to, they elected him, is to use the Muslim straw-man to distract attention away from his constituents main fear which is the Latino influx. Plain and simple, blame Clinton, blame feminists, blame gays, just pick a group, the result is still the same, blame an outside group and their foreign Gods as a reason not to accept a different culture. As someone else said above, FEAR, FEAR, FEAR and the fact of the matter is they have been called on it and don’t have the balls just to admit that they are hateful and THEIR god is not. They will square that one later, but for now they are purely, blindly hateful. I accept they have a right to elect anyone who they wish, MR. Goode is just their elected representative, but they should not be ashamed or have to use religious smoke screens to hide their own contempt for people exercising their rights as visitors or real citizens in OUR country. The Talmud says if you have a mouse it’s the hole’s fault and they are just as responsible for the hole as any one. From the lack of response to my question they would not like to reinforce another saying, It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool then to open it and remove all doubt.

Chichi, I’ve got a sister that claims to be a budhist. Shes always chanting something like “nyom ryong ringy hooooooo”. But you know what? Once she feels comfortable talking about it, she would like to impose her views on others. Just like every other religion.

  104. Eric Says:

#103 - you’re talking about a very particular sect of buddhism known as nichiren buddhism, that does heavily advocate evangelism. It originated in japan, and the Nichiren group known as SGI is highly controversial. Understand that buddhism is not one religion, but comprised of hundreds of sects - each with quite substantially differing philosophies.

And all of this coming from free spirits who deny the Holocaust existed.Because to do that, you would have to believe in God.Who is the bigot now I ask?

    Comment by Answeil Vachette

You sir, are a bigot. Islam is not the same as the radicals who kill in its name. Just like Christianity is not the same as the radicals LIKE YOU, SIR, who want to commit genocide. Just like Israel is not the same a Judaism. To top it all of, you obviously don’t realize that those three religions, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are the THREE SEMITIC RELIGIONS. To be an anti-Semite you must be anti-Jewish, anti-Christian, AND anti-Islam. Do you study anything on your own, or just listen to the foolish talking points of cowards like Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh? You are saying that ALL Muslims are like the radicals who are using guerilla tactics? So all Christians are like the thoroughly evil men who used the Inquisition to maintain control over their populace? No, they are not. Generalizations like yours are the sign of a small mind indeed.

Go study our founding fathers. You are wrong. W.R.O.N.G. Most of our founding fathers, as others have pointed out, were Deists. They believed that God is greater than we can possibly know, and that the universe itself is God. God is everything, and our relationship with Deity is a PERSONAL ONE.

Many of the founding fathers, most notably Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson believed that while religion is not evil, ORGANIZED religion, especially STATE-SPONSORED ORGANIZED religion is EVIL. E.V.I.L. Because such an organization corrupts the relationship between Man and Deity. When Man must turn to Man to hear what Deity wants, well, they’ve given up their connection in many ways to that Deity. Jefferson said he liked every word that Jesus has been attributed as saying…and that it is too ba the rest of the Bible ruins the message with its corrupting, outdated and archaic influence that goes contrary to Enlightement, Reason, and all that has made our modern world the PEACEFUL place it is today. It may seem violent because of mass media, but modern times is, compared to the rest of human history, the most peaceful the Earth has ever been in terms on Mankinds relationship with itself.

And who here said the Holocaust wasn’t real, anyhow? Pull completely unrelated “points” out of your ass much? The Holocaust was real. It was NOT, NOT, NOT all about the Jewish people, however. Jews got the worst of it, certainly, but slaves, dissenters, and homosexuals were ALL slaughtered wholesale by evil, CHRISTIAN men like Hitler.

Grow some independant thought. This country was founded on freedom, on OPEN DISSENT BEING LEGAL AND ENCOURAGED, and on a strong foundation of a separation of church and state. Which, incidentally, protects both the CHURCH and the STATE.

    Ignorance must be such bliss.

