Santorum: Bush’s Iraq Approach Is ‘Lincolnesque’»

Today on Fox News, former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) said President Bush’s approach to the war in Iraq, particularly his recent speech, was “Lincolnesque.”

Fox Host Martha MacCallum asked Santorum what he thought of the criticism that President Bush “is just going his own way, not listening to the people, not listening to Congress.” Santorum responded, “Good for him.” Santorum also added that Bush understands, but most people aren’t aware, that we are already at war with Iran. Watch it:

Transcript:

SANTORUM: Well, I am very encouraged by not just the speech of the things he has done over the past few weeks to, I think, heighten the awareness of the gravity of the enemy we are fighting. Particularly the focus he has given to Iran and Syria, but mostly iran. I think we’ve seen in the last several days with the storming of the Iranian compound and the type of people that are captured there, the Intel people, folks who support terrorism within iran in Iraq right now, have been there, have been fighting Moqtada al-Sadr and his brigades, as well as the secret police force in Iran having a huge — having a huge presence in Iraq. It is an indication of the kind of war that we are engaged in right now, although most people do not recognize it, with Iran.

MACCALLUM: You say most people do not recognize it, and the talk you hear a lot these days is that the president is just going his own way, not listening to the people, not listening to congress. What do you have to say about that?

SANTORUM: Good for him. What i would say is that the Commander-in-Chief in the United States, in Lincoln-esque type of form, has to understand the information that he is given, the the vast — that the vast majority of which the american public do not have, and he has to act in the national security interest of this country.

  1. Uncle_Ho Says:

The electorate got rid of Santorum, now if we could only be rid of Bush….

  2. Dave von Ebers Says:

“Lincolnesque.” Fantastic. Maybe Santorum needs to watch David Letterman’s regular feature, “Great Moments in Presidential Speeches.”

  3. elvisgoat Says:

    Moron Alert

  4. pgl Says:

Santorum dismisses listening to voters? Ha! That’s why he’s no longer in the Senate.

  5. emerald Says:

Good for him. Can’t have a decent dictatorship if Dear Leader listens to the people!!!

Santorum continues to demonstrate he has no understanding of the American constitution or values. He has yet to figure out that is why he no longer gets a paycheck from the Amreican people.

  6. Bluedog49 Says:

“President Clinton is once again releasing American military might on a foreign country with an ill-defined objective and no exit strategy. He has yet to tell the Congress how much this operation will cost. And he has not informed our nation’s armed forces about how long they will be
away from home. These strikes do not make for a sound foreign policy.”

    -Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA)

  7. Tweedster Says:

Lincoln-esque? If you set Dub on fire he wouldn’t even be Lincoln log-esque (the sulfur smell and all…)

This is great, first an illegal war and now one that was declared in secret? Bush seems to really aim for that quip about his legacy, “They’ll all be dead before my legacy is set.” Oh, wait, didn’t he say he’d be dead before that happens?

He’s going about that completely the wrong way by provoking a nation with armed forces and munitions China would be scared to try and take on in direct conflict. Maybe we’ll just bomb them and provoke a volley of nukular warheads!

  8. Hardy Haberman Says:

    Santorum’s coments are Orwellesque.

  9. Tom Says:

And Little Ricky’s approach is “Robert E. Lee”ish.

I swear. This guy is about dumb as a stump — kinda like he and GDumbya were separated at birth.

  10. emerald Says:

“Good for him.” Can’t have a decent dictatorship if you are listening to the people!

Santorum continues to demonstrate he knows nothing about the American constitution. And he apparently never connected the dots…his unAmerican pronouncements and attitudes is why he no longer collects a paycheck from the American people.

  11. hellinabucket Says:

This is the same man that said: Isn’t that the ultimate homeland security, standing up and defending marriage?

Let’s see where the similarities end. They both slept in the White House, they both……………..

  12. chimpeach Says:

Why don’t you just go piss on Lincoln’s grave while you’re at it, asswipe.

Most relevant comment i’ve seen all day.

  14. Keith H. Says:

SANTORUM: Good for him. What i would say is that the Commander-in-Chief in the United States . . .

That’s just about it, isn’t it Rickey ?
The operative words being ‘What I would say’ . . .

The garbage that is on fox is just that . . . the GOP’s opinion / agenda.

I’m thinking their ratings are soon to be so low that they resort to putting
guys like this in a rubber chicken suit before ‘catapulting the propeganda’.

