sorry to burst anyones bubble, but from my research, the Yule log burning is from the scandinavian God Jule (pronounced yoole). burning of the log, a phallic symbol, has something to do with fertility.
heck the entire Christ mass holiday is a pagan custom, brought about by people trying to stop the sinning that went on when people worshipped trees, and Mithra, the pagan sun god and another god Saturnus, the god of agriculture. http://www.therefinersfire.org/christmas.htm
Merry Christmas to all TP “enlightened” bloggers. For those still under the dark spell of the radical right, there’s still “hope” that someday you, too, will be brought to the light. After all, “darkness is simply the “absence of light”"…..
To the Uninformed and often psychologically deranged trolls on these threads: Don’t quit your “day job” just yet!!
I should be thinking warm and fuzzy thoughts today - and I will when the whole family gets together later - but at this moment, I have cold and ugly thoughts for Bush&Co.
Thanks,TP, for a great site. I look forward to 2007 with this great group of people here.
Good Morning Marie, Jay and all, I am sending Blessings to one and all for this day and every day….A Merry Christmas for those that celebrate that, another Blessed Yule for all of us that celebrate that and the day’s getting longer….Peace on earth and Impeachment are my goal’s for the new year…I don’t realy care where this administration goes, would prefere jail but will be happy with any departure….Blessings, good health and happiness. Thank You TP and staff for creating this forum..
he holiday season frequently features both selfless charity and empty gestures. For Barbara and George H.W. Bush, 2006 proved no exception.
Appearing on ABC’s This Week on Christmas Eve, the President’s parents recalled their work over the past week ringing the bell for the Salvation Army in Houston. Calling it “the Lord’s work,” Bush the Elder declared “There’s so many people in need, so many people that need help.” Mrs. Bush concurred, adding:
“Giving is so easy…We just ought to share. We have so much. And it’s a joy to share.”
Of course, former First Lady Barbara Bush hasn’t always found such joy in sharing with the poor, the disadvantaged and the destitute…
Whaaa? Name change? Dual personality? Two different people?

Name change. Initially I adopted RS because I came here specifically to take on the global warming denialists and I thought it was relevant that I am a scientist. But I found that I enjoy bashing trolls on a wide variety of subjects, and now most of my posts have nothing specifically to do with science, so I have chosen to adopt a more generic identity.
Hi everyone!
Merry Christmas / Happy Day Off, take your pick!
Thought I’d take this opportunity to tell everyone @TP how much I appreciate them, and enjoy coming here.
Whether it’s a story that makes me shake my head, or a dubunking that makes me think,”Yah! Take that, MSM!”, or the special wisdom of all you wonderful people here, I will always be educated in some form just by dropping by.
Enjoy the day.
I am baffled that Ebert gave it such a low rating. It gets an 8.7 out of 10 on IMDB, which is a very high rating for IMDB. It is a fantastic movie. It won best screenplay and best supporting actor Oscars, and it really deserved the screenplay award.
This is my favorite Christmas post by far. There’s something so homey and reassuring about pulling your chair up to the computer terminal and warming yourself by the fireplace.
thank you, mommy and daddy, for my new computer.
December 25th, 2006 at 10:51 amthank you, think progress, for this yule blog,we’re gonna have lots and lots of fun here.

December 25th, 2006 at 11:11 amMy hope for the coming New Year: Bush and Cheney are forced to resign, and the entire Bush clan flees to Paraguay into exile forever.
December 25th, 2006 at 11:32 amThank you for that inciteful trip to the center of Bush’s brain.

December 25th, 2006 at 11:41 amYes Marie I hope it happens for the Bush clan in 2007. Kind of hard to get in a cheery mood today with Bush and Cheney still ruling America!

I hadn’t heard of that movie before, but since Roger Ebert gave it 1 1/2 stars, I simply must see it. :)
