U.S. readies new nukes.

By Nico Pitney on Jan 6th, 2007 at 8:16 pm

U.S. readies new nukes.

“The Bush administration is expected to announce next week a major step forward in the building of the country’s first new nuclear warhead in nearly two decades,” the New York Times reports. “It will propose combining elements of competing designs from two weapons laboratories in an approach that some experts argue is untested and risky.” The overall bill is “estimated at more than $100 billion.”

    100 MILLION

for 100 billion we could build 500 FA-22 Raptor fight jets

    Does that sound right?

a few nukes that cost as much as an entire Air Force?

    no, it doesnt.

Is it possible to set up the comments system so that it blocks posts that are made entirely in all caps?

I’ve seen this feature implemented on several message forums.

Uh, yeah, it does sound right to me. Get real dude!

I hardly think that there is a single military contractor out there, that would even bother to get out of bed for less than 100 mil.

    LOL!

    From the NY Times…

    http://tinyurl.com/ygfcua

The effort, if approved by President Bush and financed by Congress, would require a huge refurbishment of the nation’s complex for nuclear design and manufacturing, with the overall bill estimated at more than $100 billion.

For an entire program? R&D will suck up money, and the inevitable cost-plus, no-bid, programs could easily put it in that range. We’re spending $2 billion a week in Iraq. $100 billion equals fifty weeks of deployment. What are you carping about?

  11. katy says:

i noticed that too, vance… it was there when i left, gone when i came back and refreshed the page… was #4… innocuos, if i remember…
    huh…

  12. QUALAR says:

This is good news? It’s thumbing our nose to the rest of the world, but this is typical of Bush’s unilateral approach to domestic and foreign affairs. He has lost the Iraq conflict because he was more worried about his supporters profiteering than providing jobs for the Iraqis. A British officer was forced to retire because he refused to work side by side with our military. He claimed our people were creating more problems through their disdain for the Iraqis. This is understandable since the Commander-in-Chief’s arrogance and lack of respect for dissenting views must invariably effect his subordinates.

  13. Vance says:

#13 yes katy……rather odd indeed. You dont think ‘chick fil a’ is admin do you? That would be an interesting notion…

  14. The Unknown Democrat says:

That’s it boys, we really need to build more nukes. It’s not like we don’t already have enough to destroy the world seven to ten times if we wanted to. At a time when most of the American people are uneasy about our economic future, we shouldn’t be focused on building more nukes. That would be like building more mouse traps or trying to turn sea water into salt water. These things already exist and don’t need improving.

This moron is trying his best to prove Hillary Clinton right when she said he would go down as the worst President in history. He’s doing a fine job of it so far and he continues down that road to failure as a President. And Jimmy Carter thought that he would go down as the worst since Herbert Hoover. Well my friends it appears that the current leader is about to surpass both men.

  16. Clyde the Ripper says:

There is a very definite answer to all these stupid ass proposals. Just impeach the ignorant repulsive bastard and get on with our lives. We should treat him exactly as he treated Sadam. There is very little difference between the two. Sdam was a dictator and Duhbya is just a dick without the tater. It is illegal to propose ill to our “President” so maybe we could hold a contest to see if he can last longer than Sadam. If DUHbya wins he can come back and be on Big Brother Revisited.

  17. Vance says:

Nor am I, hence the last post. Thanks for the backup.

When is it they want the money? Right away? They want every penny they can get their hands on and will create whatever they have to to get it. Bush and his cabal just can’t believe Congress would deny them their dream of World Domination.

Cut out those fundings, Congress! Think about this: Where did Israel get their $$$$$$$$$$$ to build nukes to threaten anyone! What is a “false flag” attack?

I take exception to your timeframe. DUHbya passed Hoobert Hever and Jimmy C. several years ago. There is no doubt about the fact that King George the Dumb is the worst. My problem is that I cannot reconcile him as president of this fine Country. It just doesn’t compute! For over 70 years I have respected and honored this Country. Over 40 of which was in direct service to our fine Military. I am ashamed that my efforts have been wasted by the greatest fraud ever perpetrated upon the citizens and voters of our America.

