“The Bush administration has decided to propose listing the polar bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, putting the U.S. government on record as saying that global warming could drive one of the world’s most recognizable animals out of existence.”
Seven U.S. troops were killed in Iraq yesterday, raising this month’s death toll to 87. December is now the “second deadliest month of the year” for American troops.
Michael Wallace, a former aide to Sen. Trent Lott (R-MS), has “asked President Bush to withdraw his nomination” for a seat on the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. The withdrawal comes after the American Bar Association, “for the first time in almost a quarter-century, unanimously rated” Wallace to be “unqualified.”
The Pentagon may be preparing for escalation. Army Gen. John Abizaid has requested a “call-forward” force of 3,500 troops to be sent “into Kuwait to stand ready for use in Iraq.” “If we’re going to surge, this makes sense,” a senior defense official said.
Incoming Senate Foreign Relations committee chair Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) opposes the escalation strategy. “I totally oppose the surging of additional troops into Baghdad, and I think it is contrary to the overwhelming body of informed opinion, both people inside the administration and outside the administration,” Biden said.
In honor of the launch of its redesign on Jan. 2, 2007, The Wall Street Journal will be “free at newsstands nationwide.” “Nearly half a million copies will be free and The Wall Street Journal Online — normally a paid service — will also be free that day.”
“Ethiopian troops fought their way closer to the Somali capital of Mogadishu” yesterday, “pushing back militias loyal to the Islamic Courts movement” that controls most of Somalia. “U.N. officials warned of a humanitarian crisis in Somalia, while fears remained high that Ethiopia’s aggressive military campaign could have disastrous consequences not only for Somalia but across the Horn of Africa.”
The Ohio state Supreme Court “publicly reprimanded” Gov. Bob Taft (R-OH) yesterday “for his ethics violations in office, a black mark that will stay on his permanent record as an attorney.”
And finally: Does President Bush have secret powers? From a White House pool report: “After a dense morning fog cleared, President George W. Bush lifted off from Camp David with first lady Laura Bush for a weeklong trip to his Texas ranch after spending Christmas at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.”
What did we miss? Let us know in the comments section.
That’s reading a bit into it.
December 27th, 2006 at 11:47 amThe bush administration will never admit that global warming could drive polar bears out of existance. They’ll say, “It’s not global warming, it’s that other thing. You know, that thing that makes certain species go extinct.”
December 27th, 2006 at 11:54 am” . . . global warming could drive one of the world’s most recognizable animals out of existence.”
How can anyone recognize a polar bear. They all look alike to me. (pause for laughter.)

How so?
From the article:
The administration’s proposal — which was described by an Interior Department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity — stems from the fact that rising temperatures in the Arctic are shrinking the sea ice that polar bears need for hunting. The official insisted on anonymity because the department will submit the proposal today for publication in the Federal Register, after which it will be subject to public comment for 90 days.
December 27th, 2006 at 11:59 amAnother day of carnage in Iraq, but the Bush Regime does not care, so escalation will only make it worse and more US soldiers killed each month!
December 27th, 2006 at 12:00 pmExcellent work Bush. Surge troops into Iraq just in time for the large scale Sunni/Baathist backlash when Saddam gets executed.

To help protect this most recognizable species bush has decided to send an additional 20, 000 troops into Iraq… saying “if we don’t fight them there – the polar bears will have to fight them in the Artic Circleâ€â€¦ adding “you don’t want the polar bears to have to fight them there do you… well do you?â€
December 27th, 2006 at 12:14 pmSome folks will never admit that global warming exists, even as the oceans rise to swallow them up.
December 27th, 2006 at 12:29 pm“Seven U.S. troops were killed in Iraq yesterday, raising this month’s death toll to 87.” These deaths can be prevented if more American soldiers would emulate the example of those in the military who have said NO to the war machine, by stating through their actions that they will no longer participate in an illegal and immoral occupation. What is so astonishing is how so very few, if any, liberal blogs have focused attention upon the GI resistance movement that is taking place among military service personnel. The official estimate is that at least 8,000 to 10,000 have deserted and not returned to their units because they refuse to take part in the subjugation of the Iraqi people. That figure is certainly on the low end, since the government does not wish to publicize the discontent that is growing in the ranks of the U.S. military. But, again, the silence from the liberal blogs concerning this vital issue has been defeaning. Fortunately, this week’s issue of The Nation has an article which is devoted to this extremely important issue.

