Libby says he’s being set up to take the fall for Rove.
“Attorneys for former White House aide Scooter Libby said Tuesday that Bush administration officials tried to blame him for the leak of a CIA operative’s name to cover up for Bush political adviser Karl Rove’s own disclosures. … ‘They’re trying to set me up. They want me to be the sacrificial lamb,’ [Libby's attorney] said, recalling the conversation between Libby and Cheney. ‘I will not be sacrificed so Karl Rove can be protected.‘”

Impossible. Someone had to give him the info. He didn’t have the security clearance to get it. I agree with your options he will be “silenced” somehow. Maybe Bush’s buddy with a good soul, Putin, can lend him the hitman he used to silence Litvinenko.

Will there be calls in congress for Cheney’s resignation? Will there be pointed oped pieces trashing the VP for his obvious unethical and possibly illegal actions? Will people put 2 and 2 together and figure out that the same kind of underhanded, slimy and dishonest methodology was used by the veep to drag us into Iraq?

January 23rd, 2007 at 3:29 pmI’d like to think it was rats eating each other, but will Rove be important at the next election? I always understood he was Bush’s schemer/evil dark master/plotter. Being as Bush can’t run again, would McCain or whoever else gets the nomination automatically want Rove on their team being as he’s been tainted so heavily by Bush?
If no-one will want Rove after ‘08, then why would Libby protect him at all? Why not share his fall with Rove if he feels bitter at being the scapegoat?

I’m wondering if larger bricks are going to fall because of how unhappy these two groups are with Bush and Cheney. True Conservatives are patient and don’t have any worthwhile horse in any race for the next 4 years.

I was not really surprised that Rove was not charged. With Libby obstructing the investigation, Fitgerald could not proceed to gather the information which would probably lead to Rove. As you said, though, maybe that’s all about to change. Fingers and toes crossed.

January 23rd, 2007 at 4:32 pmI hope Libby is in a very secure and safe area. There is no telling what Cheney has ordered to keep him quiet. I wonder if Libby will have a mysterious heart attack just days before testifying. Or will it be a poisoning of one Scooter Libby.
I just cannot see Cheney allowing him to divulge any information.
I am going to keep a close eye on this one and see if Scooter lives to tell all.
Keep in mind, Scooter Libby is a member of PNAC.

I would have thought that to be a non-admisable reason for disqualifying a juror, but whatever.
