Fox Anchor: ‘Internet Blogs’ Say I Called Kennedy A ‘Hostile Enemy,’ But ‘I Didn’t Mean It That Way’

Yesterday on Fox News, anchor Gretchen Carlson called Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) a “hostile enemy” of the United States because he has demanded that Congress vote on whether to approve funding for escalation in Iraq.

This morning, instead of apologizing for her comments, Carlson said “Internet blogs” misconstrued her statements: “Of course, I didn’t mean it that way. Trust me. I don’t think Sen. Kennedy is any enemy in any way.” Watch it:

Transcript:

STEVE DOOCY: Anyway, Gretchen, you’ve got something.

GRETCHEN CARLSON: Yeah, we’ve been talking a lot about e-mails and blogs and you guys know that I don’t know much about any of those Internet blogs. I just found out about YouTube like, three months ago. But anyway, I apparently made it on some of them yesterday. I was talking to presidential counselor Dan Bartlett. I was interviewing him about this time yesterday. I was trying to compare the conflict in Iraq with the political conflict right here at home. Well, apparently, it sounded like I called Sen. Ted Kennedy an enemy on the home front. Of course, I didn’t mean it that way. Trust me. I don’t think Sen. Kennedy is any enemy in any way. All right? So hopefully we cleared that all up. Let’s go to the weather with Steve.

  3. Anonymous By Choice Says:

    "MARINE, OR FORMER MARINE?"

At Jason Dunham's ceremony, Bush went up to the podium to give his speech - and downright came to a HAULT, asking if he should call him a Marine, or former Marine. Bush didn't know!

Did Bush do ANY preparation? Why doesn't he already know what to call him? Un-be-lievable. (He fumbled a few more times during the speech too.)

  4. OxyCon Says:

She was for calling Kennedy an enemy of state before she was against it.

Cleared what up...you're just a typical Faux 'News' hack, which those of us who aren't marinating in Kool-Aid knew already! I could elaborate but no need...it's right there on tape!

  10. Dr. Know Says:

I'm loatheto say this about anyone at fox but... I think that was kinda sincere. By fox's standards anyway.

  11. Geoff Says:

...next step would be for FOX to admit Kerry didn't mean to insult the troops...

  12. tlsintx Says:

it wasn't only the mean internet bloggers...dan bartlett heard it too.

  13. Marie Says:

#3, I have that on my TV this morning - and I totally concur with you. He didn't even know how to address those he was acknowledging.
He spoke of General Peter Pace as, Gen'l Pete Pace.
He also mistakenly referred to "navy" when he should have said "Marine" and to make matters worse, he then joked and said "I didn't mean to insult you." So Navy personnel are not equal to Marine personnel in the eyes of the AWOL cimp in chief.
He is a disaster. He is probably still on medication after last night.

  14. TerrytheTurtle Says:

Well give Miss USA her due - she also said "hostile enemy, obviously being Iraq".... hmm. I thought that Iraq was a utopian democracy and friend in the fight against terra. Did my fax machine break again or did Fox Bimbo merely display breathtaking ignorance?.....thats a fair and balanced question

  15. Jay Randal Says:

FOX News must fire her or the network must be boycotted till it goes bankrupt! Democrats must pass a bill to remove FOX's broadcast license!

  16. Marie Says:

The bubble headed bleached blonde does not apologize for her outrageous comments of yesterday - like a true republiscum, she says she was misunderstood, misconstrued and obviously a victim of the lying eyes and ears of the viewing public.

  17. Jim Says:

If thats her idea of an apology, she has a lot to learn. Oh, wait, she works for Faux News. What was I thinking?

  18. WC Says:

Of course, I didn’t mean it that way.

Sure you did. And if you hadn't been called out by the blogs, you would still mean it that way. Had you meant it any other way, you would have included an explanation in your comments posted above.

Keep it up, Gretchen. Please. Your ignorance and big mouth is typical of most Republicans and just one reason they lost in the last election. The people are catching on.

  19. klyde Says:

So she's a liar. She works for Faux it's a requirement for the job.

  20. Marie Says:

Gretchen says "trust me" ?? WTF!

  21. Killjoy Says:

As opposed to the non-internet blogs?

