Tonight on MSNBC, Chris Matthews aggressively questioned White House Press Secretary Tony Snow about whether President Bush’s rhetoric last night was a “precursor for a rationale for an attack” on Iran.
Matthews said he feared the Bush administration would use a skirmish with Iranian fighters in Iraq as a reason to “bomb the hell out of them and hit their nuclear installations without any without any action by Congress. That’s the scenario I fear, an extra-constitutional war is what I’m worried about.” Snow told Matthews “you have been watching too many old movies,” but Matthews interrupted. “No, I’ve been watching the war in Iraq, is what I’ve been watching.” Watch it:
Full transcript:
MATTHEWS: Well, he did say we’re gonna disrupt the attacks on our forces. “We will interrupt the flow of support from Iran.” Does that mean stopping at the Iranian border or going into Iran?
SNOW: Well, again, I think what the president’s talking about is the war in Iraq, Chris.
MATTHEWS: So he will seek congressional approval before any action against Iran?
SNOW: You are talking about something we are not even discussing.
MATTHEWS: Yeah, but you are, Tony, because look at this. “I recently ordered the deployment of an additional carrier strike group to the region.” Isn’t that about Iran?
SNOW: It, it — yeah, it is, in part, and what it is is it’s saying, look, we are going to make sure that anybody who tries to take aggressive action — but when Bill Clinton sent a carrier task force into the South China Sea after the North Koreans fired a missile over Japan, that was not as a prelude to war against North Korea. You know how it works.
MATTHEWS: No, I’m just concerned because, very much in the years, in the months building up to this war in Iraq, we heard a kind of a drumbeat of the dangers from Iraq and the nuclear weaponry and what we’re going to do about it, and then gradually we went to war. And I’m just wondering we’re looking here at the precursor for a rationale for an attack of some kind on — you say — I’ll take it at your word. If the president is not going to attack Iran, we’ll move on.
SNOW: Ok, but, let me just do a couple of things here. I think you understand and most Americans understand Iran is the foremost financier of global terror. It’s a problem. But you don’t deal with everything militarily, as you know. The United States exhausted all diplomatic options before going into Iraq, and I think what you’re doing if you’re trying to go down the road of speculation that is just way ahead of events. Right now, we’re working on making Iraq a success. One other thing about Iran, Chris. The Iranian public, most which of is young, is very pro-American. We got a lot of people —
MATTHEWS: Boy, do I agree with you on that. Completely agree with you. My concern is we’re gonna see a ginning up situation whereby we fall in hot pursuit any effort by the Iranians to interfere with Iraq. We take a couple shots at them, they react, then we bomb the hell out of them and hit their nuclear installations without any without any action by Congress. That’s the scenario I fear, an extra-constitutional war is what I’m worried about.
SNOW: Well, you have been watching too many old movies —
MATTHEWS: No, I’ve been watching the war in Iraq, is what I’ve been watching. As long as you say to me before we leave tonight that the president has to get approval from Congress before making war on Iran.
SNOW: Let me put it this way. The president understands you got to have public support for whatever you do. The reason we are talking to the American public about the high takes in Iraq and why it is absolutely vital to succeed is you’ve got to have public support, and the president certainly, whenever he’s taken major actions, he has gone before Congress.
Tony Snow!!

Indeed.
Except this time the entire world will be dragged into the abyss of nuclear winter as Israel uses mini-nukes. The logic is unfathomable.
January 11th, 2007 at 7:20 pmDid I hear Snow say "before you take action like going to war, you've got to have public support"? (Paraphrased). WOuld that extend to a surge without an end, which is actually a non-escalation of a war that is really augmenting troops with 22,000 more and 100B? I guess the public supports the new non-escalatorious augmentorious surgency, then.

Not true. The inspection team was asking for more time to certify that Iraq was a WMD-free zone. Pres Bush decided to launch an invasion instead.
You are talking about something we are not even discussing.
He is such a bad liar. He got caught in this one lie in the follow-up question. How stupid.

Translation: We used the same lies with Iraq and it worked very well. Why not use them again?
The Iranian public, most which of is young, is very pro-American.
Translation: We will be greeted as liberators.
The president understands you got to have public support for whatever you do.
Translation: The president is aware of the need to catapult the propaganda.
whenever he’s taken major actions, he has gone before Congress.
Translation: He's also aware of the need to manipulate the intelligence and to fix the facts around the policy in order to get Congressional approval.

Alan Dulles recruited MANY nazis into the CIA after the war
Allen Dulles and Prescott Bush were best friends
No doubt this is how George Bush senior got into the CIA in the early 1960s

Not true. Hitler joined the Nazi party on an invitation by the party founders (I don't have the date in front of me, but I believe it was in 1920). They thought they could use his oratorial skills to recruit more members. Hitler, in turn, thought he could use them as a platform for his own views.
If I recall correctly, his joining the party is described in Mein Kampf.