  107. Bowdler Says:

101 Answeil: I know this evil conniving bitch that is a christian. She always says: “I pray for your soul on judgement day.” I take it as she’s just all giddy about seeing me burn in hell. And lets face it the concept of hell is: if you don’t agree with me you are subject to an eternity of torture. That is ill will times infinity. And really, you believe the earth was formed in seven days?

#103 Unfortunately, today most of buddhists get wrong about the the Buddha’s teaching. Chanting something like “nyom ryong ringy …” to help you aren’t distracted by other thinking to free your mind. Actually, you able replace “nyom ryong …” thing with “1,2,3 …” (but chanting mean less words more help because you even don’t focus what you’re saying).

  110. Answeil Vachette Says:

Billy Kristol is on the Daily Show right now. I sure liked him better when he was on Soap.

  113. Moderation Says:

Hah, Bowdler, right on. The Earth was created in seven days? Really? Not according to the Bible. See, people like you, Answeil Vachette, don’t actually study the religion you put all of your faith into. If you did, you’d know that the word that is mistranslated as “day” in modern Bibles does not say “day” in the original tongue. The word mistranslated as “day” is a generic word meaning “period of time”, which can more properly be translated as “Age” or “Epoch”.

In the same way that the Bible does not say, “Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live”, it says, “You shall not suffer a POISONER to live.” Just like Moses didn’t like 900 YEARS, he lived 900 lunar cycles (or months, if you will). Just like Adam and Eve are not said to be the first people, they are said to be the first People. That is to say, the first two members of The Chosen People. The Bible fully acknowledges that there were other people living beyond the Garden of Eden, who were of other tribes, and therefore not of The Chosen People. The laws of Judaism (and thus, of Christianity) are only meant to apply to The People, not all peoples.

Studying is hard, I know. But it is f***ing pathetic just how LITTLE so-called “devout” people know about their own religion. Agnosticism is so much more difficult, but so much more rewarding and logical. I have no idea if Deity exists, and noone, anywhere has EVER presented any actual evidence that Deity exists, merely their own word that Deity exists (much less has an active role in the day-to-day operations of our universe). Ever. In all of human history. All 150,000-200,000 years of Homo Sapien Sapien’s existence. The word of men living 2,000+ years ago is not evidence, it is mythology.

  114. Answeil Vacherette (R) Va. Says:

  115. chimpeach Says:

I don’t know why we need to break it down only as far as “Christian” vs. “Muslim”. I’m what is referred to as a ‘lapsed’ Catholic, but I’m starting to have serious thoughts about becoming active again. And, if I do become an active church-going Catholic again, I’ll be a member of the largest Christian denomination in the country. You know what that means? All you puny little minority Christian denominations had better watch out. I’m not worried about the Muslims or Jews. I’m going after the Baptists, who only have about a third the membership that Catholics have. I notice that Goode’s a Baptist. I think he’s going to get a little taste of majority rule. I’m also going after anyone who calls themselves “born again”. As far as I’m concerned, born-agains are heretics. And that’s not a danger from afar. That’s a danger from within.

I’m putting the quasi-Christian megachurches on notice right now. You’d better affiliate yourselves with a real denomination, and a major one at that, or I’m going to take you down. Most of them are way too political to be enjoying tax-exempt staus, anyway.

It’s majority rule for everything now. If you don’t belong to the biggest Christian denomination in the country, you’d better get used to not having your own way. We’re going to strip search Baptists like Goode at the airports, and we’re going to raid the megachurches and confiscate their assets.

By the way, Alswein…er…Answeil, what church do you go to?

