Hastert’s here to stay.

By Nico Pitney on Jan 6th, 2007 at 2:30 pm

Hastert’s here to stay.

“In an exclusive interview with CBS 2 Dennis Hastert said he can deal with the demotion, and that, contrary to many rumors, he will not quit Congress. ‘I just think that was wishful thinking on the part of some people,’ Hastert said.”

well, of course he’s saying that NOW…
his health will deteriorate rapibly, noticably, soonly…

  2. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party says:

It’s not that he won’t leave it that’s he can’t leave because he can’t get out of his chair.

  3. Vance says:

I wonder how much booze it takes for him to keep that “poison- red” glow hes had going for the last decade?

  4. gogreen says:

Hastert knows the Republicans eat their own. I am surprised that he’s staying.

  5. Vance says:

#4, He knows they will never find a roasting pan big enough for his rotund arse.

  6. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party says:

Typical republican. Staying around, taking up space, just to piss people off.

  7. tarazan says:

What happened to the ‘PAGE’ investigation? Didn’t the Congressional Ethics Committee from both parties told us that…’results will be known to the public in weeks…not months’,we are in the fourth month now, what was Hastert part in all of this? ..just checking !!.

  8. gogreen says:

The arrticle implies he’s staying for the good of the rethuglican party. I think the Dems should find something to investigate involving Hastert (which can’t be very hard) and force him to resign so they put a dem in his seat.

  9. Republicans Are The Fear And Smear Party says:

halbert, is this why you and your spouse never do it anymore, too?

  10. Barfly says:

And Hastert’s dumb-as-dirt constituents don’t yet realize how badly they screwed themselves by sending his worthless carcass back to a backbencher, minority status.

You can bet that this time, it’s all for Denny.

    Halbert Holmert

Didn’t I see you on another thread claiming to be keeping our resolve to support bush stiff? Everybody is quite determined now, so you can either stop, or reveal yourself as a troll.

tarazan – here is a good roundup on the investigation:

to answer your question – whatever happened? – nuttin’ much…

    imagine that…

  13. John Gilpins says:

Hastert is probaby staying due to the great health insurance. If he left, the co-pay would be a lot less–probably in the neighborhood of .0000000001%.

Most of us struggle along with a 99% co-pay after a $200,000,000 deductible.

I hope Nancy orders Hastert to clean toilets, shine her shoes, and to always address her as MS. BOSS.

    John

  15. Tom says:

The Stuffed Sausage may be hanging around for now but let’s hope that all those “wishful thinkers” come out to vote his overly-ample arse out of office in 2008.

  16. Marie says:

Fatboy Hastert is my representative, sad to say. We tried very hard to remove him from that seat, but his money machine is too hard to fight. Despite the power of the Republican party in this area, they have been losing ground every election for the past 8 years and Hastert had to spend a lot of cash to win this time.
The fact that he made millions of dollars personally in a land deal where he had inside information and an impact on the legislation wasn’t enough to topple him. The Foley scandal wasn’t enough either. Republicans have the major newspapers in their pockets, no one will deny. Negative news about their fair-haired boys gets scant coverage, while negative news about the Dems (any of them) makes headlines for weeks on end.

Hastert is sleaze incarnate, whether he’s fat or not.

  21. John Gilpins says:

    Marie,

I made a previous comment on a post of yours ( Rangel), but it didn’t go through.

It’s hard to believe that this guy is still in office. There must be a lot of Hostess Twinkie factories in your district, and Hastert is a good friend of these folks. No doubt Hastert is against a trans fat bill? Everyone is aware that the Hostess Twinkie lobby is a big one. They carry around a lot of WEIGHT, and they’ve probably spent millions fighting trans fat legislation. This lobby group must be even bigger than the NRA.

I know there was a big stink about a highway in his district. He owned land and he made a big profit. Maybe the highway was built so it would save him time to buy his Hostess Twinkies?

Once these FAT CATS are elected, they’ve got a job for life.

    John

    By DEB RIECHMANN
    Associated Press Writer

    January 6, 2007, 12:40 PM EST
WASHINGTON — Just as debate rages over sending more U.S. troops to Iraq, there are differing views about whether economic incentives such as micro-loans and U.S.-funded jobs programs would coax militiamen to trade guns for tools.

Some reconstruction experts say giving Iraqis jobs that include clearing streets and fixing water and sanitation systems would produce little economic benefit for a country on the brink of all-out civil war.

It would be, I think, more beneficial to hire secular priests, or Mullahs, as you will, to bring peace to Iraq. And to focus them upon rebuilding their country, for they are not fighting America so much as they are fighting each other, and the harder they fight one another the more they destroy the future of their children and breed decades of hatred, a hatred that yokes them and binds them to further hate.

I want to see Iraq become free, and to love one another, for they are brothers, as are we. This planet is mans, we are all from man and woman, no matter the skin color or the belief system one has in place. One small planet circling a star, of light, and no one cares but us, yet we do not realize that we are one lonely people, whom ignore the larger picture, for our much smaller biases.

Why for doth man battle for a world, and life, that he cannot fathom? Why cannot man see that he is here but for a short time and that they should make the best of what we have instead of fighting over what we cannot prove, much less even understand?

My heart hurts when I think of how beatiful the earth is and how ugly mankind can be, and for what? That one man doth not believe as another?

