  2. Clyde the Ripper Says:

DUHbya hasn't accepted the "realilties of how bad (he) is on the ground..." anywhere!

  3. barfly Says:

So what next? Hagel's another senator with presidential aspirations, and this can be viewed as nothing but political triangulation. When it counts, he's been as much a rubberstamp as the rest.

  4. michael mendoza Says:

Clearly he has not yet faced reality! For the last two years all realiable opinions have said that more troops will not help. It's now too late. This is a civil war.

It's funny to use the words "president" and "Bush" in the same sentence.

It's frickin' hilarious to use the words "reality" and "Bush" in the same universe.

This line from the article is depressing:

“I'm not quite sure he fully appreciates the incompetence of what's gone on."

Look at that passive construction. The incompetence has gone on? How about the incompetence of his staff and planners and himself?

Using passive voice is a standard way to distance responsibility and action.

Bush is a weaselly, overinflated, glad-handing frat boy whose only skill was faking sincerity on camera. Had the Republican power brokers who put him into power actually intended him to lead the country, they would have looked for a proven business leader. But, since their only goal was to loot and pillage the government and our laws, Bush has met their expectations.

Actually it is not amazing at all, nor uncommon. In my relatively short lifetime as compared to the civilized world it has happened twice with a lot of wannabees. DUHbya is just emulating his role model and mentor--albeit they never actually met. Adolf attached the Jews, DUHbya supports the Radical Right Christians. There is no difference. And DUHbya came by the association naturally as it is a fact that his fore-fathers of two or three generations supported Hitler. DUHbya should meet the same fate.

I agree with many of the posters. Mental illness must be in the equation.

Sadly, by New Year's Eve the number of fallen soldiers may be over 3000. Yesterday, I think six soldiers died.

This entire war is a complete disaster. I think the billing of this war should be: IRAQ WAR/MURPHY'S LAW WAR. Anything that could possibly go wrong HAS gone wrong. The likelihood of a favorable outcome is almost zero.

You don't run a marathon if you're not in shape, because you're not going to cross the finishing line. We're not going to cross the finishing line in Iraq, because we weren't in shape. WE'VE HIT HEARTBREAK HILL, and the race is over.

George W. Bush is rich. If Dumbo was running a marathon, and pooping-out on Heartbreak Hill, he would simply hire bodybuilders to carry him over the finishing line. Money, power, and influence can buy many things: love, elections, and even not serving time in Vietnam. However, money can't buy a favorable outcome in an ill-conceived and poorly executed war.

George has lived in a dream world his entire life. When he failed in the past, someone was always there to bail him out. Sorry George, no one is going to bail you out this time--not daddy, mommy, Laura, Jeb, Jim Baker, or even God (?). You made a big mess in your pants--big time, and no one can clean it up.

Wake up, President George W. Bush. The stinking, pile of doo-doo just keeps getting bigger. S**T CAN HAPPEN WHEN YOU'RE CAUGHT WITH YOUR PANTS DOWN. If you wish, we can spend trillions on pooper scoopers, but it's all for naught. Sending in more troops is for naught.

Thirty-thousand more soldiers is FOR NAUGHT, BECAUSE THIS WAR CANNOT BE BAUGHT--blood-wise and money-wise.

    John

  24. John Gilpins Says:

"You made a big mess in your pants and no one can clean it up."

I forgot! Mr. TURD BLOSSOM can clean it up. Yeah, yeah, yeah! Good luck, Mr. Turd Blossom.

Maybe you can exhange your Chia Plant present for a pooper scooper at Wal-Mart tomorrow. Just make sure it's a big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big, big pooper scooper.

  25. Clyde the Ripper Says:

    # 24 Mr. Billy,

You are absolutely right. One man cannot create all the chaos in a literal sense but in the metaphorical sense the assumption has merit. DYHbya, as an incompetent, ignorant, probably marginally insane individual could not and cannot accomplish anything as evidenced by his life story. He is not even a catalyst because that implies some influence. He is nothing more than his favorite-- a pet goat. Adolph Hitler didn't crate Nazi Germany, Nazi Germany created Adolph the same way Neo-con Republicans created DUHbya.

