The real reason we’re in Iraq is “to enhance Iraq’s relationship to OPEC.” That’s what Greg Palast reports it says in James Baker’s pre-war plan.

It looks to me like they’re stalling until the new Oil Law (Hydrocarbon Law–is that it’s formal name?) is passed. Once those insane contracts are signed, then what? Isn’t that the victory Bush is really after?

After we deposed Mosadegh in Iran, the blowback took the form of the Embassy crisis and a revolution. Now we’re rattling our sabers at them again. What will be the blowback from stealing Iraq’s oil? Who wants to bet me we’ll be back in Iraq in another 20 years or so?

We already won. Sadam was deposed and executed for his crimes. His government was torn apart. A new government was established which held a free election.

Why do repubs refuse to admit we already won the war?

There is a new war, however, the Iraq Civil War, which sprung forth from disagreements on how the new government should be run.

Why should we intervene? We got what we set out for: An Iraqi democratic government. Just because we didn’t like the government doesn’t give us any authority to stay there and keep fighting. That’s not what democracy is about. Democracy is about freedom — even if the freedom we created is not the direction we wanted.

Why do conservatives hate freedom and democracy?

Why wouldn’t the previous one suffice ?

Why would they need to cite any NIE let alone a new one in order to increase the level of troops in Iraq to a level at which it has previously been ?

This isn’t some unprecedented move or significant difference from the tactics already employed over the previous 5 years.