Global warming, whatever cause you attribute it to, is causing greater fragmentation in the Arctic Ice. Since bears rely on contiguous sheets of ice over water inhabited by their primary food source , seals, they can’t find food. Therefore, they are dying, essentially of starvation. Therefore, the bears are dying from the effects of global warming.
What alternative logic do you propose?

December 27th, 2006 at 12:41 pmRegarding the continued use of the word ’surge’ the Democrats keep falling into the Frank Lutz pitfalls, even after 25 years of seeing the word traps. George Lakoff isn’t recognized by the DNC, they would rather hire money grubbers like Carville and wack-jobs like the ‘evangelical’ advisors that are suddenly being given so much credit for the Dem victory in 06.
All prgressives should immediately begin using the word ‘escalate’ or any of its conjugations anytime they are confronted with the word ’surge in the context of the illegal Iraqi war.

December 27th, 2006 at 12:51 pmA “call forward” is a pretty good sign of the surge deployment. You can’t get into Iraq without one, at least not in the normal military movement of goods/personnel sense of “getting in.” (Ex army log guy here)
December 27th, 2006 at 12:52 pmHow come Holy Joe II can say it, and Clinton can’t?
December 27th, 2006 at 12:53 pmHappy to see that Biden finally sees the light after voting “yes” which gave power to Bush to engage this country in a war which will, undoubtedly, sink this country in all ways – global reputation, fiscally, and emotionally (people are totally disgusted!).
Also elated to see that the siteowner on this blog allows freedom of opinion – unlike some of the other left-wing blogs out there. C & L comes to mind immediately. I think Gogreen is right, refer to it as an escalation not a surge. A surge indicates a short term thing. However adding more troops won’t make be a short term solution.

December 27th, 2006 at 1:00 pm#30 Zooey,
I don’t think you’re losing your mind. For some reason my post about the Trent Lott story hasn’t appeared yet, either. It would be nice if their comment posting system had a way to e-mail you at the address you have to give them to tell you they’re not going to post something, instead of us waiting around to see if the delay (that comes and goes) was the reason we don’t see it. It might help reduce double-posts. But when you and I are paying for the bandwidth, we can decide who gets to post and who doesn’t.

As you know, “Muslims” aren’t any more homogenous than any other group. What the Ethiopians are doing is kicking ‘warlord’ ass. Islam is a religion of convenience for these people. if the predominant religion happened to have been Christianity in that area, they would still be warlords, and still be just as criminal. Would you then support them be cause they wern’t Muslim? Any religion is a useful vehicle for hiding criminal behavior, as history amply shows.
You know, while there are nothing but losers in the Iraq war (not counting Iran and Osama bin laden – way to go George) the group whose troubles i find the most ironic are the Iraqi Christian community. They have been driven out of Iraq in droves, and mostly into Syria, which despite the bush propaganda, is actually a secular country which is home to varied religions, and tolerates them all. The bushies only allow 500 immigration visas a year for Iraqis, based on the assumption that they wil all return to Iraq and live happily ever after in the near future. Th irony of course is that Fearless Leader’s loyal supporters have based their support for his course of action largely on the neo-con use of psuedo-religious hype and rhetoric that exhorts Christianity and Christian ‘values’. And yet the Iraqi Christians driven from their homes by the religious violence chimpy unleashed cannot find refuge in the US.
I would ask, as so many here and elsewhere have asked, by what standard is any of the chimp’s actions supportable? But it would be a rhetorical question, as there is no answer that can ever be supported by any reasoning person.
The article Larry from C references is quite good. And it explains why there is no answer to the rhetorical question, because any answer to it had to be conceived in the ’surreal’ world inhabited by Bush.

And then seven (7) more “troops” died. But, really, who cares? It’s not anyone that I know. My life isn’t affected at all. Just numbers really.
A crony gets rejected for not being “qualifiedâ€. The only thing newsworthy about this is that it is “newsâ€.
More cannon fodder and killers being sent to Iraq (via Kuwait). More numbers that don’t really matter. I mean, we don’t even get upset at 600,000 plus murdered Iraqis or $500,000,000,000 pissed away and stolen on this adventure so why should we even blink at numbers like 7, 87, or 3,500.
Biden says what he’s certain the people want to hear and then he will continue on with his own self-enriching agenda. The only news here is that this sleazeball keeps getting re-elected.
The Wall Street Journal is engaging in a marketing scheme that includes giving away free copies of their daily propaganda sheet. TP diligently provides the “free†publicity for them. How gracious. What next, the daily Wal-Mart specials?
Ethiopia decides to invade another country and kill a bunch of people. However, since the targets are “Muslims†then it is all okay and the reasoning is irrelevant. Heck, we are doing it in Iraq so it is not like we can say anything. Also, just more numbers.
The Ohio governor was NOT caught with a dead girl or live boy so all is just fine. The court, in all its wisdom, decides that it will be adequate punishment for him to have to wear a tie with a stain on it for the rest of his life. Ohioans celebrate the harsh fashion punishment by taking more hits from the crack pipe.
The “secret powers†thing I just don’t get. Not relevant. Not funny. But, the folks at TP put it in bold so it must be important to somebody.

