How did Security Council members reach agreement?

The resolution was the result of complex negotiations and the final version was watered down from an original proposed by Britain, France and Germany.

Russia and China – both with close financial ties to Iran – have been reluctant to go down the sanctions path. Russia in particular has been cautious.

A travel ban proposed in earlier versions of the text was later removed after negotiations with Russia. Now states must just notify the UN if certain groups or individuals cross their borders.

The US already imposes sanctions on Iran, especially against its oil industry.

The resolution is flawed, because it restricts shipment and sale of nuclear materials and ballistic missiles’ technolgy by all countries with exception of Russia which is building a nuclear reactor in Iran…Russia only agreed if Russia itself was excempted, to finish the the reactor in already building in Iran worth 800 million dollars of business….In other words..there is a ban..but we are excempted. Iran has been on sanctions for years by many countries..and they are now much advanced in technology than when the sanctions began many years ago. Russia said this resolution does not authorise use of force…time will tell….

  11. RUCerious says:

Oh, by the way chympie, this doesn NOT authorize military action any way shape or form.

  12. Deniz Yeter says:

All sanctions do is kill poor people by them not getting food or medicine that they need

Iran should be able to continue with their nuclear program but under strict supervision so we know they won’t get the bomb

Not to mention we should take away Israel’s nukes at the same time

But this is just wishful thinking because of the people in power and their agenda for Iran.

If Democratic Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota were unable to remain
in office because of health reasons, his replacement would be
appointed by the state’s Republican governor, effectively returning
control of the Senate to the GOP and Dick Cheney.

Initially, the thought of losing the precious 51-49 margin in the
Senate disturbed me. But when I remembered that Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the
new Democratic Speaker of the House, said that impeachment is “a waste
of time” and “is off the table,” I thought, so what if the Dems do
lose the Senate. It’s back-scratching politics as usual in Washington
    regardless.

How is it possible that a member of Congress can say it is “a waste of
time” to impeach a president who has lied—under oath of office—to
justify invading a nonbelligerent country, conspired to torture
prisoners and to strip them of their constitutional rights, illegally
spied on American citizens, violated international treaties against
aggressive war and treatment of POW’s, and, quite possibly, is
complicit in treason and war profiteering? Think Valerie Plame and
    Halliburton!

Here is how I see it for 2007 and beyond:

The Military and the Iraq Commission will deliver a recommendation that 30,000 additional troops be deployed to Iraq as the Bush administration wanted. This new deployment will not be deployed to hot spots in Iraq, but will mass on the Iraqi/Iran border. A false flag operation will coincide just prior too, or during the deployment phase of this operation.

This false flag operation will be a nuclear/dirty bomb on Israeli soil that will be detonated between Hebron/Bethlehem and Jerusalem. It will be determined that Syria and Iran instigated the attack. The Temple of the Mount will be destroyed, then Israel will attack Syria, and the United States will attack Iran, concurrently. Because of the middle-east crises, oil production will cease, causing the worlds economies to collapse in a domino effect.

Once Syria and Iran have been fully engaged, China will see this as a direct threat, and enter the war. Russia will stay out of the conflict for a time.

Marshall Law will be leveled on the United States and dissenters will be processed into FEMA camps. People will try and leave the cities, but will be turned back in armed conflicts. The “American Federal Empire” (AFE) will be established, which will encompass the whole North American continent. Venezuela’s government will be over thrown and it’s oil reserves will be used for the war effort. A new currency will take the place of our present currency, and it will be called the Amero-System. This new currency will be paperless, and eventually, due to fraud the AFE will move to chip implants.

No, not new here. My old name was JohnTitorNot. I’m a progressive Christian (true patriot) that is not taking this from Revelations, but because of my love for the constitution, and people of all faiths I have wrote this to express what I see happening in the world. I truly believe that the present administration believes that they can usher in the prophecies of revelation, and are proactively doing so. I look at many different news sources, and have woken up enough to finally see the light. The truth movement has caused me to open my eyes, and thanks to people like Webster Griffin Tarpley, Alex Jones, Noam Chomsky……….and the actions of this administration it’s not hard to see the natural progression of these events are unfolding regardless of unpopular support. A lot of these events are in the wild already, and can be read from many different news sources, buried back in D48 with misleading bylines. True scholars and former military/CIA types are scared to death, and coming forward to say

    between the lines

that a coup de’tait has taken place and the evangelical/NeoCon movement is behind it. I’m definitely not a troll.

