This morning, Sen. Barack Obama (D-NY) also announced his exploratory committee earlier this week by posting a flash video on his website. Hey,
Don’t forget that Edwards had a pre-announcement on the web and also had an announcement video up on his site.
He also Live-blogged on Daily Kos that week.
January 20th, 2007 at 12:43 pmYes and Karl Rove has already started smearing Obama and Hillary and trying to get them to fight each other too. Americans are tired of political cat fights while US troops die for oil in Iraq!
January 20th, 2007 at 12:44 pmDuncan Hunter is a REPUBLICAN. Please correct this ala Faux News error!
January 20th, 2007 at 12:44 pmThanks
Interesting, how the Dems’ online presence seems to encourage feedback and interaction, while the online presence of the Repubs is more unidirectional.
January 20th, 2007 at 12:46 pmWe’re here!
January 20th, 2007 at 12:46 pmWe’re the blogsphere!
Get used to it!
Hey,
Dont’ forget that John Edwards provided a sneak peak of his announcement online via YouTube, broadcast his announcemtn using online video as well, and provided online video of his following tour to early primary states.
He also live-blogged on Daily Kos that week and in the weeks leading up to the announcement.
January 20th, 2007 at 12:46 pmI sincerely believe this lack of embracing modernity or technology will hurt the Republican cause in 2008. Also, the Democrats have much better contenders in the ring… Just look at that list!
January 20th, 2007 at 12:46 pmThis morning, Sen. Hillary Clinton announced through an internet video
… Sen. Barack Obama also announced …on his website….
and also EDWARDS…
yet, nary a word from TP until hillary announces…
January 20th, 2007 at 12:47 pmthanks Patrick — got it.
January 20th, 2007 at 12:48 pmInteresting, how the Dems’ online presence seems to encourage feedback and interaction, while the online presence of the Repubs is more unidirectional.
Comment by TripMaster Monkey — January 20, 2007 @ 12:46 pm
I thought what Hillary said was brilliant - that in a Democracy, we should all be involved in the dialog so that we will also all be involved in the solution. Inclusion afterr all these years of secrecy, exclusion and diversity…
The person who unites this nation the most will most likely win the seat.
January 20th, 2007 at 12:49 pmDennis Kucinich has quite a comprehensive web presence:
http://kucinich.us/
Apparently, Think Progress isn’t aware of his announcement.
January 20th, 2007 at 12:50 pmTP,
I hope you will invite these candidates to post a thread here. There are some briiliant folks here who could help their causes.
Just a thought…
January 20th, 2007 at 12:51 pmPress is reporting that a US military helicopter was shot down today over Baghdad killing all 13 onboard. Bush’s surge just killed 13 soldiers, but will the press link it to Bush’s folly?
Remember that in 1993 President Clinton was attacked by the press after 2 helicopters were shot down in Somalia and 18 soldiers killed, which forced Clinton to pull out of Somalia, but will the press attack Bush for this incident in Iraq?
January 20th, 2007 at 12:53 pmand hillary’s candidacy will only divide this country further…
January 20th, 2007 at 12:53 pmterribly unfortunate… but that’s just how it is… damn winger idjits…
It’s also interesting that while Dems use the blogosphere to interact with the people, the republiscums try to discredit blogs and blog users by smearing them.
January 20th, 2007 at 12:55 pmAlso absent from the list is Dennis Kacinich.
From his website:

January 20th, 2007 at 12:55 pmbut will the press attack Bush for this incident in Iraq?

Not as long as he keeps cutting their taxes…
January 20th, 2007 at 12:59 pmOk, I see he’s added now.
He has a 12-point plan for getting US out of Iraq and instilling stability to the region.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:00 pmYes, the netroots influence is growing every day, so we can safely predict that the Rethugs will scramble to cripple the netroots community any way they can. But they are a day late and a dollar short. Thank goodness they were so stupidly blind to the netroots threat while they still controlled Congress.
Perhaps we should sound a note of thanks to the antiquated thinkers in the MSM for spending so much energy trying to portray netroots as unimportant. There is an interesting irony in what happened. The MSM and its corporate-fascist patrons talked each other into believing it. Right wingers said it; the MSM dutifully transcribed it; then these co-dependent enablers actually started to believe it.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:01 pmI see that TP deleted my post on 13 soldiers being killed in Iraq, but crazy trolls like rachel can post filth on here and the posts are left in place?
January 20th, 2007 at 1:02 pmunbelievable my comment you refered to has been deleted.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:05 pmOh now my post is back? What is going on?