  22. lw Says:

Faux News repeatedly uses rhetorical questions as a method for expressing opinions. That way someone can ask "Is Ted Kennedy an enemy of the United States?" (to plant that idea in listener's minds) and then turn around and say "I didn't say I thought Ted Kennedy was an enemy of the United States". It's a common method of framing (especially with Faux News) - injecting an idea without taking responsibility for it.

  23. TripMaster Monkey Says:

Sounds like she's trying to deflect a potential lawsuit.

    Gretchen sez:

Well, apparently, it sounded like I called Sen. Ted Kennedy an enemy on the home front.

    Yes, apparently. From Gretchen yesterday:

You talk about the hostile enemy, obviously being Iraq, but hostile enemies right here on the home front. Yesterday Senator Ted Kennedy, proposing that any kind of a troop surge should mean there should be congressional approval of that.

Gretchen, if you didn't mean to paint Ted Kennedy as an 'enemy of the state', why did you mention him and his proposal in the same breath as 'enemies right here on the home front'? Why did Bartlett feel compelled to deny your assertion? Why did you not issue your retraction then and there, since it was obvious, from Bartlett's statement, that that's the impression you left?

Answer: because leaving that impression was your intention all along.

Of course, I didn’t mean it that way.

Evidence is pretty damned strong that you did, Gretchen.

    Trust me.

    NO.

  24. Opie Dey Says:

Yesterday, even Dan Bartlett understood that she was calling Kennedy a hostile enemy; but, to his credit, he rejected her slanderous remark.

  25. johnny Says:

Oh, and I absolutely agree that all democrats should boycott FNC and highlight the slime coming out of that network until they personally apologize to the great Senator from Mass.

  26. IdahoMoe Says:

    CUPID STUNT

  27. Zoo Says:

GRETCHEN CARLSON: You talk about the hostile enemy, obviously being Iraq, but hostile enemies right here on the home front. Yesterday Senator Ted Kennedy, proposing that any kind of a troop surge should mean there should be congressional approval of that.

Hey Gret. May I call you Gret? Thanks.

When you string a bunch of words together -- like the words above, for example -- they mean something. And until the "internet blogs" called you on your bullshit, you wouldn't have give it a second thought.

Cry me a frickin' river, you silly twit.

  28. JJ Says:

Keep up the good work, ThinkProgress !!!

  29. Stevious Says:

Where do they find the dizzy blonde stereotypes to staff their newsdesk with anyway, Texas?

  30. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

Since there were so many trolls here yesterday agreeing with Carlson, does that mean they misunderstood her also? Are they going to "apologize" and backpedal as she has?

    No and No.

  31. veritas Says:

Gretchen Carlson epitomizes all the dumb blonde jokes and IS one! She'd better watch what she says or implies or she'll soon be shunned by the american people whose opinions are more in line with those expressed by Ted Kennedy any day of the week!

  32. Dumb_Fox Says:

I was trying to compare the conflict in Iraq with the political conflict right here at home.

You seen all the f*cking IEDs on capitol hill? How many purple hearts McCain and Webb have won for arguing against each other? How long did Rick Santorum spend in ICU at Walter Jones?

Yeah the streets of Baghdad and An-bar Province are just like all those Georgetown fundraisers.

Well, apparently, it sounded like I called Sen. Ted Kennedy an enemy on the home front.

What part of "hostile enemy" did you not mean?

I won't call you any bad names, because TP don't let us do that, but you are really quite stupid if you think that none of us can work a TiVo.

  33. veritas Says:

Carlson is obviously an air-headed sycophant of the only type that Faux News hires. Anyone who goes on Faux news believing that they have anything honest or relevant to say are in for a huge surprise. They not besmerch their own character by sheer association with a network of slime and deceit. No democrat worth a shred of integrity would EVER agree to be a guest on Faux news. I think the Congress needs to boycott FAUX news and any news station which obviously indulges in pure propaganda and lies.

  34. PeeWee Says:

Don Henley wrote about her in Dirty Laundry:

    We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
    Comes on at five
She can tell you bout the plane crash with a gleam
    In her eye

  35. Mr Blifil Says:

OMFG, what a craven gull she is. First she has to do Boss Ailes' bidding by carrying on with Dan Bartlett in an obviously choreographed performance designed to float the meme that Kennedy is an "enemy," and then when that blows up in their faces, she is forced to go on camera and offer a degrading mea culpa. A mea culpa which only came about as a result of her unquestioning willingness to do whatever she is told if it means a guarantee of camera time. You made your bed, babe, shit-stained soiled sheets and all. Now lie in it.