  117. Moderation Says:

That is what I’m talking about right there, in post 115, sir. You don’t study anything. The Bible does NOT say homosexuality is a sin. STUDY. Seriously. The Bible says that anything sexual done out of wedlock is a sin, as is adultery. Soddom and Gammorah was not punished in any way shape or form because of homosexuality, it was the lustful, lewd behavior in general. Homosexuality is not in fact named at all in the Bible except for some passages relating to, I believe, one of the Churches of Jerusalem (the Second, I think). They had an outbreak of red tide, and it killed most of their population. So they outlawed homosexuality IN THAT REGION, and required by law that all men and women of age GET MARRIED, and that noone was allowed to EAT SHELLFISH, so that they could recover their population. No other reason whatsoever. It was a matter of practicality: breed and contribute to the tribe, or be stoned to death.

And killing slaves is OK? So, a group of people have their villages/cities destroyed, their families murdered, and all of their rights taken away, are forced to do labor for the murderous bastards who did that to them, and it is the SLAVES fault? What a troll you are.

  118. chichi Says:

Putting people on notice and your furthermores. If it makes you feel better I guess.God Almighty Himself will strike you down cold if you try to do anything of the sort. How can you say such a thing about the church.Just because this president decided to align himself with the religous right does not mean all christians are that way.

Catholics make up 25% of the world`s Christian population. You`ve got a couple thousand years of precedent to fight. You better get started right away. Why would you want that to happen?Other than try to fight and stampout Christianity, why not just accept what you cannot change.Or stand aside. Chimpeach, why would it matter to you what denomination I belong to?I am Christian and that is enough.Don`t turn this into a faction battle. You are no better than a mullah yourself if you do that.

  120. Bowdler Says:

Answeil you have proven yourself to be nuts. Moderation: I am agnostic. I just like to slay the dragon at the neck (it is a logical aproach to argument). I would like to point out one group of people that were slaughtered by WW2 germany were the gypsys. You may also note that the gypsys were a common villian in european literature. “The Hunchback Of Notre Dame” comes to mind. Any idea that requires the death of others is flawed.

I just think it’s facinating how some people can be so comfortable with their bigotry. If they didn’t think they could get away with it, they’d keep it to themselves. But, when they look at the numbers and see that their scapegoats aren’t that large a group and probably won’t be able to get back at them, they just let the epithets fly.

Answeil, bigots like you should be herded onto freight cars and sent off to labor camps far far away. That would be a temporary solution to the problem of excessive hatred and stupidity in our country. I still haven’t come up with a final solution.

  125. Moderation Says:

Bowdler, yes, it certainly is a logical way to crush the fundamentalists and other overzealous whackjobs.

How could I forget the gypsies? :( They were wronged greatly, and, like the Jews, have been (wrongfully) villainized for a long time.

Answeil, don’t insult me. Hell no, I’m not Christian. I’ve studied too much religion to believe that ANY of them have gotten it right. You do know that Allah is the same God as Abraham’s God, right? That is what MAKES those three religions the Semitic religions: they all believe that the God of Abraham is the one true God. So you worship the EXACT SAME DEITY that the Muslims do, and the Jews. Silly bigot.

Are you crazy?Christianity is THE religion of the United States.Get used to it.Talking of taking this down taking that down. You are swimming in your own sinful visions.I will pray for you.

Christianity is not a religion. Catholicism is a religion. I doubt that whatever strange form of Christianity you belong to is actually a religion. Get used to THAT. And, don’t pray for me. Your prayers are meaningless. Prayers from a hateful bigot like you are an abomination in the eyes of the Lord.

So, you’re not a Catholic? Too bad. Convert or you’re going down.

Virgil Goode is not a real Christian. He is one of those southern whites who worship their white skin color..akin to paganism.

    Yo Answeil,

I’m saving you a seat in hell — right next to me in the TP section.
    You bring the marshmallows.

  132. chimpeach Says:

    Answeil,
Go read the parable of the Good Samaritan. If you need help understanding it, please let us know. But, if you understood the meaning of it, you would understand that the title could just as well be the Good Muslim, the Good Catholic, the Good Mormon, or any number of other Goods (except Virgil).

There’s nothing Christian about your bigotry. You’re a fraud.

