“Stability in Iraq ultimately depends on spreading the message of Jesus Christ, the message of peace on earth, good will towards men. Everything depends on everyone learning about the birth of the Savior.” (Via Atrios)
Ah Yes, Onward Christian Soldiers!! And the wingbats on the right wonder why Muslims hate us like they do. Injecting religion into the equation has always beed a surefire way to court disaster.
Learning about the birth of the Savior didn’t stop catholics and protestants from blowing eachother up in Northern Ireland. It certainly didn’t stop the religious people of Germany from hearding Jews, Gypsies and Poles into ovens.
I don’t see the people of Iraq being very receptive to the gospel of Christ. There was that whole crusade thing, the middle east is still smarting over.
Why oh why are the people of the middle east so pissed at us? could it be numskulls like Hayes mouthing off like this and making it sound like another crusade? again, if anything is aiding and abetting the enemy, it is talk like that.
I read the quote to him, which of course he had no prior knowledge of, and I asked him if the Congressman knew what religion the majority of Iraqis practiced.
Eric said, “I think he knows!?!”
I said, “Today, when I hear about troop casualties in Iraq, I will think about your boss and how pitifully stupid he is.”
I think you should all call him at (704) 786-1612.
Quit using my faith to promote violence and intolerance!
This religious jingoism is a seriously major part of the underlying justification for our actions in the Middle East that have not caused, but certainly exacerbated tensions there. When these fake Christian politicians start voting for “peace on earth, good will toward men” in the capacity of their own jobs perhaps we’ll see our relationships with other nations improve. When they stop trying to use the force of a superpower to advance their religious zealotry, perhaps people of other faiths will be less threatened by the U.S. and less inclined to fight the sword with the sword.
“Everything depends on everyone learning about the birth of the savior…”
Well, he got that part right.
Also to include everyone learning about:
The life of Jesus of Nazareth..
his execution, and the real reasons for it…
and, last but not least, the 2,000 years of manipulation, deceit, fabrication, torture, murder, thievery, and general warfare promulgated by the church which men erected in Jesus’ name.
Poor dude must be rolling in his grave long about now.
“Stability in Iraq ultimately depends on spreading the message of Jesus Christ, the message of peace on earth, good will towards men. Everything depends on everyone learning about the birth of the Savior.â€
Why yes, 600,000 innocent civilians killed, and the rest force fed the peace of Jesus, which will lead to stability BULSHEVIK!!!
Sorry Robin, but my learning of Jesus does not involve the slaughter of innocents. EVER!
The most ironic part of what Hayes said is that if the United States had actually been abiding by the teachings of the mythical Jesus Christ, we wouldn’t have gotten into this mess in the first place. Damn, I’m glad I’m an atheist. I sleep better each night knowing that.
Peace on Earth, goodwill toward man….while we shoot some depleted uranium up your daughters ass and shoot some white phosphorus into your grandma’s house. A little waterboarding for your cousin and some stress positions for you and your wife.
There is no doubt that the congressman believes what he said. Many folks like him think that the world is black and white and that there are simple solutions to even the most complex of problems, that once implemented, will remove the problem like flicking a light switch will remove darkness.
Witness their belief that posting the ten commandments would instantly remove violence in schools.
must be a really stupid country if someone elected would say something like this without being charged with a crime.
am afraid carlos mencia is right. put a de with another de and you get de de de.
In a thread below on the moronic congressman from VA, the trolls and right wing wackjobs are screaming ‘the muslims are coming!’ and that they’re trying to take over so they can cram their beliefs down our throats. These same pinheads will no doubt be showing up here, endorsing this idiots idea that if we just cram christianity down the Iraqis throats all problems will be solved, and not for a moment snap to the irony of it.
Is it just me or are there people with very powerful positions (GW included) that are trying to push for a religious war for the hopes of the 2nd coming?
If he kept the message and ideals and striped out the “our religion is better than yours” crap then he might get somewhere. Most of us do not want to murder the muslims and chew on their bones and the same from them to us. Pointing out some of these things and getting the Iraqis to openly agree wouldnt hurt and just might establish a common ground onto which to speak of other things.
