As much as I respect you, since you’ve been a congenial and thoughtful poster for as long as I’ve been perusing TP, buildings do not just freefall without demolitions. Yes, buildings are mostly air. But a skyscraper is constructed of incredibly strong steel girders that don’t just melt or shatter, and certainly not in a unilaterally even spread across the width of a building. Even the weight of all that steel collapsing in upon itself simply does not allow for a freefall. One layer hits the next layer, which halts the freefall for just a moment. There is vastly more resistance in such a fall than air resistance, which is absolutely, 100% proven able to prevent an object from accelerating all the way to terminal velocity. That is one of the specific reasons why they have to use demolitions…to powderize the layers below the freefall as the building collapses in upon itself in such a manner as to prevent that resistance from occurring.

Next, there are virtually no instances of a fire, or even an explosion causing any building, much less a skyscraper, to collapse. In the extremely rare cases when they have, the buildings have been smaller, the fire far hotter than mere airline fuel burning off, and the fire has raged for far, far longer than those in the Towers. Moreover, the likelyhood of a building fire causing a skyscraper to fall straight down is incredibly tiny. A building is far more likely to fall at an angle, especially once the portion above the fire impacts the portion below the fire. That is another major reason for demolitions, to prevent the fall from straying. What’s more, the Towers were specifically designed to withstand temperatures far in excess of that airline fuel is capable of. Nearly twice as hot, in fact.

We are honestly supposed to believe that a fall with such incredibly small odds of occuring once happened not once, not twice, but three times in just a matter of hours? The statistical likelyhood of that occuring is…well, it’s just beyond staggering.

Like others here, I did not believe that there was a conspiracy of this sort for years after 9/11. But the evidence that something is severely amiss is just too overwhelming. The fact that the administration flat out refused any sort of investigation until long after the pieces of the building were sold off for scrap metal is downright frightening. I want to know who did it, why they did and, and how they did it. If it ends up being terrorists, again, awesome. But at this point, the answer that supports the evidence is far more depressing and frightening than Al Qaeda could ever hope to be. And that is just the physical evidence. That doesn’t even cover the possible insurance scam and insider trading informatio.

It’s not that the Dems don’t have a plan. They just don’t have one that Bush or the Repubs in the 109th agreed to. Murtha wanted to redepoy the troops, but oh no, we couldn’t do that.

Bush said that he’d pull out America’s troops if the Iraqi government asked. They asked. He ignored them. It’s on TP if you know how to use the search option.

Saw Katie Couric interview a commander on CBS News last week. He said that historically speaking, it takes about 10 years to quell an insurgency. Are you ready to commit our troops, including possibly one that is a member of your family or a friend’s family, to 6 more years of Iraqi occupation?

And what of Bush’s plan? Is he going to smack the Iraqis on the hands if his “new way forward” doesn’t work? Oh wait…the only negative thing that will happen if the Iraqis don’t take advantage of our escalation and stand up so that we can stand down will be that they will lose the support of the American people. Yeah…that’ll get them moving.

I agree with those who feel that this person is not contributing to the discussion and is violating a host of site policy.

He should be tossed out with the rest of the trash.

Buildings are 95% air (it’s how you inhabit them). They only ever fall, like everything else that isn’t solid, at 32 ft per second squared (this means that they accelerate as they fall). Traditional explosives are not necessary… Though a plane filled with jet fuel that explodes could be considered the only necessary force. Physically it was enough.

I’ve studied physics, statics and engineering. I then practiced it for 14 years in the industry.

What astounding reasoning! One wrong deed (that saved the lives of millions and millions of people from genocide, and, of course, let us fight the fascists before they truly could achieve world domination) totally deserves another horribly wrong deed to level it all out! Especially when there is a (multi-)generational gap, and neither party has the same agenda it once did. Oh, and don’t forget, those Dixie-crats who up and left the Republican party (or were they kicked out; Who cares, right?)