  15. Tom Says:

Just look at the split-screen picture of Little Ricky and GDumbya in the story. What a couple of ignorant, dweebish chickenhawks.

  16. Snakefoot Says:

I sense a bitterness from Little Rickey, he is so irrelevant, who cares what he thinks. If I could I would post a photo of him standing with his streaming in tears daughter after looosing his re-election bid. The door really hit ass on the way out, good riddance!!!!

  17. pgw Says:

is he referring to lincoln, nebraska, when he uses that word?

  18. Jeffrey Stewart Says:

WHY? Why is the US at war with Iran?

Also, note that in every “news” story Iran’s president is described as “hard line.”

  19. Bluedog49 Says:

    JP, thanks!

  20. Badger Says:

Fox News is State Run Television…just like in the cold war. Bush never understood the differences between Sunni and Shiite…a tragic mistake for someone contemplating a war in Iraq. Lincoln knew a rebel from a yankee…that’s why he’s on the penny.

  21. Exley Says:

BlueDog, Out of curiousity, to what military action was Santorum referring in that statement? Kosovo?

  22. tom baker Says:

This one I actually did laugh out loud at…..

  23. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

    Bush is very Lincolnesque:

  24. DieNowForPeace Says:

    Santorum’s comment is “douchesque.”

  25. Bluedog49 Says:

Exley, I don’t know which part of the Baltic war he was referring to. It isn’t really material to the point I was trying to make which was to point out Santorum’s incredible hypocracy and double-standards. A Democratic Commander-in-chief stands up to fulfill his treaty obligations under NATO and republicans were suddenly doves, sitting around singing Cumbaya and talking about mothers and family loss.

A Republican Commander-in-chief rushes into a war of choice for unclear reasons and with questionable justification — to question this is tantamount to treason in Santorum’s mind.

  26. Bluedog49 Says:

    Douchesque!!!!???? Beautiful!

  27. upside00 Says:

Too Funny!!! Lil Ricky can’t win an incumbant election so he ends up on Loser News. Glad to see Faux Non-newz is still scraping the bottom of the pond for their ‘experts’.

  28. katy Says:

…interesting… just yesterday, i think, rachel maddow was wondering where ricky went… she’s gonna love this one…
and a caller to sam’s show was bemoaning men who wear pink ties, when the subject was feminization of american males… remember the picture of santorum in his blue seersucker suit and pink tie? … hmmmm…

so, what is ricky up to these days? …
    besides faux snews consultant…

  32. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

24 OK, damn. I tried to type something clever. Accidentally hit the enter button too soon.

Bush is only Lincolnesque if you are referring to the Lincoln penny: not worth what it takes to make it and a nuisance to carry around.

  33. the liberal press Says:

    #9…”Santorum’s coments are Orwellesque.”

    LOL!! Worth repeating.

  34. Badger Says:

26 I hope you meant to say Balkan war. I hope clinton didn,t send troops to estonia without me knowing it .

  35. erock Says:

That sounds nothing like Bush. In fact, I suspect that Bush couldn’t read much less pronounce half those words.

  36. n Says:

why is anyone talking to this idiot? oh, i see it’s on fox. never mind

  37. Anonymous Says:

    One big difference Exley:

  38. SouthWest Bob Says:

Gosh, what a put down…. I’m sure george was wanting to hear that he’s God like. . . after all, he claims to have a direct line to the big guy!

  39. Peter Says:

I think the correct term for men like Santorum is “lickspittle”.

  40. PeterW Says:

What i would say is that the Commander-in-Chief in the United States,

The President is Commander-in-Chief of the military only, former Senator Lickspittle Santorum. The fact that you call him imperator of the whole country reveals the fact that what the right really wants in this country is a military dictator.

  41. tarazan Says:

It is good that such brain is no longer represent anybody in the Senate..the ‘Yes,Sir’…mentality he has. So, what he is saying is that it is OK to ignore the people and the Congress…when asked:”….Good for him….’ I don’t know why FOX keep bringing this guy for a chat….he lost big time last Novemebr inspite of all these ridiculous statments that he made during his campaign and his commercials like the one inside the wrestling ring…and many others.

  42. Exley Says:

Anonymous, But the main point is that Clinton was rejecting the idea of congressional restrictions on his ability to send troops to Bosnia or Haiti, saying it undermined his constitutional authority as commander-in-chief….