Hey, Akbar! Bush is going to be opening enlistment up to foreigners! Now you can work from the inside to defeat America!
How do you say “Army Strong” in Arabic?
December 27th, 2006 at 3:26 pmMost people I know consider me pretty well informed. And most of them are dem/libs.
At least that’s what they say to his face, the poor dear.
December 27th, 2006 at 3:28 pmCynicon, if you are so well informed then you would know that there is no Iraq war. What would be your definition of “successful”?
December 27th, 2006 at 3:28 pmPolar bears are drowning, dumbass. They’re not happy. Only sociopathic Bush cultists seem to be happy about polar bears drowning.

According to the article they are starving due to lack of sea ice platforms. Which causes them to not be able to build up enough fat for the winter.
December 27th, 2006 at 3:29 pmAkbar, Muslims are attacking each other at greater numbers than the US so what makes your sorry ass think you will have any advantage over Europe. poor little troll.
December 27th, 2006 at 3:32 pm97 — I would define success as establishing a viable democracy in Iraq that no longer harbors and trains terrorists.
December 27th, 2006 at 3:37 pm#88
December 27th, 2006 at 3:41 pmI don’t take any word by anyone anymore. This is all ludicrous.
America will wake up (Not the 30 percent though…) and find everything that is dear to it destroyed. Just like the majority of Germans who where wandering in the rubble of the ‘1000 Year Reich’. America has been hijacked, there is no ‘War on Terror’ only a ‘War for Oil and Gas’ and of course America deserves Iraqi and Afghani Oil and Gas more than the ‘Rag Heads’ who are no match for Uncle Sam’s military.
Great job. But guess what, what goes around always comes around. Always. Nero didn’t make it, neither did Hitler or Mussolini or any other megalomaniac dictator and Bush won’t make it too. They will hang him like they hung Mussolini. In front of the White House. Because the pendulum will swing back. This is planet earth, not Planet Hollywood. There are about six billion inhabitants, how dare anyone to judge, rule,
punish or kill any human being for monetary gains.
Watch it coming. The pendulum.
Cynicon – I’m waiting to see if you can rise above “kicking muslim ass”. You are known by your comments – that comment may be strictly factual but it is still ignorant. I’ve heard more critical thinking in a Cleveland sports bar on a Sunday afternoon.
December 27th, 2006 at 3:42 pmWell now you are showing how uninformed you have been. There were no major terrorist bases in Iraq due to Saddam having an iron fist over his people. He didn’t trust Al Qiada and that has been publicly reported.
As for a democracy, how does one go about forcing a group of people to accept, run and maintain a democracy. The people have to want it and then have to work towards it. We can’t enforce it and I think you know that as well.
This same group of republicans were screaming when the previous adminstration was using troops elsewhere in the world. They didn’t want the US to be the world’s police. But now it’s ok. Doesn’t hold any water.
December 27th, 2006 at 3:45 pmA reminder that there will be a mass protest in DC on January 27th. See United for Peace and Justice website. Why do they always do these in the winter? :)
December 27th, 2006 at 3:49 pmTerry, I think I get it now. Just so you know, I don’t really think “kicking muslim ass” is the objective — not all muslims are bad. It’s just that almost all of the terrorists are radical muslims.
BTW, I’d like to see the non-radicalmuslims speak out against the radicals a little more… not holding my breath though
I bet there is lots of critical thinking and yelling in Cleveland sports bars on Sunday — the Browns kinda suck (now I’m the arrogant one — Patriots fan!)
December 27th, 2006 at 3:52 pmTHE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN, NOW CONGRESS MUST ACT.
On Saturday, Jan. 27th, people from every corner of the country will march on Washington, DC. Our message will be clear, our voice will be strong: End the war in Iraq, Bring all the troops home now! We urge you to join us!
On Mon., Jan. 29th, we will take our message directly to the new Congress during our lobby day.

