I wonder if he’s been bending p-hilt. hmm… something to ponder.
Anyone who’s surprised at this has obviously been either living under a rock or on a deserted island for the past couple of years. Has everyone forgotten that time back in 2004 when a U.S. soldier asked Donald Rumsfeld when he was going to get armor for his HumVee — and what Rumsfeld’s response was? This was actually the incident which triggered Rumsfeld’s famous quote about going to war with the army you have rather than the army you want — and the best which anyone can possibly say for that was that it was a rather flip and dismissive non-answer (it was actually an unbelievably rude, callous, and disrespectful response to a perfectly reasonable and legitimate question). Actions speak louder than words, it is said — and the fact that more than a few of our soldiers were reportedly combing through landfills at the time in the hope of finding salvageable materials to make up for the lack of supply from our own military speaks volumes for just how much actual, tangible support the average rank-and-file grunt can expect from this administration!
If anyone’s expecting the Bush administration to come through and supply the proper protection for our troops, my advice is don’t hold yer breath!!
Here is aquote from an article which I tried to post the link to and got bumped so for your info it’s under google type in Vetrans cost due to Iraq, click on the more than 2 Trillion dollar war here is the money quote:
$2 Trillion and Counting
The total costs of the war, including the budgetary, social and macroeconomic costs, are likely to exceed $2 trillion. As large as these costs are, an equally large set of costs have been omitted. We have not included the costs borne by other countries, either directly (as a result of military expenditures) or indirectly (as a result of the increase in the price of oil.) Then there are the intangible costs – the cost of our reduced capability to respond to national security threats elsewhere in the world, and the cost of rising anti-American sentiment in Europe and the Middle East. Americans have long taken pride in fighting for human rights. But our credentials have been badly tarnished by the Iraq war, leading to a sharp decline in America’s “soft power.†On issues from trade negotiations to global warming to the international criminal justice system, this decline will have a continuing impact on the United States’ ability to have its point of view prevail.END QUOTE This what the President won’t be around to endure you andf I and our kids will pay for this for the rest of our collective lives…..
All the official transcripts of White House signing ceremonies for every defense spending bill, all the presidential proclamations for Veterans Day and every prepared statement by the secretary of defense before a congressional committee include the same stock phrase. U.S. troops are invariably referred to as “the best trained, best equipped” ever. Best equipped? To call today’s American troops in Iraq the “best equipped” is more than an exaggeration; it is bilge, baloney and cruel.
And more bullshit from Bush on 12/15/06 about being “best equipped”:
“…but Rumsfeld’s determination and leadership led to the best equipped, best trained and most experienced military in the world.”

I am glad Bush is standing up to them instead of pissing his pants like a democrta would do.
George is farting on himself, drinking a diet coke, flying high in the Presidential Jet.
You see, Rachel B, he is not keeping you safe. The people that are serving in the forces, in the Secret Service, The CIA and the Border Patrol, the Police, those you don’t care about, are the ones keeping you safe.
As we saw on 9/11, George will be whisked away, far away from any action, and he will not be rushing to the bat cave, sliding down a pole, and leaping into a batmobile to come to Rachel B’s house and protect her crumb crunchers.
If enough of them refuse to deploy, they can stop this monstrosity and less can be done to them. Anyway, anything is better than being stuck in Iraq . . .
I am contemplating the sacrafice of watching the chimp’s speech 2nite. Should be better on the comedy and satire angle then either Stewart or Colbert! Could also be a weight reduction process as I ordinarily puke out about five gallons if I watch him for more then ten minutes – that’s about 40 pounds. This man is as deep as one ounce of mineral oil spread across the surface of the Pacific Ocean (And that’s stretching it!).
I saw your crap on the thread below as well, rachelb. What are you teaching your children? Lordy!! You are teaching them rascism and hate for fellow human beings is a GOOD THING. The fact that we have people who think like that in our world means that we have much work to do.
As for your children, well since they seem to be young ones at home, you really shouldn’t say crap about who should go and die and kill, right? MY CHILDREN are all of service age, not little ones at home. So when you spout your crap about dying and killing, remember those of us who are a bit older, have kids that will be OVER THERE, unlike yours. I have a few of my own in their 20’s.
So Mommy–remember that some of us really do love our kids and don’t want them to kill or be killed or learn that sh*t. My children don’t deserve to die in a war for a bunch of lies and neither do anyone else’s.
I would love to replace ALL 20,000 HMMWV (Hummers) replaced with Cougers. Anyone have an extra $10 billion.
Seriously, we do not have “perfect” gear, but we are constantly getting better gear. If the military had been equiped and continuously modernized in the time between Nam and now, maybe we would have “perfect”.
In short, yep, it sucks we ain’t got more of them.
Bush just spoke tonight and it seems to me that it is more of the same; just with more drama.
No dialogue with Syria and Iran – instead, show them we will fight them if necessary.
He may have stated an oblique admittance “where mistakes were made, the responsibility lies with me” but he has not changed his stance, his approach, or his ideology.
He talks of this not being open ended, after years of “staying the course” but then he talks of more troops, more conflict and a bloody year to come.
BTW, Obama gave an interview from the capitol and he is amazingly articulate when speaking off the cuff: this is not a republican/democratic problem — this is realists versus ideologues.
Just a comment.. my first thought when watching the speech, is that Bush looked like a very frightened child…no smirk, no nervous laughter.. He looked like he very badly wanted to be anywhere but where he was.. like maybe the nearest bar..
