broke from an ice shelf in Canada’s far north and could wreak havoc if it starts to float westward toward oil-drilling regions and shipping lanes next summer.” It was the “largest such break in nearly three decades,” and global warming “likely played a role.”
I posted this story yesterday, cool.

December 30th, 2006 at 4:27 pmthis story has been up at C&L all day...
so, i guess it's good that it's a slow news day...
kinda like when i turn on the today show each morning and, when they have nothing but gossip those first 10 minutes, i breath a sigh of relief...
but hey, john edwards announced he is running for president in 08... !
December 30th, 2006 at 4:27 pmno story about that here at TP... odd...
I think the title of this TP post should be rephrased just a bit. Not much, but just a bit. Maybe the new title could be:
"A chunk of ice bigger than the area of COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS............."
To the Bush administration, a chunk of ice bigger than the area of Manhattan is NOT alarming. Heck no! Manhattan is solidly Democratic, and Manhattan is Hillary Clinton territory.
To the Bush administration, a chunk of ice bigger than the area of COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS would be very, very alarming. Daddy Bush's presidential library is located in College Station, and the percentage of Democrats in College Station is: .0000000001%.

I was working an oil well just outside College Station on election day 1992. The only TV station in town (manned solely by Aggies) called the election for GHW Bush based upon their exit polling at the local mall, where it seemed the only people they interviewed were white women getting back in their Suburbans and Beemers. Very amusing.
December 30th, 2006 at 6:20 pmSee this is proof that polar bears aren't going extinct; it's all their weight that caused the ice to break. (sarcasm off)
December 30th, 2006 at 6:23 pmIf that ice chunk was the largest break in 30 years, did global warming cause the last ice break 30 years ago? Not during a Dem Congress, surely!
December 30th, 2006 at 7:02 pm#6 Katy
It is odd that there's no mention of John Edwards campaign announcement here at TP. Or maybe it's not odd.
I heard one quotable Edwards statment when he said (not verbatim) .. "it's time for America to be patriotic about something more than just war..."
I thought that was a reputable statement, compared to the usual drivel put forth by all the other Dem candidates.
He's also calling for troop withdrawal - 50 to 60k - that's more than the average Democratic bear

*****Dear Katy - John Edwards is a white, Christian male who is running against "prog - approved" Obama and Hillary. The Nation online had a charming little piece about Edwards, noting what a disappointment he is regarding "progressive politics" but "he is improving slightly." In short, while The Nation LOVED the tone (divisive) of Edwards "two Americas" harangue, he is not LEFT enough. Frankly I think its a shame Dennis Kucinich doesn't get more support for his campaign......an excellent prog specimen
December 30th, 2006 at 7:34 pmAnyone who thinks the Nation magazine represents grassroots progressivism is not very bright or doesn't read much. The Nation magazine represents wealthy Dems who like to play at being progressive. And some writers at the Nation are CIA-types like Marc Cooper.
Dennis Kucinich is just a stalking horse for the Democratic elites. At the last minute he disappears and turns his supporters over to the politicos. Kucinich had his chance last time and he dropped the ball big time.

December 30th, 2006 at 8:00 pmThis is more accurate Mitey Coprolite:
John Edwards is a white, Christian male who is running [in addition to] [Barack] Obama and Hillary [Clinton].
You're welcome.
December 30th, 2006 at 8:15 pmfor the record, aphro - i absolutely adore obama and wish he COULD run for president in 08... but, there are still too many racists and bigots in this country and i'm afraid that unfortunate ailment will prevent his election... not sure, just a hunch...
and so, this is my solution: i really like the things edwards stands for and he deserves a chance on his own (after kerry screwed him over by not fighting for a vote count) so my dream ticket for 08 is................
EDWARDS - OBAMA.
...
then, after 8 years the country will have recuperated from the damage of bushco and will be showing positive signs of progressive leadership under EDWARDS-OBAMA, that we ALL will gladly give OBAMA his due and elect him to carry on the program... maybe even give hillary her chance as VP... but i DO want OBAMA to be my president some day...
and, with al gore doing what he does best, this global warming problem will be taken care of as best as it can... he will surely, and deservedly, have a cabinet position...

please excuse my not addressing you... that last post went out to any and all, but aphro was addressed because she brought up OBAMA, a favorite subject of mine...
but it surely is odd that edwards' announcement was not mentioned here... but, what do YOU mean "maybe it's not odd"?
December 30th, 2006 at 8:19 pmRe: #14 *****Dear ChildrenLir - Of course the Nation is a tool of wealthy Lefty's (ala trust fund baby, Katrina vandenHeuvel).) Many 1930's Communistas were guilt racked Leftists, too. (throw in Union Collective types and it's pretty much a wash.) So what? On THE issues, the Nation agrees with 99% Prog talking points.

Thank you for confirming, Sponge, your lunacy. (I had an inkling after the truck/blood wish on the other thread - you are one twisted sister.) Joe Lieberman has a 90% liberal approved voting record - but you show how people must NEVER stray from the liberal plantation. Are you always soooo intolerant? What happened, did you not get something you had your

Pretty much a wash? You obviously don't know what that expression means. It means the total is O. Everything evens out. Nothing in your statement even relates to zeroing out.
Try using words and phrases that you understand when you try to express yourself. Otherwise don't waste people's time.
And when you talk about Lieberman being a liberal, you're just giving liberal the same dirty name it's had for the past 20years or so.
Lieberman is in the control of AIPAC as are many of the Dems and Republicans. Lieberman is a fraud and won't get very far. People who lie and cheat and pretend only get so far, and then they fail because they have no substance. Eventually the money runs out.

Are you thinking of the Komodo Dragon? It bites its prey, waits for it to die from the infection, and then moves in for some juicy rot-infested meat. Yum.

I've never had the distinct honor of seeing the wonderful city of College Station. Hopefully, once before I die. It would be so tragic if I left this world without bonding with College Station. However, I do love Austin.
Well, at least the polling was done at a mall. Things could have been worse. Polling at a fundamentalist church would be much, much, much worse.

Woman aged 67 gives birth to twins in Spain to become world's oldest mother
The Associated Press
Published: December 30, 2006
MADRID, Spain: A 67-year-old Spanish woman became the world's oldest mother after she gave birth to twins in the northern city of Barcelona on Saturday, a hospital official said.
The woman, whose identity has not been revealed by Sant Pau hospital, gave birth by caesarian section on Saturday having previously undergone in vitro fertilization in the United States, according to the national news agency EFE.
Originally from the southern region of Andalucia, the new mother chose the Barcelona hospital because it specializes in high-risk births.
The mother and twins are all doing well though the babies are both in incubators, a hospital spokeswoman said. The hospital did not reveal the gender of the twins.
The previous holder of the oldest mother record was 66-year-old Romanian citizen Adriana Iliescu who gave birth to baby Eliza Maria in Jan. 2005.

Left "IS" right. You just simply "LEFT" out "IS." Certainly, we all now right politics is not right. Left politics is right.

Hell, hang the expense. Send Inhofe, Drudge, and Crichton too. With all that hot air maybe they can melt the thing.

Ever heard of ethanol as an alternative form of fuel, Mightette? Brazil, for one, a country generally regarded as not as advanced as the USA, has been taking the lead in developing it as a cleaner form of fuel. Also in case you haven't heard, petroleum is a finite resource.