Here is a refresher from yesterdays thread entitled BUSH WARNS IRAN that you refused to read
What is the Democratic Plan to WIN the War in Iraq??????
Comment by Sir Greg Nevins — January 11, 2007 @ 4:06 am
We have not bothered to come up with a plan since we found out your President cooked the intel books to give the go ahead and attack Iraq . Seems we have been too busy with his 109th congress charade .
The plan to WIN in Iraq ? The prerequisite for victory in Iraq is to get Bush/Cheney impeached first and foremost .
We would not NEED a plan to WIN if we had not gone on this little PNAC staged foray in the first place .
Your asking .. What is the Democratic Plan to WIN the War in Iraq??????
Is alot like asking a 5 year old to clean up a spilled gallon of paint .
He was told to stay out of the paint or he might spill it .
He doesnt listen and actually devises methods to not only reach the paint but manages to spill the entire gallon all over the floor .
Now in a heated panic he looks around and has no idea how to fix the mess . Knowing all the way he was wrong but is trying to save face and pride with mom .
The more he wipes and scrubs the worse it gets and spreads .
Finally the parent catches him in his little foray and the child can think of nothing better to say than ..
…WELL MOM ! What is YOUR plan to clean this up ?
This is projection in the first degree .
Greg Nevins you are a mirror image of your fearless leader .

January 11th, 2007 at 8:35 pm[How an "incident" can be used as an excuse for military aggression-ed.]
Dangerous Crossroads: Tonkin II?
"An incident" in the Persian Gulf could be used by the US as a pretext for war against Iran.
A war pretext incident, similar to "the Gulf of Tonkin Incident", which triggered the Vietnam war, could be used by US forces, with a view to justifying retaliatory military action against Iran.
In August 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson claimed that North Vietnamese forces had attacked US destroyers in the Gulf of Tonkin. The Tonkin incident, which had been manipulated, contributed to unleashing a full-fledged war against Vietnam:
"A phantom attack on two U.S. destroyers cruising the Gulf of Tonkin was staged by the Pentagon and the C.I.A. The bogus attack occurred early in August, 1964. That evening President Lyndon Johnson went on television giving the grim details of the non-attack. Later, however, it was revealed that navy commander James Stockdale flew cover over the Gulf of Tonkin that night. Stockdale disclosed that U.S. ships were firing at phantom targets--targets that didn't exist. The Gulf of Tonkin Incident that drew the U.S. into the quagmire of Viet Nam simply didn't happen. Johnson, as presidents so often do, lied to the American people. The result was the rapid passage of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, which was the sole legal basis for the Viet Nam War. As a result of Johnson's lie, three million Vietnamese people and fifty eight thousand U.S. soldiers died." (Charles Sullivan, Global Research, January 2006)

January 11th, 2007 at 8:40 pmBush: "But victory in Iraq will bring something new in the Arab world -- a functioning democracy that polices its territory, upholds the rule of law, respects fundamental human liberties, and answers to its people."
This is the greatest of ironies. Our kids are getting blown up and shot so that Iraq can uphold the rule of law, while America rejects the rule of law with the Military Commissions Act.
More than 3000 female and male soldiers have died so that Iraq can respect fundamental liberties, while America locks up people indefinitely without a hearing.
America has borrowed hundreds of billions of dollars so that the Iraq government will be one which listens to its people, while Bush ignores the American people.

January 11th, 2007 at 8:47 pmIt's not too often that I agree with Tweety but in this case, he is obviously concerned and worried about the possibility of the US provoking Iran into something that will result in a war, or even deliberately setting certain events in order to incite war.
January 11th, 2007 at 8:47 pmBush believes he doesn't need Congressional support.
Recall that in recent weeks, Bejamin Netanyahu said Israel was pressing Bush about taking out Iran's nuclear facilities, and told an Israeli newspaper that it was all but a done deal.
Whether the US does it or Israel does it themselves, the risk of a new and expanded war in the middle East would be the result.
As for Snowjob - who believes what he says anyway?

You didn't know about that? That's pretty widely known. The Bush family had their Union Banking Company seized by the federal government during World War II under the "Trading with the Enemy Act". Guess which enemy. They helped fund Hitler's war machine, while we were fighting Hitler. The Bush family wealth came out of that. The Union Banking Company was also inolved with I.G. Gee, you'd think that awful liberal media that hates Bush so much would have reported on this stuff.

January 11th, 2007 at 9:35 pmI looked it up and you may be right. The Tonkin is used as example probably because of the involvement of a ship; the comparisons between Viet Nam and Iraq, and that the Gulf of Tonkin event occurred in more recent history, but taking the Gliewitz incident as that example is probably more likely.
In any case, I will never take anything said or claimed by Bush&Co at face value. Never. They cannot tell the truth.
I firmly believe that we have no solution to the problem now except that Bush must leave office, resign or be fired, he cannot remain.
Just before his speech last night he told some high ranking reporters; "if you knew what we knew"... Just as he did in 2002 when he was fabricating "evidence" to warrant invading Iraq.
He is not contrite, he has not learned anything, he ignores voters and allies.
He challenged those who oppose him to come up with a plan that he would review (yeah, right). But when the war is lost, as it already is, what possible plan can there be for victory. Victory is not possible in a failed war. What remains only is how to get everyone out safely.

January 11th, 2007 at 9:44 pmSNOW: Ok, but, let me just do a couple of things here.
Phucking Snow. The biggest financier of global terror is the US. "You don't, but we deal with everything militarily."