  27. JTitor Says:

To all...It's apparent that Bush is a moron, and he probably believes what is feed to him, but to think that his policies are of ill design would be tragic. Instability in the Middle East is the goal. The prize is a puppet Iran, Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq to control the oil, and it's people. The ultimate goal is to destabilize China.

This move for world domination started long ago, and we are just seeing the fruits of that endeavor. If anyone still thinks that 9/11 was perpetrated from a cave in Afghanistan, and 4 airlines where allowed to fly for up to 1.5hrs without intervention while under hostile control are fooling themselves. This was a staged event to usurp the remaining barriers that have hindered this New World Order. Long ago the NWO has seen that their agenda wouldn't be popular so needed a way to remove that threat. This happened on 9/11 (Northwood’s document, PNAC, REX 84, HR6166...).

The only way to stop this is to engage people that this is happening, and to be understanding that people want to hold on to the belief that America could never do this, that this president knows something more then we, and he is fighting the "enemy" for the best interest of all free people.

People should look at the John W. Warner Defense Authorization Act of 2006 (PL 109-364), The Act "has a provocative provision called 'Use of the Armed Forces in Major Public Emergencies'," the thrust of which "seems to be about giving the federal government a far stronger hand in coordinating responses to [Hurricane] Katrina-like disasters," Jeff Stein, CQ National Security Editor wrote December 1, 2006.

"But on closer inspection, its language also alters the two-centuries-old Insurrection Act, which Congress passed in 1807 to limit the president’s power to deploy troops within the United States ... 'to suppress, in a State, any insurrection, domestic violence, unlawful combination, or conspiracy'," Stein wrote.

"But the amended law takes the cuffs off" and "critics say it’s a formula for executive branch mischief," Stein wrote, as "the new language adds 'natural disaster, epidemic, or other serious public health emergency, terrorist attack or incident' to the list of conditions permitting the President to take over local authority — particularly 'if domestic violence has occurred to such an extent that the constituted authorities of the State or possession are incapable of maintaining public order.'"

"One of the few to complain, Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, D-Vt., warned that the measure virtually invites the White House to declare federal martial law. ... It 'subverts solid, longstanding posse comitatus statutes that limit the military’s involvement in law enforcement, thereby making it easier for the President to declare martial law,' he said in remarks submitted to the Congressional Record on Sept. 29

He needs to be reminded that he "works at the pleasure of the american people". In January, everyone needs to begin writing to the press, their reps, and anyone in government pressing for his impeachment. He's already indicted himself by lying repeatedly to the american people which is an impeachable offense. Then there's Conyer's list of "impeachable offenses" which is now mountainous to follow up on from there....Let's send the Impeachment message to Congress - LOUD & CLEAR!

  32. John Gilpins Says:

    Lil, Veritas

Bush has accepted one reality: HIS FRIENDS ARE REWARDED WITH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.

I just read an article on the net, and Hurricane Katrina fraud in going to be in the neighborhood of 2 billion dollars. That is not a misprint--$2,000,000,000.

Bush's friends, in high places, have gotten all of the governmental contracts without any bids, while minorities received only 1.5% of the contracts. This is absurd in a city that is largely black--New Orleans.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL THE MULTIMILLIONAIRES--BUSH'S FRIENDS. What will it take to get Bush out-of-office? Friends, theives are at work stealing OUR money. Sooooooooo many people are getting rich, and it's obscene. Without a doubt, this is the most corrupt administration in the history of our country.

I'm willing to pay whatever it costs for a full accounting of where 2 billion dollars has gone. I want names and addresses. We need to track these people down. These looters have their hands in the vaults at Fort Knox, and they're not going to get away with it.

Tell me, what's the difference between poor blacks looting stores after a natural disaster, and rich folks looting the vaults at Fort Knox? None! None! The only difference is that the poor blacks have to tote the merchandise on their aching backs, while the millionaires drive away in BMWs and Mercedes with their suitcases stuffed with money.

The next time Fox has cameramen shooting footage of poor blacks looting stores after a natural disaster, I want them shooting footage of rich folks looting the vaults at Fort Knox. Why not?

Some rich Democrats should dangle 5 million here, and 5 million there under a few peoples' noses. Big bucks will start a few conversations about what's really, really, really going on in this country. I want to know what's going on. The graft and fraud is a big story.