Right now there is no agreement so only fighting is left. Start stupid small. YOU dont like killing babies and neither do we… can everyone agree on this? OK good. We dont believe in killing a person for doing good and neither do you right? OK good…. etc. etc. You know like the Jesus parables. Get people to put themselves into the same shoes of other people then turn the story around on them and make them see that we and they are not so different… and agreement is then possible.
“Daryll” is either still trapped by the snow at an Arby’s in Colorado Springs, or he made good on his offer to assist Pastor Haggard with his rehabilitation……..
Is it just me, or have we, as a country been so ignorant to the cultures of anyone outside the Western World since at least the Vietnam Clusterf*ck, that we make decisions and judgements with no concept of the impact.
Wouldn’t it be a nice concept to actually study the culture, religion, mores and politics before hand? Just a thought.
But asking that of a congressman would be too much considering the Dubya-in-Chief doesn’t have a freakin’ clue his ownself! AND doesn’t want to be bothered with all that crap anyway… cause he is the DECIDER!
And that’s another god damned Christofascist mother f*cker who doesn’t deserve to live in America. Every one of these Christian terrorists need to be expelled if they can’t accept the ideals that this nation was founded upon.
Raven, This is off topic but, Daryll just might be trapped in that arby’s for awhile. This has been one helluva snow storm. Whole Front Range and Eastern Plains is shut down. Really something.
I am ashamed to say that this cretin represents my state. Progressives fought hard against his election, and in fact he won by a few votes after a recount was forced. North Carolina, and unfortunately the nation as whole, has far too many people like Robin Hayes, most notably Vernon Jordan, whom you may not have heard of. He is an African-American poster boy for the extreme right-wing of the GOP. The only difference between him and Hayes is that Hayes is not as publicly vicious. The rethugs poured a lot of money into getting Hayes elected, and they still almost lost.
I am really confused. First we were told Iraq needed to be invaded because Hussein had WMD.
Then we were told the US must to stay so Iraq can become a shining example of a democracy.
Now it is about turning Iraq into a Christian society (maybe the American people needs to vote on whether or not Iraq should be the first crusade of the 21st century?).
Talk about moving the goal posts. These people are certifiable. Someone please commit them to the asylum before they can cause more damage to the world.
I live in Colorado, and along with a nasty snowstorm and having the Colorado Spgs wackjobs(as in Dobson, Haggard, Daryll) we have the likes of Tommy “Miami-is-a-third-world” Tancredo to deal with. But we did get rid of Bob Bauprays-a-lot and now have a Dem Gov, State House and Senate and 1 Senator and a majority of US Reps.
I just saw a car from NC with the “Operation Iraqi Freedom†sticker on it, and other related items. I gues I should avoid NC too?
Comment by ForTruth — December 21, 2006 @ 3:03 pm
NC has an enormous military presence. The 82nd Airborne is in Fayetteville. Pope Air Force Base is in Goldsboro. Camp Lejeune is a major Marine base in Jacksonville. Currently, the US Navy is trying to destroy a lot of wildlife habitat in eastern NC so they can build a bombing range.
The NC version of the GOP was a forerunner of the modern GOP from back in the 70’s, using Rovian tactics to continuously elect Jesse Helms. Jesse and Strom Thurmond were close friends, and was Jesse and Auguste Pinochet.
There are a lot of progressives, but they are in clusters in the metropolitan areas in the center and west of the state.
“I just saw a car from NC with the “Operation Iraqi Freedom†sticker on it. ”
(This is kind of “bad”, but ;) The other day, I saw a car with a typical-looking Yellow Ribbon magnet and when I looked closer, to make out the wording, it actually said “Saving Face”.
If a Muslim leader had said this about Allah (Peace be upon Him), they would be calling him a terr’ist (though the three major desert death cults likely worship the same deity).