2. They keep talking about Iran being the fiancer of terrorism. I have a message for Tony Snow. Halliburton has made lots and lots of money in Iran and Iraq despite embargos.
Here's an article from March 7, 2005
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7119752/
Halliburton operates in Iran despite sanctions
How do U.S. contractors legally do business there?
Why should Americans even care if U.S. companies circumvent the sanctions?
"The purpose of these sanctions is to dissuade Iran from supporting terrorism and from seeking to acquire weapons of mass destruction," says Comras.
There's a move in Congress to close the loophole.
"We don't want American companies propping up a government that's dedicated to our destruction," says Sen. Collins.
Halliburton says it is unfairly targeted because of politics, but recently announced it is pulling out of Iran because the business environment "is not conducive to our overall strategies and objectives."
However, that exit will be slow. Halliburton announced it was leaving Iran only three weeks after Iran announced the lucrative new gas deal, which industry sources say will take three years to complete.

January 11th, 2007 at 11:09 pmOff topic but REALLY important. Anderson Cooper had a great report about a Senate bill to stop the payment of pensions to public officials convicted of felonies (like bribery and theft) while in office that was allowed to die in committee...
...some of the Senators on that subcommittee were: Senator John Warner of Virginia, Michigan Senator Carl Levin, Hawaii's Daniel Akaka, and (the KING of hypocrites), Tom Coburn from Oklahoma (I believe)...
Google tis Bill and find out some of the others...
...I emailed THOSE Senators, you should too (if you pay taxes)...
...here's the letter I emailed:
Dear Senator ____,
January 11th, 2007 at 11:14 pmI am emailing about a report I saw concerning Senate Bill 2268 (I believe that is the number), the bill regarding stopping pension payments to Senators (and I assume allother public figures) who are convicted of felonies while serving in public office. I was quite shocked and dismayed to learn that YOU sir are a member of the subcommittee that let this legislation die in committee. How is it conscienable to you (and ANY member of Congress) that during these "austere" times when YOU especially have actively lobbied to have poor single mothers and their children cut from welfare rolls that you can countenance Dan Rostenkowski's receiving over $126,000 per year in pension after being convicted of stealing public funds? How is it that Dan Cunningham will STILL draw a $64,000 per yr pension after being convicted of accepting millions in bribes? Sir I am outraged at you and your colleagues' hypocrisy in continuing to kick this disgraceful can down the proverbial road! I will watch with great interest (and make sure that I alert every citizen within my circle of online bloggers to do likewise) to see what happens with this very important (and timely) issue. I am convinced that under the proper scrutiny more rational heads will prevail, and that the proper action will be taken to pass this sensible bill...VERY soon.

Listen BITCH, I told you that I am a Compassionate Conservative and I was never part of the Reagan Administration. President Reagan was the Greatest President of the 20th Century ---- BAR NONE!!!
Why don't you tell us how great your IDOL, Jimmy Carter was when he drove this Country into the Ground!!!! Go back and read your History!!!
January 11th, 2007 at 11:54 pmAt least these Liberals stand up for the bill of rights and the constitution. How can you stand back and allow Executive orders as such to pass. Either your part of the problem or your part of the solution. Also don’t sit there and disgrace Ronald Reagan’s name by associating your with him.
The Liberals ONLY STAND FOR TAXING THE RICH IN THIS COUNTRY SO THEY CAN RE-DISTRIBUTE IT TO THE LAZY ASSES THAT REFUSE TO WORK!!!! YOU CONSTANTLY PLAY THE CLASS WARFARE GAME AND SIT AROUND ON YOUR FAT ASSES AND CRITISIZE PRESIDENT BUSH.... YOU USE THE CONSTITUTION TO BACK UP ALL OF YOUR BULLSHIT AND RHETORIC!!!!
I Fully Support our Duly Elected President and he has the RIGHT UNDER THE CONSTITUTION -- THAT YOU WANT TO DEFEND TO PASS EXECUTIVE ORDERS!!!!! YOU GO BUSH --- THE GREATEST PRESIDENT OF THE 21ST CENTURY......
January 12th, 2007 at 12:01 amHarry Reid, the Senate majority leader, said: “In choosing to escalate the war, the president virtually stands alone.†He branded the policy a “serious mistake†and predicted that the Senate would vote overwhelmingly to reject it in a non-binding motion.
Harry Reid is a TRAITOR to this Country and he should be arrested and tried for TREASON!!!! Of course what else would you expect from a MORMON!!!!
January 12th, 2007 at 12:09 amPoor Chris Matthews,,,I think he's scrambling to make his Dem credentials acceptable. - or at least on a par with keith O. Note to Chris: if the Dem leadership want to offer you another job, ala Tip O'Neill, they'll call....
Note to Progs - Those with I whom I disagree, yet who seek an Iraqi/US solution to the violent problems in Iraq, I have no quarrel. Those who actively hope for a US defeat are pathetic traitors and unpatriotic.

No you’re a bootlicker. You follow and don't lead. By the way you use homophobic terms I would say yes you are a Foley-NeoCon, very compassionate.... you need to come out of the closet. You expose yourself regarding your hate for Jimmy Carter. This is probably due Jimmy Carter being voted in as an evangelical president, but his policies turned away from the evangelicals, just like Bush sr and Bush jr after him. You say Jimmy Carter drove this country into the ground as if you have the moral character to pass judgment on him, and not pass judgment on his predecessors. You like being controlled. You display this by your over-compensation to try and take control of the blogs. Your over-exaggerations expresses flamboyance....I know who you are? Your Karl Rove....Hey group miss piggy has blessed us with her presences.