TP needs to get its act together regarding these phantom posts, and soon.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:10 pmand it’s gone again.
Welcome to my world. That’s why I and several others took a Sabbatical last Thursday. Any time you hit too close for someone’s comfort, the post does a magical appearing/disappearing act until the thread goes dormant, then it shows up.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:14 pmRon Paul for president!
Someone who actually cares about the American people and will fight Washington corruption and the restoration of our civil liberties and constitution tooth and nail!
I can’t stand most republicans but this guy is amazing!
January 20th, 2007 at 1:14 pmguess jay’s bad news didn’t jive too well with the analysis of presidential contenders and the netroots…
January 20th, 2007 at 1:17 pmFaire > I just mentioned 13 US soldiers slain in a helicopter being shot down in Baghdad, which should be the top story on TP and on TV, but I guess Americans are just supposed to be in awe that Hillary is running for president, but we have known that she would run for months already. I see no reason for legitimate posts to be deleted, then reappear, then vanish again. But troll posts that make the threads look stupid remain forever?

January 20th, 2007 at 1:24 pmI think the criticism against Republicans is unfair. For instance, former Congressman Mark Foley (R-Neverland) was really a trailblazer in his groundbreaking efforts at internet outreach.

U.S. copter down in Iraq; 13 aboard dead
By KIM GAMEL, Associated Press Writer
This marks the second time a military helicopter was shot down in Iraq. As you observed, the Reich-wing outcry is likely to be far different than when helicopters were shot down under Clinton’s watch.

Are we sure it’s consciously being deleted and there isn’t an issue with them trying to fix all ths other stuff?
I just want to be certain that we’re giving TP the benefit of the doubt - because the post that was deleted wasn’t controversial…
I’m losing stuff too - and not things that make sense.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:27 pmSee the 3 posts by Castro will probably not be deleted?!
January 20th, 2007 at 1:27 pmJay & Brieadh na Faire,

January 20th, 2007 at 1:27 pmExactly, Jay. Just the other day, I posted a comment in a thread, only to see it vanish five minutes later. I posted it again, and then again a second time, but the reposts never made it to the page.
TP would have us believe that this is a ‘technical’ problem. I’m rather skeptical about the idea of a ‘technical’ problem that removes the posts of certain users and prevents them from posting as well.

“Benefit of the doubt?” Please. This crap has been going on for over four months. How long does it take to fix something like this? Not four months.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:32 pmTripMaster Monkey > I have seen my post 13 appear, then vanish, then appear again. If TP is not doing it, then a cyber attacker is doing it, but either way it makes this site look bad.
unbelievable > I do not know what is happening? I have a ghost post.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:33 pmI understand the frustration - but I don’t like to jump to conclusions when those conclusions don’t add up.
TP is outspoken against Bush’s actions in Iraq. Why would they delete a post that supports the same position?
Does anyone in teh industry know how these blogs actually work? Do posts have to be manually deleted or can they be removed by a spam filter after they appear?
January 20th, 2007 at 1:34 pmJay’s post at 13 is back.
January 20th, 2007 at 1:34 pmNo one is jumping to conclusions here. Four months is plenty of time to figure out their shit. Nothing adds up. That’s why we’re frustrated!

January 20th, 2007 at 1:45 pmJay,
Back to the point…
I think the November 7th outcome will probably be the reason that the Iraq debacle gains more publicity. And the more soldiers that are sent home in body bags, the more people will turn to the Democrats for answers.
The media can think that not airing this news will keep it silenced. The problem is that the friends and relatives of these people will not, and we all know that word of mouth is the best form of advertizing or news. It’s why the Right fears it so much and seeks to sequester us from reality.

unbelievable > the death of the 13 soldiers is big news today, but the press will try to play it down to help Bush. When 18 soldiers died in Somalia, President Clinton was called names by the press and forced to remove all the troops from Somalia. The same should apply to Bush, but no the press is in bed with him on promoting an escalation of the war. Yes we must keep fighting to get the truth out to American citizenry!

