The Iraq war will cost more in 2007

By Amanda Terkel on Dec 20th, 2006 at 11:23 am

The Iraq war will cost more in 2007

than the $110 billion the Bush administration had forecast, according to the head of the White House budget office. Since the 9/11 attacks, Congress has appropriated more than $500 billion “for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as for terrorism-related operations elsewhere.”

As Bill Crystal said to Juan Williams recently – is the goal good only if you can do it quickly and cheaply, or is it a good goal?

We are trying to contain Islamo-fascism, just as we contained communism – and we all know how expensive the Cold War was.

Dollar dropped in Iran asset move ( BBC REPORT this time )

Iran is to shift its foreign currency reserves from dollars to euros and use the euro for oil deals in response to US-led pressure on its economy.
In a widely expected move, Tehran said it would use the euro for all future commercial transactions overseas.

Well done everyday the Euro gets stronger — We have started and charity for North America

Tell me you really believe that?? I thought that talking point was already replaced, or didn’t you get the memo?

  9. BearCountry says:

Since this money is always emergency appropriations it doesn’t count against the budget. If it doesn’t count against the budget it doesn’t add to the deficit. Therefore our occupation of Iraq is funded by free money. Haliburton, et al get to pocket the money and we the public don’t lose anything. That wasn’t so hard to follow was it. I mean, all you libs just don’t understand bookkeeping. Besides, us being in Iraq and Afghanistan was not intended to be long term, so even though there is no plan to leave either country, it is an emergency from month to month and year to year.

  12. Democrat Soldier says:

#5 – Mr. Hendler, we didn’t “contain” communism. We out-spent it!

In the case if China, we simply imported capitalsim and we’re letting that do the work of bringing down “the machine” for us. Could you imagine China allwing any foreign companies into their country 30 years ago? Now the foreign companies are outperforming the “state” businesses.

The problem is that the US has been running up the national credit card for the past 40 years and the only point in which a “surplus budget” came into being was when a Democrat ran the White House, and the Republicans ran the House & Senate. Once the Republicans ran all three, we had the highest deficit in the world, and the highest debt in the world with NO attempt at paying off our debts.

Now, as someone who’s big on economics, how long can we continue to run up the national credit-card before we begin to fall apart financially? Should we continue to increase our outlays while we continue to decrease our intakes?

The federal tax dollars stopped becoming “your tax dollars” when the debt reached higher than our annual budgets. You wouldn’t run a company the way the US is running itself.

How much have you idiot Brits spent? Our nation’s leader looks like an idiot, sounds like an idiot, and acts like an idiot. He’s consistent. Your leader looks good, sounds even better, and still acts like an idiot. You Brits are pathetic.

This is off of this thread – House Armed Services Chairman ‘Extremely Concerned’ With Iraq Escalation Plans -Dec. 18 ,2006

Available in older posts section for free and at absolutely no charge. You have to read the whole thread to appreciate it.It`s a real gem.

Not so fast;I have one thing I’d like to add to this discussion.

Atleast twice in the last 50 posts, unbelievable said that she ‘doesn’t lie’.
Yet she told me,thus everyone else on this blog, last spring, that her Mother was dead. This turned out NOT to be TRUE.
Now answer your own question: What kind of person would say that about their own Mother just for the sake of winning an argument?
Now you all are beginning to see why I’ve had such acrimony with her in the past.

Just for the record,BnF, I never, ever, insulted her Mother, that’s if you were referring to something I might have said.
She told me her Mom was dead after I said she probably lives at home with her Mom.
All this can be found in the archives.
This is who you are dealing with, and she has no respect.

    Trueblue,

Of course, Unbelievable is offended by any remark about sexuality:

    Men’s peak is 17, and women’s is 40. I’m guessing I’m closer to 40 than you are to 17? :)

    Comment by unbelievable — April 17, 2006 @ 4:03 pm

    and:

I think it’s a plot by women in their 40’s so they can get 17 year old men :)

    Comment by Tundra — April 17, 2006 @ 4:19 pm

I assure you, that’s mostly a guy fanatasy. As men age they get better in other ways. :)

    Comment by unbelievable — April 17, 2006 @ 4:29 pm

    and this:

If a course is called “Shaving your legs” there is no reason to discuss how to braid leghair (That’s for unbelievable)

    finally capped of by this:

If I were asked for a one line answer to the question “What makes a woman good in bed?” I would say, “A man who is good in bed.”

    - – Bob Guccione (1978)

    and the email Unbelievable misquotes?

“If I were asked for a one line answer to the question “What makes a woman good in bed?” I would say, “A man who is good in bed.”
    - – Bob Guccione (1978)
    Comment by unbelievable ”

amen to that!!! (care to put the hypothesis to a test? —just kidding…)

Perhaps it is Unbelievable who is envious of my spirituality. She has derided the thought of breathing a cloud away, yet I’ve taught others to do so as well.

Perhaps she was offended because I was just kidding. After all, I have mentioned on these boards that I wear a kilt. And you know what they say about a woman scorned. I mean, to take what I wrote and somehow twist that into insinuating that I, a married man, was interested in having an adulterous affair with someone who lives a couple of thousand miles away takes either dimentia, a great imagination, or wishful thinking.

And Trueblue, as you can see, a shaman would say “Amen.”

There’s another word, a greeting, I say to you:

    Namaste.

  31. Jay Randal says:

Baker’s Iraq Study Group Report claims the occupation of Iraq funding will surpass 2 trillion or more eventually, so Bush could care less about bankrupting this nation, as long as his dad’s cronies get the money!

  32. Jason M. Hendler says:

I don’t think capitalism will work against Islamic-fascism, as it did against the USSR and China. Only force and the will of God / Allah will prevail.

  33. Briseadh na Faire says:

Remember, thus far ALL the costs for Bush’s Wars have been off-budget.

It reminds me of Enron accounting, where they would create a subsidiary and transfer huge amounts of debt to it, showing record profits to the main company.

Only here, the main company, the Federal budget, is also showing record deficits.

I agree with the statement above. The costs in 2007 for Bush’s Wars can be reduced dramatically if Congress so chooses.

  34. Jason M. Hendler says:

    #33, Bris,

There are too many Blue Dog Dems to let something like that happen, no matter what Pelosi tries to do …

… and if she tries, that is the end of the Dem majority ….

  35. upside00 says:

    #34

And why would that be? You don’t think there are enough Dems w/balls to strike back at Chickenhawk Dubya and the Neocon Mafia?

  36. RUCerious says:

force and the will of God / Allah will prevail.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God” (Matthew 5:9)”.

Hendler, why do you hate the Bible?

  37. upside00 says:

Hendler doesn’t hate the bible, he just reads the parts that he likes.

And is just another bigot, like his heroes, Tommy “Miami-is-a-third-world” Tancredo, Georgie Boy Allen and Virg Goode ol’ Boy.

#16 – rightards can’t comprehend numbers that big, or how long their descendants will have to pay. they think “the lord” will replenish our coffers, and that $4.99 for a new, Chinese AM radio is a mighty sweet deal for a magical device that delivers to them the wisdom of the ages through snake-handlers, tongue-talkers, and Sean “the snake” Hannity’s snake-oil.