The Jeff Gannon story is strange. A nobody doesn't ask the President of the United States questions without a journalism background. A nobody just doesn't walk into the White House without signing in and signing out. A nobody just doesn't sleep at the White House night-after-night. Obviously, some people know quite a bit and they are not talking. I suggest 5 million might get a few people, in the know, talking. Five million would sure have me talking. I'd be talking non-stop. A cool $25,000 a minute would be wuuuunderful.

THE LOOTING OF FT. KNOX IS ALMOST AS WORSE AS HURRICANE KATRINA.

    John

  33. JTitor Says:

    Hey John,

In writing that "the Jeff Gannon story is strange", and I would add Bush kissing him on the lips after the State of the Union address on primetime TV was a small glimpse into the hypocrisy of this closeted president. Jeff Gannon was a regular at Bohemian Grove, servicing those NeoCons that use homosexuality as a wedge to divide the electorate.

I truly believe that these people don't believe themselves to be gay, but instead treat it as a kind of "prison sex" power dominance over other men. These people belief in satanic rituals to achieve power and dominance very similar to the Third Reich. Male prostitutes visiting the Whitehouse during the 80's was rampant. They just found a way around scrutiny by issuing press passes and day visits to inner core slumber parties. Rumors that Turd Blossom is called "Miss Piggy" in the private gay clubs in Wasington....how do like that visual? Enough to make you sick. It's too bad that good people that are gay have to to be the beacon for all this hatred.

  34. 1involvedAmerican Says:

If George Bush goes through with his “troop surge,” he will be digging his own grave. He will not be impeached, but I believe he and Dick Cheney will be forced to resign before the end of 2007.

Why do I believe this? First, his troop surge will not quell the violence that is consuming Iraq. The tactics of roadside bombs, car bombs, suicide bombers, and mass kidnappings and killings of civilians are non-confrontational tactics. They are tactics created not to confront the American forces head-on. A motivated population can employ these tactics no matter how many troops or security forces patrol the streets. Couple the escalating violence and deaths of our soldiers along with the new Democratic investigations that will expose the fraud, waste and incompetence of the Iraq War and the American public will be outraged. We will see growing national street demonstrations demanding impeachment regardless of what the “adults” of the Democratic Party think.

If this administration goes through with the troop surge plan, it will be ignoring the Iraq Study Group and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Both of these groups are at the heart of the mainstream Republican Party. As the death toll for Americans rise during the first half of 2007, it will be quickly realized that this surge isn’t working. No Republican Congressman or Senator who is up for re-election in 2008 will support Bush. By this time, the Democratic investigations will have uncovered enough that Articles of Impeachment can be drafted. With the help of a Republican Party realizing they don’t stand a chance in 2008 if they continue to support Bush, the “grey suits” of the Republican Party will meet with Bush and Cheney and offer them two choices: resign or be impeached. Cheney will resign first for health reasons and Bush will pick a “caretaker” Vice President acceptable to both the Republicans and Democrats. Within eight weeks after naming this new Vice President, Bush will resign.

This is not a fantasy but a real scenario we will see played out in the next ten months. It will be the first time in American history that both a President and Vice President will resign and a fitting end to the worst presidential administration to ever govern our country.

  38. ChildrenofLir Says:

ANd are the Dems doing anything any different than Bush. Even after a mandate to stop the war the dems continue to fund and support the war. Why is ThinkProgress silent on the Iraq/Iran war issue now? The current build up in the Arabian Gulf indicates Bush and company are planning to attack Iran (ergo Scott Ritter) and the Dems are silent.

How can the Dems continue to support the war and think they have the people's support?

  39. ChildrenofLir Says:

Where are the plans for withdrawal from the DEms.
Instead the Dems vote for more appropriations for the war, and are silent on the IRan situation. DO the Dems really believe they can get away with complicity with Bush in widening the Iraq war to include Iran. Are the Dems bought and paid for by the AIPAC lobby too? Is there no one in Congress who represents the wishes of the American people?