  36. veritas Says:

FAUX News ad in classified for female news anchors: All shades of blonde from platinum to ash welcomed with open arms; room temperature IQ or less desirable; absence of erector spinea necessary (spine); and hungry enough to whore for a worthless agency of pure drivel, hyperbole, exaggeration, and outright lies....Any and all applicants apply directly to: Whoremaster, FAUX News.

This lame excuse for a news station continues to show and awe with their new nadir of disgust and fiction with each passing day. Since when does pure, unadulterated fiction pass for reality?? Not in the world of anyone with one iota of sanity, that's for sure.

  37. veritas Says:

Ted Kennedy is a true patriot for exposing this charade and standing up as the voice of the majority of the american people. Kudos for him! Besides, he's certainly more articulate, educated, and intelligent than this dumb blonde and her cadre of idiots on Faux news.

  38. Peter Says:

Cos I’m a blond, yeah, yeah, yeah,
    Cos I’m a blond, b-l-o-n-d
Don’t you wish you were me.

    Terry,

The term "blond" refers to men. Alas, Gretchen Carlson is a woman, so she would be a "blonde".

Ann Coultier, on the other hand, would be correctly called a blond.

  39. gnumbo Says:

Gretchen Carlson is the reason why mostly straight men feel the need to rape people like her.

you are a whore, hunny bun.

queers don't like whores in that way.

    you do it to yourself.

    i hope you're shocked

  40. veritas Says:

#14 - are you kidding with the Miss USA moniker? Is this best we've got in this country? What year was that? She's certainly over the hill now if that was the case. Guess that's what lying consistently and sucking up to manipulating counterfeiters does to an individual. Talk about physical age and functional obsolescence!

  41. sd Says:

whoa - sounds like someone got a paddlin' from the higher-ups after she was verbally rebuked by bartlett on-air.

  42. veritas Says:

Boycott anything this dumb schmuck blonde does in the future. Continuing to watch fiction parading as reality will only infect your brain as Gretchen's hair dye has obviously done to her.

  43. roger_inkart Says:

Well, seeing as FOX reports and you decide they could have just run the clip again. Except that she did clearly call Kennedy a hostile enemy (a comment even Dan Barlett clearly didn't want to be associated with) she didn't have a lot of room to weasel out of it.

FOX is beneath contempt as are the mannequins they employ.

  44. sd Says:

    ahh hahahahahah -

  45. creasybear Says:

Gretchen Carlson said “trust me” .... Hey, did she borrow that from Bush or was it just my ears!

  46. dlet Says:

    Veritas,
She was Miss Minnesota who became Miss America and now is a Fox News anchor that calls a US Senator a hostile enemy to the US. Only on Fox.

  47. Fools on the Hill Says:

We'd all be better off if we revoked Murdock's citizenship and sent him back to down under. And he can take O.J. and all his fake reporters with him.

  48. roger_inkart Says:

I'm from Minnesota - I went to school with about seven "Gretchen Carlsons." And four "Dan Johnsons." Perhaps about nine "Karen Andersons."

Yup, we like our names as plain as our food in Minnesota (one reason I now live in California.)

  49. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

“Of course, I didn’t mean it that way."

If you are going to be in a position to inform the American people, then say what you mean and mean what you say. If you cannot do that, consider another line of work. Phone sex might be one, for example.

    "Trust me."

No. I never trust anyone who says "trust me". If you have to tell me, it's because you haven't shown me.

  50. Tom Says:

I am appalled that she actually represented my great state of Minnesota in the Miss America pageant.

The little-known fact about this bitch is that she was really hired to do the weather reports for FoxSnooze but she failed the aptitude test so she ended up at the news desk where there are no standards.

  51. Commons3nse Says:

Obviously, Carlson is a native english speaker and there is NO doubt what this means:

You talk about the hostile enemy, obviously being Iraq, but hostile enemies right here on the home front; Yesterday Senator Ted Kennedy, proposing that any kind of a troop surge should mean there should be congressional approval of that.

