Bush phones it in, again.

By Nico Pitney on Jan 22nd, 2007 at 7:33 pm

Bush phones it in, again.

President Bush delivered remarks by telephone today to a Washington rally of opponents of abortion rights. “Bush calls the rally each year, usually from distant locations. This year, he extended his weekend stay at the Camp David presidential retreat in the Maryland mountains to phone the participants from there.” Kevin Drum notes: “Reagan did the same thing, didn’t he? These guys are so terrified of having their picture taken in the actual presence of people they supposedly support that they extend their vacations in order to generate some marginally plausible excuse for not showing up in person.”

    WTF?

An idiotic murderer in chief trying to portrait himself as a life saving gladiator? Where the hell is my methadone?

  2. Zooey says:

These people will never figure it out. They love, love, love them some Chimpy, but Chimpy won’t even be seen with them.

    **eyes rolling**

  3. Anonymous By Choice says:

They should hold the rallies during times not so close to his vacations. Or why not set up camp by his ranch like Cindy Sheehan has done?

  4. Patrick J. Fitzgerald says:

    Abort this!

  5. TripMaster Monkey says:

The anti-abortion crowd is probably just fine with Chimpy not showing up in person.

Chimpy is political arsenic at this point.

  6. Earthling says:

Send them all to Iraq where they can live in the sort of country they seem to want to create here.

  7. dixie blood says:

When will the Christianists get it? They’ve been played! Used!

And they continue to be STUPID!!

At least the facist, corporate powerbrokers in this country know to grease both sides of the axle. The STUPID Christianists hooked their wagon to a one horse wagon, Repugnicans. STUPID LOSERS!!!

    Beware of the Christianists!!

  8. Angry One says:

“Culture of Life” is #5 in the 10 Things to Watch For in Bush’s State of the Union address Tuesday.

    For the details, see:
“SOTU Preview: 10 Things to Watch For.”

  9. dixie blood says:

Beware of Sen. Brownback Mountain too!!

This Christianists ph*ck needs to be taken down before he gets his shoe laces tied for the 2008 race!!!

  10. veritas says:

    Chickey, Chickey, Chickenbutt!

  11. Spudge_Boy says:

These “whackos” (Jack Abramoff’s name for them) probably have no clue and are ecstatic that Bush even called them. They will probably be going around telling their friends “We got a call from the president!” Not realizing that the president completely dis’d them by not appearing in person. He probably finished his call by saying “Vote for me in 2008.”

  12. Jeremy Henderson says:

Bush caught a lot of flak when he claimed he never met Jack Abramoff, only to have pictures of him and Jack to later surface. With the pro-life whackos he’s covering his ass instead of letting himself get photographed standing next to some lunatic who ends up blowing up a clinic or assaulting pregnant women.

  13. dixie blood says:

Can we get the Christianists to “phone-in” an IMPEACHMENT?

    I doubt it!!

  14. Hector Garcia says:

Bush:”Nellie, what I’m saying is, is that we’re building a culture of life here.”¿?¿?¿

Bush:” I have made it clear to the Congress we must pursue medical advances in the name of life, not at the expense of it.”¿?¿?¿?

Bush:”It also states that these rights come from our Creator, and that governments are formed to secure these rights for all their citizens.”¿?¿¿

So this SOB applies the law of God….he does not apply the congressional or constitutional law…OK…i get it…

  15. Jay Randal says:

Bush can just go back to his ranch and phone in for his presidency for the rest of his term in office. He screws up everything in DC anyways!

  17. kelso says:

I wish I could be President. Then I could take vacations for 9 months out of every year!

  18. Jimbo says:

    - a sacred public servant, oath of biblical integrity, to be
the outmost flawless public servant to serve all the
    people, whether rich/poor

    - leftover from the 109th congress who barely put in
2 days a week because of their family values, buddies
like hastert who criticizes buddies who stash $90,000
in their freezer, but hastert wants to keep serving the
people all right…. it goes on and on in the elite city
with the highest sector of criminal acivity in the nation
    washington dc

    - global warming, solid economy, the list goes on and on

OH YA…. :) they serve the people all right = CORRUPT

  19. SouthPaw says:

While not assuming you all want to meet my flakey a$$…LOL….

  20. John Gilpins says:

Tonight, CBS Evening News reported that Bush’s current approval rating is 26%. They just conducted a poll. With his ratings at an all-time low, no wonder he doesn’t want to show up. I wouldn’t either.

    John

  21. Charity says:

If your belief is truly that abortion is wrong, and you’re willing to stand up for your beliefs, I can accept that. I don’t agree with your beliefs, but as long as you don’t do anything illegal, you and I have the right to disagree.

Literally phoning in your “support” while not actually standing up for it is hardly the same thing.

  22. SouthPaw says:

Who knows if my post prior to 21, which now makes me seem even more flakey, will show up.

I am heading to DC Saturday, and wondered if the TP posters I have come to feel I know thru reading so much will be meeting somewhere or identifying themselves so that I might see you in person. That’s all.

  23. Briseadh na Faire says:

    Tonight’s Word: Sanc-titty of Life.

Now, I know that’s more than one word, for all you nit-picky technocrats out there, but it’s important that we treat it as one, because, as you know, when a man and a woman become one, that’s God’s plan and we, as God-fearing Americans are duty-bound to uphold the Sanc-titty of Life.”

Earlier today, to honor the Sanc-titty of Life, President Bush interrupted his important, and necessary, vacation at Camp David to call “Nellie” and give his support to her cause. And what could be more important than a sitting United States President….a War-Time President, mind you, calling in his support for your cause. That’s like calling in the inter-continental ballistic missles…just to promote the Sanc-titty of Life.

And I could not have put it better than our Commander in Chief:

“It is important for all Americans to remember that our Declaration of Independence states that every person has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.”