You’re a sorry excuse for a Catholic. You should be excommunicated.

  135. Moderation Says:

Answeil, yes, it does say that men laid with men. Yet nowhere does it cite that as a reason for the cities’ destruction. The vast majority of the Rabbis and other scholars of the texts have come to the conclusion that those passages point, very distinctly, to the GREED and CORRUPTION of the men of Sodom and Gamorrah that led to the destruction of those cities. They tortured and raped and commited grave economic crimes against one another and outsiders. THIS is what the Bible says they were punished for, not homosexuality, not for sleeping with children, not for murder, not for any of those things. David had homosexual trysts, yet was one of God’s most favored of men, and there are other examples of homosexuality that were not called abomination (in other words, not worthy of DEATH), including lesbian relationships.

You are using the Bible to define reality, rather than allowing reality to define reality. You are TRUSTING the words of MEN who SAY they were told by God what to write, rather than the painfully researched and meticulously documented data that can be REPEATED over and over again that proves that evolution, physics, and all of the other wonders our brains have let us decipher about reality thanks to the Scientific Method and Logic.

There are so many mistranslations, that the books you read today are NOT the books that were actually written. If I wrote a book, gave it to a friend to translate it into French, then gave it to someone else to translate from French to Japanese, then, finally, translated it back into English with a fourth party, and told you this final work was the Word of God, would you believe me? You are a brainwashed person who is stifling your own existance, and you are going to be horribly disappointed in death, methinks. If your God exists, from the way you speak, you do not even follow his teachings, and are surely doomed to an eternity in Hell. You are forsaking living your life TODAY in HOPES that there is a HEAVEN that some guys SAID exists, and said so 145,000-195,000 years AFTER mankind appeared on this stunningly beautiful planet we call home.

    Moderation,

You are wrong.Men with men, greed and corruption, incest, falling away from the Church, they all played a role in the destruction of sodom.

The vast majority of the Rabbis and other scholars of the texts have

I would like a list of these scholars please. And the rabbis too.
These new age bible writers. The bible is so tainted with new age ideas and interpretations no wonder no one knows what it means anymore. You need to read a Bible printed before 1979.The rest are so out of whack with any denomination and so out of theme with the meaning. The cause?New age not so religous folks getting their hands on it and slowly rewriting it subtly to gain their meaning in the end.It is not your fault. The Bible you cite is not correct.Does the (R) behind my name impede you from having a true debate?

I have alot of faith in Mr. Reid.He will vote to keep this war going so we can stamp out terrorism and the Muslims. They are threatening Christianity. This will not stand. When the Roman Catholic Church tell any nation to go to war, they go to war.Nations have no choice in the Vatican`s decisions. They all obey the Vatican.Even the United States of America. Our Vatican is the most powerful govt.and the most powerful banking establishment in the world. You cannot change this. Therefore you must come on board to be spared from noncompliance with the Lord our God.You have no real choice. Not at the end of the day. It`s God Almighty or nothing.

  141. Answeil Vacherette Says:

Please do not let the muslims gain a foothold in America. It leads to all kinds of communications between them which invariably leads to thoughts of Allah which eventually leads to sleeper cells which eventually leads up to terrorists which eventually leads to bombings which eventually leads to killings. This viscous cycle of Islam and Islamists coming to America must stop now.You let them get setup, and before you know it they are like rabbits or mice, they are everywhere speaking that foreign lingo like no one knows what they are thinking. When we actually do know exactly what they are thinking. They go into a trance and then start murmuring Allah`s name and before you know it that demon spirit has taken ahold of the boy and twisted his soul up in black sashcloth trying to eat it alive for all eternity. This is why muslims and the muslim faith must be stamped out on a worldwide basis.I am all for congressman and senators to keep us safe from the roving bands.Muslims are trying to gain a foothold onto christian ideals and territories. We will not stand for this.I have alot of faith in Mr.