That’s not entirely impossible. We had an unusually mild winter last year, and so far this winter is even warmer. It’s December, and we have had only one frost here in central NC, back in November. We have had multiple weeks of 50+ °F days, wth several over 60+, a few in the low 70s. The robins didn’t migrate this year.
December 27th, 2006 at 4:02 pmHmm – “not all muslims are bad”. That’s big of you. Eric Rudolph is a radical Christian so I guess your logic says we can still assume that not all Christians are bad because of that. I am relieved.
So is Ethiopia’s motive all religious then or not? I guess we could call it a ‘crusade’ then if it is… you know, a jihad, if you prefer Arabic that is.
December 27th, 2006 at 4:06 pmcynicon, now you won’t defend your being informed? You have yet to acknowledge there is no Iraq War. You still believe there were terrorist bases in Iraq and you think democracy is as easy to apply as a coat of paint. That can’t all be attributed to your being a Pat’s fan.
December 27th, 2006 at 4:09 pmCome to think of it – my next door neighbors are Christian – perhaps I need to get them on record about Eric Rudolph…todays as good a day as any I suppose… bye for now….

December 27th, 2006 at 4:14 pmHello…hello…is this thing working?
Holy cow I’m getting censored today by TP. Which is quite amusing in an ironic sort of way.
#105 Cynicon,
I see something that might be warping your perspective. You say that not all Muslims are bad, just the radical ones, and that you’d like to see non-radical Muslims speak out against the radical ones.
The statement cancels itself due to its false generalities. To prove this change “Muslim” to “Christian”, or “Republican” or “Homosexuals”. All of them work which renders the statement useless. If you quit generalizing terrorists and Muslims then you will begin to see that the problem is when people kill, terrorize, and oppress other people for ideological reaons. Unless it is Americans doing it, and then its okay somehow.
One other mistake, the Patriots suck! Go niners.
December 27th, 2006 at 4:18 pmSaddam urges Iraqis to unite against ‘invaders’
“The enemies of your country, the invaders and the Persians, have found your unity a barrier between you and those who are now ruling you. Therefore, they drove their hated wedge among you,” he said in a handwritten letter released by his lawyer today.

December 27th, 2006 at 4:38 pmI couldn’t agree with you more. When the armies of Jihad conquer this nation, our justice will be swift! Bush and his cronies will hang in front of the White House. The call to prayer will be heard National Cathedral!
Silly o’ Akbar, not that this is what I am condoning but if there were ever serious escalations with any group the US would use it’s nuclear weapons long before any Jihadists got close to our shores. Whether that’s justice or not, it will be more swift than what you’ve been believing
December 27th, 2006 at 4:44 pmI hate how things have become Christian vs. Muslim! I’m neither, so I sure do wish everyone who is would knock it off and come together to figure out what to do about all of our challenges!!!
Man, if there WAS some intelligent race watching us right now they’d be smart to just let us all perish at this rate.
December 27th, 2006 at 4:45 pm“BTW, I’d like to see the non-radicalmuslims speak out against the radicals a little more… not holding my breath though”
Maybe we could clean up our own back yard first. How about moderate christians speaking out against christian radicals. There’s a serious group of christians who want to abolish the constitution and establish a theocracy here. Sure, they’re a lunatic fringe, but I haven’t heard many christians speaking out against them. How about christian terrorists like McVey or Rudolph. I seem to recall a penguin coming on tv and announcing that McVey was in heaven because he had said the correct words before he was executed. That’s not taking a very strong stand against christian terrorism.
December 27th, 2006 at 4:49 pmActually, I guess I should included the Israelis in there too – they should knock off their provocations too! We currently have one little planet to live on. We need to freaking get our act together as a race! Put ALL of the religions aside.
Christians, Jews, Muslims – we’re all the same when viewed from above!
December 27th, 2006 at 4:50 pmDo as I try to do imagine your own personal circumstances different
1. / if your son/daughter married a Muslim would you disown that child ?
2. / If you see a Black man going out with a stunning White female
do you
A/ Get pissed of about it go home have a wank and become a racist
B/ Imagine your going out with Claudia Schiffer and your a millionaire and The Black man with The stunning White girl dont really matter Cause you have a good life anyway ?????
Most Trolls in Here their Circumstances are actually A –
most Liberals think B
December 27th, 2006 at 4:50 pm#126,
I don’t get this game. If the “stunning White female” isn’t missing or in a coma then I don’t give a sh*t.
Unless she’s not wearing any underwear, then it becomes relevant again.

