“A chunk of ice bigger than the area of Manhattan
broke from an ice shelf in Canada’s far north and could wreak havoc if it starts to float westward toward oil-drilling regions and shipping lanes next summer.” It was the “largest such break in nearly three decades,” and global warming “likely played a role.”

I think the title of this TP post should be rephrased just a bit. Not much, but just a bit. Maybe the new title could be:
"A chunk of ice bigger than the area of COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS............."
To the Bush administration, a chunk of ice bigger than the area of Manhattan is NOT alarming. Heck no! Manhattan is solidly Democratic, and Manhattan is Hillary Clinton territory.
To the Bush administration, a chunk of ice bigger than the area of COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS would be very, very alarming. Daddy Bush's presidential library is located in College Station, and the percentage of Democrats in College Station is: .0000000001%.

I was working an oil well just outside College Station on election day 1992. The only TV station in town (manned solely by Aggies) called the election for GHW Bush based upon their exit polling at the local mall, where it seemed the only people they interviewed were white women getting back in their Suburbans and Beemers. Very amusing.

It is odd that there's no mention of John Edwards campaign announcement here at TP. Or maybe it's not odd.
I heard one quotable Edwards statment when he said (not verbatim) .. "it's time for America to be patriotic about something more than just war..."
I thought that was a reputable statement, compared to the usual drivel put forth by all the other Dem candidates.
He's also calling for troop withdrawal - 50 to 60k - that's more than the average Democratic bear

*****Dear Katy - John Edwards is a white, Christian male who is running against "prog - approved" Obama and Hillary. The Nation online had a charming little piece about Edwards, noting what a disappointment he is regarding "progressive politics" but "he is improving slightly." In short, while The Nation LOVED the tone (divisive) of Edwards "two Americas" harangue, he is not LEFT enough. Frankly I think its a shame Dennis Kucinich doesn't get more support for his campaign......an excellent prog specimen

Dennis Kucinich is just a stalking horse for the Democratic elites. At the last minute he disappears and turns his supporters over to the politicos. Kucinich had his chance last time and he dropped the ball big time.

and so, this is my solution: i really like the things edwards stands for and he deserves a chance on his own (after kerry screwed him over by not fighting for a vote count) so my dream ticket for 08 is................
EDWARDS - OBAMA.

then, after 8 years the country will have recuperated from the damage of bushco and will be showing positive signs of progressive leadership under EDWARDS-OBAMA, that we ALL will gladly give OBAMA his due and elect him to carry on the program... maybe even give hillary her chance as VP... but i DO want OBAMA to be my president some day...
and, with al gore doing what he does best, this global warming problem will be taken care of as best as it can... he will surely, and deservedly, have a cabinet position...

The woman, whose identity has not been revealed by Sant Pau hospital, gave birth by caesarian section on Saturday having previously undergone in vitro fertilization in the United States, according to the national news agency EFE.
Originally from the southern region of Andalucia, the new mother chose the Barcelona hospital because it specializes in high-risk births.
The mother and twins are all doing well though the babies are both in incubators, a hospital spokeswoman said. The hospital did not reveal the gender of the twins.
The previous holder of the oldest mother record was 66-year-old Romanian citizen Adriana Iliescu who gave birth to baby Eliza Maria in Jan. 2005.

Ever heard of ethanol as an alternative form of fuel, Mightette? Brazil, for one, a country generally regarded as not as advanced as the USA, has been taking the lead in developing it as a cleaner form of fuel. Also in case you haven't heard, petroleum is a finite resource.

OPEC membership includes Venezuela, Nigeria and Indonesia. I don't think camel-riding was ever big in those countries.