I concur. I’ve had several of my posts disappear -or go into a cyber “black hole”- from many threads over the months I’ve been posting here.
Many of those comments were on topic and supporting ThinkProgress’ point on one issue or another by providing links to articles, opinion pieces, reports, etc.
It is extremely hard for me to believe ThinkProgress would purposefully delete those; it sounds self-defeating. I tend to believe it is a technical (as in software) problem.
January 20th, 2007 at 2:02 pmIt says Barack Obama (D-NY) in this post. Can this be corrected to show he represents Illinois. Let’s not become a site that misidentifies, to any degree, our elected leaders like some major news networks have on occasion.
January 20th, 2007 at 2:03 pmOn topic,
It shouldn’t be surprising the Republican candidates should be technology-adverse: This is the same crowd that caters to their anti-science and Bible literalist base; you know these folks won’t be checking anything on-line by fear they might be exposed to “evil”, and “temptation”.
You know that Scanlon wrote “these wackos get their news from telephone trees” -expecting the “wackos” to be only a century behind the times is asking too much.

I agree. It’s why I am here and why I refuse to be chased away by the trolls who rant on and on and on hoping to silence us.
But, we must also be vigilant to keep the Dems from becoming the thing we elected them to replace. I like Nancy Pelosi. She was my Rep when I lived in San Francisco. She’ s smart and logical. If she stays that way, I think she’ll be able to accomplish a lot.

Reality is boring sometimes and it is the reason why people look for explanations in the supernatural, and find links and pattersn where there are none. This is not a put down on anyone, just an observation on how the human mind works.
Jay Randal,
I see your post on #55: “unbelievable > the death of the 13 soldiers is big news today, […]” Is this the post you are talking about?
January 20th, 2007 at 2:19 pmWith all of this high tech stuff, I hope political candidates can ultimately deliver the goods. How the goods are delivered should be secondary. Interactive online this and interactive online that shouldn’t play such a huge role in the election of a candidate. The candidate’s message should elect a candidate, not all this high tech stuff.
Myspace.com? I don’t understand that Web site. Is a candidate going to gain many votes on that site? Many people on that site seem to be flakes. “Hey, Dude, saw you at the party. Again, I’d have to agree . Imagine that : )
I have a cousin I love dearly, but the woman is convinced that she once saw angels. “Real” angels, she said (as opposed to me supposing she was speaking of faux angles?). She was in bed, at night, on the verge of sleep when she saw them (I’m guessing patterns in the light or she dreamed it). Makes a far more interesting story I suppose than if she were to tell people “I had this dream about angels”…. In fact, I find it is one of the greatest challenges in teaching. The way I was able to get my students to remember Medieval Architecture was by also telling them about the torture devices designed and used in the notorious Tower of London.
Well, I should run for a bit myself. And, like Jay, I will also return : ).

January 20th, 2007 at 3:59 pmNOW LET’S GET THEIR VOTING RECORD ON IRAQ! HOW MANY OF THESE GUYS ARE THE ACTUAL ‘ENABLERS’ OF THIS WAR BY VOTING YES TO GIVE A MANIAC THE TRIGGER? THAT’S WHERE WE’LL SEPARATE THE MEN FROM THE BOYS….OR THE GIRLS FROM THE BOYS AS THE CASE MAY BE!
KNOWN FACT OF THOSE WHO VOTED “YES” TO ENGAGE US IN THIS DEBACLE CALLED IRAQ;
HILLARY CLINTON
JOHN EDWARDS
JOHN KERRY
JOE BIDEN
FLIPPER MCCAIN
JOE LIEBERMAN
NOW LET’S SEE IF THERE ARE ANY WHO REALLY DESERVE TO BE PRESIDENT: (WHO WERE APPALLED BY THEIR CONTEMPORARIES AND VOTED ABSOLUTELY “no” (THESE ARE THE ONES WHO WERE PROGRESSIVE AND FAR-SIGHTED AS IT’S TURNED OUT).
HOWARD DEAN

He’s against the “war on drugs” which has been supported by both parties, and henceforth has turned America closer to being a police state then a deomcratic Republic. He wants the Constitution restored. He’s against the Military Commission Act, the Patriot acts, and has been urging for the impeachment of the Bush criminal cabal.
I urge everyone who loves civil liberties and freedom to give him a look. He votes his conscious.