  43. Badger Says:

When Bush ran for president…everyone agreed that he had almost NO foreign policy experieince…but he had Colin Powell. Unfortunately for us all…he didn’t listen to him!!!! The Powell doctrine ….maybee it should have heeded.

  44. ForTruth Says:

Yeah Exley, but we LIKED Clinton, we DON’T LIKE your stupid little alcoholic monkey.

  45. Exley Says:

Heh! Well, that’s kinda the point, I guess, ForTruth…It all depends on whose ox is being gored.

  46. circusfifthfloor Says:

Thanks Blue. Some of these JR. varsity trolls ( that means you too EX ), are either under twenty years of age or well, gosh, uh, you know, bloody stupid… read a newspaper sometime. And not Rev Moon’s…Bluedog was of course referring to the Korean War. That’ll keep Em busy for awhile.

  47. Badger Says:

Our Ox is being gored BIG TIME in Iraq. As I recall….no Americans died in our Balkan intervention.

  48. Loonie Says:

Jesus. Sick Rantorum makes me want to vomit so hard that my intestines implode.

  49. upside00 Says:

Anonymous, But the main point is that Clinton was rejecting the idea of congressional restrictions on his ability to send troops to Bosnia or Haiti, saying it undermined his constitutional authority as commander-in-chief….

    Comment by Exley

And tell me again how many troops were killed and maimed under Clinton’s efforts? And how many TRILLION dollars did he consume?

Bush can’t figure out where to begin to be a C-in-C or a President. It’s kinda like expecting a grade school drop out to discover penicillin.

But then the 20 percenters still following blindly in his Hitler-esque wake don’t know the difference any way.

  50. Jason M. Hendler Says:

Where is the thread that talks about Harry “Who’s My Daddy” Reid trying to block the Senate’s version of Pelosi’s legislation that demands all sources / backers of “earmarks” be disclosed to the public? A Republican actually led the charge against Harry “My Mother Worked in Multiple Whorehouses” Reid, and forced the Senate to pass legislation identicle to the House of Representatives.

Are you not going to hold your own party members against your progressive standards? What purpose does this blog serve, if you don’t hold your own party to account?

  51. ForTruth Says:

Yup Exley, I went straight to it. No long winded rhetorical discussions.

All talk can be boiled down to a few meaningful words.

Clinton’s cool, Bush is a moron. See.

  52. Exley Says:

Upside00 and Badger, The point is that Clinton was making the same constitutional argument about that president’s primacy in the conduct of military affairs as Bush is today…In fact, pretty much every president in the post-World War II era has made that argument, regardless of party.

p.s. Why did the 1993 Washington Post article re: Clinton and Congress come down?

  53. Exley Says:

Well, I gotta admire your honesty, ForTruth!

  54. zenster666 Says:

Yup. The decider has this vast, vast pool of information that we don’t have. Trust the decider. Or share the information. We’re not all ivy league coat-tail riders. We can decide for ourselves if the policy is sound. Nope. Listen to Ricky. Trust the decider. Tricky FOX. Ha ha.

  55. ForTruth Says:

    Exley good point, thanks.

I still think a competent President should use that power, and not abuse it. Do you need to hear what I would say next?

Lincolnesque as in shot through the head and dead?

  58. Badger Says:

Bush got damn near EVERYTHING he wanted from the congress, and the American people and he BLEW IT, due to lethal INCOMPETENCE. Constitutional Arguments are beside the point….when you lose the support of the American People.

  59. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) Says:

Look, up in the thread! It’s a bird, it’s a plane. No, it’s Urban Heat, the strange visitor from another planet who comes to support lies, injustice, and un-American policies.

    Oh God…here we go again…

Jason, you probably don’t remember trotting out this pejorative little pearl..after all, it was a whole day ago. You almost certainly don’t remember how I handed your ass to you then…I’ve noticed you tend to block out unpleasant memories like those.

So, you can revisit it here, since I don’t have the patience to slap you down all over again.

  61. Kid Clu Says:

I believe the proper term for Bush’s speech is “Looney-esque.”

  62. ForTruth Says:

  64. Victor Laszlo Says:

This why Little Ricky should understand why he is “unemployed” now.