There is no other way to interpret this statement. Carlson did, in fact, infer that "enemies" referred to Kennedy. Carlson also, by her own admission an internet neophyte, is clearly unused to confronting recorded documentation of her duplicity via the 'internets.' She falls back on the now-outmoded throwaway denial which no longer applies since the news media is no longer the exclusive gatekeeper of aired content. Carlson is a coward and a tool. She rents out her "sincerity" act to FOX news. What ethics could she have to begin with?

  52. Jeff Says:

    Lying propagandist C*NT

  53. Happy Guy Says:

Boooo, you had it right the first time. Unless you want to say he is

Drunken and a Hostile Enemy of the United States

    Or

A Murderer and a Hostile Enemy of the United States

    Or

A boated Ugly Fat Pig and a Hostile Enemy of the United States

  54. Rosencrantz Says:

This is why FOx loves to use the "some say" comment so much. THey think that if they add that to anything they say, then they have an excuse to avoid potential criticism. "I didn't say that or imply it. I was simply asking a question and making a point about what people may think."

They think it's okay to say anything they want, no matter how biased and extreme, so long as they add "some say".

Keep the pressure on Fox and don't let ANY of them get away with this kind of distortion and deception. "Some say" is just Fox's way of inserting lies and distortion into the public debate. Viewers watch this and think that it is okay to call Democrats and Bush critics terrorists because Fox gives the impression that others think the same way. They don't. Fox is not in the business of news or facts or journalism. They are in the business of propaganda and CREATING opinion.

  55. NoMoreBush Says:

Yes, I will mention enemy on the home front and without pause in the next sentence bring up Ted Kennedy and his proposed legistlation. That way, I can later say that I never said Ted Kennedy WAS an enemy of the state.

See, I learned that from my uncle Dick Cheney who would in the same context mention 9/11 and then without pause talk about Saddam Hussein and Iraq. Therefore, the lemming peeps gulping down their Pepsi in a Big Gulp, while eating extra-cheese Cheetoes out in the mind numbing heartland, will link the two as FACT.

And these are the idiots who thought Clinton/Gore parsed words. I don't know if I hate them because their commentary is so ridiculously stupid or that they seem to think that I am so ridiculously stupid that I cannot see through their very unclever and transaparent way of deception. Gretchen, babe, not all of us are stupid like you. The day you and your ilk are able to outhink me (on your best and my worst day no doubt) is the day I slit my wrists because surely I have dementia and yelling at trash cans is just around the corner.

Stupid fool. You should be some a-hole's trophy wife who works out all day and stands, smiles and keeps her stupid pie hole firmly SHUT by nioht. That is your SOLE qualification.

  56. JaneESchneider Says:

#23, Tripmaster, and #30, PLC, great points! Too bad the logic will escape the trolls.

  57. cynical ex-hippie Says:

#40: "are you kidding with the Miss USA moniker? Is this best we’ve got in this country?"

I'm confused, did you just use the words Miss USA and the phrase "the best we've got in this country" in some sort of relation to each other?

You've seen the talent portion of that contest right?

    I didn't believe him either.

  64. JIMBO Says:

It's a shame that she didn't followed the CNN example when they apologized for the Barack Obama debacle last week.

At Faux News, an apology is offensive to them because they would admit that they did something wrong.

    BLOGGERS RULE! MSM DROOLS!

Thats why she got it in 89. No talent required.

  70. the liberal press Says:

Before the last November's election, any whore on Faux News who accused Ted Kennedy of being an enemy of the state would have followed up with, "You bet I meant he was an enemy of the state."

But now that public opinion is changing and Faux News' ratings are in free fall, they've decided to go the apology/misunderstood route. Since she as able see the writing on the wall, and since she figured out that 1+1=2, maybe she isn't so dumb after all.

  71. Parrotlover77 Says:

Mel Gibson and Michael Richards are not racists either...

The sad thing is that the core Fox News demographic believe the 1984-style revisionist history that they employ on a daily basis on Fox News.

  72. Juan C Says:

  73. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Of course, I didn’t mean it that way. Trust me. I don’t think Sen. Kennedy is any enemy in any way. All right? So hopefully we cleared that all up.

