“Army Chief of Staff General Pete Schoomaker has told a key House panel that the president’s new plan for Iraq stands a ‘50/50 chance’ of success, per one Republican and one Democratic source. Schoomaker appeared at a closed-door meeting of the defense subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee to discuss military readiness.”
Pretty much everything has a 50/50 chance in some sense of the word. Jeez
January 17th, 2007 at 4:56 pmWill the coin toss be televised?
January 17th, 2007 at 5:00 pmridiculously optimistic
I give it a 0 percent chance.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:02 pmI give it a 100% chance of being a protracted defeat and withdrawal for the US. Bush will spin it as a phased redeployment after a few months of ultra-bloody battle.
War in Iraq, bad idea before and still a bad idea.

n. Informal
One who takes a position of neutrality or indecision, as in a controversial matter.
I think that about sums it up.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:15 pmI think the Colts have a 50/50 chance of going to the SuperBowl, as well as the Bears.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:30 pmThat’s what I think!
…a success at what? just assume that the surge completely pacifies Baghdad, the absolute best-case scenario. well then what? insurgents will just have moved somewhere else. forgive the cliche, but uh, this one has the benefit of accuracy, that insurgents dont have to win any battles to win the war, they merely have to forestall organization collapse. in other words, to keep exisiting, you know, not very hard. if our leaders paid the slightest attention they’d know this already, instead of sending more people to get shot for something that cant work.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:31 pmWay to go out on a limb with that prediction.
Nice and cozy now, we wouldn’t want to offend anyone by predicting FAILURE.
January 17th, 2007 at 5:37 pmA 50% chance for what?
I have yet to see these “Victory Conditions” enumerated in any logical way.
Please send me the list if you have it.
How can we ever attain victory when they continually move the finish line?
January 17th, 2007 at 5:50 pmBush was against augmenting his war before he was for it.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:00 pmThe secret I learned in Statistics in College very definitely applies to DUHbya: With a 50/50 chance he will be wrong 95% of the time. The possibility of him being right is exactly 50/50 ’cause there ain’t no ties. The probability of him being right, however, given his track record, and abnormal level of intelligence (low that is) is about the same as Ann Coulter hiring Barack Obama for her butler. As they say, somewhere between zero and none.
Speaking if Senator Obama, the major fault the neocons can find, other than being intelligent, attractive, caring, able, black, with a “four letter ” word for a middle name, is his lack of experience. Judging from the effing mess DUHbya has left us with his experience I would say the less the better. He sure as hell can’t do worse.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:11 pm#9 Smack
DUHbya compalins that when he finally is holding all the cards he discovers his opponent is playing chess.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:13 pmThat sounds like a mandate to me. Success is guaranteed.
January 17th, 2007 at 6:17 pm50/50?? Is that how we’re managing the war now? We are reduced to a coin toss?
January 17th, 2007 at 7:03 pmBush must go and take his whole damn group with him.
GWB’s twins need to go to war. Maybe he can pick which one of the twins is going to die.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:08 pmI agree with #11 (Clyde). If you treat it like a coin toss, you have a 50/50 chance (independent trials with two outcomes). but it isn’t a coin toss. The chances of “success” as fearless leader has described at virtually nil. But nobody really knows what the neocon defintion of success means. It could be just the oil. It could be just to touch off the Middle East powder keg to see if something they like comes out of it. For some of them, it may be that this is the neccessary precursor to Armageddon.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:15 pmOooooh,
Harsh, Zooey. You don’t want to kill a “Hello Kitty” girl?…
(remember? Showing up drunk on the WH lawn with a hello kitty t-shirt and flip-flops, and nothin’ else?)
Of course we can’t know for sure if it’s really Zooey because there is no oversight.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:16 pmgogreen,
January 17th, 2007 at 7:18 pmYes. I agree.
Clyde is a wise man.
:)
Of course we can’t know for sure if it’s really Zooey because there is no oversight.

That was the real me, true. :)
Besides, it wouldn’t be me killing the Hello Kitty girl, it’s their dad’s war.
January 17th, 2007 at 7:22 pmI have a definite meaning of success which is recognized worldwide. The departure of fearless and his entire crew forthwith, preferably to a maximum security federal pen, with Dumbya in the psychiatric ward/
January 17th, 2007 at 7:32 pmWanted to be sure it was your rapier wit, Zooey!!!
Can’t be too careful.
Now that I know,… damn! that was sarcastic!
;)
January 17th, 2007 at 8:05 pmOMG, are you guys talking about “Hello Kitty” stuff?
I shouldn’t start.
This is actually serious. Do you think giving it a 50/50 chance is like the fence-sitting answer, the “safe” answer. That’s what I tell people when I am trying to be safe, or don’t really have an answer. “I’ll give it a fitty-fitty” yeah thats it.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:05 pmFunny thing is, some people who used to be friends of ours, they turned out to be pretty lame. Well anyway the guy’s wife was totally into hello kitty, so if someone needs a target…
Just kidding. Heh.
January 17th, 2007 at 8:07 pmThe army generals (particularly the ones still serving) will say anything to support the commander-in-chief. They will throw their men in the meat grinder as fast as the Secretary of Defense or the Commander-in-Chief.
January 17th, 2007 at 9:57 pm50/50 = “i haven’t gotta fraggin clue but i’m sure as shoot not gonna tell you that.”
January 18th, 2007 at 4:19 amA daed man stops trying, a winner is one who perseveres. Perseverence is the NPV of success and failure is te stepping stone to success, life teaches you at any age, be ready for the lessons.
