You know, it might be more efficient to just list all those who are actually in favor of escalation.

On a more serious note, how long before the troops start acting on the strength of their convictions, and start deserting en masse?

  4. geoman77 says:

I don’t understand why the troops on the ground wouldn’t want more people to join them, it would certainly spread the target pool and increase statistically their individual chances of survival.

Oh, maybe they have consciences and don’t want more people to have to go through what they are going through. Unlike the administration that chose to send them….

Trip, I read an article a couple of month’s ago that over 40,000 are AWOL…Think it may have been truthout…..I would be AWOL over this war as well, not legal, not just and no end insight.. As BnF told me yesterday, Impeacheness is the answer…Blessings

Its hard to imagine thing getting any worse in the region, yet somehow, something deep inside me feels that worse is exactly where conditions are going in the region.

  7. TripMaster Monkey says:

    Sharon,

    40,000? Wow…that’s more than I heard.

As things continue to deteriorate, (especially as we’ve just managed to make Saddam Hussein into a martyr, for Chrissakes,) desertions will continue. Eventually, if the administration wants to continue this unjust, immoral, and illegal occupation, they will have to reinstate the draft, and then you will see civil unrest that will make the 60’s look like a sewing circle.

What held true in the 60’s holds true now:

What if they held a war, and nobody came?

Keep in mind that there is a HUGE difference between AWOL and Desertion. If someone is late for Duty, that is concidered AWOL.

  10. Sharon Cox says:

Trip,Since I was a Peace activest in the 60’s and am one still I agree with you….Thing is many of us have been out there as it were…..I have found there are many service personell and young people that agree with me and listen to my sage word’s of advice on how to join us and end this administration’s madness……The troll’s are blind and dumb and unless they have skin in this insanety of bush’s they are like a fool kid standing on a balcony in a wind storm and pissing in the wind….Non violance, stop our occupation and bring the troop’s home immediately along with Impeaching all these maniac’s is my goal……After we leave the mess we made we can send fund’s or what ever to help their rebuilding in Iraq…..They need to carry their own ball, as long as we have bush appointed head’s over there nothing will change but the body count’s…Thier’s and our’s…..Blessings

Well, now we’ll see what the new Congress is made of. Especially the Democrats.

Various Republicans have signaled their intention to no longer support the President and his lunacy.

There should be no doubt in the minds of the Democrats where the voters stand on this issue.

So will Congress get a backbone and push the issue or not?

  12. dlet says:

I support the troops that do not support escalation. Am I still a real American? I better go check my passport.

  13. Rick Brannon says:

Why don’t the troops support the troops?

  15. Marie says:

Those who believe Fox news would have seen the blow-dried blowhard, Sean Hannity, who while on his “brave and courageous” trip to Iraq, find and interview troops who were willing to agree on camera with what he says. And he says we are winning, whatever that means, and it is only a matter of time and thousands more soldiers.

    Media look the other way.

Hey, if we’re going with ‘if it bleeds it leads,’ something has to bleed.
    /sarcasm

  17. RUCerious says:

The BBC was told by a senior administration source that the speech setting out changes in Mr Bush’s Iraq policy is likely to come in the middle of next week.

Its central theme will be sacrifice.

The speech, the BBC has been told, involves increasing troop numbers.

The exact mission of the extra troops in Iraq is still under discussion, according to officials, but it is likely to focus on providing security rather than training Iraqi forces.

Sacrifice – as in more lives, both American and Iraqi.
    For what?
What about the Iraqi forces standing up? And our forces standing down?
Is that now “off the table”???

    Buck Fush.

  18. Sharon Cox says:

Any one want to make a guess on how much slamming of the Dem’s bull shit bush will do along with his other deadly deed’s speech….I bet he will try to incite riot’s if he can, the stupid f***….Blessings all

Nice to hear someone is now listening to the troops. My daughter told me that years ago yet the media covers what the President wants Americans to believe. Most Americans are either not interested or believe the lies that are told. Having a soldier stationed in Iraq I really get up dates every day so you guys are just keeping the news. Oh FYI Halliburton is charging the US taxpayers of the cleaning of food for the troops and Halliburton is also charging the troops for the same service. It’s called double billing. Oh and the food you saw on TV being served to our troops during the holidays was on at a few bases. The rest of our troops got fake turkey and other fake food. Most ate the food that family and volunteers sent for the holidays. So don’t believe all that stuff the White House is pushing out our troops don’t eat as good as the paid Iraq people that the Bush Administration supports.

If you didn’t get a chance to catch Countdown with Keith Olbermann on Jan, 02, 2007, I’m sure it will be out on YouTube.

    Good job Keith, thank you.