Perhaps we should all e-mail them at Friends@foxnews.com and tell them, "No, you did not clear that up."

As someone pointed out before, why even mention the two things so close together if not to conflate them in the viewers' minds? No matter how she tries to spin it, she was calling Senator Kennedy an Enemy of the State.

  74. Tom Says:

Perhaps we should all e-mail them at Friends@foxnews.com and tell them, “No, you did not clear that up.”

OK, I admit, I think you are a pathetic low-life based on a majority of the rest of your posts, but this comment is over the line even for you. And I'm not laughing.

  113. Marie Says:

    Hey ! #59 and #60
I am fully aware of the rivalry between the branches of service - if my point wasn't clear this morning, it was that the Commander in Chief of all the armed forces was totally out of order in implying that the Navy was less important than the Marines. In apologizing to the Marine, he denigrated the sailor. Tactless.

  114. robert Says:

Marie, I think we both got your point, but I could not resist at least a small slam of the Sailors. I love them all like brothers (as well as Army and Air Force, well, ok Yes, the Air Force).

Sometimes you just gotta have fun!

Nice pic TP. Great job in capturing her in the "Blow-up Doll" pose. Not that I know what that would look like but....I heard somewhere......what that would look like.......yeah...

  119. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Someone must have been helping me hit my target during small arms training. I didn't think I was that great a shot, and when we finished the guy next to me muttered, "I think I was shooting at the wrong target." When the instructor finished adding up the scores, I ended up with enough to get a Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon. Other than the next time I went to small arms training, I never fired another weapon while I served (or since). Still, if someone had to choose between you and me for someone to stay and defend them with a gun, I would HIGHLY encourage them to pick you. That's how much respect I have for the USMC. I know who can kill me before I even know I'm being attacked.

  120. robert Says:

You flatter me and I am humbled.

I have nothing but respect for you AF guys. My wife's entire family (minus her) served in the AF.

I try not to attack anyone if I can help it, but if they cross the line...

    Again, thanks for the praise.

  121. paul Says:

The orignal posting is on the next page of older posts. I just played the clip again. Although I admit that Fox is more conservative friendly than the other networks, I don't believe she was describing Kennedy as an hostile enemy of the United States, but as a hostile enemy of the Bush Administration.

  122. ForTruth Says:

    Paul, shut up.

  123. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

    paul,

To the Bush Administration, they are the United States.

  124. liberality Says:

I agree that she is just doing her job and saying what they tell her to say, including almost saying she was wrong to say what she did the day before if need be. She is doing her job. It is a horrible stupid job. She should be ashamed of herself that she has to stoop to this kind of drivel. However people, please don't write things like "cVnt" or whore or whatever. Your arguement suffers as a result. We are better than that, okay?

  125. robert Says:

One question: Did any of you foam at the mouth like this when Danny Rather pulled out those questionable documents during the last Pres. election?

You know, the ones that called Bush's credibility into question?

Or did you happily accept them as fact?

  126. TripMaster Monkey Says:

    Paul sez:

I don’t believe she was describing Kennedy as an hostile enemy of the United States, but as a hostile enemy of the Bush Administration.

Well, let's look at that quote from Gretchen again, shall we?

GRETCHEN CARLSON: You talk about the hostile enemy, obviously being Iraq, but hostile enemies right here on the home front.

So...according to your logic, Gretchen is saying Iraq is not a hostile enemy of the United States, but of the Bush administration?

Can I buy some pot from you?

  127. Henry Hoffman Says:

I think this Fox commentator needs to do like all other "celebs" and polititians- go into a drug/alcohol rehab for a week. After all, that's why she said it...

  128. Earthling Says:

Really? Then how did you mean it, bitch. These traitors to the United States and the American people need to be dealt with now. This Bush and the republican party first, Americans and our country last shit needs to stop now.

  129. dlet Says:

Calling a Senator an enemy of the State deserves more foam that a newsman presenting copies of documents that he believed to be true that try to fill in the blank time of Bush's life that even he won't discuss. People have asked Bush. This Fox hussy never asked Ted Kennedy if he was an enemy of the state. She didn't even have a photocopy of someone accusing him of being one. And you even use the word questionable for the documents that Dan Rather used. No one ever proved they were fake. Though in my opinion they should have done a better job to make sure they were absolutlely authentic to protect them from question.