  65. Tap Duncan Says:

Lincoln was a man with so much honor. He had more honor in his little finger than shrub has in his whole body. Santorum is a lunatic, he will always be a loser trying to justify his position in American politics. Unfortunately, 70% of the public think differently. Santorum doesn’t have enough credebility to carry one of Lincolns’ books back to whom he borrowed it from. I pray for the day that we are rid of these assholes who don’t have any flesh in the “game”

  66. TripMaster Monkey Says:

Thanks, trueblue. Jason’s a pretty easy target, though…

I’m always surprized when they come back for more…

Jason’s strategy is to pretend I didn’t respond, wait until I seem like I’m not on anymore, and then post the same old tired crap. I’ve been trying to demonstrate to him that that strategy isn’t going to work, but I don’t think he has a backup plan. ^_^

  67. Tom Says:

Little Ricky may be on to something here. Lincolnesque . . . hmmmmm.

Hey, GDumbya. Have you seen any good plays lately? You really do need to get to the theater every once in awhile.

  68. Tom Says:

    Lincolnesque?

    I don’t think so.

    How about chimpesque –> http://thumbsnap.com/v/6YvXAPG0.jpg

    Yup. That’s the ticket!

  69. Marie Says:

OT - sorry, but I have to ask:
Last night I watched Boston Legal which dealt with innocent Americans being placed on the no-fly list, and today I see that the Bushies have asked that citizens who have been mistakenly placed on the list be allowed to apply to have their names removed.
    Just a coincidence?

  70. Marie Says:

I had hoped we had seen the last of Li’l Ricky.

  71. JMG Says:

Santorum’s stupidity isn’t even historically accurate (surprise!). Lincoln had an acute ear for and respect for public opinion throughout the Civil War. Before Sherman took Atlanta, he was more than prepared to accept defeat in his re-election campaign, finding merit in the voter’s position he’d failed to win the war.
The lust for money and power is as far from Lincoln as could be imagined. It’s all today’s Republicans have to offer.

  72. Nancy Says:

    #21 Badger
If that’s why Lincoln’s on the penny then can we put Bush on toilet paper?

  73. katy Says:

…but, to clear up hintler’s remarks:

    […]
The new disclosure requirements are similar to those passed by the House, although the House did not require information about earmarks to be posted on the Internet.

The disclosure rules, proposed by Republican Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina, were originally opposed by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nevada, who backed language with a narrower definition of what constituted an earmark.

But after a procedural vote to shelve DeMint’s proposal failed last week — with nine Democrats breaking ranks — Reid and the Democratic leadership changed course and backed the new requirements.

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, proposed strengthening DeMint’s proposal by requiring earmarks to be posted on the Internet, a change his fellow senators unanimously embraced Tuesday.

He looks like someone just caved in his puppy’s head.

  75. RandyBastard Says:

Santorum is the gift that keeps on giving. All of their kind can’t help themselves. They have no choice but to keep on being the joke they never quite get.

Even the drubbing they got in November didn’t knock any sense into them.

  76. DeLabarre Says:

    It was Lincolnish.

Hey michael! I responded to your weak little attempt to dismiss the facts. Go back and read it?

  79. veritas Says:

Santorum & Bush are two peas in a pod: Both at war with their own inner demons. Everything they say and do is contaminated by bigotry, violence, hatred, lies, spin, and the worst characteristics of mankind. To compare Bush with Lincoln is like comparing a dove with a viper! Give me a break! Santorum still doesn’t “get” that he’s a has been…all washed up….finito….the people hate him and think he’s demented. Get a life, Rick before it’s too late!

  80. veritas Says:

Santorum must have a similar IQ as well….somewhere below room temperature range I suspect.

  81. veritas Says:

Good grief, Charlie Brown. You mean we kicked him out of the Senate and onto Fox News. Well, at least Ricky isn’t making laws anymore. I can choose not to watch Fox News. I couldn’t choose to fire Ricky until November 7, 2006.

  85. katy Says:

    It was Lincolnish.
    Comment by DeLabarre — January 17, 2007 @ 7:18 pm

    well, not really… no comparison…
dubya is NOT lincolnish, especially not by that definition…
    no offense…

  86. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags Says:

Isn’t Ricky part of some neocon think tank? Isn’t his role at this stink tank; exposing Americans enemies? Guess Fox News was his first appearance. He needs someplace to yap-up his bulls**t.