You don’t have a lawsuit, but I’m sure someone will be willing to take your money so please try.

How do we know your last name is really holmert? Because you say it is? And what do you think it means to someone else. Whether that’s your name or not, you’re an idiot?

You are just a typical lawsuit-happy neocon. CLUE: “I want to sue because I can’t spread my racism” is not grounds for a lawsuit.

  28. REGISTRATION MEANS DISCRIMINATION LAWSUIT UNLESS SOROS GIVES UP HIS TAXTau says:

For you Halbert, speak much of God and Judeo Christianity. Yet you seem to have forgotten the words of Jesus, and instead have found that as a reason to hate your fellow man. Surely the earth is full of those whom do not believe as you do, yet you hate them for that, how so can you reconcile the words of your faith with your actions?

Should the atheists hate you because you are Jewish? They should not, yet Anne Coulter, for one, has come to hate those that do not believe as her, and profited from that, and to call them Godless Liberal for personal gain, when there are just as many democratic believers in God as in the Republican party? How so is this?

I am a Godly man, such is my choice in secular America, I do not hate the atheists, for to hate them, or them us, would be wrong. God does not play politics, but today the media would have you believe so, if this was true would not have the Republicans won? For the Republicans did not lose because of their faith, they lost because they have smeared others and used dirty tricks. They see money and smear as the means to an end. Which cannot be.

Tomorrow in History – The first item of business for the new 106th Congress:

Senate impeachment trial will begin Thursday [Jan. 7, 1999]

WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, January 5) — The Senate impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton on perjury and obstruction of justice charges is set to begin Thursday, Majority Leader Trent Lott announced Tuesday.

Lott said he met early Tuesday with Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle and Chief Justice William Rehnquist, who will oversee the trial, though Lott offered no details of the meeting or how the trial may unfold.

“We have a constitutional duty here, it’s a very serious one, it’s one that we must carry forward, and we will do our very best to do that duty in the proper way … (as) God gives us the light to see that way,” said Lott, a Mississippi Republican. “I am going to do my job as majority leader, to make sure that all are consulted and that the American people feel comfortable that we’re doing this job in a way that they would feel comfortable with.”

Lott said, “At the end of the day, I’m going to do my best to make sure that we complete our constitutional duty under the rules of the Senate and come to a conclusion that is fair and hopefully quick, also.”

Your comment about being traced through the IP address is true to a certain degree. But, first of all, some people, including myself, have access to more than one computer, all with different IP numbers. Another factor is that at least with some servers IP addresses are changed periodically.
In my own case, all my e-mail to AOL.COM addresses was banned for a while last fall, because my IP number at the time was similar to that of a spammer in Taiwan. After my server finally settled the issue with AOL, I was given a different IP address, which seems to have been changed once again recently. Also, when looking up something about Ann Coulter on wikipedia several months ago, I got a note on top of the listing warning me not to “vandalize” that page any more or else I would be banned. I, in fact, had never touched Ann Coulter’s page and had to register with wikipedia just to tell them that they were making accusations against the wrong party.
Still, if a person uses the same IP address for posting on this thread often enough, I suppose he/she could be looked up fairly easily.

I don’t know whether to feel sorry for you or to envy you in a way. The latter feeling comes from the fact that I have always voted in districts (in NY and California) that are overwhelmingly Democratic. I would love to cast my ballot at least once in a swing district where my vote could make a real difference. Anyway, it’s a good sign at least that Mr. Porker’s support has been dwindling. Keep up the good work, and maybe you’ll get rid of his pork rinds someday.

  56. John Gilpins says:

TP staff, thanks for deleting Holmert’s posts. Sadly, too many people on the internet play games, and I assume these people are dealing with issues completely unrelated to politics. Completely unrelated!

Fortunately, we’re not the only Web site in cyberspace. Most of these people suddenly appear at your door, and then mysteriously disappear. Of course the speed in which these folks pack their bags helps a teeny bit, if the Web site moderators delete their posts. That’s for sure, and there’s nothing mysterious about that. Ignoring these people generally motivates them to find another adopted cyberspace home. They desire an audience, and if that’s lacking they move on. Maybe they even move on to “MOVEON.ORG.”

Zooey, thanks for your nice, kind words. I guess I’ll be posting again.

If we could only figure out a way to make these FAT CATS move on. I guess that’s the $64,000 question. Today, most of these FAT CATS wouldn’t even walk across the street for such a small amount of money: $64,000. No way! Sixty-four million would get their attention, but not $64,000.

I read a little last night about Hastert. I didn’t know many of the specifics about the land deal in his district. Something sure sounds rotten in Denmark. Just a few years ago his net worth was $300,000, and in a short period of time his net worth sky-rocketed to $6,000,000. His land became quite valuable due to his legislative efforts.

What countries in the world do you have experience in? Sorry, but I have never even been near crack.
I spend a lot of time overseas–mostly in the USA’s ostensible allies in Europe and East Asia, and I have never experienced as much hostility to the American government as I have seen since George W. Bush became president and thumbed his nose at all sorts of international treaties, while expecting other countries to support his war in Iraq. He behaves like a spoiled child who must always have his own way.
Finally, Alissa, why do you hate America so much that you want to see