Pres Bush, "the best president of the 21st century"? You have to be brain dead to say something like that: He is the only president of the 21st century. On second thought, you might be right.
As for Mitey Coprolite -yes, he's one of our resident trolls, and a fool.
January 12th, 2007 at 1:03 am[...] There seems to be two problems now. The president and administration have demonstrated that they are orbiting some distant galaxy, and Congress must figure out a way to prevent them from doing further damage. Apart from the surge/escalation/augmentation, there has been some rumors about plans for an attack on Iran or Syria. This must not be allowed to happen. Second, Congress must take it upon themselves to figure out a way to change the course of Iraq. Is that possible? I don’t know. Sen. Russ Feingold today made mention of using Congress’s control of the purse strings as way to control the trajectory of the Iraq debacle. [...]

Ronald Reagan LOWERED TAXES, brought down the Berlin WALL, brought on the Total Collapse of the COMMUNISM AND THE USSR!!!!!
January 12th, 2007 at 4:47 amAbdul Qadir Mohammed, a Sunni originally from Anbar Province, said: "Nothing will change. We have heard many similar speeches and nothing happened. We really hope that this new strategy will work but honestly from inside, I feel it will not.
"The Americans should be serious about taking serious measures against the ongoing Iraqi government because it's the main problem at the moment, by backing the militias and the death squads. The best thing I see in this strategy is the sending of new troops into Iraq and the deployment Kurdish troops in Baghdad because both will not serve as death squads like the Interior Ministry commandos who have killed thousands of Iraqis for sectarian reasons."
Hasanain Akram, 34, a doctor who was waiting in a petrol queue, said: "I expect that the new plan will make things even worse because both the Kurdish and the Shia troops from the south will only serve their sects and their people. I think if the Americans want to solve the problems in Iraq they should change the Iraqi government because it's causing the main problems in the country. I'm very pessimistic as everything is bad in this country and there is lack of basic life needs: no electricity, no petrol, not water.
"Nothing is functioning properly in this place. Although I am Shia I refuse to be linked to Maliki and his Shia bloc, and all they have done in this government because they are not representing us and they are very sectarian. So the problem is not with Iraqis, the problem is with the government.
"Instead of sending more troops to kill more Iraqis they should fight against the corruption and sectarianism of the government. I was displaced from Al Adel neighbourhood and may not be able to get back to my house again in my life so what economic improvement are they talking about. Their promises will be just like the last ones that have never been fulfilled."
Barber Ahmed Hussein, 30, a Shia, said: "Bush's lies are countless. He kept on saying the situation in Iraq was very good and improving while Iraqis were killed, tortured and kidnapped so it shows how he says nothing but lies.
"I don't think bringing more American troops will help because these troops don't actually know what are the main problems in this country. Neither do the Kurds because they don't even know the place and the language, so they will be of no help. So how would anybody expect any improvements and solutions for the problems if they don't even understand what the situation is?
"Of course they should work on improving the economy of this country and providing new jobs and fighting unemployment, because most of those who join the militias and the armed groups are desperate jobless young men who had no other choice. But still I doubt that these promises will be fulfilled and I doubt the security situation will improve."
Sa'ed Mohammed, a 25-year-old unemployed Sunni, said: "The security situation will not improve. The new plan will fail just like the previous ones and the occupiers will never build a country and the Americans are helping the militias to destroy the country which is something that goes with the interests of Iran and Israel. The Kurds don't like Arabs anyway, so they will fail here and will not be really willing to help the situation.
Qassim Dawood Mujbil, 28, a labourer, said: "If this new strategy by Bush came only to correct his mistakes and improve his image in his own country - not really taking into consideration the real problems in our country - then it will fail and will be unwelcome."
Sabah Ahmed, a 33-year-old Arabic language teacher and Shia, said: "Bush's new strategy mentioned nothing about the logistic and financial support of the Gulf states to the Sunnis and it was confined to Iran and Syria for obvious political reasons linked to the relations between the two countries and the United States. Bush wants to punish Iran because of its nuclear projects and Syria for supporting Hezbollah in Lebanon, and mentioned nothing about the Saudi support to the Sunni extremists."
Jasim Abbas al-Janabi, 42, Shia, said: "We feel impatient from just waiting and nothing is changing. I am unable to go to Baghdad any more and run my business between Najaf and Baghdad as I used to do in the past. If Bush really wants to solve the problems and destroy militias from both sides I will be the first one to welcome this new strategy, even if it is done by force."
News of the extra troops did not trouble Sunni insurgents who spoke to The Times and vowed to continue their fight until all foreign troops withdrew from Iraq.
Abu Mohammed, fighting with the 1920s Revolution Brigades in northern Iraq, said: "America wants to use a magic stick to turn their dreams and fictions about Iraq into reality, which is impossible. The reason is that America is dealing with people who criticised Saddam in the past for all that he did and nowadays they are doing things that are ten times worse than what Saddam did."
Sunni fighter Ahmed Al Hassani, with Ansar al-Sunna Army in central Iraq and Baghdad, said: "This new strategy was expected. It means nothing to us. We will keep going in our war that does not accept any mid-way solutions. Either they pull out of our country or the war will continue until we achieve victory.
Abu Qutada, a fighting with the al-Rashideen Army: "It's very clear that America failed completely in Iraq in all aspects, as their politicians are saying. But we say defeated, not just failed, and they are nowadays desperate to find a way out of their troubles here."
This week, in Baghdad's Shia slum Sadr City, stronghold of the cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, his widely-feared Mahdi Army ordered every man aged 15-45 to register for combat.
However Mahdi fighters said they had orders not to seek out confrontation with the Americans. "We won't start a fight, but if they do then our people are ready to fight back," one told The Times.