  87. Bluedog49 Says:

Exley, you are forgetting a core aspect of Clinton’s Baltic war. Clinton was adhering to the terms of our NATO treaty alliance. NATO requested our help. Treaties entered into by the United States are treated as U.S. law according to our constitution. In Bush’s case, he actually flouted international law and treaty obligations instead of following them (what else is new?). He ordered the weapons inspectors out of the country and did not go back to the UN for authorization. You’re talking apples and oranges here. Clinton didn’t want congress to prevent him from following the law. Bush didn’t want congress to prevent him from breaking the law.

  88. Frank Cornbread Says:

Well what a load of bull-oney. BTW did any else notice Ricky sans-a-tie since he’s become an EPPC fellow. What a great fellow… Jack Ass.

  89. War4Sale Says:

There’s a lot of talk that Bush is ignoring Congress and ignoring the will of the people, what do you say to that?

    Santorum: “Good for him!”

That may be the most open endorsement of fascism captured on camera in America since Prescott Bush and his buddies were doing business with Hitler.

  90. katy Says:

    “sans-a-tie”… it’s so “ahmadinejhad-ish”…

  91. jurassicpork Says:

Well, sure (Frankly, I would’ve likened Bush to Sauron, but whatever). Both men presided over a civil war during a time when the nation was divided.

    Here’s the difference:

When Lincoln prayed, he spoke to God.

When Bush prays, God speaks to him.

Oh, and Lincoln was never known to have fallen off a bike and choked on a pretzel.

You wanna know how and why people like George Bush get propped up in a high chair in the Oval Office? Americans Are the Dumbest Wankers in the Solar System.

  92. rupert pupkin Says:

Santorum is still a god to the drooling, knuckle dragging 30%-ers that get their propaganda from Faux News. To everyone else he’s just a pathetic wingnut and a loser. I bet his ass is still sore from that ass-kicking he took in November when he was overwhelmingly rejected.

Bush is not listening to Congress and the people (the people he is SUPPOSED to represent) because he’s a bull-headed, arrogant asshole that wants to escalate the war so he can leave the disaster on the next president (likely a Dem). Lincoln-esque my butt. It takes no courage to do what he’s doing, just a lot of arrogance and stupidity and hatred for the will of the American people!

The truly pathetic thing is that TP’s moderators can’t be bothered to actually enforce the Terms of Service of this website and scrub this offensive content, yet they’ll fall all over themselves to nuke any post that dares to discuss 9/11 Truth, Zionism, or AIPAC.

Judd, I don’t blame rachel. She obviously has some deep-seated issues, and can’t help herself. But for you to allow this garbage to stand (as you have consistently for a while now) is inexcusable.

If you actually care about maintaining your site as a reputable forum for rational political discussion, you better address this issue immediately, if not sooner. If, however, you’re bent on running this site straight into the gutter (as it appears you are), well then, full speed ahead.

Hardly anything in history compares to the stupidity of Bush and his neocons and the damage they have wrought, except perhaps the way Hitler always felt when he would say that “The ends would justify the means.”
So it would probably be more accurate to say that Dubya is closer to “Hitler-esque…” Yes, actually, that seems a lot more accurate, especially with how they have consumed our military the last 5 years in such wasteful fashion, while even more volatile situations bloom in North Korea and Iran… In many ways like Hitler moronically wasted his troops in the horrible Russian Winter, as the allies closed in to destroy him.

A Republican actually led the charge against Harry “My Mother Worked in Multiple Whorehouses” Reid, and forced the Senate to pass legislation identicle(SIC) to the House of Representatives.
    Blather by Jason MH

    Jason,
Don’t you have anything better to do than slander Democrats who have nothing to do with the thread at hand (Harry Reid today, Barack Obama yesterday)? For one, you could learn to spell a bit better; then maybe some may actually believe you went to Stanford, though it is not an Ivy League university.
I seriously doubt that your remarks about Harry Reid’s mother are true, but, by the way, former German Chancellor and Nobel Peace Prize winner Willi Brandt was definitely born out of wedlock and never met his father. Unlike you, the West Germans were able to accept a man for his good deeds and his efforts to pull ahead. Things like that used to be called the “American dream.” However, kool-aid drinkers like yourself seem to prefer the spoiled frat boy type, who has made a mess out of every company and country he has run and then always turns to Daddy’s rich friends to bail him out.