  40. ChildrenofLir Says:

I don't think waiting for being sworn in is an adequate excuse for their silence. Hilary and Obama have already been campaigning, with not a word about IRaq, while Kucinich plays the stalking horse again, but will he withdraw at the last minute after gathering votes he makes a disappearing act and turns his supporters over to the contender. I don't trust Kucinich to follow through. I'm looking for a Dem with guts and conviction to stand up and stop the war. And I don't see any.

You are the kind that keeps the Democratic party in the control of the power brokers. Under the song of righteousness you cloak the Democrats from having to do anything real.

Don't quiz me about where I was during 911. Quiz yourself. And ask yourself why no ourtfront Democrat yet has even asked Bush why he was reading Goat boy stories while the twin towers were demolished.

  52. Briseadh na Faire Says:

    Children of Lir,

to the extent that you wish Bush's Wars to stop, we are in agreement. However, I do not believe you accept the realities of politics, and the length, breadth, and depth of Corporate Ownership of America. If the Democrats are indeed going to prevail against this beast, great care must be taken. The Corporate oligarchy owns the media, thus can sway to a great deal public opinion. Did you not witness the spin immediately after the November election?

Did you not see how the Baker Commission report was trashed, and the discourse immediately changed to increasing troop levels?

Did you not read Leverette's original article, the one which formed the basis for the op-ed piece the Bush White House censored?

If you are a Democrat, have you left your home to join any anti-war protests? Have you spoken with Cindy Sheehan? Have you run for public office? If not, why not? Why look to someone else to carry your flag? Why don't you become the very person you seek?

If you were trying to sell a product on that reasoning you would be out of a job because no one would buy that kind of convoluted nonsense.

And don't make excuses to me about the "length tnad breadth of corporate ownership"

because you know as well as I that the Dems are into the corporate ownership just as deeply as the Republicans. You have only to look at the American Enterprise Institute roster to know that the Dems and Repubs are all in there at the elite level carving up the world.

So don't lecture me about the Dems and how delicate everythign is and how they just have to wait for the right time and then they'll do the right thing. I've been around too long and I know that's bull.

They are paid well to do the bidding of the power elite. And they don't have the guts to do the right thing. Yet they want to pretend that they represent the right thing. Well I am not fooled. And many more like me are not fooled.

  56. Briseadh na Faire Says:

ChildrenofLir - I am neither Republican nor Democrat. I would as soon see a party rise up comprised of both "red" and "blue," a purple party, if you will. A party not beholden to Corporate interests. A party not funded by the priviledged few. It is possible. But things haven't gotten bad enough to shake the masses from their complacency. The November elections were a start.

I, for one, will wait and see what the Democrats will do with their majority status. Right now, by all appearances, they are holding their cards pretty close to their vest.

I'm looking at the Dems, and I don't see anybody, and that' why i'm blogging here tonight. I listen to Kucinich and I read the alternative media, and my sense is he's a stalking horse again. He goes out in front and draws all the anti war people into a corner and then he disappears and hands over his people to the Dem that wins. And I'm not going for that game anymore. So right now I'd have to say I'll vote for Nader again. And I'll keep voting for 3rd parties and maybe someday we'll have a viable third party and the Dems won't be able to get away with PRETENDING to be an opposition party while SELLING OUT their constituents at the same time.

Yet this past election, the people spoke, and they spoke loudly

ANd the Repubs and Dems are ignoring what they said. The people said - get out of IRaq now.

Yet the power elite - Dems and Repubs refuse to do that, and refuse to even discuss it -

How dare Obama, Hilary, or any of the Repubs not even discuss Iraq.

Where the hell do any of them get off even making a speech without taking a stand.

See LL, you are too young to even know what to demand of a politican.

At least I learned during the Vietnam war to demand that politicians say one way or thte other -- and as the old song goes

    "Which side are you on?"

That's the question that needs to put to every Dem.

    WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON?

    Press Release of Senator Boxer
Boxer Says Administration has Failed to Respond to Voters' Call for Change in Iraq Policy

    Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Los Angeles, California: The following are U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer’s (D-CA) remarks as prepared for delivery at a press conference in Los Angeles today:
On November 7th, the American people sent a clear and unequivocal message to Congress and the President: it’s time for change.

Nowhere was that message more pointed than on the war in Iraq.

As a Senator who voted against the war, and a senior member of the Foreign Relations Committee, I have watched with frustration and dismay as our President has stubbornly refused to change course, even as our disastrous policy has sent us on a downward spiral into chaos in Iraq.