  24. MarchDancer says:

What’s another billion in debt anyway? Bush promises that his budget will have the country debt free by 2012, so he’s surely already factored in this small cost. As he has the dollars he’s prepared to go before Congress to get for his war in Iraq. And as The Decider and the Make My Own Presidential Powers person in charge, we must trust him. He’s been so honest thus far.

And the MSM will blame the Democratic Party for not getting along when the hue and cry is raised for the fox hunt required to find those floating around dollars ready to be plucked from the poor.

  25. MarchDancer says:

Well, it seems I’m behind the wall tonight. Can’t get in, puzzled a bit by the chat – who is our Prosecutor/Judge? Anyone ever heard of him before? Should I do a Wiki?

My last post didn’t – post that is. Hmmm?

  26. MarchDancer says:

Hey! First one posted! Clyde, I have wondered for some time if George W. Bush only holds the title to President of the United States. He’s either a president directed by committee of best friends whom he’s now dumping in fear of the new Congress OR Cheney is our president.

I am not a member of any conspiracy group, don’t even like those kinds of theories as a way to complicate what we (I) already don’t completely understand. Too easy to be a conspiratist.

  27. Zooey says:

    MarchDancer,

    Karl Rove is our president.

  28. MarchDancer says:

Zooey, you think so? He is more behind the scenes that the public monster as seen by MSM, isn’t he? And his approval rating is about 9% or something like that – Cheney’s I mean. Am I being led to think it’s Cheney you think?

  29. katy says:

  30. Zooey says:

    Comment by MarchDancer

I’m sure Cheney has a lot of power in the White House, but it’s Karl Rove who pulls every string, every moment, every day. Karl doesn’t give a shit about approval ratings.

I can completely understand that nuclear weapons, like any machine, might need some maintenance and part changes after a few decades. But I don’t believe for a second that’s what this program is, it’s just an excuse to try to build new weapons. With all the conventional conflicts that the military is dealing with right now, why should we waste money on nukes?

Amazing a Christian President with his major support coming from Christians and Chrstian leaders that are backed by the most POWERFUL being every imagined, and they need new bombs?

Regarding God, Scriptures in the bible tell us that God lies, deseives and deludes men for his divine purpose. Therefore, it is very possible that your perfect God lied about every word in the bible for his Divine plan and therefore nothing in the bible could be used or quoted for anything actually pertaining to a God. Basically, we cannot even use the bible as a source as it might all be a lie to deceive men.

Maybe your god is testing to see which of us is intelligent enough not to follow such a myth and use it to burn and torture others in the name of such myth.

    Beijair hath spoken!

  65. beijair says:

It takes a Christian to go to war, torture and then claim God told him to do it. The more amazing fact is that some fools actually believe it..wow.

If we ensure that we teach religious history in our schools, our kids will grow-up without this virus of religion that has caused some of the more terrible wars and torture men can dream-up.

The best way to freedom is education based on facts and logically reasoning. Not on belief in myths.

    Democrats: Nuclear Iran unacceptable
    By HILARY LEILA KRIEGER

Iran with nuclear weapons is unacceptable, new House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told The Jerusalem Post hours after entering the party leadership position.

The Maryland Democrat said the view is shared by his party, rejecting assertions that the Democrats would be weaker than the Republicans on Iran.

He also said that the use of force against Teheran remained an option.

Hoyer, second only in the hierarchy of the House of Representatives to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is charged with articulating and strategizing on party policy.

He spoke to the Post on Thursday, the opening day of the 110th Congress, after making an appearance at the National Jewish Democratic Council reception honoring the six new Jewish members of Congress.

The council gathering was one of scores of events on Capitol Hill held to celebrate the start of the new session.

Hoyer is considered close to the Jewish community and many Israel supporters have hailed his elevation in the House.

He was one of the few non-Jewish lawmakers to attend the council reception.

Hoyer said the Democrats’ position, like that of the Bush administration, was that preventing a nuclear-armed Iran had to be done through “discussions, negotiations, sanctions.” Hoyer added that the US needed to work with the international community to block Teheran’s nuclear ambitions.

At the same time, Hoyer said the use of force hadn’t been taken off the table.

“I’ve not ruled that out,” he said, but added, “It’s not an option we want to consider until we know there is no other option.”