  132. Krazny Says:

    Nonsense by Mighty Hypocrite

So now that you’ve given up trying to convince us that the Democratic Party of FDR, which took on the Nazis and Fascists, is not the party of today, you have to go back over 140 years for one of your silly digs, eh? Yes, the Democratic Party of today isn’t the one of the Civil War era, nor is the Republican Party of today the one of Lincoln. It was under Nixon’s Southern Strategy that the Dixiecrats like Strom Thurmond switched to the Republican Party. Liberals and progressives have existed in every era, and lists of the current and recent members of Congress who have served in the military show that the Democrats greatly outnumber the Republicans. Yes, Bush and Cheney are willing to confront the so-called enemy with other people’s children, being the chickenhawks that they are!
And a bad night to you, hypocrite!

Give us guns – and troops can go, says Iraqi leader

America’s refusal to give Baghdad’s security forces sufficient guns and equipment has cost a great number of lives, the Iraqi Prime Minister said yesterday.

Nouri al-Maliki said the insurgency had been bloodier and prolonged because Washington had refused to part with equipment. If it released the necessary arms, US forces could “dramatically” cut their numbers in three to six months, he told The Times.

NO WONDER NO WONDER NO WONDER - Give them weapons and go home

The 9/11-report, the Iraq Study Group-report, the false claims of WMD’s, a link 9/11-Saddam, the rosy war-picture. Great information we’re giving to the president, and then this nutcase/idiot/evil dictator also needs to ACT in the national interest? This is the greatest plead to abolish the American democracy ever. All this info, all this military might, all this economical power, all this patriotism and we couldn’t even prevent Katrina. The idiot-in-chief wants to build a fence to keep out illegal mexicans but we couldn’t even build the levees in New Orleans, dipsh*t. He wants to fight Iraqi’s and Iranians but he doesn’t even know the difference. He wants evil dictators brought to justice but he can’t even ADMIT A SINGLE MISTAKE of his own. He wants to spread freedom but we’ve never lost more of it since he STOLE THE ELECTION. If you’re not yet getting your gun loaded for the next time he drops by, I’m loading mine for the next time you come by.

  143. Eargy Earp Says:

Correct that LBJ is responsible for expanding the Viet Nam War.

However, Nixon did not end the war.

Congress ended the Viet Nam War when Ford was in office by refusing to fund it any further.

  144. candideinnc Says:

Stupid Santorum has a bizarre take on representative government: ignore the people you are elected to represent. Sounds more akin to a dictatorship to me. Thank God the puke is no longer in office.

  145. BooBots Says:

Nowhere in all this gleeful rhetoric over “dumb as a stump” Bush and Santorum does there rise the realization of the REAL threat of Islamic Fascism, which would, under Sharia rule, to remove free speech. Never, never from the lefty posters do we hear an answer to the musical question: And, pray tell, what is your plan to defeat the global Islamic Fascist threat?

  146. Francesco Says:

It is plane and obvious that the Bush administration has failed. Beginning with the alleged WMD’s that Saddam had supposedly stock piled, which turnout to be a complete lie. And now that Bush has taken control he has decided to give all of Iraq’s oil contracts to foreign companies for a period of 30 years. Does this sound like someone who is trying to liberate the Iraqi nation? And now that neighbor Iran has decided to convert their petrodollars into Euros, they have suddenly become a nuclear threat. It is relatively obvious that they are just looking for a reason to take control of Iran’s oil as well. After all, Bush needs a reason to invade whether it is founded or something he dreamt of.

  147. victor reyes Says:

Good For Him attitude is why, now, there is a democratic US Congress and Senate. No respect for the will of the people.

  148. craig Says:

Mr. Santorum needs a serious reality check when he says that the president need not heed the will of the American people. There is much to be said about creating a centrist counselling facility where people such as he can enroll for enlightment to reality. There is no justification that this country or any of it citizens should be ignored and carte blanche given to a man of proven insanity. This current incursion into Iraq needs to be quelled and we need to re-focus on the real threat to this country which in my opinion is the far right thinking of those such as Santorum, and I must also state that he is in very bad company with the rest of the neocons. Our focus must be on the threat of those that allowed 9-11 to happen and to curtail all illegal and unconstitutional transgressions perpertrated on the American people

  149. Suburban Guerrilla » Fluff Theater Says:

[…] There really isn’t even any point in trying to make a joke about Rick Santorum referring to the worst president ever as “Lincolnesque” in a recent Fox News interview. It’s the sort of fluffing that can only be carried out by the shameless or the deranged. Enjoy! MACCALLUM: You say most people do not recognize it, and the talk you hear a lot these days is that the president is just going his own way, not listening to the people, not listening to congress. What do you have to say about that? […]