January 12th, 2007 at 5:21 amThis is a FACT:
Michael Chertoff is literally an agent of Israel. He's an Israeli CITIZEN. The head of US Homeland Security is a citizen of ISRAEL.
Joe Lieberman is an AGENT OF ISRAEL.
This is a PROTECTION RACKET.
Did you notice that the ONLY time (until his recent speech) that Bush accepted responsibility for ANYTHING is when he stepped out in front of Chertoff to take the heat for CHERTOFF'S FAILURES on the Katrina debacle?
That's because Bush Works For Israel. Chertoff is Bush's boss - not necessarily by choice - but as a direct result of BLACKMAIL. Israel is blackmailing the entire Bush Cabinet. What began as a co-conspiracy to implement the PNAC plan (including 9/11) has turned into a DOUBLE-CROSS. Israel controls OUR NUKES. They have the targeting and launch codes. NUCLEAR BLACKMAIL.
NUKING IRAN IS LIKUD'S WET DREAM.
MICHAEL LEDEEN is a FOREIGN AGENT.
America has been totally hijacked by Israel. Lieberman's recent path proves it. Rove and the White House adopted the "Elect Lieberman" cause as their own. Staunch Israeli Supporter and REPUBLICAN OPERATIVE Mel Sembler held a fundraiser for Lieberman. This isn't about Democrats vs. Rebublicans. This is about Israel vs. AMERICANS. Lieberman and McCain are on a MISSION FOR ISRAEL.
DO THE MATH FOLKS.
Could it be any more obvious?

January 12th, 2007 at 9:54 amIf Bubble Boy Bush and his neocons attack Iran there will be major ramifications for the US. China will look unfavorably at anything that will interfere with its Energy shipments from Iran. N Korea could easily sell about 50kg of its enriched plutonium to Iran for the right price; After any of its nuke facilities are taken down. Venezuela..China's #2 energy partner could up arm the South American region on a massive scale (oil for arms). General Musharaf could be placed in major jeopardy by the insurgents in that country... Not a pretty picture for world affairs.
January 12th, 2007 at 10:32 am[...] Chris Matthews: My concern is we’re gonna see a ginning up situation whereby we fall in hot pursuit any effort by the Iranians to interfere with Iraq. We take a couple shots at them, they react, then we bomb the hell out of them and hit their nuclear installations without any without any action by Congress. That’s the scenario I fear, an extra-constitutional war is what I’m worried about. [...]

January 12th, 2007 at 10:59 amIt's not going to do us any good to be right about Bush's hard on for Iran. I told you so is an empty victory. We need to stop that murdering bastard now. Impeach, coup, mutiny, fragging.. whatever it takes.
January 12th, 2007 at 11:18 amAs a religious person, I am deeply disturbed by Greg Nevins actions on this board. He displays none of the love and compassion that Jesus Christ himself told us that we should have, yet he claims to be a religious compassionate conservative.
That being said, I think Matthews did a pretty nice job on this clip. He could have pressed harder, but I think he tried not to let Snow sidestep the question.
And to answer the question, I think Bush could care less if the congress or the American people approve of what he does. He will do what he will do because he is serving his own agenda. It sickens me that he tries to use his "religion" to sell these evil plans to the American people. At least most people are starting to come around. My only question is.....what is wrong with the 29 percent of people who actually approve of the presidents' actions?
ARRRGHGGGGHHG.

January 12th, 2007 at 11:37 amJables
I saw that interview. Or perhaps it was different one. The one I saw was far from a grilling of Mr. Snow. I did not see Mr. Matthews challenge Snow on a key statement that Snow made.
He did, however seem to be grilling Senator Dodd in the next interview.
He was insistent in asking Dodd about what the president was thinking.
I was a bit confused as to why he didn't question Snow in this manner.
Also, there was a definite wink, wink, old buddy feel to the Snow interview.

January 12th, 2007 at 3:20 pmThis is a very scary, very revealing interview. Snow will not say that the president will get congressional approval before going to war but he does say that "The president understands you got to have public support for whatever you do."
What they are trying to do is provoke Iran into attacking us to drum up public support for a war.