AH yes…the Sunnis and Shias and Kurds need to be more peaceful and modest. Just like all the Christian religious figures we see on TV every day. When the Christians are shooting doctors that perform abortion, starting or advocating modern crusades, condemning the poor, spreading hate and intollerance for gays/imigrant/poor/etc, and advocating violence and/or the death penalty for anyone they don’t like or who has commited a crime…it’s done in a peaceful manner.
When all those so-called Christains vote for Republican values, for wealthy tax cuts, reduced health care, increased prices for prescription drugs, increased corporate power, torture, loss of civil rights, etc…they are speaking directly from Jesus’ heart to your ears.
“They are turning citizen against citizen in hopes of furthering their demented dreams of Islamic harmony in America.”
Wow, okay… first it is the progressives who are pointing out the divisive tactics of Goode against Muslim Americans and other Muslims who are potential Americans. You do know that Ellison is an American, don’t you?
And By the way, I always thought that “harmony” was a good thing.
Even though all normal and rational people know the muslims are out toconquer the entire planet.
Although there is nothing “normal” or “rational” about holding that belief which is held by only the most extreme Muslims, have you read the mission of the recently “disbanded” yet, very real PNAC (Project for a New American Century)? It might do you some good as far a perspective goes.
Their record speaks for itself.
Iraq being the latest nation invaded by we Americans, what was the last nation invaded by Muslims? Who’s record are you looking at exactly?
#30 wolf 359….
No intention of making light of anyone’s misfortunes, hope you are safe and well.
I live just down the road from you, relatively speaking, my closest highway was shut down yesterday…….. stay warm …….
Robin Hayes, you could help with your own example…why not crucify you in the eyes of an angry iraqi crowd?…presumably you will resurrect 3 days later, moron….
You want to know who the really scary people are? The Christian Zionists. Even if I supposed for the sake of argument that followers of Islam as a whole wanted to conquer the planet, which is absolute horse puckey, the CZs want to destroy it, for only in its destruction will the mythical Armageddon be realized, with the subsequent return of Jesus Christ, and so on and so forth.
I would really expect more from a general of the US military. Most of the military people I know have a really good grasp of the state of affairs of the world, and a equally good grasp of the value of warfare in solving problems, which is to say, none. Read Stan Goff sometime. Talk to Jacek Teller of Iraq Veterans against the war. And talk to the secular, professional Iraqi’s fleeing the region to escape the religious violence which WE have unleashed. Watch as the government of Iran, which stood a really good chance of being taken over by peaceful reformists before George Bush was set loose upon the world, is kept firmly in control by the mullahs.
The mullahs use people like YOU to scare their followers. YOU use people like them to try to scare us. I can’t tell the difference between YOU and THEM.
The other three were in the Middle Ages and the film footage has been classified by GWB. He is afraid that UK may attack us if we see Richard the Lionheart raping, pilliging and sacking Jerusalem.
If he were really a Christian he never would have supported this war. If Jesus were alive today he would not have supported the war. Why does Robin Hayes hate Jesus?
Perhaps your talents are wasted in Congress. You have heard the cry from Mess o’ Potamia. It’s time to respond. Resign your seat in Congress and lead a mission to carry the gospel to the Shiites and Sunnis.
Don’t worry. Larry Kissell can take over for you until you get back.
Oh…yeah…you probably won’t come back. But you’ll get to be a martyr. How about this: we promise to lead the campaign to have you canonized as St. Robin of Mess-o’-Potamia.
Stability in Iraq ultimately depends on spreading the message of Jesus Christ, the message of peace on earth, good will towards men. Everything depends on everyone learning about the birth of the Savior.
No it doesn’t. As a matter of fact, the more you try to cram YOUR religion down someone else’s throat, the more they are going to war against you. That’s just human nature. None of us want someone else’s ideals force fed to us. There are many religions in this world, and all are welcome to practice them PRIVATELY, in the home or church, where they belong. NOT in the public arena.