Thanks all! Some insight in why I’m writing; is to hopefully open peoples eyes as mine where, but also to document what I feel to be accurate. I have blogged in many different sites, but feel that this site is the best. Some sites get hundreds of blogs and it becomes a free for all. Others are only interested in hearing what they want to hear. This site has some very intelligent people, and funny as well. So when I post these types of articles, I would like nothing more to be proved wrong, because I can’t believe this country has gotten to the place we are at. All this coming from an X Republican.

Dear Lord baby Jesus, we thank you so much for this bountiful harvest of Dominos, KFC, and the always delicious Taco Bell. I just want to take time to say thank you for my family. U.S. Is Detaining Iranians Caught in Raids in Iraq

BAGHDAD, Dec. 24 — The American military is holding at least four Iranians in Iraq, including men the Bush administration called senior military officials, who were seized in a pair of raids late last week aimed at people suspected of conducting attacks on Iraqi security forces, according to senior Iraqi and American officials in Baghdad and Washington.

The Bush administration made no public announcement of the politically delicate seizure of the Iranians, though in response to specific questions the White House confirmed Sunday that the Iranians were in custody.

Gordon D. Johndroe, the spokesman for the National Security Council, said two Iranian diplomats were among those initially detained in the raids. The two had papers showing that they were accredited to work in Iraq, and he said they were turned over to the Iraqi authorities and released. He confirmed that a group of other Iranians, including the military officials, remained in custody while an investigation continued, and he said, “We continue to work with the government of Iraq on the status of the detainees.”

It was unclear what kind of evidence American officials possessed that the Iranians were planning attacks, and the officials would not identify those being held. One official said that “a lot of material” was seized in the raid, but would not say if it included arms or documents that pointed to planning for attacks. Much of the material was still being examined, the official said.

Nonetheless, the two raids, in central Baghdad, have deeply upset Iraqi government officials, who have been making strenuous efforts to engage Iran on matters of security. At least two of the Iranians were in this country on an invitation extended by Iraq’s president, Jalal Talabani, during a visit to Tehran earlier this month. It was particularly awkward for the Iraqis that one of the raids took place in the Baghdad compound of Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, one of Iraq’s most powerful Shiite leaders, who traveled to Washington three weeks ago to meet President Bush.

Over the past four days, the Iraqis and Iranians have engaged in intense behind-the-scenes efforts to secure the release of the remaining detainees. One Iraqi government official said, “The Iranian ambassador has been running around from office to office.”

Iraqi leaders appealed to the American military, including to Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the senior American ground commander in Iraq, to release the Iranians, according to an Iraqi politician familiar with the efforts. The debate about what to do next has also engaged officials in the White House and the State Department. The national security adviser, Stephen J. Hadley, has been fully briefed, officials said, though they would not say what Mr. Bush has been told about the seizure or the identity of the detainees.

The New York Times of Dec. 24 disclosed the capture of a group of Iranians in Baghdad. This, according to our military sources, is an opening shot in the Baghdad salvation operation at the center of the revised strategy for Iraq which President George W. Bush promised to unveil in the New Year.

DEBKA-Net-Weekly 283, reporting on this operation on Dec. 22, disclosed that two of its key elements are a crackdown on Shiite militias and death squads and cleansing the capital of Iran’s military and intelligence presence.

According to The New York Times , the American military in Baghdad is holding at least four Iranians, including senior military officials, seized in two raids last week in central Baghdad, in circumstances highly embarrassing to top Iraqi leaders.

  35. criticalthinker says:

Should not these sanctions apply to EVERY nation that is enriching uranium?

Why should they only apply to just Iran?

It is not like they violated the UN charter by invading a SOVERIGN nation and started a war or doing something BAD like that!

Surely a nation like that, would be the MORE appropriate one for the UN to put sanctions on, because what could be worse than violating the United Nations Charter?

Until nations that have nuclear weapons stop violating the NPT and get rid of their own weapons, it is HYPOCRITICAL and therefore WRONG to demand that others not have them.

Surely any “critical thinking” person should be able to grasp this!