Elections have consequences, thank God. If litle ricky were still #3 in the Senate and SML Bill Frist along w/ George Allen (the good senator from VA) also had Bush’s back we would be in deeper BS than we are now. 163. ray Says:

Rick has NO credability in even discussing this farce that is happening in Iraq He is just one of the few out of office now and many more will be joining him in 08′

  164. Hal Says:

Santorum is one sick nazi puppy for sure! “Lincolnesque”? hahahaha Reminds me of Colbert’s comparisons of the two just a couple weeks ago. On target! If I were to compare bush to any president, it might be nixon, just in terms of their lack of honesty & pathological desire to manipulate, but the one who resigned had more balls. The one who is still in office should be tried for war crimes and when convicted, shot or hung like Saddam or his bro-in-law.

  165. OhioDem Says:

Lincoln was uniquely intelligent, well-spoken, wise, and principled. He actively sought diverse points of view, even in his own cabinet (i.e., Stanton). He was our finest president.

Bush is superficial, sarcastic, and plain stubborn. In private he may be a good guy….somebody you might enjoy a beer with and share some laughs. In public, he’s truily only a puppet for big oil interests.

  166. Vince Williams Says:

    BUSH-SPEAK, an abridged DICTIONARY
    by Vince Williams

THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION’S DICTIONARY is, by anyone’s measure, a lexicon that adds a myriad of new definitions to our language. Over the past six years, our inference of the world of word-meanings has undergone a metamorphosis due quite literally to George W. Bush and his confederates. Naturally, in such a wholesale re-working of the language, we cannot expect to present a comprehensive list of words in the limited space below. However, we do suggest that when the George W. Bush library is constructed, there might be included volumes which assist us all in a better apprehension of this time in our nation’s history. Note: “Apprehension” CAN mean, you know, just understanding, and need not always connote a suspicion or fear of future evil or a foreboding and consternation, dread, horror, panic, trepidation and/or an anxiety. Though the selection of the word here is not an accident.

Anyway, we DO NOT expect George Bush to add to HIS afore-mentioned library any AUTO-biograpical material written SOLELY by himself. Although, we DO expect an “AUTO-biography” to be there, which provides us with our first definition among others we’ve included below.

AUTO-biography, n. a book written about my life, can be mostly by a ghost writer (which gets me off the hook), that reports stuff “authorized” by me after someone tells me what’s in it. I don’t care so much if it’s mostly fiction as long as it sounds good and is presented as fact. Also, it can include many of the terms below.

AUGMENTATION, n. assisting others in their efforts.

CRACKED EGG, n. what the Iraq war has become. An egg that is capable of being UNcracked. Newly coined term: “the Iraq crack attack”.

“MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”. phrase calculated to supply political points showing how SOLDIER I really am and how I’ve already won a war. A photo-op that can show “US” in a combat flight suit aboard an aircraft carrier.

WMD, n. what a hostile country has when we want to go to war with them. If there are other benefits such as access to oil, and multi-billion dollar profiteering opportunities for such corporations such as Halliburton, hey, we won’t turn ‘em down.

OIL, n. that which will pay for our waging the war in Iraq. (never mind that the price tag is now 1.2 TRILLION dollars and counting.) Ok, maybe it was one of our few mistakes.

CHEMICAL WEAPONS, n. in addition to “NUKE-YOU-LER” weapons, just the mention of these is always useful in striking even more fear in the entire country, AND galvenizing our base.

BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS, n. no-one likes to be sick.

SUCCESS, n. What we’re fighting for; and please don’t mention the over 3000 soldiers killed, over 20,000 wounded; and more than 34,000 Iraqis killed just last year, with a total Iraqi death toll of more than 600,000 men, women and children. Oops!

VICTORY, n. undefined; “We’ll know it when we see it.”

ECONOMIC BOOM, n. record territory for the stock market. Tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% of people in the land, and biggest corporations.

WINNING, transitive v. sponsoring an election in which 12 million Iraqi citizens (out of a national population of around 26 million) voted for putting in government that’s on “borrowed time” led by a president who is on “borrowed time”. After all, this is a DEMOCRACY since The United Iraqi Alliance, endorsed by Iraq’s top Shiite clerics, captured more than two-thirds of the 3.3 million votes. This Alliance win sealed the Shiite majority’s bid to claim power after centuries of domination by Sunni Arabs, including years of oppression by Saddam Hussein’s Sunni-led regime. How do YOU spell “relief”? If this isn’t DEMOCRACY, it doesn’t exist.