It has been two weeks since the voters sent their message of change, and still, we have yet to hear this President articulate any meaningful changes to our policy in Iraq, or even express the inclination to do so.

And who is paying the price?

Our brave men and women in uniform,

    and the American taxpayers.

(Click to view: CHART 1 Costs of the War)

And I want to note that 22 percent of the deaths so far are Californians or those based in California.

These costs are robbing our families of the investments we must make to improve their lives.

Let’s look at some of the unmet needs of the American people.

(Click to view: CHART 2: Unmet need of the American People)

What has the President done since the election?

Despite the departure of Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, which was long overdue, we have seen no substantive changes from this White House.

Let’s look at the President’s visit to Vietnam.

When asked if there were lessons to be taken from Vietnam in the debate over Iraq, the President’s response was, “we’ll succeed unless we quit. We tend to want there to be instant success in the world, and the task in Iraq is going to take awhile.”

The President’s statement flies in the face of history—does he think we would have won the Vietnam War by staying the course? President Nixon took us out of Vietnam because he understood that there could be no victory for America with our brave men and women sitting in the middle of a civil war.

And the President is wrong to imply that the American people are impatient with the war—at the end of this month, we will have been in Iraq longer than we were in World War II.

Let’s look at what else this Administration has said lately:

On November 13, the President’s spokesperson, Tony Snow said that we are winning in Iraq.

But let’s look at Iraq just in November

(Click to view: CHART 3: November Iraq headlines)

These are headlines from newspapers across the country:

“Dozens are kidnapped at Baghdad University” (New York Times, Nov. 14, 2006)

“Violence in Iraq called increasingly complex” (Washington Post, Nov. 17, 2006)

“Iraqi police find 56 bodies in Baghdad” (Associated Press, Nov. 3, 2006)

“Troubled troops in no-win plight” (USA Today, Nov. 2, 2006)

“A Violent Month Hits Home; Across the U.S., Iraq’s deadly toll is mourned by family and friends” (Los Angeles Times, Nov. 1, 2006)

“U.S. Searching for Americans Abducted in Southern Iraq” (New York Times, Nov. 17, 2006)

“20 killed in bus bombing in Baghdad” (Associated Press, Nov. 13, 2006)

“November off to bloody start in Iraq” (Associated Press, Nov 3, 2006)

“Blasts kill dozens of Iraqi police recruits; Maliki to reshuffle cabinet” (Washington Post, Nov. 13, 2006)

    Those are the headlines.

We know that we have already lost 47 US soldiers this month.

1,368 Iraqis have been killed this month, making it the deadliest month in Iraq since the Associated Press began tracking the figure in April 2005.

Four American security guards and an Austrian colleague were kidnapped from a supply convoy by men wearing Iraqi police uniforms…they are still missing.

And gunmen wearing Iraqi police commando uniforms stormed the Ministry of Higher Education building in the middle of the day last week, abducting 150 Iraqis.

This is November, and still this White House is beating the drum for the status quo.

Vice President Cheney told the Federalist Society on November 18th that, “the key is to get the Iraqis into the fight.”

That’s what Congress said more than a year ago, when 79 Senators—Democrats and Republicans—voted for a resolution saying that 2006 should be a period of “significant transition in Iraq to full Iraqi sovereignty…”

The American people agree with the 79 of us who voted for that resolution: According to a Pew Research Poll conducted Nov. 9-12, 56 percent of the American people think the U.S. should set a timetable for withdrawing troops from Iraq.

The Iraqi people want to see change as well:

In September, a University of Maryland poll found that 71 percent of Iraqis want their government to ask foreign forces to depart within a year. And 78 percent believe that our presence is provoking more conflict than it is preventing.

Senator Russ Feingold has a bill that I am cosponsoring that says it is U.S. policy to redeploy from Iraq by July 1, 2007, leaving only the minimal level of U.S. forces necessary to conduct targeted counterterrorism activities, train Iraqi forces, and protect U.S. infrastructure and personnel.

Senator Carl Levin, the incoming Chairman of the Armed Services Committee, has laid out a plan to begin redeployment in four to six months.