Hayes would be right, if by “spreading . . . the message of peace on earth, good will towards men” he meant “spreading” it to Bush and Cheney, to the rest of the Bush Administration and to the neo-cons and those of their ilk.
Good post’s (most), I keep wondering why many christians think their way is the only way and how the hell can you make people accept you’re way at the point of a gun…My view, I won’t force my ideas on you and keep you’rs to you’re self, come at me with a gun and I will use like force or a bigger gun…Work out problem’s with diplomacy, stop the relegious crap throwing.. Any sane mind know’s these people have held their faith as long or longer than the christian’s have…They fight their own holy war’s, so be it…Bring our troop’s home now, no matter the reason bull shit bush started this mess, demand he get’s investigated and impeached and stop the war’s. If a stupid ass christian polatician want’s to spread his word’s let’s buy him a ticket to Bagdad, he and his bible can land outside the green zone and spout his speel…Enough already….Blessings
Well if this war depends on Bush’s religous values look for the Middle East to be drunks and on drugs. Also as the religious leaders are stealing and support sin well we can only hope the Iraq people don’t let this sicko GOP White House idiots in the country.
The massage of Jesus was nice, maybe Hayes should try to live by it. Muhammed had a nice message too. In fact, both messages were almost identical. Both were messages of love, tolerance and peace. So how come these religions are fighting this world to ruin? Reminds me of a Simsons’ episode: ‘We believe God wants peace and tolerance’ ‘NO, we believe God wants peace and love’ ‘NO!’ -fight-
Makes me want to go buy the Left Behind game and kill me some unbelievers. Wait, my conscience says I shouldn’t be murdering people (along with the 10 commandments). Screw it, I am a Christianist. God will forgive me for being a bloodthirsty asshole.
Why does this crazy christian deserve more respect than someone who thinks Elvis is still alive or someone who puts tin foil on his head?
December 21st, 2006 at 2:05 pmThat probably WOULD make the Sunnis and Shias stop shooting each other.
At least long enough to shoot you.
December 21st, 2006 at 2:06 pmWhat? Iraqis are Muslims, not Christians, so what the hell is the GOPer trying to do?
December 21st, 2006 at 2:08 pmAh Yes, Onward Christian Soldiers!! And the wingbats on the right wonder why Muslims hate us like they do. Injecting religion into the equation has always beed a surefire way to court disaster.
December 21st, 2006 at 2:08 pmOMG!!!! Are we going to draft Pat Robertson, Jimmie Dobsen and Jerry Falwell (And MAYBE Teddy Haggard) to go spread the word?
That will be one fun Revival show to watch! Might hit the top of the ratings chart and could save Faux Newz from extiction.
December 21st, 2006 at 2:10 pmYes peace on earth and goodwill to men is really ringing true isn,t it?
December 21st, 2006 at 2:10 pmLearning about the birth of the Savior didn’t stop catholics and protestants from blowing eachother up in Northern Ireland. It certainly didn’t stop the religious people of Germany from hearding Jews, Gypsies and Poles into ovens.
December 21st, 2006 at 2:11 pmYou better watch out,
you better not cry!
You better not pout,
I’m telling you why…
Jesus Christ will beat the crap out of you.
He’ll beat you if you’re sleeping,
He’ll beat you ’til you wake.
He’ll beat you if you’re bad or good,
And there’s nothing you can do!
Jesus Christ is coming, to town.

December 21st, 2006 at 2:11 pmChristians can be such dumbasses…starting with their belief in a “sky daddy.” If Jesus is so great, why doesn’t he fix something?
I don’t see the people of Iraq being very receptive to the gospel of Christ. There was that whole crusade thing, the middle east is still smarting over.
December 21st, 2006 at 2:12 pm“Invade their countries kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity.”
I guess Mann has more support for that position than we thought.

BAD – Muslims who concurred lands and forced the occupied people to accept Isalm at the point of a sword.
GOOD – Christians who concurred lands and forced people to accept the Bible at the point of an M16.
Yep that sums it up.
