WSJ: “President Bush’s signature foreign-assistance program is likely to run out of money this year, leaving in the lurch several poor countries that have labored to meet its strict eligibility standards, according to aid officials. Mr. Bush introduced the Millennium Challenge program in 2002 as a new approach to fix the perceived failures of overseas-development assistance.”
Reported.
Lets see how long it takes.
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:49 pmWow. Quick-draw Judd?
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:50 pmWhat a surprise? Bush’s money running out? When was the last time he balanced his personal checkbook? Never mind balancing the budget of this country….is he joking? Fiscal responsibility and accountability have never been this guy’s forte and it’s showing miserably by bankrupting this country of ours.
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:54 pmHey, Judd whacked my “click much” entry as well.
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:58 pmHmm, I guess it wouldn’t make sense without the click click, click, etc. anyhoo…
A’fore people think I’m a tetched the haid, the two above posts chronicle me reporting a troll, and finding the crap gone before I even got back. Kudos, TP.
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:58 pmIt would be a shame not to live up to our obligation to these countries, just like it would be a shame not to live up to our obligations to secure Iraq.
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:59 pmBoy, that Bush legacy is misfiring on all cylinders, and shooting sparks out of the tailpipe. It now looks like a clown car at a destuction derby; hit it in the right spot, and it all falls apart.
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:02 pmAnother Bush project gone bankrupt?
Say it ain’t so.
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:05 pmI’d agree with Paul except the vision of “securing” Iraq looks so damn much like an open ended occupation after an illegal invasion and usurping of the soveriegn nation of Iraq.
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:05 pmKeep up the good work Judd, you’re 2 for 2…
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:06 pmRUCerious. I believe the effort in Iraq can succeed and will benefit us more in the long run, than if we had taken no action. But your #9 was a very good post. Nice.
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:11 pmPaul, all I can say is “woulda’, coulda’, shoulda’”
While ther is not “right way” to do it, I think we found the worst of the “wrong” ways.
Judd, You da’ MAN!
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:29 pmhacker bob. I personally like the moniker hacker bob over robert. (I would also like to find something more original that ‘paul’ for mine – but please no suggestions, my kids are around).
Although I have bought off on the strategy in the Middle East as a tough choice to a difficult situation that most don’t agree with, it is easy to concede that tactically the effort has not been managed well and the difficulty (after reaching Baghdad) was underestimated.
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:49 pm#11 Paul, I too think there will be serious consequences when we pull out. But I have confidence that this 3,000 year old culture will figure it out.
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:51 pmProbably a Shiite strongman, with some truce to let the Sunni emigrate out to Syria, Egypt, Saudi…
I can’t think of a single historical incident where democracy was imposed by invasion and occupation (and don’t give me Japan and Germany, we didn’t unilaterally invade either…)
#11 – PS, how bout getting back on topic, or going to a thread about Iraq??
January 22nd, 2007 at 2:01 pmRUCerious. I agree with your assessment of the difficulty (or possibility) of imposing democracy, I’m just not as confident in the outcome of the region, if we leave too soon. Gotta go. Life responsibilities are starting to get in the way of my time on the internet. This isn’t the Iraq thread? ;)
January 22nd, 2007 at 2:28 pmIt’s possible to end global hunger by 2025. That is part of what these goals were going to accomplish. We have spent over $300 billion on the war in Iraq so far and we don’t have enough to support the Millennium Goals! That’s crazy! The Borgen Project says a mere $19 billion annually is all that is needed. Time to start lobbying your representatives.
January 22nd, 2007 at 2:37 pmGWB, I like this bait & switch stuff, heh heh…