(Jefferson did not know about blastocytes)

It also states that these rights come from our Creator,

    (Jefferson wasn’t a Christian)

and that governments are formed to secure these rights for all their citizens.

(Including fertilized eggs, which now get the right to vote.)

And we believe every human life has value,

(unless, of course, they happen to be in Iraq)

and we pray for the day when every child is welcome in life and protected into law.

    (unwanted pregnancies are now illegal)

Nellie, I want to thank you very much, and the members of Congress there who have worked hard to make progress toward this goal over the last six years. I want the folks assembled there to know that we’re making progress. We promoted adoption, support parental notification laws, ended federal funding for abortions overseas, and are funding crisis pregnancy programs.

(and cut aid to families with needy children and medical care for the poor)

I had the privilege of signing legislation that extends legal protection to children who are born, despite abortion attempts, allows prosecutors to charge those who harm or kill a pregnant woman with harming or killing her unborn child, as well. (Applause.) I signed into law a ban on the cruel practice of partial-birth abortions, and we will vigorously defend that law in the courts.

(next up, manslaughter for ob-gyns whose patients miscarry)

Nellie, what I’m saying is, is that we’re building a culture of life here.

(so we don’t have to build one over in Iraq)

And I want to thank you and everybody assembled for helping.

    (suckers!)

We are a caring nation, and our values should also guide us on how we harness the gifts of science.

    (Creation Science)

New medical breakthroughs bring the hope of cures for terrible diseases and treatments that can improve the lives of millions. Our challenge is to make sure that science serves the cause of humanity instead of the other way around.

(like, how much pain can we induce and still not call it torture)

Last summer I vetoed a bill that would support the taking of innocent life in the hope of finding medical benefits for others,

(so they can keep throwing those blastocytes in the trash. Take that, Superman!)

and I have made it clear to the Congress we must pursue medical advances in the name of life, not at the expense of it.

(and for the profit of the pharmaseudical companies)

As we move forward, we’ve all got to remember that a true culture of life cannot be built by changing laws alone.

(we have to invade countries who pose no threat to us, too.)

We’ve all got to work hard to change hearts.

    (just ask Dr. Christiaan Barnard.)

We will find areas where we can agree and, at the same time, work to persuade more of our fellow citizens to join this great cause.

(Just like the invasion of Iraq.)

The sanctity of life is written in the hearts of all men and women.

(and blastocytes….when they finally grow a heart)

And so I say, go forth with confidence that a cause rooted in human dignity and appealing to the best instincts of our citizens cannot fail.

(Just like the invasion of Iraq.)

  24. John Gilpins says:

How ironic! Bush contacts these loonies via “MA” Bell.

Doesn’t he realize that there’s already too many MAS in this over-populated world.

    John

  25. Zooey says:

    #26 – Brieadh na Faire,

    Fantastic. :-)

  26. Daryll says:

Abortion is killing. Killing is wrong. You don’t have to adhere to biblical laws, but if you decide not to listen, you will pay the consequences. San Fransisco, if the people don’t change their ways, I see turmoil in that city.

  27. katy says:

Nellie, I want to thank you very much, and the members of Congress there who have worked hard to make progress toward this goal over the last six years.

they’ve been working on it longer than that, and if this crew didn’t get it done, it won’t get done… why?
cause they don’t want to… the abortion card is a calling card…
that issue “is a better performer for them than a toby keith performance at the county fair” -randi rhodes

yes, i know, toby keith is an admitted life long democrat, but the red neck wingers don’t watch 60 minutes…

    oh, and, excellent commentary, BnF…

  28. John Gilpins says:

Why can’t Bush call in his State of the Disunion Speech? Let’s keep this call in trend going. Frankly, I’m tired of seeing his smirky face.

George, just extend your vacation a couple of more days. Miss you! Not!

    John

  29. Zooey says:

Damn, I forgot about the SOTU tomorrow.

I hope TP live blogs it like they did last year. I canceled my cable!

  30. Zooey says:

San Fransisco, if the people don’t change their ways, I see turmoil in that city.
    Comment by Daryll

Daryll, stop being such a simpleton. If this country doesn’t change it’s ways, I see turmoil across the nation.

  31. Mr. Evil says:

George Bush is just simply a spoiled rotten, sheltered little brat that has had his ass wiped by mommy Bush till he was 18. Had all his indescretions covered up and fixed by daddy Bush till he was 40. After that he has been under the control of his personal programmer, Karl Rove. He’s never had to be accountable for anything in his pathetic life why should he worry about being so now?

As for Daryll, TP’s worst troll, why do you take such pride in presenting yourself as an intolerant, hateful, lying, hypocritical, witless zombie?

  32. piltdown says:

    He gave them FOUR minutes.

    Some support, huh?

  33. Gregor Samsa says:

Pres Bush’s relation with his supporters is almost like an abusive relationship: He calls them when he needs them, talks pretty to them (without ever committing to anything), promises the sun, the moon, and the stars (without ever delivering), and keeps them at a distance when in public (he is too ashamed to be seen with them).

In turn, his supporters will not abandon him because they are convinced that deep, deep inside, George does love them after all -he just has a tough time showing his emotions.

    Poor fools…

  34. sheila says:

Not to mention, they don’t even believe what they’re saying. the Bush family is pro-choice. H.W. was nicknamed Rubbers on the house floor and Bush’s great-grandfather was the treasurer of Planned Parenthood!

  35. Kurt says:

Maybe Laura can talk to Chimpie via a phone with a glass wall between them. Visiting rights are up, Laura. Please come back tomorrow.

  36. dlet says:

Even though this is bushie’s last stretch as president he still won’t be seen with them. Goes to show just how low the Repubs really think of them.