What happened to “whoever shall pick up a sword shall parish with a sword”? (Works just as well for an M16)

December 21st, 2006 at 4:03 pmNo intention of making light of anyone’s misfortunes, hope you are safe and well.
I live just down the road from you, relatively speaking, my closest highway was shut down yesterday…….. stay warm …….
No problem Raven. I knew that. I live in the Central Rockies (Basalt) so we’re used to it. But that is some hit the Front Range took. WOW
December 21st, 2006 at 4:16 pmRobin Hayes, you could help with your own example…why not crucify you in the eyes of an angry iraqi crowd?…presumably you will resurrect 3 days later, moron….

It will actually be Crusade IV.
The other three were in the Middle Ages and the film footage has been classified by GWB. He is afraid that UK may attack us if we see Richard the Lionheart raping, pilliging and sacking Jerusalem.
December 21st, 2006 at 4:48 pmJesus would not approve of this. Why don’t the false christians stop using Jesus’s name in relation to the war.
December 21st, 2006 at 5:47 pmIf he were really a Christian he never would have supported this war. If Jesus were alive today he would not have supported the war. Why does Robin Hayes hate Jesus?
December 21st, 2006 at 6:00 pmUh, Rep. Hayes might be surprised to learn that Jesus is already essentially a saint in Islam…
December 21st, 2006 at 6:00 pmCongressman Hayes,
Perhaps your talents are wasted in Congress.
December 21st, 2006 at 6:01 pmStability in Iraq ultimately depends on spreading the message of Jesus Christ, the message of peace on earth, good will towards men.
December 21st, 2006 at 6:27 pmHayes would be right, if by “spreading . . . the message of peace on earth, good will towards men” he meant “spreading” it to Bush and Cheney, to the rest of the Bush Administration and to the neo-cons and those of their ilk.
December 21st, 2006 at 6:43 pmGood post’s (most), I keep wondering why many christians think their way is the only way and how the hell can you make people accept you’re way at the point of a gun…My view, I won’t force my ideas on you and keep you’rs to you’re self, come at me with a gun and I will use like force or a bigger gun…Work out problem’s with diplomacy, stop the relegious crap throwing..
December 21st, 2006 at 6:47 pmAdd another Republican to the list of the Bat Shit Crazy politicians in Washington. Memo to Hayes….It’s not the 12th Century anymore.
December 21st, 2006 at 7:38 pmWell if this war depends on Bush’s religous values look for the Middle East to be drunks and on drugs. Also as the religious leaders are stealing and support sin well we can only hope the Iraq people don’t let this sicko GOP White House idiots in the country.
December 21st, 2006 at 8:04 pmWow! I just pulled up the website for Project for a new American Century and I’m floored. The neocons have been planning this debacle for 8 years!
December 21st, 2006 at 8:12 pmpsycho…
December 21st, 2006 at 11:37 pmThe massage of Jesus was nice, maybe Hayes should try to live by it. Muhammed had a nice message too. In fact, both messages were almost identical. Both were messages of love, tolerance and peace. So how come these religions are fighting this world to ruin? Reminds me of a Simsons’ episode: ‘We believe God wants peace and tolerance’ ‘NO, we believe God wants peace and love’ ‘NO!’ -fight-
December 22nd, 2006 at 9:06 amEthnocentrism at it’s finest. Perhaps they should start speaking english too.
December 22nd, 2006 at 9:38 amYes, once you adopt Christianity, you’d never support or vote for war. Ever.
December 22nd, 2006 at 10:44 amGood plan. Rep. Hayes should carry the word to the Iraqis in person. Start by going door to door in Fallujah and Sadr City.
December 22nd, 2006 at 7:04 pmMakes me want to go buy the Left Behind game and kill me some unbelievers. Wait, my conscience says I shouldn’t be murdering people (along with the 10 commandments). Screw it, I am a Christianist. God will forgive me for being a bloodthirsty asshole.
December 22nd, 2006 at 8:56 pmRobin, kind of a femmy name isn’t it?