January 12th, 2007 at 4:02 pmtom baker….I just spoke with Nevin’s Mom. She says that Nevin doesn’t have problems with his weiner when he is with her. She also said she wanted her panties back Sir Greg.
Deat nanlichi, My Mother wouldn't give you the time of ther day... Please tell us ALL what street corner you will be working tonite.... I got $50.00 to spend cuz we all know your a WHORE!!!!!!
January 12th, 2007 at 4:05 pmDear Hector Garcia you can spread your ridiculous hate against Republicans elsewhere. You can commit suicide too and your sorry ass will miraculously dissapear. You will be free of those evil feelings which torment you.
Now why don't you get off your lazy fat ass and volunteer to fight for FREEDOM in Iraq. I DETEST all of you LEFT WING LIBERAL NUTS!!!!!
January 12th, 2007 at 4:08 pm“Violence is the last refuge of the Terroristsâ€
Kind of explains Al Queda actions and Democrats rhetoric.
How about coming up with a PLAN OF YOUR OWN BESIDES SURRENDER IN IRAQ!!!!
Just for the sake of argument, Nevins, here’s a hypothetical…would you back the President even if you, personally, believed he were wrong?
Just asking…
Dear F Chucklenutz — I Firmly believe that George W. Bush made the CORRECT decision to get Authority from Congress to invade Iraq as Saddam Hussein was a Terrorists and Harbored the Al Queda Terrorists and was trying to obtain WMD so he could give them to a Middle East
Terrorist Group so they could KILL THOUSANDS of INNOCENT AMERICANS!!!
You Left Wing Liberals Don't have a CLUE how BAD the Terrorists want to Destroy our Democracy and Kill as many Americans and Jews as they possibly can...... WE MUST STOP THEM IF WE HAVE TO KILL EVERY TERRORISTS IN THE MIDDLE EAST!!!!!!
I SUPPORT OUR COMMANDER-in-CHIEF AND OUR BRAVE TROOPS FIGHTING IN AFGHANISTAN AND IRAQ......
January 12th, 2007 at 4:39 pmYou still haven't answered my question...what? are you not in the state of mind for rational dialogue...would you rather continue to show your ignorance by throwing around insults? Come on...
Here...predicting the type of person you are, I'll get right to the chase...you would probably say "yes" you would back the President even if you thought he were wrong...so...here's something to rustle around those synapses of yours oh so craving intellectual stimuli...
"To announce there must be no criticism of the President, and to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, it is morally treasonous to the American public."
– President Theodore Roosevelt
So...ask yourself, who is unamerican?
Class dismissed...
January 12th, 2007 at 4:43 pmI sure hate Bush - how ’bout the rest of you guys? Is there a way to do a “wave†on a thread, like they do in stadiums?
Hey ASS HOL (tom baker) — That is the only thing that you LEFT WING LIBERAL COMMUNISTS HAVE IN COMMON --- YOUR HATE FOR GEORGE BUSH!!!! IT JUST GOES TO PROVE MY POINT ABOUT YOU NARROW MINDED LIBERAL LOSERS!!!!! GO DRINK SOME MORE KOOL AID..... AND STFU
January 12th, 2007 at 4:44 pmWhat's your basis for saying he was attempting to obtain WMD...
1. The yellowcake...wrong
2. The alliminum tubes...wrong
3. The mobile weapons lab...wrong
I think we all know that the terrorists want to do us harm...but Iraq had nothing to do with it...that country was contained. As far as protecting us...how's your President doing with securing our borders? Or with implementing the 9/11 commission recommendations? Or with buckling down with true nation states that promote fundamentalist Wahhabe Islam?...go ask Bandar Bush on that one.
Wake up, friend, this isn't a democratic or republican issue...this is an issue of competence, and your President has none....
As a former Republican, I can say that hopefully one day you'll wake up and realize you were duped...that's gonna be a sobering day for ya.
January 12th, 2007 at 4:51 pmNevins...has your President made any mistakes?
January 12th, 2007 at 4:58 pmNevins' Mom says she is very sorry that her baby boy is so disturbed and feels responsible for his ranting. She said that maybe Nevins' Dad was a little too forcible when Nevins was but a lad. Or maybe didn't use enough Vaseline.
I think she is sincerely sorry, at least appeared to be.
January 12th, 2007 at 5:28 pmYour comments are all good, but in this place it is preaching to the choir. Be sure to telephone the congress and your senators about these things, especially Lieberman and the Republicans. They've GOT to feel the weight of the masses of American public opinion about this, and the threat of not being reelected.
January 12th, 2007 at 5:45 pmNevins…has your President made any mistakes?
Yes, he made the mistake of NOT sending 50,000 MORE TROOPS to Iraq sooner to squash the Insurgents... I also think he should send Cindy Sheehan, your Anti-War Poster Girl to Iraq and let her convince the Insurgents to lay down their Bombs.... If they think she is NOT worthy of listening too.... OH WELL, SHIT HAPPPENS!!!!! BYE, BYE, CINDY -- and GOOD RIDANCE!!!!!
