New details have emerged about this weekend’s assault in Karbala that killed five U.S. soldiers. The Iraqi gunmen “were wearing what appeared to be American military uniforms in an effort to impersonate United States soldiers.” This appears to be the first time that attackers have portrayed themselves as Americans, raising concerns about Bush’s plan to embed U.S. troops in Iraqi units.
And where would they get American uniforms from>?
January 22nd, 2007 at 11:36 amHello, John Negroponte, are you there somewhere??
No Iraqi's were attacked or injured in that assault. ONLY Americans were targeted.
January 22nd, 2007 at 11:38 amDamn, those isurgents just don't fight fair. No one could never have imagined such a thing. No one could have predicted such dirty low down tractics. Why don't they stand up and fight like real men. Why don't they fight like our training manuals said they should.
January 22nd, 2007 at 11:43 amWe're surprised why....?
January 22nd, 2007 at 11:45 amIt should come as no surprise that the Iraqi insurgents would be one step ahead of our surge efforts. Not when we have people like the following running the show.

January 22nd, 2007 at 11:46 amThe longer we are there the wider the Iraqi militia groups and the Iraqi military will become. The militiamen will accuse the men in the military of working with the enemy and the military men will accuse the militia of killing them along with the "occupiers". Hard to remember that both groups, in their own ways and minds, are trying to fight for their country. Or at least what they think their country should be. All the while we are sitting in the middle of it all with an occupying military and corporate strongmen to take away their source of revenue that can help them become stable. Get out now and le the Iraqis decide what to do without the interference of an armed invasion force. And yes they Iraqis would fight any outside influence including al Queda if the US wasn't there to provide the "face of evil" as a recruiting tool.
January 22nd, 2007 at 11:53 amUS is looks like loosing the game in Iraq. Situation requires quick manoevres to make the best of the lost ground.
Any time lost building consensus at home gives time for terror groups to rethink and rework their strategies and game plans.

January 22nd, 2007 at 12:01 pmWhy don’t they fight like our training manuals said they should.
They did, look at any book on insurgency, disquise and infiltration are classic insurgent tactics. It's not their fault we don't read our own doctrine.

January 22nd, 2007 at 12:17 pmRobert,
I had no idea. I thought you could only get military uniforms on the base. Things have changed so much...
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:20 pmNo doubt bush will complain that the Iraqi government needs to insist that those opposed to bush's occupation dress up in uniforms that will easily allow us to identify and kill them and then Iraq would have democracy.
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:26 pmHell, I buy mine at the local surplus store. It's cheaper than buying them on base!
BTW #10 was only 1/2 sarcastic, before anyone jumps on me.
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:28 pm“greatest army in the world†That would be the Gurkas without any shadow of doubt
January 22nd, 2007 at 12:58 pmWASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. military helicopter that crashed outside Baghdad, killing all 12 on board, was shot down by a shoulder-fired missile, CNN reported on Monday..................
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:05 pmwe are so hated the insurgents are probably getting help from all over the world by now... essentially we are threatening the religious sect we just liberated from the now disenfranchised and angry other sect. lord, its funny to see a bunch of meth-addled armchair conquerers with delusions they can take on the world...
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:41 pmhey tp why did you take my comment down. you couldn't handle the truth either. it's ok to call the innocent iraqis savages though? sorrrry, sob's
January 22nd, 2007 at 1:43 pmWhy do I get this STRANGE tingly sensation...

January 22nd, 2007 at 1:55 pmKarbala is a stronghold of the Shia Mahdi Army. Only American troopers were targeted in the operation (5 dead 3 injured). There were no injuries inflicted on any Shia forces in or around the vicinity of the compound. Can you imagine what happens when Bubble Boy Bush orders the American troopers to be embedded with the Shia forces in greater Baghdad?.... Watch the spin...
January 22nd, 2007 at 2:11 pmhey TP, why did you take doen my post agreeing with Find Muck that the Gurkas
January 22nd, 2007 at 2:23 pmwere a great army?
“greatest army in the world†That would be the Gurkas Regiments without any shadow of doubt
Large numbers are now refusing to serve: The Department of Defense estimates that there are about 8,000 AWOL service members.
These are the brave ones - standing up to bush
January 22nd, 2007 at 2:24 pmIs this one reason why Negroponte has not released the NIE on Iraq? Is it because the truth is even worse than we suspect?
January 22nd, 2007 at 5:18 pmAmerican speaking insurgents in the Iraqi army -- who'd a thunk?
How many arabic speaking Americans do we have in Iraq? Oh yes, of course, they have to be heterosexual, Republican and religious.
Why do we continue to operate under the assumption that because Iraqis have a foreign culture and a strange religion that they are stupid?
