ABC’s The Note: Bush Gave His ‘Best TV Performance In Years’ On 60 Minutes»

60minPresident Bush appeared on CBS’s 60 Minutes on Sunday night. A host of media and conservative blogs were not terribly impressed with his performance:

New York Times blog:

“Not much is new in the interview.”

Houston Chronicle blog:

“It’s not surprising to see Bush digging in his heels, avoiding difficult realities, or simply inventing a new narrative that suits him better.”

Conservative Real Clear Politics blog:

“As far as compelling television goes, Bush’s interview with Scott Pelley on 60 Minutes pales in comparison to Leslie Stahl’s sit down with the families of the Duke lacrosse players…”

Rush Limbaugh:

“I don’t care how you thought he did, I don’t know how many people watched it after CBS put these leaks out that Bush admitted this and said he was sorry and made Iraq worse and all this sort of stuff. The war at home here is a political war. Why then go to 60 Minutes?”

But ABC’s The Note — headed by an individual who has declared that traditional media have a liberal bias — came to a different conclusion:

On Iraq, the President had his best TV performance in years, minueting with Scott Pelley on “60 Minutes,” but that was largely offset by the grim news coverage out of Iraq (and the Gang of 500 mindset, which demands a fight over funding).”

Are they insane? I watched it, both his mouth and his body language told “lies” constantly. I laughed out loud when the interviewer brought up the fact that Americans feel that the administration has been dishonest with them, and Bush said “On which issue?” Ding-ding!

  2. Clyde the Ripper Says:

“On Iraq, the President had his best TV performance in years.”

So what? He had so much room for improvement that if he just peed his pants it would be his best performance. Judging from the shit-eating grin on his face that may well be the case.

  3. tarazan Says:

And when Scott Pelly asked Bush:”You mentioned mistakes were made in your speech, what are they?” Bush said..’What..mistakes..O’ like when I said..’Bring it on’, I should not have said that…’ Bush thinks this is big and major mistake in Iraq .!!!

You could have simply changed the channel and have avoided the spike in your blood pressure. Life is too short to spend time watching things that upset you… unless you’re into that sort of thing…

  14. nothstine Says:

Actually, I think it’s quite possible for Limbaugh, et al, to be correct [it was a poor performance], and for The Note to be correct [best performance in years].

His public performances have been increasingly lame and the American public has been less and less interested in them for some time now. If his ‘60 Minutes’ appearance was only slightly less-worse than usual, it would technically qualify as one of his better recent efforts.

So people should avoid reality, like Bush does? He admitted that he did not watch the entire video of Saddam’s execution, and, after stumbling around and being prompted by the interviewer, he admitted that he did not want to watch Saddam going through the trap door. As President of the supposedly most powerful nation on earth, as the Commander-in-Chief, blah, blah, blah, he apparently could not stomach watching someone die. Maybe if he did see something that horrible, just once, he might gain an inkling as to what the Iraqi people and our soldiers are going through.

Col. George Nelson, U.S. Air Force (ret) – Former U.S. Air Force aircraft accident investigator and airplane parts authority. 34-year Air Force career.

Essay: “In all my years of direct and indirect participation, I never witnessed nor even heard of an aircraft loss, where the wreckage was accessible, that prevented investigators from finding enough hard evidence to positively identify the make, model, and specific registration number of the aircraft — and in most cases the precise cause of the accident. …

The government alleges that four wide-body airliners crashed on the morning of September 11 2001, resulting in the deaths of more than 3,000 human beings, yet not one piece of hard aircraft evidence has been produced in an attempt to positively identify any of the four aircraft. On the contrary, it seems only that all potential evidence was deliberately kept hidden from public view. …

With all the evidence readily available at the Pentagon crash site, any unbiased rational investigator could only conclude that a Boeing 757 did not fly into the Pentagon as alleged. Similarly, with all the evidence available at the Pennsylvania crash site, it was most doubtful that a passenger airliner caused the obvious hole in the ground and certainly not the Boeing 757 as alleged. …

As painful and heartbreaking as was the loss of innocent lives and the lingering health problems of thousands more, a most troublesome and nightmarish probability remains that so many Americans appear to be involved in the most heinous conspiracy in our country’s history.” http://www.physics911.net

“States have the power and authority to speak out on issues that will impact them and their citizens,” said Steve Doherty and David Sirota, Co-Chairs of Progressive States Network. “This escalation will have major costs – in terms of human lives, in terms of state budgets, and in terms of National Guard readiness.”