January 12th, 2007 at 6:04 pmNevins’ Mom says she is very sorry that her baby boy is so Intelligent and feels responsible for his SUPERIOR INTELECT. She said that Nevins’ Dad was a GOOD REPUBLICAN ROLE MODEL when Nevins was but a lad.
I think she is extremely PROUD that her SON grew up to be a model citizen and LOYAL REPUBLICAN GENIUS.
This is typical of the LEFT WING LIBERALS WACKO'S.... They can't DEBATE the issues so they resort to try to SHUT UP the Conservative POINT OF VIEW!!!!! Just further proof that LEFT WING LIBERAL DEMOCRATS ARE COMMPLETLY "WORTHLESS"!!!!
January 12th, 2007 at 6:09 pmYour comments are all good, but in this place it is preaching to the choir. Be sure to telephone the congress and your senators about these things, especially NANCY PELOSI and the DEMOCRATS. They’ve GOT to feel the weight of the masses of American public opinion about this, and the threat of not being reelected. We need to tell our elected politicians in Washington, D.C. that WE SUPPORT OUR PRESIDENT & WE SUPPORT THE TROOPS FIGHTING IN IRAQ!!!!!!
Way to Go Santiago Ogradon — I see that YOU have switched from the Left Wing Narrow Minded DEMONCRATS to the Republican Party!!!! WELCOME..
January 12th, 2007 at 6:13 pmWake up, friend, this isn’t a democratic or republican issue…this is an issue of DEFENDING OUR COUNTRY FROM THE TERROSISTS, and the LEFT WING LIBERAL ASS HOLES WHO ARE ALL YELLOW BELLIED COAWARDS....
As a LOYAL Republican, I can say that hopefully one day you’ll wake up and realize you were duped by the Democratic Party…that’s gonna be a sobering day for ya.
LONG LIVE GEORGE W. BUSH -- OUR GREAT COMMANDER-in-CHIEF!!!!!
January 12th, 2007 at 6:17 pmSo…ask yourself, who is unamerican?
Class dismissed…
DEAR F Chucklenutz — This is a very easy Question to Answer..... The UNAMERICAN MORONS ARE ALL OF THE LEFT WING, ANTI-WAR TALKING HEADS THAT WOULD SURRENDER TO THE TERRORISTS THAN FIGHT THEM AND COMPLETLY DESTROY THEM..... YOU CERTAINLY QUALIFY AS A MEMEBER OF THE UNAMERICAN GROUP!!!!!
January 12th, 2007 at 6:23 pmI have as much USE for Democrats as I do for LAWYERS!!!!
Might I remind you sir most politicians are lawyers.
WRONG AGAIN Zep Tepi — MOST POLITICIANS ARE NOT LAWYERS!!!! THE ONLY ONE I KNOW WAS SLICK WILLY & HIS BITCH OF A WIFE, HILLARY....
SLICK WILL WAS IMPEACHED FOR LYING UNDER OATH AND HAD HIS LAW LICENSE REVOKED BY A FEDERAL JUDGE IN ARKANSAS... HILLARY SHOULD GO BACK TO LAW BECAUSE SHE WILL NEVER GET ELECTED TO BE THE COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THIS COUNTRY!!!!! NOT IN MY LIFETIME....
January 12th, 2007 at 6:27 pmHey Nevins...so you're saying that Bush made the mistake of not sending over enough troops in the first place, huh? Ok, so that was the result of not listening to his generals that stated that a country the size of Iraq would take several (meaning at least three) hundred thousand troops to "put down" any insurgency....know what happened to that general (Shinseki)???...relieved.
So now, again, he's not listening to the generals that "were" on the ground....both Casey and Abizaid said no further troops were needed; that more troops were contraindicated in this situation. Know what happened to both of them...relieved.
Seems to me "The Decider" only wants to hear things that "square" with what he's already decided...just like the "intelligence" that led us into this occupation in the first place...people are real weary of your president once again "fixing intelligence around a policy" and getting us into a war with Iran.
Talk about flip-flopping....he was against sending troops before he was for it. He was against a commission on 9/11 before he was for it. He was for "Stay the Course" before he was against it...
Your president is incompetent...plain and simple...that's not an ad hominum attack...that's just true.
Your president has broken the military.
Your president has cut veterans benefits and combat pay.
Your president has done nothing with that national scar that is the footprint of the World Trade Center.
Your president has done nothing with New Orleans since making a few PR visits post-Katrina (but I guess Mama Bush explained that one in her statement that "so many of them were under-priviledged any, so this is working out very well for them"...the hag).
Your president has squandered not only the good will the world had for us after we were attacked but, more importantly, he has squandered our national treasures: tax-payer money and the lives (and limbs) of this nation's youth.
Don't be a Republican...Don't be a Democrat...Be an Independent, and think for yourself (this would require watching something other than Fox News and listening to the litnany of propogandists on talk radio: Hannity, Limpbaugh, Ingraham, Prager, Medved, et al).

