The end of “January junkets.”

The end of “January junkets.”

“The January junket to warmer climates — a postholiday tradition of sorts for some members of Congress — could be headed to the wayside. An accelerated work schedule set up by the new Democratic leadership has put a halt on many January excursions funded by lobbyists.”

oh don’t worry….. all those wonderful perks are just temporarily
on hold. just remember all members in 1994/1995 got silk covered
chairs at a tune of $25,000 each

oh yeh…. all the wonderful government services we all get for
out of 100% earnings, they get half and we get half.

and how do the people get repaid, well for starters every u.s. citizen
owes $60,000 interest each and a long life of being a servants for
the city in the u.s. with the highest criminal activity – washington d.c.

just give it a year, remember how digusted the american people
    were in year 1998 – 1999 … enough to make you **** :(

Let’s see how many day’s they all work now…..And are they in for another $3,100.00 pay increase….I think they should be paid like piece worker’s…..So much for each good thing they accomplish and deducted for screw up’s……Blessings

  5. Rick Brannon says:

perhaps i can go on a january junket?

  6. WaltTheMan says:

    #6 – Rick Brannon,
Be careful what you wish for – as a private citizen, you would be taxed at the full cost of the trip, unlike members of Congress who pay taxes based on the cost of a business class ticket plus deducting the actual costs of meals and lodging.

  7. Tom3 says:

Congress should stop ALL junkets and kick the lobbyists off the Hill. Hell, the entire K Street gang should be rounded up and put in prison.

We need a Congress that does an honest days work, for a change.

And they need to kick Chimpy in the nads.

  8. Juan C says:

I thought work was the most important activity in a capitalistic system /sarcasm

Well, look on the plus side, Congress Critters…

With all this global warming going on, a ‘junket to warmer climates’ is no longer necessary.

  12. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party says:

    Party’s over.

Poor Republicans will have to work because of Democrats’ new policies.

  13. Jay Randal says:

I have no problem if Sen. Lieberman and Sen. McCain went on vacations and never returned from their trips. Send them to Siberia, Russia > bon voyage boys > lol.

  14. JPark says:

Does that mean Congress might have to work during the winter??? It can’t be…while everybody else (from their housekeeper on up to their cook) is off skiing Vail??? What has the world come to?

  15. John Gilpins says:

For a select few, Club Med may not be in their junket vacation future but CLUB FED is. Orange jump suits will be be replacing Bermuda shorts.

  16. Zooey says:

    John,

Anything to cover up those skinny hairy white legs with the black socks and orthopedic sandals.

    Ugh!

Asscloowns of the Week #55 is up, with 11 instead of the usual 10. Enjoy.

  18. John Gilpins says:

    Zooey,

I suppose some FAT CATS are skinny?

Of course, we can’t see their legs. Maybe Dennis Hastert does have skinny legs.

One thing is for sure: ALL OF THESE FAT CATS WON’T HAVE SKINNY PENSIONS.

    John

the greenfield comparison was obama to amadinejad (sp?) – no tie, casual jacket… really lame…

  23. Marie says:

#25, Actually katy, it occurred on CNN Situation Room – but TP deleted my post.

  24. katy says:

    well, can’t have that… let’s try again:

CNN asks ‘Where’s Obama?’ in segment on Bin Laden
    RAW STORY
    Published: Monday January 1, 2007

A Monday night broadcast of CNN’s Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer confused America’s “number one enemy” with one of America’s most popular senators, RAW STORY has learned.

During a January 1st broadcast of Wolf Blitzer’s nightly news program, a pre-commercial preview of the show’s next segment included a story on the hunt for Al Qaeda’s leadership. Over a photo of Osama Bin Laden and his second-in-command Ayman Al-Zawahiri, Blitzer stated, according to the transcript, “Plus, a new year, but the same mission. Will 2007 bring any new changes in the hunt for Osama bin Laden?”

But instead of asking “Where’s Osama?” the graphic over the two Islamists read “Where’s Obama?” referencing the surname of popular Illinois Democrat Senator Barack Obama.

Not exactly, according to this Post article.

House Democrats boast that their proposed ethics legislation will ban travel provided by lobbying organizations to lawmakers. Don’t believe it.

Maneuvering by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee and others has opened a gaping loophole in the bill. Lobbies such as AIPAC and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have their own nonprofit foundations, which will still be allowed to underwrite congressional junkets under the new rules.

Watch for more lobbying groups to set up their own “non-lobbying” foundation affiliates as a result.

  26. SKdeA says:

I could use a week in a warm climate myself… only way to shake this bug. Think I can use the one that my Congresswoman has too many ethics to take?

  28. JIMBO says:

Poor widdle Repuklicans, they gonna have their widdle kickbacks and free junkets taken away by the big, bad Democrats.

BOO HOO BOO HOO HOO HOO HOO. bOO HOO HOO HA HOO HA HA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA!

Suck it up, Repuklicans. Pelosi and Reid are taking your sorry asses to work. You don’t like it, quit.
