Pelosi and Reid write Bush on escalation.

“Surging forces is a strategy that you have already tried and that has already failed. Like many current and former military leaders, we believe that trying again would be a serious mistake. … Adding more combat troops will only endanger more Americans and stretch our military to the breaking point for no strategic gain. And it would undermine our efforts to get the Iraqis to take responsibility for their own future.” Read the full letter HERE.

Wow this one almost got by.

Writing letters to GWB won’t do anything.

I have arrived at the only conclusion.

    Impeachment.

  2. Roger_Roger says:

Now this is a start!!! They better be consistent with there anti Iraq war position they had to get elected and vote within the next day or 2 to cut all funding for the war as well as pass a resolution demanding we bring all the troops home ASAP. I would hate for the Dems to simply “talk” about Iraq as being bad while still voting yes for all the Iraq war money. That would be incredibly hypocritical.

  3. Sharon Cox says:

I agree with the good start, but, how about investigations and impeachment along with this….Blessings

  4. SKdeA says:

I think this falls under the category of a warning shot across SS George’s bow…

THIS is ONE OF THE MOST IGNORANT COMMENTS that I have read to date:

    ————————————————————————————–

Those who respond to the contents of this letter with the most vile criticism of Harry Reid and/or Nancy Pelosi could not be more correct. Such a brazen ploy deserves only gutter-level profanity by those internet users so brave as to post from the patriotic confines of their mother’s basement.

How many times and how many ways can the President and his super brave copatriots proclaim “Cut and Run”? Why do all democrats want us to lose and the terrorists to win? How many more Talking Points must the President shove down your ungrateful throats before you bow down before him and recognize him as your master and you as his servant?

Here is the bottom line: We can only lose in Iraq if we say we are losing. If we say we are winning, then we in fact are winning. No matter what actually happens, we can and must only say we are winning. If we are winning, then every action is justified in the name of Freedom.

True winners jump up and down and scream “I won, I won, I won” no matter what the outcome. Only losers like the terrorists and/or Nancy Pelosi/Harry Reid would adopt such a loser tactic such as Cut and Run.

No wonder this country is so messed up! For some IDIOT to think that SAYING we are winning equates to a VICTORY, is a very mentally fractured individual and represents an unstable position in regards to reality…

Oh wait? Wasn’t that DUMBYA who started this trend?

  7. KikiD says:

#6, Minneapolis Mike is a satirist.

  8. DieNowForPeace says:

    You bet, IraqVet,
BUSH is the BIGGEST mental midget of them all (with all due respect to midgets).

  9. Rebel In CA says:

Was the letter written in crayon with pictures for bigger words. The Shrub-In-Chief Cannot read above the level of “My Pet Goat”?

  10. Roger_Roger says:

#3 Investigations are important. Impeachment for those that started this war are always a thought. It would be weird seeing Bush, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, and the rest all impeached together for voting YES to the war. They all got the same intel and all voted yes so they would all equally be at fault. My guess is the Dems will bury it under the rug because they don’t want most of there congressmen to look bad.

  11. n69n says:

woo, the king is gonna be pissssssed when someone reads that to him!!!!

  12. dlet says:

    RRooggeerr,
The military ‘07 budget was voted on and passed in June “06. They money has already been appropriated. The new Congress can only vote on new monies from this point. Do you know of a way they can take the money away that was voted on over six months ago? If so I would be interested because I admit I am no expert on the matter.

  13. Mr Diddy Wah Diddy says:

“Accountability moment”, from The Washington Post, Jan 16, 2005

President Bush said the public’s decision to reelect him was a ratification of his approach toward Iraq and that there was no reason to hold any administration officials accountable for mistakes or misjudgments in prewar planning or managing the violent aftermath.

“We had an accountability moment, and that’s called the 2004 elections,” Bush said in an interview with The Washington Post.

Apparently the November 2006 elections were not an “accountability moment.”

  14. Republicans are the fear and smear party says:

#10…wrong! Kerry and Clinton got the filtered intelligence…you remember, the doctored, tortured, tailored-to-plan intelligence that Bush served to them. If they had gotten the same intelligence that Bush did they would not have voted for it.

  15. Zooey says:

Cool. Another letter for Chimpy to ignore. A little something for the Pres Lieberry.

  16. dlet says:

They all got the same intel and all voted yes so they would all equally be at fault.
    Comment by Roger_Roger

Puuhhleeeaase. If you can’t learn from the facts that have presented to you numerous times then don’t talk. That “same intel” crap has been long dead buried.

  17. Roger_Roger says:

#16 Please show me the “intel” Bush got that Clinton and Kerry didn’t.

  18. IraqVet says:

    YOU ARE RIGHT ROGER!!!

    RUMSFELD

    BARBARA

    SANTORUM
    FOX NEWS
    MALKIN

You get my point! Never bring a knife to a gun fight! In this case, you brought a wooden stick!

  19. Roger_Roger says:

    #18,

Oh, I agree. Impeaching every single person that voted yes to the Iraq war would be a very long list on both sides of the isle. We would basically gut both the Dem and Repug party. If that is what you guys want, I can live with it. Barrack Obama I guess will be your choice for president as Kerry, Clinton, and most the others would be in Federal prison with Bush for voting Yes however.

  20. dlet says:

You look for and show me difinitive proof that states that all of Congress and the Committees were given the same intelligence that The White House had and I will look for and give you my evidence agreed?