December 27th, 2006 at 4:59 pmYou’re nation would have the balls to use Nukes! You’re own media wouldn’t let you. Also organizations allied with nus would organize protests and would welcome the Jihad with open arms. We’re a peaceful religion. Submitt to us and there’s peace. Resist us and there’s war.
The call to prayer will be hearsd from all cities and your grandchildren will be facing Mecca 5 times a day!
#125,
Actually from above you would be able to see the doilies that certain people of a certain faith wear on their head.
But, in seriousness, your point is valid. Racism and nationalism and dietyism (is that a word?) are the smokescreens used to obscure the most heinous of actions. Unfortunately, the USA is the biggest culprit of such in today’s world. How bizarre is that?
December 27th, 2006 at 5:05 pmYou’re nation would have the balls to use Nukes!
History, dumbass, proves you wrong.
Hiroshima or Nagasaki ring a bell, dipsh*t?
December 27th, 2006 at 5:09 pm“Unfortunately, the USA is the biggest culprit of such in today’s world.”
So Iran and Saudi Arabia are more tolerant nations?
December 27th, 2006 at 5:12 pm#128 Akbar,
Sounds great, come on over. You see, true Americans exhibit two qualities:
1. They welcome anyone to come over and share the land that we stole…er, acquired… from Native Americans.
2. They do not live in fear
Now, if you are looking to install a “theocracy” then you have to find a racist environment filled with undereducated folks who are easily manipulated through fear. I would suggest Texas.
December 27th, 2006 at 5:13 pmDieNowForPeace,
December 27th, 2006 at 5:14 pmThat nation no longer exists. The media is on our side. They will convince Americans to tell their leaders to surrender to the Ismaic peace!
Akbar, if the greatest industrial power Europe had ever known and the biggest industrial power Asia had ever known couldn’t make us all speak German or Japanese, I’m not giving you and your fellow villagers much of a chance.
December 27th, 2006 at 5:15 pmMy advice, Ignore Akbar, he is clearly a republican troll, baiting people. The chances of the US being conquered by muslim extremist, is about the same as me walking to the moon.
December 27th, 2006 at 5:15 pm128. Riiiggght Akbar. you’ve been drinking your urine again haven’t you. If any military action ever increased to a level close to your dilusional mind scramblings nuclear weapons would be used. I’m not saying I’m for or against that. But it would happen.
To just scream jihad does the world no good either. the muslim religion isn’t organized enough and if it were to ever get on a geopolitical scale it will cut it’s own throat. Sunni’s, Shia, Wahabists they’ll all want power and the radicals will kill each other just like we see in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere.
There won’t be any calls to prayer in any great number from this country. Not with nut jobs like you as spokesmen for Islam.
Your grandkids will have a better chance of eating a BBQ pork sandwhich and getting tattoos then mine bowing to Mecca.

I seem to remember Japan feeling the US was weak and ripe for the picking as well. I think people need to read history a bit closer.

Akbar, there will be McDonald’s and Walmarts opening next to Mecca. Taco Bells in Bahgdad and KFC’s in Tehran before NY City dropped. You don’t know New Yorkers very well.
Go ahead and remind the New Yorkers about your last attempt to make them drop (9/11) then come over here and try to take them.
I’m no fan of pushing our views on the rest of the world but we are THE superpower of the world and if we didn’t bow to communism or the Nazi’s or the Japanese we won’t be bowing (as bluedog49 put so well) to some villagers.
The Jihadist’s will be killing each other off faster than you can create new muslims. Now run along and learn how to type.
December 27th, 2006 at 5:26 pmAkbar – Thats the funniest impersonation of a muslim I have ever seen apart from Borat …. mind you ….you got people believing you .. your a white troll version of Ali-G

You’re a Neocon troll, wannabe Islamist, living out your dark little fantasy here?
No go learn to type, piss-ant juevenile LIAR.
December 27th, 2006 at 5:28 pmWhat I find amazing is how easily so many have been fooled into believing that the muslims are coming. I mean I guess you can’t bait with blacks anymore, and well the whole gay thing isn’t working, so let’s make everyone afraid of muslims. Witness how well it worked with our friend Akbar here. The guy has to be almost wetting his pants over the perceived threat.
December 27th, 2006 at 5:28 pm#138,
Hey, I’m just rooting for the team with the best looking cheerleaders. After seeing Lyndie England, well, I had to root for the Iraqis.
Your invasion plan is quite amusing in its ignorance, I must say. I know that you’ll find very courageous and heroic people in the northeast and that New Yorkers will eat you for lunch. If you feel the need to attack where we are weakest, then I suggest Crawford, TX.
Good luck.
December 27th, 2006 at 5:29 pmLook at what happened in Afghanistan after the Russians left. Talk about a mess.