  130. paul Says:

I have resolved this past New Year to be more agreeable. I agree with the description of Gretchen's picture as the “Blow-up Doll” pose. She's still cute.

  131. ForTruth Says:

I don’t believe she was describing Kennedy as an hostile enemy of the United States, but as a hostile enemy of the Bush Administration.

    Comment by paul

Paul, isn't it considered to be one in the same? If not, I plan to use this in all my arguments. You seem dumb.

She's hot and I want to look just as slutty as her when I grow up!

  134. robert Says:

    dlet,

Here is the kicker. If she called Kennedy an "enemy of the state" on a show that is COMMENTARY than it can be concluded that it was her OPINION. That is what commentators do. Take the news, inject their opinion and broadcast it. Remember, this was during Fox and Friends which is much like Good Morning America or the Today Show. Not hard hitting news.

Rather presented documents that had not been validated as FACT to the American public. Subsequently the documents have been examined and the general consensus is that they are fake. But Rather gets a pass for lying to the American public? Bulls-it, flag on the play.

Now, who is the libelous one here?

Personally, I do not think Kennedy is an enemy of the state. He may be alot of other thing, but that is a different story.

  135. Groopies4Gretchen Says:

She never called Kennedy an enemy of the state so your point is mute! Leave Gretchen alone!

  136. paul Says:

ForTruth. I'm trying here. The United States is not one and the same as the Bush Administration. I would imagine you (and if not you, many on this site) believe Bush to be a criminal. To the Bush Administration, you (or others here) would be hostile and/or an enemy of the Bush Administration, because you advocate for the demise of the Bush Administration (ie. the constant drumbeat for impeachment and/or war crimes tribunals). Now, just because you are hostile and/or an enemy to the Bush Administration, doesn't mean you are hostile and/or an enemy of the United States. Because they are not one in the same. Without knowing you, I just assume you love this country as much as I do. Again, I'm really trying. Did that do anything to clarify my position?

  137. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

One question: Did any of you foam at the mouth like this when Danny Rather pulled out those questionable documents during the last Pres. election?

You know, the ones that called Bush’s credibility into question?

Or did you happily accept them as fact?

    Comment by robert

First, I didn't watch Dan Rather, so no.

Second, as has been explained many times to visitors here, the only thing in question about those documents were whether or not they were "real" or some kind of facsimile, but no one who was willing to accept the truth, doubted that the informaiton they contained was accurate.

Finally, Bush's credibility was called into question LONG before that whole flap about the ANG documents.

Nice attempt to derail things, though. Have a nice day. And remember, Bush skipped out on his obligation to serve. Of that there is no doubt. And his family connections kept him out of trouble.

  138. Groopies4Gretchen Says:

Your "postion" is not a position at all! Stop bashing Gretchen!

  139. ForTruth Says:

Paul that is an excellent clarification of your position.

However, the Bush admin and many, many, people do not make that clear distinction. Fox News certainly does not. I think you may be falling into the "splitting hairs" category. The drumbeat from the Republicans for 6 years has been: If you are against Bush, you are against the US, you hate America.

Paul, I must hold your position as an exception.

  140. paul Says:

ForTruth. I believe that she was decribing him as a political enemy (which he is) and almost any Republican could be considered a political enemy of Kennedy (because they disagree so significantly politically). What I don't understand (and both parties are guilty) is why political differences escalate into enemy status and hate. (Please don't miscontrue this as a plea for 'can't we all just get along'). But, I hope we can agree to disagree. And thank you for not calling me stupid or dumb in your last post. Peace.

Gretchen - You had it right the first time - Ted "Breast Stroke" Kennedy has been a proponent of "appease and please foreign policy" since the Cold War. His internationalist tendancies demonstrate he is no friend to this country - and the fact you're a blonde, watch out....

  143. Bluedog49 Says:

GroopiesforGretchen: "She never called Kennedy an enemy of the state so your point is mute!"

The point may be unable to speak, but I still get it.