  21. Roger_Roger says:

I believe there isn’t proof that the white had any more intel then congress. I of course am proven correct since no news agency in the world as disputed that. Logically, we can then only assume that all intel available was provided to the white house and the congress. Both bodies of government studied it thoroughly (I Hope) and voted what they felt was the best decision. Since you feel the backers of the war should be impeached, the obvious first choices for impeachment are the president and every single ELECTED Official that voted yes to this war.

  22. G.W.SuperChrist says:

They all got the same intel and all voted yes so they would all equally be at fault.

    Comment by Roger_Roger — January 5, 2007 @ 1:53 pm

Rog – when are you gonna get a fact right… what is that now 0 for 15,000,000?

Not even Republican congressmen say they got the same intel… if Bush is so forthcoming with the intel – why can’t anyone even get the basic facts on the NSA domestic wiretapping program?

I guess congress is equally responsible for domestic wiretapping eh?

  23. dlet says:

    RRooggeerr,

Thanks for not providing any proof to back your arguement. Didn’t think you would put any effort into anyway. Here are some things for you to look at and probably dismiss but they are there for others reading pleasure.

Washington Post (a news agency) article stating that The White House didi not share all intelligence.

  24. ForTruth says:

They all got the same intel and all voted yes so they would all equally be at fault.
    Comment by Roger_Roger

    Roger,

Tony Snow a couple days ago that the President knows more than anyone about Iraq. Which is it?

  25. Republicans are the fear and smear party says:

#17…Roger_Roger, we’re not going to do any more work for you. Do a Google and you will find articles from many different sources on how Bush manipulated the intelligence and misled the American people about why we went to war.

  26. Roger_Roger says:

Finding info that people guessed about is one thing. Proving that the Dems got all the intel or that Bush didn’t get all the intel is another thing. It would be impossible to prove either way. A news reporter from the Times has no ability to find the answer to this question. If a reporter found intel that Bush had that the congress didn’t, then how would a reporter have it and not congress? Couldn’t congress get it easier then some random reporter? In the end, I believe most Dems didn’t want the war but were to chicken to vote against it. If your congressman was to chicken to vote his or her mind he or she should be kicked right out of office.

  27. G.W.SuperChrist says:

Roger – you are hopeless… why don’t you go somewhere else and not read or reason?

  28. dlet says:

Roger is good for one thing. He tests peoples fact finding abilites. I have gotten better. Oh….two things…he makes me feel good about myself that I’m not such a sorry a$$ son-of-a-beaaatch.

  29. robert says:

Ok, how about this idea. We impeach everyone that has voted to sustain this war knowing that the intel was “doctored”?

That still lines up a lot of people on bith sides.

  30. Roger_Roger says:

#28 If the Dems felt the weren’t seeing every bit of intel, why did they vote yes then? That is actually scarier then Bush not showing them all the intel. If they knew they weren’t getting the whole story, but still gutlessly voted yes, they should quit now.

  31. johnny plumber says:

I thought this thread was supposed to be about the Pelosi/Reid letter. It’s a start and they and their fellow Democrats (and like-minded democrats) had better get all over this outlaw administration to stop the phony “surge” and find a political solution. The American voters were crystal clear in November: Stop this damn war. Bring back the U.N. Open a dialogue with Iraq’s neighbors Syria, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and (even) Iran. Bring in NATO, I don’t care, just start using diplomacy – God knows we haven’t even tried it – and start bringing our troops home now! Peace IS patriotic.

  32. green917 says:

    Rx2 and Robert,

I find it really interesting that I’ve now heard braying from your side of the aisle about how bipartisan everything should suddenly become (whether it be in the crafting of legislation on the hill or blame for the mess in Iraq) for the last couple days. You ALL need to understand, however, that everything has been nothing but partisan (skewed to your side) for the last 6 years. Do you honestly believe that we would forget that just a couple months ago, the Dems on the hill weren’t even allowed to attend many of the committee meetings regarding policy? Do you really think that just because we’re the big tent party and include everyone that we will somehow, conveniently forget that we’ve been completely shut out over the last 6 years? If so, I only have 1 thing to tell you:

Sell crazy someplace else ’cause we don’t need any!

I, for one (as a militant progressive), say F*#K bipartisanship. You b*stards got us into this mess so why should you have ANY amount of say in how we’re going to clean it up? Shut yer pieholes and enjoy watching the adults run the show for a while; your opinions are no longer relevant or necessary.

  33. stonehinge says:

I am really impressed with this letter. My personal faves:

No issue is more important than finding an end to the war in Iraq. [snip]

The American people demonstrated in the November elections that they don’t believe your current Iraq policy will lead to success and that we need a change in direction for the sake of our troops and the Iraqi people. [snip]

Clearly this address presents you with another opportunity to make a long overdue course correction.

These statements are exactly what I wanted see. Thank you and Senator Reed and Speaker Pelosi for being so bold and for being so prompt…bravo!!!

  34. Leslie says:

So are Pelosi and Reid going to pass legislation to prevent the surge and redeploy our troops?

  35. dlet says:

So are Pelosi and Reid going to pass legislation to prevent the surge and redeploy our troops?

    Comment by Leslie

Ask RRooggeerr he seems to have a crystal ball.

  36. JerryTheAngel says:

    TALK IS CHEAP.

Bush is about to escalate this war. Will the Congress cut off funding for the war? If they don’t have the moral backbone to do that, then this letter means nothing.

To ship out the two commanders on the ground who know the situation better then anyone else is NUTS. The Democrats not only need to force the issue and bring our brave troops hoime, after that, they need to begin impeachment hearings. He’s mentally unfit to serve as our President. It’s obvious.