Condoning is a funny word for where we are today. Do you condone atomic bombs? I don’t either, but here we are.

Executive Orders going back to the early 1900s are by definition NOT an emergency. In case of national emergency — real or manufactured — our human rights will be abridged, just as they have during other crises. The real question is not ‘does this coup plan on some sort of martial law,’ the answer to which is ‘of course’ — the real question is DO THEY HAVE THE MANPOWER? And the answer is NO.

    Not enough BY FAR.

Like I said, 100,000 NG to hold down Los Angeles alone. BW is no better than NG — and in fact a whole lot worse from the standpoint of actual control.

The National Guard need to be returned to their states — Congress must break Bush’s claim on unlimited power, and will. But your flapping your arms around warning of Bushco completing their seizure of power ignores many, many factors, not least of which is that Bushco doesn’t have the kind of public support it would need to lockdown the nation.

Anyone with half a whatever realizes that interview and speech were much of the same ol’ same ol’

There is Liberal Bias in the media whenever they use one of those big words.

Joonyah said Saddam’s hanging looked like a revenge killing. What, did they mock him as begging “please don’t kill me”?

You must get awfully tired doing all that cutting and pasting. What are you really, a trust-fund baby? ‘Cause we all work, yet you can be found posting here under any one of, what? thirty names, not counting the ones you steal, any time day or night. For what? Do you think this is going to drive us away? I’ve been here for over three years, and have seen many trolls come and go. I’ll still be here, after you’ve decided on some more important target, and so will the others. We have the patience to wait you out. We waited for six years to resume control, and we’ve got a mission to restore this country to the America we once knew and still love.

    And I’m still Barfly.

Right, then you can accuse us of not watching the interview, and taking things out of context. Thank you for playing eatsh!tanddie.

You’ve got to be one of the most miserable people on the planet. People like you eat, sleep, and breathe your hatred for Bush every single day. Even though you hate the guy, you’ll suffer through an entire interview just so you can get on line and share your sick obsession with others like yourself. You also detest Fox News, yet many of you appear to watch it far more than any conservatives I know. What drives this kind of behavior? It’s not healthy to constantly engage issues that are clearly upsetting to you. My comment to katy was friendly in nature. If watching Bush in an interview raises her blood pressure, then why watch it? It’s just not worth getting that upset over.

I agree. I don’t watch Faux News, CNN, ABC or any other corporate “News”.
I also don’t watch the Bush speak ANYWHERE. I don’t watch war criminals smirking on my tv. Who needs that.

  86. Dennis Says:

Bush’ performance was pathetic both in content and in delivery, due in part to the ever present smirk. And it was his best ever. What does that tell you about Bushy?

  87. 2 war vet Says:

A dreary day where I live today. I sure needed that laugh from ABC. Bush will go down in history as the most prolific liar to ever sit in the Oval Office! When he was appointed by the Slurpeme Court, America was headed downhill.

Something most people do not know. The Miami Hearld did re-count the votes in Florida, And guess what. Gore was elected President. Think how much better off we would be now with a President Gore. He knew the danger’s of Al Quida. Bush was told about the danger’s of Al Quida by President Clinton. But he had his own agenda, IRAQ!!!

The tale of Bushie. Knew about the first plane that hit the Trade Center before he entered the school in Sarasota. His remark “Must have been a bad pilot.” When he was sitting on the chair in the classroom looking like Alfred E. Newman, He was told about the second Plane hitting the second tower. What does he do? Sit’s on that chair for SEVEN minutes before leaving and heading west to a bunker! Then the coward he is heads back to Washington and put’s on a performance worthy of an OSCAR!

Does any one not realize that FAUX program “24″ on Monday was another one of the State TV for DUMBYA to instill more fear into the American people!!!

Madame Knucklehead aka Sir Knucklehead, Where are you?

  88. Jefferson Davis Hogg Says:

    Worst. President. Ever.

There is just too much evidence. GWB is a criminal.

  89. Mark F. Says:

My favorite part of the interview was when Bush stated that “decisions” had made things less stable in Iraq. Not “my decisions”, or “our decisions” or “decisions by my administration”. Just “decisions”. The guy is such an arrogant, spineless coward that even when he accepts responsibility for his mistakes, he can’t bring himself to say the words. Those pesky decisions. Always causing instability in the world. What’s a president to do?
