Gender gap widening.
“By the mid-’90s, women earned more than 75 cents for every dollar in hourly pay that men did, up from 65 cents just 15 years earlier. Largely without notice, however, one big group of women has stopped making progress: those with a four-year college degree. The gap between their pay and the pay of male college graduates has actually widened slightly since the mid-’90s.”

I’m all for women getting paid as much as men. I hope they can work with there individual employers to make that happen. If a woman can show that she is doing the same work for less pay she should be able to take that employer to court and have that issue resolved.

Working with their individual employers, as Kevin suggested, doesn’t always work, especially if the person with the power to grant raises is a man. There are plenty of men out there who still see women as being not as dedicated to their jobs as men. Yet, as the Times story says, women often get better job-performance reviews than men do.

Your point is well taken and I totally agree with you in spite of my feeble attempts at humor. Your answer is painfully obvious in the comment provided in #13. As long as there are ignorant, uneducated, biased, stupid, and outdated (the proper noun escapes me so for want of a more proper term please accept) male assholes the situation will not change rapidly. It will, should, and shall reach a point of equality, and the pendulum may very well swing the other way soon. A woman President of the United States regardless of circumstances of birth other than gender, will go a long way. So be it!

I cannot help but point out that all, or most, of the reknown Gourmet Chefs of the world are male. However, in closer inspection, that fact supports Katharine’s argument and solidifies Gino’s biases. As Gino would argue “They have to feed us at home but no way will I eat out at a place that has a broad as a cook. Man, I couldn’t swallow a bit of my Chanti, slurp one bit of spaghetti, or even say Grace at the table it I knew that the meal wasn’t cooked by a real man.”

The rest of the family went to the airport to collect the lact of the stragglers leaving me here to baby sit the four dogs and keep them put of Granny’s Christmas present. A swimming pool that, typically, was to be finished Friday and still is little more than a wet hole.

It’s an attitude thing. We need to keep Republicans out of the majority long enough to get back to upholding the laws in place rather than gutting them.
And when there is a majority of conservative white males holding office, it encourages the conservative males in middle management to promote and give decent raises only to men. It’s like the increase in bigotry in this country that’s been apparent since Bush and his cronies took office. If all the people at the top are bigots, that encourages all the closet bigots to be openly hateful.

A number of years ago, during a family gathering such as we are anticipating this weekend, the male members were playing cards while the ladies were watching TV: a talking head show featuring two lesbians. One of the ladies proclaimed that their day was coming and that they would take over the world. My Dear Departed Daddy looked up from his cards and commented “Honey, you better do it in one generation.” Granny and I are proud of our five children (one died in the Service of our Country), eight Grandchildren, and four Great-grand-children. Has anyone thought that maybe more and more women are seeking a 4 yr degree, but still choose to have a family in a traditional manner and be a stay-at-home mom? Just a thought. I mean, I know several women that have earned 4 yr degrees, but still desire to be that stay-at-home mom even though they have a degree. Just a thought. I’d love to see the details of the study. Term used to describe a regular poster who continually posts messages with no apparent grounding in reality. Different from a troll, which implies a sort of sly wink on the part of a poster who knows better, kooks really believe what they write, to the extent that they believe anything.

Women tend to take lower paying, part time jobs because of their child-rearing. They tend not to get the advanced degrees (because of child-rearing). The study is totally skewed.

The Republicans have been in charge for the last 6 years. And since most Republicans claim to be Christians – a patriarchal religion that considers women to be possessions:

it is not at all a surprise that they would pay women less than men and think it is acceptable.
If they instead knew that man comes form woman in reality (the Y chromosome was an evolution of the X), and that countries with Equal Rights Laws actually have better standards of living, they might realize that oppressing women isn’t in their own best interest. It increase crime rates, infant morality rates, unemployment rates, death rates, and so on.
Making women equal in our culture is in the best interest of our culture for both women and men.

There usually are exceptions… I just don’t like pointing them out to trolls :).
I don’t understand why we don’t notice that countries like Sweden, Norway and Germany that have Equal Rights for women are so much better off than countries like The Sudan and China that don’t. And not just better off for women – but for men as well.