I have noticed, using different browsers on different operating systems, the posts do not seem to stay cached (on your computer) and depending on the browsers settings, do not always check for new or updated web pages. Thus your post may seem to vanish and reappear when in actuality the web page you may be viewing is the one cached on your hardrive and not the whats on the TP server.

January 20th, 2007 at 5:49 pmYes, you’re right, Barack Obama was not in the Senate to cast a vote on whether or not to go into Iraq BUT he gave an eloquent anti-invasion speech in the Illinois Senate. Look it up on line.
The guy is smart, articulate, pragmatic and offers hope that we may get the America we love back on track.
The Beltway Boys?

January 20th, 2007 at 5:54 pmexcellent PAP ATTACK today on Ring of Fire Radio…
mike papentonio’s rant today gives voice to the obvious fact that most progressives are “not ready to make nice”… let the investigations begin and indictments fly (!)…

Not sure, but your comment sounds a little condecending, because he’s “Republican”…heaven forbid. You go by the voting record and what they say on the record. Ron Paul has backed up his retoric with legislation and house floor fights that are far more progresive then most Democrats. Ron Paul is a conservative first and formost, not a Neo-Con, not a boot-licking republican that we have come to know and hate.
1. He is for a full and independnt reinvestigation into 9/11.
2. He is for overturning any and all bills that go against the constitutional freedoms of this country.
3. He is anti-war, anti-federal government. He believes in states rights and not have the federal courts mandate laws nationally.
4. He wants to dismantle the Federal Reserve, and the IRS.
He’s the Dennis Kucinich of the Republican party. What makes him different then Kucinich is for the fact that he is a “paleo-conservative” that doesn’t have a fear of liberal thought to propel what is perceived as liberal causes. He will be able to get that voting block of 35% (Reagan Democrats, Libertarian/Independents, pissed off republicans). This married with pissed-off democrats that look at the present democratic party not standing up to Hitler jr and his buddies in the whitehouse, he could get an additional 15% from the democratic party.
I have heard him speak and he’s the real deal. He is truly honest, moral, and untainted by politics. We’ll see how he does. Should be very interesting in 2008.

My dial up might handle audio, but the headphones went back to college with Zoo Jr. I need to get a pair of those things…

Actually Jason I know a few whom were first in on computers. Some are Republican some are Democrat. But really Jason political affiliation did not lead to computers, or the internet. What you wish to imply cannot be implied.
Capice?

January 20th, 2007 at 7:56 pmThere is a blog covering the GOP candidates from a liberal perspective at The Right’s Field.
January 20th, 2007 at 9:33 pmHunter’s website is http://www.gohunter08.com
There are also two smaller candidates, often referred to as “The Other Candidates” — Michael Charles Smith (OR) and Richard Michael Smith (TX).
MCR is running the “one-state strategy” in the hopes of winning enough delegates in Oregon to address the Republican National Convention to blast the party for how it has drifted so much.
January 20th, 2007 at 9:37 pmI think it is quite EXCITING that Ron Paul is stepping up because he is the only one in Congress known for TRUTH! He is adamant on our constitution and if anyone can clean up tis country…it will be Ron Paul…and it needs a lot of cleaning up. His website is at: and if you want to review his track record and listen to his speech on the floor about IRAQ just go to this site:
We CAN get FREEDOM in this Country Back with Pal at the helm!

“Either contribute to the discussion sans unnecessary insults or go visit a therapist. We’re not your therapist.”
Listen to, unbelievable. I second what unbelievable has said.
I’ll state another thing, too: THIS IS NOT GROUP THERAPY. Somehow, I have the feeling you think this is group therapy. Jason, the TP editorial staff are not our group therapy leaders. Wake up! I know you may find the following hard to believe, but we’re all very well-adjusted folks around here!!!
I would highly recommend you either:
1. Seek individual psychotherapy.
2. Check into the Betty Ford Clinic.
3. Call Dr. Phil
Good luck!
A REPUBLICAN MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE.
