Media More Interested In Laura Bush’s Skin Condition Than Iraq

laurabushiraq.jpg

During today’s press briefing, the media devoted most of its attention to the skin cancer tumor First Lady Laura Bush recently had removed. Reporters were critical of Mrs. Bush’s decision to not publicize her condition initially, asking Press Secretary Tony Snow why she “didn’t feel any obligation as a person of public status to talk about this” and arguing that she should now become an advocate for preventative care against skin cancer.

In fact, the White House press corps asked more questions about Laura Bush’s skin condition than they did about any other issue:

22: Number of questions on Laura Bush’s skin cancer.
18: Number of questions on Iraq.
3: Number of questions on Iran.
1: Number of questions on North Korea.

Highlights of reporters’ questions from the briefing:

Q Tony, can you tell us about Mrs. Bush’s skin cancer? How is she doing? And how was the decision reached not to disclose this publicly until questions were asked?

Q She is often an advocate for women’s health in the area of breast cancer or heart disease, advocating screenings, preventative care. Is she likely to talk about skin cancer in that way?

Q And she didn’t feel any obligation as a person of public status to talk about this?

Q Going back to Mrs. Bush, it seems that there are two things going on, in terms of not informing the public and the press. Which was it, was it that it was medical privacy that was the reason for not informing us, or was it that it was no big deal?

Mrs. Bush’s decision not to reveal the details of her skin condition is hardly a matter worthy of intense public scrutiny, especially when there are so many issues of real significance that the media could be covering.

Don’t you think the press corp is just tired of getting the same empty drivel for answers to the serious questions? Not that I agree with their lack of deligence, but reprorter burn out is a winning strategy for the White House isn’t it?

  3. wingnutt says:

if you think this is some big story – the fact that the press asked a few more questions about the first lady’s possible cancer than iraq (which we hear about the other 99% of the time) – you’re more delusional than anyone thought.

and shame on you Rebel In CA and Uncle_Ho, I doubt you would be so cruel if it was your mother/sister/daughter/aunt/etc.

I understand the publicity – because really, skin cancer is something that is an actual risk and threat to people’s lives, unlike the irrational “war of terror”.

What is also interesting is how many times today did they mention Osama?

I’m more interested in what the odds are that somebody could run a stop sign and then crash into a car and kill the driver and the driver who has died just happened to break up with the person who was driving the car that crashed into them. Astronomical odds, I would say. Laura Bush is a murderer.

  7. Ekim says:

The kind of skin cancer she had is not an actual risk or threat to people’s lives. It is localized and once removed gone forever. The scary kind of skin cancer is melanoma which can spread to other places but hers was not melanoma. I’ve had several removed. It’s not much different from having a wart removed and doesn’t deserve much if any concern at all.

  8. Uncle_Ho says:

Wingnut, I suppose you think killing and maiming thousands of innocents in Iraq is not cruel. What Bushitler and his sycophants are doing are crimes against humanity and crimes against peace. They should be hung for the war criminals they are. If not that, I have no qualms about their demise from “natural causes”.

The level of UV light today is higher than it was 50 or 100 years ago. This is due to a reduction of ozone in the earth’s atmosphere (the Ozone Hole). Ozone serves as a filter to screen out and reduce the amount of UV light that we are exposed to. With less atmospheric ozone, a higher level of UV light reaches the earth’s surface.

Will Laura support the Kyoto Protocol? Or will she play the stepford wife yet again and support all her husband’s positions?

I would suspect that the number of skin cancers removed from people in the United States daily far exceeds the number of US Service men and women killed in the Bush League Wars in the last four years. What is so important about one minor tumor on one extremely minor individual to cause such an uproar? (I have had six melanomas and one colon cancer removed without MSM news coverage, or anesthesia if you consider they produce the same result) Maybe the MSM are just practicing their technique in anticipation of the modern day “The Perils of Pauline” serial which will be the daily episodes of “The Goosings of Georgie” or “The Diddlings of DUHbya” from the Federal Pen in Leavenworth.

Laura Bush is a fake and an asshole. Her lifted face (and false smile) is not attracitve, convincing, or uplifting. She represents women – a woman playing the subordinate to a man ( in fact she’s a sly one……….and not at al a prude, or deferential)–she represents the view that women should always smile and cannot be human, she is not a thinkier, and she is all about appearance, and franky…….she makes me sick. She represents A LOT of what is wrong with our culture. We, the American people, are reaping what we have sown. That is: A shallow, arrogant, deadened, and destructive culture.

I think that if it alerts people to the reality of skin cancer then it is indeed worthy of news.

A friend of mine was a nurse who specifically worked for a skin cancer unit. She said that skin cancer is an increasing problem. So, I think any media coverage of it is a positive for those who might have the lethal kinds (which they themselves cannot differentiate between or diagnose).

We shouldn’t pick on Laura as she is obviously retarded. She has to be dumber than DUBbya. Just look at who they chose to marry. However, giving Laura credit, the extortion applied by Senior Bitch Bush may have had some bearing on Laura’s choice.

“None of the Bush family could cover for Laura in 1963 as her and GWB did not even know each other.”

    Make up your mind Friend!

I can decipher your tergiversation of trivia to your detriment. It may be true that GWB (Gail Whitney Bronkowski, who was a chamber maid for Senior Bitch Bush (SBB)) or George W(DUHbya). Bush did not know Laura (in the Biblical sense) at the time but the SBB knew her by your own admission and it is to the SBB that I had reference when I assigned the phone call that you claim the records of same have been eradicated.

Perhaps she was offended because I was just kidding. After all, I have mentioned on these boards that I wear a kilt. And you know what they say about a woman scorned. I mean, to take what I wrote and somehow twist that into insinuating that I, a married man, was interested in having an adulterous affair with someone who lives a couple of thousand miles away takes either dimentia, a great imagination, or wishful thinking.
