Pat Michaels is a moron and has no idea about geochemistry, weather patters, or how to comb his hair. Global warming DOES cause freezing in some areas and the Northeast United States, England, and Europe will soon discover that this is so. I do not call "global warming" global warming, because it leaves an open invitation for idiots like Pat Michaels to say stupid things like "if you think putting hot water in an ice cube tray, it freezes faster...." etc etc etc.....I call what is happening global climate change, whether human caused or not, it is happening. The freezing occurs because of the pattern of circulation in our oceans. Currently a flow of warm water goes north up the Atlantic toward Englad and warms the coastal regions of North America and Europe. This flow of warm water is becoming disrupted and it will effect climate in those norther regions. I wish Pat would shut his mouth and open a book.

This is an old thread but I came across it and just had to respond to Meteorologist. Are you kidding? Do you live in Denver? Do you realize that Denver has NOT warmed in the past 50 years, and recent (10 years) changes are due to placement of the official weather gauge from Stapelton to DIA. Wow, get a grip. Weather goes in cycles. Remember the 60s (wet, cold), 70s (dry, hot), 80s (wet cold), 90s (dry hot)? Those who think Global Warming is real are the same people who think Al Gore is a scientist. Wait a few years and all of you will be screaming about the next ice age.

I don't what everyone is all buzzing about. Pat Michaels is firmly on record agreeing that (1) the earth is warming and (2) humans are contributing so he is clearly not denying global warming.

Also, in this talk, he says, rather clumsily, that the Denver area has warmed (in the last 50 years or so) but the east has not but the perception, due to this winter, is the opposite.

This is all true and not at all controversial. You folks need to pay attention to facts and stop hating people just because you perceive they disagree with you.

Yeah bcause it NEVER snows in the northeast -- we have no idea what Denver feels like.

If this brainchild were actually thinking about his argument it would make more sense to argue that we were skeptical of global warming bcause its always so freakin cold in the northeast.

Lame argument.

In Michaels statement it is obvious he doesn't understand what Global Warming is - if you don't understand how Global Warming effects the environment and why we are experiencing extreme hot and cold weather then Al Gores "An Inconvenient Truth" clearly explains the cause and effect in laymans terms. It also paints a clear picture on what to expect within our own life times and backs it with science. He has a site http://www.climatecrisis.net

If you do understand what Global Warming is and you want to help reduce it's effects check out http://www.terrapass.com.

So, a couple of weeks ago I'm at my parents house...the whole family is there....and let's just say, in my family I am basically a dot of blue in a sea of red....anyway....one person, let's call him...uhh...Seth (because that is his name) said that he finally saw An Inconvenient Truth. My brother Mark said, "You know that's a bunch of lies, don't you?" (Yes, seriously, he said that) A discussion ensued. My nephew, just 10 years younger than me said, "Can I just say that I really don't mind this global warming thing, it's been really nice weather lately." Seriously. I really hope he was just trying to lighten the mood. I REALLY hope that. Good grief, Charlie Brown.

[...] Somehow–either through apathy, waning interest, or sheer disgust with the way this military operation has unfolded–it was difficult to find coverage of this disturbing new development in the media. While Fox News was too busy trying to hype up global warming as a liberal New England conspiracy and devoting time to the ‘news’ of teacher sex scandals, CNN continued their round the clock coverage of President Ford’s memorial services. MSNBC is to be commended for giving the issue ample time, most notably during Keith Olbermann’s excellent Special Comment but also on other shows like Scarborough Country (hosted, it’s worth noting, by a former Republican Congressman). The fact that Bush’s plan was first reported by a foreign news agency, even one as well credentialed as the BBC, speaks volumes about our country’s increasing disengagement with the folly in Iraq.
Oh, yeah. I gonna ask these guys about science. These guys who think that the Grand Canyon was created by Noah's flood, that all the animals were saved 2 by 2 on an ark, and that zygotes are indistinguishable from babies...

And why should we be surprised at anything they distort and ignore for their own benefit? Bushco and Faux Nooz have sold themselves so far down the river, they couldn't find their way back to reality with a GPS compass and God in the lead.

As Chris Mooney has pointed out in his book "The Republican War on Science", these people are not climate skeptics, they are climate contrarians who ignore or distort well established scientific discoveries.

Warm air is capable of holding more moisture than cooler air. These storms dumped a lot of rain ahead of the cold front that dumped the snow on Denver. Even that is not proof of global warming though because individual storms mean nothing. Locally we received our first measurable snow on December 31st. The previous record for latest measurable snow was December 23rd. All this does is prove that weather patterns were different.

It is only when you look at the complete body of evidence that conclusions can be drawn. That shows that weather patterns work in cycles but that a gradual warming can be measured within those cycles. The proof is not definitive but it is strongly suggestive.