This person must be the worst Muslim impersonator on the planet. Conflating a religion with an economic system? That’s a riot… LOL
Also, I would be interested to find out how Muslims control half of the cities in France, when thet make up less than 10% of the population in that country. If they are that crafty, maybe they deserve to take over the world after all ;-)
December 27th, 2006 at 5:36 pmI know that you’ll find very courageous and heroic people in the northeast and that New Yorkers will eat you for lunch.
You bet your ass!
December 27th, 2006 at 5:36 pm9/11 was a glorious day! the next one America, led by your media will surrender. Look at the media clamoring for talks with Iran. While my Persian brothers are plotting for a glorious war against the Big and Little Satan. When we wipe Israel off the map and take over Europe you will submitt. Look at France, they don’t dare enter the French cities we control!
December 27th, 2006 at 5:38 pmAkbar go to bed its late and you have school in the morning
December 27th, 2006 at 5:38 pmAkbar, Ahmadinejad can’t even take care of his own country. He was humiliated in the last elections and now they are talking to the UN about what steps they need to take to have sanctions lifted. And France? You use France as an example? You really should do your homework. France hasn’t been too high on our list for awhile and they change govt’s just slightly less than you bend to mecca.
To all, of course I realize this pissant is a troll having fun at his attempt to show the jihadis are coming. It’s still fun.

December 27th, 2006 at 5:47 pmIt’s pretty weak stuff you’ve got there, Vinnie (aka Akbar). And, it’s just plain silly. I’m sure you’ll keep playing this stupid little act for a while, anyway.
This is apparently all that the righties have left. It’s all about trying to scare everyone (yes, again) with tales of Muslim hordes streaming across…the ocean? Or are they coming by way of Mexico? Whatever. We’re going to see an onslaught of books, graphic novels, comic books, movies, video games, etc. from right-wingers who are trying desperately to win back control of the country through mass paranoia. So far, it doesn’t seem to be taking hold, so it’s still amusing to watch.
December 27th, 2006 at 5:57 pmand just for the fun of it
Akbar Ali G – dont forget the first terrorists in the world were the Yanks . when fighting for independence they would not come out the woods to face the British head on – they invented Insurgency ……….and won
The first country in the world to accept their independence was Morrocco I beleive

It’s actually sort of fun to watch. Akbar/vinnie actually thinks Muslims are in this big global conspiracy to take over the world, Elders of Zion-style.
Of course, rightwingers cannot tell the difference between a religious belief and an economic system, i.e., Islam vs Capitalism (?), nor the difference between Arabs and Hispanics -which is why their nightmares of an Islamic invasion almost invariably involve a crossing into the US from Mexico.
What’s Spanish for “the Muslims are coming”? ;-)
December 27th, 2006 at 6:07 pm#160, Redman, you’re being stupid, too. Don’t ever question our patriotism, on this site, or in NY and the Northeast. We’re the ones who are trying to defend the U.S. Constitution, not disembowel it like your President is trying to do.

December 27th, 2006 at 6:19 pmWell, it was fun while it lasted. Whoever the fear mongering coward “Akbar” is really goes to show how pathetic that crowd has become. They just keep trying to stir up hate and fear in order to advance an agenda of murder and oppression. Same tired product, just new packaging.
Fear what you don’t understand, hate diversity, and invoke a god to explain away your ignorance and cowardice. That’s the Bush mantra and is the basis for our current foreign policy. The good news, I feel, is that Americans are waking up to this reality. The bad news is that we haven’t reined in the fools and warmongers yet to stop the murders occurring in our name. The great news is that January is just about here and we have the numbers and the representation to fix this mess.
And that is what “Akbar”, the neocons, and the 30 percenters are afraid of. The poor wittle fellas.

December 27th, 2006 at 6:36 pmIt’s you guys and your media allies that’re encouraging fools like Akbar. It’s funny the Thugslike Al-Qaeda or Iran use the same talking points as Keith Olbermann and Howard Dean. As for you guys having the numbers, Most of the Democrats from the Midwest are anti Islamic. So Dems from the midwest are different that you clowns in NY. You guys had the 2 towers knocked down, yest you cry tolerance. what a bunch of fools you clowns are.
By the way, I like Hispanic immigration. Better to learn Spanish than put a rag on my head and bow to Mecca 5 times. The more Hispanics that come the better. The border we should seal is with Canada. Once the Muslims takes over there that’s where the invasion will come.
Since I don’t take acid, I’d have to assume the former.