Senator Joe Biden, the incoming Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, has proposed a political solution that would encourage a federalized Iraq, with three semi- autonomous regions and a central government to disburse oil revenues.

    It’s time for a change.

Even Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of State and advisor to this White House, says that this war can’t be won militarily: “If you mean by clear military victory an Iraqi government that can be established…across the whole country, that gets the civil war under control and sectarian violence under control in a time period that the political processes of the democracies will support, I don't believe that is possible."

So today, in light of an Administration that is wedded to the status quo in Iraq, I ask Californians and the American people to once again be heard.

Please go to my Senate website, http://www.boxer.senate.gov, and sign my petition urging the President to start redeploying the troops out of Iraq now.

It’s time for the President to start listening to the American people. On November 7th, we sent a message for change. But we cannot and must not let up until we see this Administration take action.

Boxer's petition demanding an exit strategy from Iraq drew 107,218 signatures

I signed the petition. But a google search of: barbara boxer petition, indicates that it received little or no attention from Corporate Media.

And yes, I've met Cindy Sheehan. And hugged her. And I played the bagpipes at last year's State of the Union protest in D.C. for Casey and all the other fallen troops.

Where would Boxer/Obama stand on the issues

And don't tell me how they would strategically be the best.

Tell me how their stand on issues would be good of the country.

You can't because they don't stand anywhere on the issues.

All they talk about is strategy. Like somehow the American people are so stupid they would vote for someone just cause he's the most likely to win. That's such a disgusting argument in a time of war and death I can't even begin to say.

  68. ren Says:

Biden should be the next president because he has the most international experience and Hillary sucks.... he will hang Hillary's war record around her neck and show Obama has no experience what so ever....
    It should be President Joseph Biden and Vice President Charles Hagel;
That might be the only thing to get congress back together and our country back together, And show the international community that we aren't a bunch of screw-off's anymore, we are ready to get down to the business of diplomacy and working together to take the world back from the abyss.... Well for one thing, she calls on Kissinger as her proof - that alone makes my skin crawl

But my question to you is -

Why has she said there will be no discussion of impeachment?

President Bush lied to Congress on Iraq WMD. As a result of those lies, Congress gave him war powers and appropriate funds for his war on terror.

On that basis alone, he should be impeached and removed from office.

Since then hundreds of thousands of people have died as a result of the Iraq war.

Pelosi can make all the speeches she wants trying to sound like an anti war candidate. but when push comes to shove SHE DOES NOTHING.

  74. ren Says:

Biden called it from the start that the country should split into separate factions and have a central government and then they voted for the same resolution within the Iraqi government,,,Stuuuuuppppiddddd...

  75. Briseadh na Faire Says:

ChildrenofLir - the only thing that comes through in your posts is anger. How can you seek peace if all you feel is anger?

To seek peace, you must become peace. That's a great deal about what this day is all about....celebrating the birth of what many call the "Prince of Peace."

Meanwhile, discussing the corporate ownership of the Republicans and Democrats does not address the root issue. Can you tell me what that is?

  93. veritas Says:

I find it extremely fascinating how "one person could tank an entire country" particularly when that country calls itself a "democracy" and would like to become a model for the rest of the world as such. How, in a true democracy, one man (the wrong man, as it turns out, due to tampered elections) who is simply labeled as "commander in chief" (nothing more than a pedestrian CEO) has amassed such personal power to overturn laws which have been in effect for decades, overtly and cavalierly admits to spying on it's citizenry, lies to the people to engage the country in an amoral, illegal war, has bankrupted the country financially and continues to bring it to "third world status" with each passing day, and still is not considered a "tyrant" or a "dictator"???? Maybe I am missing something in my definition of a democracy but it fails to make logical sense to me that this wrong man, sitting in a position of respect and honor which he has tarnished internationally thus reducing the reputation of this once-great country to that of heinous occupiers and war mongers, is still marching on as he tramples the very constitution which made this country what is once was.....To him the constitution is a piece of toilet paper - means absolutely nothing and he has, singlehandedly, abolished every last right of the people within this democracy. How have we allowed this despot such power? How have we enabled this man to accomplish all of this regression in 6 short years?