  144. Bluedog49 Says:

Robert, you still don't have any information on where Bush was for 3 to 9 months while he was supposed to be on Alabama National Guard Duty. You still don't know why Bush refused to take a physical and was stripped of his flying priviledges. Nobody has ever come forward with any evidence that Bush was fulfilling his duties. I'm not sure what you think happened with the Dan Rather affair, but Bush was certainly not exonerated in any way, shape or form. The evidence shows that he didn't show up for at least 3 months. Military proceedure at the time called someone in that catagory Absent Without Leave.

  145. Bluestocking Says:

Ms. Carlson clearly needs to learn and put into practice the age-old advice of thinking before you speak and never saying anything you wouldn't want splashed on the front page of the newspaper tomorrow. She chose of her own free will to shoot herself in the foot while it was still in her mouth -- if she doesn't like the consequences, then perhaps she should learn to choose her words with a little more care and a little more tact in future!

Personally, I'm one of those people who believes that people never say out loud anything they don't truly mean on some level -- probably due to the fact that most of the required reading for my psychology degree related to Freudian theory. So when Carlson called Ted Kennedy a hostile enemy of the United States on the home front, she didn't really mean it? Sure.....riiiiiiiiiiiight. Pray tell, just what did she mean then? I don't believe this halfhearted retraction of hers for one minute -- I believe that deep down, even though she can't really afford to acknowledge it completely on the record and even if she might have difficulty acknowledging it to herself in private, I very much believe that she considers Senator Kennedy and anyone else who disagrees with or questions the President to be an enemy of the United States.

When will these people realize that the country and the office of the Presidency are not one and the same -- that one can love one's country and still not love the President? These people are like the co-dependent family members of an active addict. There are times when the greater act of love is to say to someone "this behavior of yours really needs to stop because it's hurting you and hurting us as well" rather than to constantly make excuses for someone's behavior and pretend that there isn't really a problem.

  146. ForTruth Says:

    Sorry for the insults.

  147. Lora Says:

Ahh, liberal press has nothing to say making fun of looks. Well, what does Pelosi look like? Or Hillary and her (puke) b!tch kid? You don’t argue facts both ways do you want to make fun of looks both ways?
How about Ted? He is so bloated it looks like has has been under water looking for his date - ROTFL

    Comment by Happy Guy

I have seen considerable posts here by trolls making fun of the looks of liberal women, such as Cindy Sheehan, Maureen Dowd, Nancy Pelosi, Hillary, and Helen Thomas (who is 87 years old, for Heaven's sake). Aside from the fact that I personally find some of these women attractive, if you neo-cons really want to smash female looks, how about your own "beauties" like Bay Buchanan, Mary Matalin, and Katherine Harris?
Yes, Ted Kennedy is fat, but I doubt if he is any fatter than Dennis Hastert or Bill Bennett.

  148. JoeWo Joe Wosik Blog » Blog Archive » FOX talking head returns to her vomit and sucks it back in Says:

[...] She said Kennedy was an enemy of the state, then the White House tlaking head basically distanced himself from her statement. What is so hard to understand in this formula?  However “some say” this cozying up to Ted Kennedy only displays this Fox talking head’s true extremely leftist stance on politics and her disdain for the Beloved Leader. I believe this FOX talking head should be brought back to the “Education Center” for some hard labor and intensive propoganda drilling.  Story is here with both videos linked at the story [...]

  149. Bluedog49 Says:

How about Roger Ailes? Teddy looks downright fit next to that fatso. And, the last time I saw Rush he looked like he had added about 50 pounds -- a big, fat, ugly slob. I loved how they digged at Nancy Pelosi's looks -- listen getting Nancy instead of that troll Hastert is a big upgrade. Pelosi is a very nice looking woman.

  150. Uncle_Ho Says:

    BUSTED!!!

  151. robert Says:

    Bluedog49,

I am not saying that it exonerated Bush. All I am saying is that Rather went on the air, stating that the Documents he had in his possession had been authenticated. Later, it was found out that they had not been. Is that a lie or not?

If it was a lie then Rather should not have gotten a pass.

  152. Bluedog49 Says:

Robert, every time someone says Bush lied to start a war, one of his supporters says, "no, he was given bad intelligence." Rather was given documents which he thought were authentic (we still don't really know whether or not they were) and presented them to the public. Rather simply felt that these documents supported what he and most people already knew about Bush. By the way, this is the exact same way that the author of "Fortunate Son" found himself being discredited and Karl Rove was involved with that incident as well.