Your hate is a disturbing thing to see and your generalizations are absurd, especially the “anti-islamic” projection that you try to blame on “Democrats from the Midwest”.
Let me explain the America that I live in. We welcome diversity. We relish freedom. We do not fear the unknown, but rather embrace the challenge. And we do not “hate”.
I feel bad for you that you live in a state of fear, denial, and servitude. Your choice, though, and it is unreasonable to expect everyone to want to join you.
December 27th, 2006 at 6:49 pmSeriously, you have to wonder where some of these morons get their delusions. I mean really. “Free america” and “islamic america”???!!! Where does someone even come up with stuff like that?
December 27th, 2006 at 6:49 pmPuh-leeze! Can we ignore the trolls. Their inciteful comments are distractions; they tempt us to stoop to their level.
December 27th, 2006 at 6:51 pmTwo of them today are so ignorant they don’t deserve a reply.
They don’t even recognize their own fascism and fanaticism – or maybe they do and they want to rile us.
I think Karl Rove would insist on a bit more cleverness and quality in his trolls. These ones are just pathetic.
December 27th, 2006 at 6:52 pmThat is the truly sad thing Jay, he doesn’t find them, or pay them. These are the hard core 30% who will support bush even if he sodomized a puppy on the white house lawn. They would say it is god’s will, and the puppy deserved it.
December 27th, 2006 at 6:53 pm#183 Redman:
First, what media allies? Second, in what way are us ‘guys’ encouraging white republican trolls pretending to be a Muslim? Third, what ‘talking points’ do al-Qaeda or Iran supposedly have in common with Keith Olbermann and Howard Dean? Quote just one. Fourth, where’s your proof that “most of the Democrats from the Midwest are anti-Islamic? Link, please.
You guys had the 2 towers knocked down, yest you cry tolerance. what a bunch of fools you clowns are. Okay, I understand, despite the poor writing, that you are NOT saying that New Yorkers had the 2 towers knocked down deliberately. And, yes, for the most part, New Yorkers are tolerant rather than, what, war-mongering? Is there a problem with that? Do you REALLY believe that our country will ever be overwhelmed by Muslims to the point where everyone will be bowing to Mecca? If that’s not a strawman argument, then you’re even stupider than I was first led to believe.

Methinks it’s the same troll, looking to bait someone and talking to himself to do so. I thought we had Dumb, Dumber, and Dumberer in our hands, but I suspect it’s just one stinking troll. Lunacy seems to be common currency in Wingnutia.
December 27th, 2006 at 7:04 pmOlbermann, Howard Dean and Iran all say that the US is evail and that we ust negotiate with them.
December 27th, 2006 at 7:05 pmFor the most part NYers are Pro-Islamic and anti-Chriatian. Even though Muslims destroyed the twin towers they support the Jihadists and hope for an American defeat.
I know, I used to live there.
As for the Midwest Democrats being anti-Islamic. They are. I’ve met Dems from Michigan and they wish Dearborn could be wiped off the map. See unlike people from the Notheast Muslims are hated in this country. In fact I bet 60% of people hate Muslims. Want to wager. As far as I’m concern Al-Qaeda or Iran can have that rotten city. that way we wouldn’t have to deal with the Commie media.
Sorry, Marie, I had to get in that one response. Now I have to head home.
Enjoy your evening, everyone!

I just realize how akward the whole situation really is. The US is governed by people who are so out of touch that the majority in this country completely disapproves of their lousy and dangerous performances. The majority of the global population believes that America the great is headed by the worst moron in history. And as long as they have nuclear weapons they can express their opinion without endangering their own existence. This ‘leader ship’ is sinking and it feels like the wrong and totally incompetent people are running the company you are working for. You can see how everything goes down the drain but the shareholders keep on clinging to the clown that promises them the biggest dividend. It’s the feeling of nobody really takes Bush and his ‘dumbpostels’ serious any more. Everybody is just shaking their head, asking: Are we going out of Iraq now, or what? A lousy movie copied from ‘The Marx Brothers At The Opera’. Of course the ‘Religious Right Brothers At The Capitol’ is no match compared to Groucho who would outsmart Bush by light years. Unfortunately it’s not funny that Americans are dying for nothing, even though those mentally incapacitated right wing trolls here seem to have traditionally no problem with that. In some regards it would have been better to ‘fight ‘em here’, giving Karma a chance to correct the biased Morony of the religious right wing movement through extermination.
December 27th, 2006 at 7:51 pmWill Mohammed Ali be deported or exterminated? How about Representative Keith Ellison. It seems to me that it might get a little dicey trying to exterminate a member of the House of Representatives. Have you thought this plan through, Redman?
December 27th, 2006 at 7:51 pmOk…I just got in and haven’t read the comments…but I WANT TO FRIKKIN’ SCREAM!!!