It's because the american people have been in a state of denial - not only about who we are but the obvious hypocrisy of our actions. It's because we knew the election of 2000 was stolen right out from under our eyes, but "pretended" that everything was Utopian because, after all, we are the United States of America - a once-great and powerful country.

It's because Americans daily were fed lines of total propaganda and, by the time we realized one lie, the next lie and heinous action was reaching the fore....we barely had time to digest one debacle before another was surfacing and on and on the snowball tumbled down the mountain....until the snowball became a mountain unto itself, which it presently is.

For those of us keeping a daily diary of the chicanery, pure nonsense, and shenanigans of this administration in it's corruption, lies, deceit, and overt theft of the treasury of this country, it may be time to write a book or move to a foreign country - or both. It's obvious that the economy is being propped up by Big everything: BIG OIL, BIG PHARMA, BIG INSURANCE, BIG WAR PROFITEERING....and the average citizen is struggling to pay the heating bill this Winter. It's clear that there will be a recession soon (housing market tanking is a HUGE indicator of the accurate state of the economy) and perhaps even a depression.

Will it soon be time to take our hard-earned dollars and do as our forefathers did - stash it under the nearest mattress?? It certainly IS time to revisit the concept of 'TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION' as this abysmal failure of the outgoing congress sold the country to the highest bidder without any regard for the middle class citizenry. It was done once and was dubbed "The Boston Tea Party"....I wonder what a current day Tea Party might look like? Not paying taxes would certainly get the attention of the haughty bureaucrats in washington.....Perhaps with the total erosion of every last one of our constitutional rights, this is all that the american people actually have left to voice their disgust with the way this country is being run..

The people will give the incoming Congress a few weeks to get their ducks in a row but if the investigations into the level of corruption we see now in Washington is not squelched and knocked down immediately, they, too, will become "complicit" and the american people will form a third party - thus doing away completely with a 2 party system which no longer works in this country....it's long overdue!! Beware Dems: The people want investigations galore, then indictments, then impeachment in all of the highest places of criminal activity in this country. The people intend to settle for absolutely NOTHING LESS!

CoL first railed over the "fact" that Democrats had not spoken out against the war since the November elections.

I posted Boxer's letter, which had been ignored by Corporate Media. CoL dismissed her letter and petition because of one reference to Kissinger.

You are right, CoL. We are not on the same side. You employ much of the same tactics as McCain's new communications director. You rail against the Democrats before they are able to act, yet give the Republicans a free pass for all they have done to destroy this country.

Perhaps Condi needs to enlist herself to serve or offer up one of her relatives to the service and then she can experience some small degree of empathy.

  101. barfly Says:

So, we have reached the symbolically-important number of dead servicemen matching the number killed on 9/11. I'm sure Olbermann will mark its passing, and perhaps even Mathews. But a true measure of how far we've come will be seen on network TV tonight. Will the networks have some sort of war retrospective, coming as it does (the war dead number = 9/11 dead) when networks traditionally look back at the events of the past year? It would seem a natural: Democrats take control of House and Senate largely through dissatifaction with the war, and the casualties of that war matching the number killed in the original attacks on 9/11. Fox will ignore it, naturally, but it would add some flavor to an otherwise thin network gruel of canned clips and rehashed rhetoric.

  102. veritas Says:

#22 Thanks for the url....it's a fascinating read entitled "Is Bush Nuts?". I fear so but not in the obvious way the term is loosely thrown around in washington these days. I fear it is serious psychiatric disease known as Bipolar Disorder/Schizophrenia whose hallmark is often auditory hallucinations (aka hearing voices). Typically, in the most acute cases of this disease, the afflicted hears "the voice of God". I shudder to read this excerpt because his documented use of hearing the voice of God telling him to engage in criminal behavior is textbook of this disease. Ted Bundy, et al also heard the voice of God telling them to destroy people! How long will the intelligent people and qualified physicians (psychiatrists) in this country allow fear of repercussion to stall them from taking the necessary action to help this man? He's obviously struggling with alcohol, drug use and serious psychopathology and is not receiving the help he so desperately needs. Impeachment may be his only way out - and will certainly save face versus stepping down. The only fortunate part of this disease (for him) is the fact that they are so out of contact with reality that they rarely have enough insight to see what their reputation actually is nor the consequences of their wrongdoing.