January 12th, 2007 at 6:43 pmUmm wasnt FDR a democrat?
January 12th, 2007 at 6:44 pmwasnt both the congress and house both under democart control for the period of ww2 ?
Didnt FDR provide extensive support for the British during ww2 under "lend lease" agreement. Despite the wishes of the american public to remain out of the war in europe
Didnt FDR under immense stress and presures of the office of the president eventually make the ultimate sacrifice for hes country?
Nevs...your diluted, obtuse, and immaterial. Your rhetoric reminds me of Billy Madison. Therefore, allow me to clue you in:
"Mr. [Nevins], what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things [we] have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
Oh...and by the way...by the way you're writing, I would guess that you're young enough to be in the military...why aren't you over there putting your blood in the game...or do you believe in the Jenna and Barbara philosophy of leaving that to someone else?....Since you support this endeavor (aka. Catastrof#@k) why not support our troops by becoming one...nah, you'd rather look at a gigantic pot of shit and scoop it out for others to eat rather than eat it yourself...coward.

January 12th, 2007 at 8:31 pmIt's amazing that those congressman who only months ago were calling for an increase in forces in Iraq now decry that the new strategy that includes many of their previous "potential solutions" is wrong. It seems the press is not interested in exposing the hypocrisy of those legislators. Pelosi and others (not just democrats) are permitted to live down their own previous statements so long as they are attacking the administration. Bush has admitted his mistakes and has developed a strategy that includes his detractors suggestions. It seems that Pelosi and others are now demonstrating a serious lack of integrity and showing themselves to be nothing more than politically self-interested. If Pelosi and others are divided within themselves (maybe b-polar or schizophrenic), in no way can we expect them to provide the kind leadership that will strengthen and preserve our country in these trying times. May God help us all!

January 13th, 2007 at 5:44 amAs a canadian, I am surprised at how interested in your politics I am. Perhaps from an outside perspective it is easier to see someone else's mistakes. By no means am I saying my country is perfect and doesn't need to be examined itself.
January 13th, 2007 at 11:50 amIs America the land of the people or the land of the leader, honestly? How does your president have no need for the opinion of the people? Unfamiliar with your constitution, I am unaware of the laws that indicate the president is also "commander-in-chief" and how he is able to bypass the laws he is supposed to uphold. Lets say your president found out that Canada was planning an attack on the US to protect its people from an imperical ruler, but that the canadian people were against it....who would he support?
Dear Kharma - You are one of the few Canadian "voices" I have heard on this blog who don't sound like fingernails on the chalk board. Your question,
"Is America the land of the people or the land of the leader, honestly?" deserves an answer. We, the people, select our leaders (to national, local federal and state offices) but there cannot be 535 Commanders-in-chief. A leaders job is to LEAD. During our Civil War, our people had grown EXTREMELY weary of the fight but out leader, President Lincoln would not stray from his purpose to maintain the Union. Iam sure by 1863 there were Northerners who said, "Let's quit the fight, and let the South go." I'm sure there were people in the South who pleaded nightly in their prayers for the President to PLEASE stop the bloodshed and let them secede.
The type of government your question suggests, one in which we all play a "decider" role would come with our homes equipped with vote tally machines connected to Washington DC and in my case, Sacramento and San Diego. Unfortunately, the result would likely be anarchy given our population of almost 300million people.
The US has been extremely fortunate that we have had extreme tragedies affecting our governance and have been able to make smooth transitions of office.
Your next question borders (no pun intended) on the ridiculous:
"Lets say your president found out that Canada was planning an attack on the US to protect its people from an imperical ruler, but that the canadian people were against it….who would he support?"
If our President found that Canada was planning an attack on the US, I would gladly wave good-bye to our northern "neighbour" as it was "taken out". Canadian casualties would be an excellent example of "collateral damage".
Hope this increases your understanding of International Relations.....
January 13th, 2007 at 5:33 pmhehehe, did anyone else notice this in sir whoevers one post:
"I put my MONEY where my mouth is ASS HOLES!!!!"
he puts his money where is mouth is ass holes. that doesn't sound sanitary.
by the way, ive never been to this site before but its glaringly obvious from my short visit that sir greg nevins is a complete and utter dumbass. all insults and CAPS and no substantive arguments. i conducted myself with more dignity online when i was 13 than this guy does now.
January 13th, 2007 at 5:34 pmAs usual, TONY SNOW-JOB BLOWS. He loves to nit-pick over semantics and just eecks by with the barest of an answer. If these wise guys weren't so busy covering thier sorry asses, just think of all they might accomplish. Hmmm...
January 13th, 2007 at 6:17 pmBy the way, Sir Greg Nevins: Judging by your mastery of language, I think that it's sad you were never able to get your high school diploma. It's gets pretty rough out there at times, trying to express your constitution rights, doesn't it?
Greg's sparkling wit will surely impress the insurgents, who will then lay down thier arms and embrace him as thier new target practice buddy. Bloody, right on, chap! Pip, pip, and all that crap.
January 13th, 2007 at 6:43 pmHas anyone noticed lately how most of the blog comments in support of Bush and the adminitration seem to be of British origin? What's with that, anyway?
Dear mighty aphrodite,
I am really impressed with your evidence to your point. Finally, a conservative who isn't only spewing insults instead of evidence. Good to know about the whole Lincoln thing. Seems like a leader is definitely necessary when trying to form yourself into a new country and identity. Is this what Bush is trying to create in Iraq?
Unfortunatley, I see now where the American stereotype comes into play with your response to my question about Canada planning an attack (I agree with the ridiculous-ness of that possibility) on the US. It seems that an American Motto would perhaps be: "Attack first, ask questions later". I had hoped that as humans evolved, we would use less braun and more brains. Too bad all the brauns wouldn't just live together in the chaos/war they want to pursue. And maybe the brains could work together to figure out a way to live in peace, without losing our differences.
Something to think abooot.
P.S. Thanks for aiding in the whole global warming thing. As it's warming up, we are finally getting our canadian winters without snow! It's the Caribbean I've always wanted!

The Abominable Snow Man is exactly what the Bushmen want to addle the minds of the public. Yellow Snow has hundreds of smartass little answers to move away from the truth. Rove and Cheney must love him to pieces. Poor Tony is on medication, for sure, from his recent serious illness. It is sad for him. But why do we have to listen.