For some reason I believe the wisdom comes from ‘V for Vendetta’. When the girl gets into the fake prison cell and
December 27th, 2006 at 8:23 pm‘V’ makes her loose her fears.
All religion is based on fear. I personally believe exclusively in Karma. There is nothing to be afraid of because everything is interconnected with everything else. But I do have great concerns for the well being of the ‘innocent’. Souls that did nothing else but being at the ‘wrong’ place at the ‘wrong’ time. What did all those innocent Iraqis that died had to do with our greed, besides their oil.
Have You ever heard of ‘Nam Myoho Renge Kyo’? That is the most unique and effective way to ‘accelerate’ Karma. It is very powerful and always gives me my love and compassion back. I am nowhere close of being convinced to be a good human being, but I do know that I don’t go around and kill innocent people or approve of anybody doing it. Patience is something that is wearing thin with me these days…
If I would be © ‘King Of America’, we would have a better world. (Even though at this time many people can proclaim the same…) ;-)

December 27th, 2006 at 8:35 pmItsJustKarma,
I just re-watched V for Vendetta recently, and identified closely with Evey. I have faced my fears — not through torture — and have become more free than I could have imagined.
I believe Karma exists, both good and bad. And Karma always has her way.
I am not familiar with Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, but will do some reading. I’m not sure I would wish Karma to be accelerated, as it may be accelerated in my own life.
You might be interested in reading about Om Mani Padme Hum, a mantra in Tibetan Buddhism.

“Any serious effort at transformation must occur within the larger framework of U.S. national security strategy, military missions and defense budgets. The United States cannot simply declare a “strategic pause†while experimenting with new technologies and operational concepts. Nor can it choose to pursue a transformation strategy that would decouple American and allied interests. A transformation strategy that solely pursued capabilities for projecting force from the United States, for example, and sacrificed forward basing and presence, would be at odds with larger American policy goals and would trouble American allies. Further, the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event – like a new Pearl Harbor.” (emphasis added)

We’ve got a lot of industry shills in appointed positions in the FDA, FCC, EPA, Interior, Mine Safety and Health Administration, etc. and they’re all about weakening regulations for the corporate interests that used to write their paychecks. I hope that there’s some way the Dems in the new Congress can start shoving these creeps out of there. Or, if nothing else, start dragging them in front of the cameras and microphones and making them give sworn testimony about what they’re doing and who it’s meant to benefit.

Zooey’s right! Please open up another thread (or something) so we don’t have so much information to download each time we hit refresh. Call it, “What’s On Your Mind?”, “Got Progress?”, “OpenFast” or something. ANYTHING!

Pay HOMAGE to him? No offense, Lindsay, but he was just a human being.
December 28th, 2006 at 12:25 pmI would like a “Talk Shit” thread. I like to do that.
December 28th, 2006 at 1:28 pmHow about a “spread wide open” thread? Or a “Come and get some” thread, or a “Leave it alone and let it coagulate” thread? Or “It’s just a flesh wound” thread. Or a “Hormonal” thread.
December 28th, 2006 at 1:32 pmAll the men would be jamming up the “Hormonal” thread. :)

Depends on the time of the month. The women that hang around together in here are probably getting on the same cycle. Heh. (just kidding, I know you have to physically be around the other women to syncronize with them)
December 28th, 2006 at 1:43 pmA “Gale Norton” thread just isn’t the same. Unless it leads to discussions about all the other corrupt people put into this administration for the sole purpose of thwarting the will of the people in favor of the interests of corporations.
December 28th, 2006 at 1:58 pmYeah Wayne, Gale Norton is just stinking up the place. :P
December 28th, 2006 at 2:02 pmI agree – Gale Norton is awful (especially for the environment)? There’s a no-brainer!
At least Bruce Babbitt was trying to reduce strip mining. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gale Norton showed the mining companies how to strip mine faster.
Let’s talk about eating cloned meat. How many copies of the animals will they be allowed to make. Can they make a copy of a copy and sell THAT to us without labeling? You know how a photocopy of a photocopy looks all fuzzy?
December 28th, 2006 at 2:31 pmYou know how a photocopy of a photocopy looks all fuzzy?
Tastes “fuzzy”, too!
December 28th, 2006 at 2:35 pmWayne – ewwwwww, lol – thanks for making me laugh about something that worries me so much!