I believe it's "beyond time" for the medical experts to insist on an evaluation of this leader before his disease takes down an entire country.

How are troops; forced to go to Iraq over and over again somehow making me more safe? I have been with this group for a long time and haven't seen one post putting down the troops. They put down the policies that lead us here. Do you know the odds of getting killed in a terrorist attack are above 547,500,000,000 to one. now lets look at the amount of troops dying in Iraq:

    American Deaths:
    Since war began (3/19/03): 2979
    Since "Mission Accomplished" (5/1/03) 2842
Since Capture of Saddam (12/13/03): 2513
    Since Handover (6/29/04): 2113
    Since Election (1/31/05): 1543
    American Wounded Official Estimated
    Total Wounded: Official: 22235 Estimated: 23000 - 100,000

All of this for a war that had nothing to do with Terror, Osama, or anything other then oil. And if you believe that 9/11 was even a terrorist attack then you haven't looked at the facts. 9/11 was a staged attack to get people like you to drink the koolaid.

    Comment by ChildrenofLir

I have to agree as well. If anyone in this group thinks that the Democrats are going to turn it around for the American people your wrong. I write in progressive, liberal, and conservative (don't confuse paleo-conservative with PedoCons) blogs. All of us have one thing in common, and that is a hate for GWB. What I try to do is to inform paleo-conservatives of losing the bill of rights and the constitution under this supposed self proclaimed conservative. I'm a "progressive" or "reformist" in the true literal meaning. Change needs to happen quick, or we are going to loose our freedoms and become a police state. Liberals believe that change needs to happen over a period of time. Conservatives don't nbelieve in change, but when change is thrust upon them they get pissed.

Unfortunately, facts do not depend on what George Bush accepts or does not accept. Wishing and praying, though a useful task when one is completely helpless, is not working in Iraq and should not be a US President's primary connection to reality.

    JTitor,

Jeff Gannon is in a state of denial. I looked at his political Web site several weeks ago. I guess his Web site is being funded by right-wingers. If he's not in therapy, he should be.

He still has his ***********ad on the net. I guess he's a Christian? I think the ********** ad states that he's in his 30s when he's actually 49- years-old.

Rabid, fervently homophobic homosexuals should be classified as a psychiatric disorder. Being homophobic is not a psychiatric disorder, nor is being homosexual a psychiatric disorder. But when the two coexist together, it's an odd, odd combination. Just like a Nazi Jew is an odd combination. A gay televangelist is an odd combination.

What's so disturbing about many of these Republican closet cases, is that they want to deny homosexuals a love life. They seem not to be interested in love; they're interested only in pure raw sex. Apparently to them, romantic love would be unthinkable. They're the "bad gays." The "good gays" desire romantic love.

    John

I haven't looked at Jeff Gannon's male escort website in well over a year. However, my memory is that in addition to lying greatly about his age, he was also calling himself an ex-Marine, though, in reality, he has no military experience.

IMPEACH AND INCARCERATE - No pardons for Dubbie or Dickie, and a trial in the Hague for Donnie. Condi can slink back into obscurity, and whore herself on the board of an oil company instead of on CNN.

If the gop mafiosi are not shown, unequivocally, that they cannot serially violate the constitution in their maniacal and disgusting quest for power, they'll just do it again and again, as the did in the 60's, 80's and are now. They must be deterred. Obviously, a few token prosecutions and resignations are an acceptable "cost of doing business" for them. Punishment of the most severe order is what they prescribe for their opponents, so let's let them get a full taste of it for once - maybe that will get them to represent their constituents with some semblance of decency, and disabuse them of the notion they are ordained by God to rule the entire planet.

I'm getting tired of watching them pull the same tired old shit over and over and over, without suffering the due consequences. Will we forever forget, just a few years after they're out of power, what kind of sleazy bastards they are - watergate/nixon was forgotten and we got ronnie ray-gun.....iran/contra was forgotten and we got Idiot-ass Jr.. Enough already! Throw these fudgepackers in jail, and give all their money away, and make their kids go out and fend for themselves in the world. The loathing of inherited privilege was a big piece of what started this country - let's get back to those core values and rid ourselves of the neo-aristocracy we've allowed to flourish.