GOD. n. the GUY who lives UP in heaven above the clouds, and who listens to me when I ask for things. Other words, opposite to “Devil”.

EMBRYONIC STEM CELLS, n. pl. teensy tinesy people.

NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND, a phrase representing a program wherein teachers can be paid more for teaching ALL students to pass the SAME test.

DEMOCRACY, n. system of government wherein our administration wields sufficient power to have our own way almost all of the time. System of voting in which, when there’s a close election, a SUPREME COURT can decide the outcome (provided ONLY that the outcome can be favorable to those who are defining the term “DEMOCRACY”.).

NEW WAY FORWARD, a phrase used to mystify as many people as possible, and to justify STAYING THE COURSE, I mean “The New Way Forward”.

SACRIFICE, v. dying in Viet Nam, I mean IRAQ; and being stressed by watching news on television about the war.

SKEPTICISM, n. a word that sounds better than “OPPOSITION”. “Thumpin’” can also be used here.

PESSIMISM, n. another word to use when others imply abject and/or total failures of our administration. Sounds better than “OPPOSITION”.

AL QAEDA, n. the world-wide organization (made up of who knows how many criminals) that has the power to bring about Armageddon. The MAJOR cause of problems in Iraq (both now and prior to the war). The vast gang that perpetrated 9/11 and aims to do it again.

ADDITIONAL TROOPS, n. pl. A few more soldiers and marines to effect the “NEW WAY FORWARD” change in the prosecution of the war. Something to help John McCain have a better chance in his bid for the presidency.

INSURGENCY, n. a problem in Iraq; but it isn’t “CIVIL WAR”.

CIVIL WAR, n. all hell breaking loose with everybody fighting everybody else; not a reason to re-deploy, however.

PLAN B, n. something we don’t have. Something we refuse to talk about. Something we didn’t think we needed in invading Iraq in the first place.

REASONS TO GO TO WAR, a phrase to mean “If we can scare everyone into believing we will have another 9/11 if we DON’T do so”, we can invade and wage war on anyone we want to.

OPTIMISTIC, adj. something to be sure to answer when asked, “How do you view the prospects for the outcome of our efforts in Iraq?”

VIOLENCE IN IRAQ, n. that which essentially began with the SAMARRA incident back in early 2005, “I mean 2006″.

LIFE, n. something sacred as long as it isn’t possessed by a criminal, an Iraqi, an al Qaeda member, a Taliban member, anyone deemed an enemy by the Administration, a detainee, someone with Parkinson’s, Alzheimers, or spinal cord injury, or the Casey Sheehans in the war.

DETAINEES, n. pl. DIRT with no rights whatsoever.

DEMOCRATS, n. pl. “DIRT, but gave us a thumpin”.

TORTURE, n. something to deny we’re doing. Something that we don’t want to get caught doing.

EXECUTION, n. a hanging that can decapitate the hangee.

TRUTH, n. whatever “WE” want it to be. Just a word. Something made up for political purposes

    What we have here…is a FAILURE… to COMMUNICATE!..Ahhh yes, yes…the nature of the Stubborn Stupids..again I say..this is a phenomena of the “right wing”..Republicans, so-called “christoFascists” etc…
It is this…They have CHOSEN to be STUPID..because that mindset has it’s own kind of POWER…one can win a great many SMALL contests of WILL…simply by IGNORING ALL THE EVIDENCE…smart people simply break down trying to argue with them..
This essentially demonstrates the nature of these people…that POWER…”WINNING” is MUCH more important than “Policy” and POLICIES that make sense..or actually have anything to do with the furtherance of “civilization”..again..with the “Rpugnicans” it’s just about tests of “WILL”..about petty power trips…
Just look at them..beady eye’s…I mean take Foley for example..so far efveryone agrees…his own staffers…that his “career” was simply about getting to the “Top” he was flatly unconcerned about “Policy” or the actual progress of our nation…just a hypocrite on a power trip…
As are they all…and the trolls that scream and shriek about virtually ANYONE who dares to find Santorums Angry bitter hatred of anything different, or anyone who might dare to think for themsleves…well..they provide a good example..”Small contests of will..” NOT smart policy…or conscientious GOVERNANCE… H
