Bush said: “For too long our nation has been dependent on foreign oil. And this dependence leaves us more vulnerable to hostile regimes, and to terrorists who could cause huge disruptions of oil shipments…raise the price of oil…and do great harm to our economy.”
FACT — DESPITE PAST RHETORIC, FOREIGN OIL DEPENDENCE HAS INCREASED: President Bush has pledged to reduce our energy dependence in every State of the Union he has delivered since taking office. At the same time, the United States has become increasingly dependent on foreign oil, from 58 percent of oil consumed in the U.S. in 2000 to 70 percent in September 2006. U.S. dependence on OPEC nations for oil imports “has risen to its highest level in 15 years.” By focusing on expanding domestic exploration, he perpetuates our dependence on oil. Lots of co-dependence has increased under Bush.

January 23rd, 2007 at 9:37 pmEmpty words from an empty man mean nothing. It was when he had full conservative power he chose to be arrogant and tyrannical to those in minority. Now that he is confronted with oppositional power, his attempts to sound contrite are empty.
I have always thought the actions of men the best interpreters of their thoughts.

Dependence begets subservience and venality, suffocates the germ of virtue, and prepares fit tools for the designs of ambition.

As long as this watershed of all of this mideast is going to be ours, I will sleep very well at night knowing I will stay warm and cozy and have plenty of chaep gasoline to put in my SUV and my wifes SUV.
I will sleep well at night knowing my children will never have to suffer through a full out national fuel panic and all the violence, turmoil and killing it would bring to them.
You may not like George W Bush as many dont, but you have to admit our way of life is non negotiable and I for one like a guy as President who looks out for my and my childrens best interests.
January 23rd, 2007 at 10:14 pmskipjack > Bush is NOT looking out for your best interests, unless you are one of the wealthy elite in America!
January 23rd, 2007 at 10:22 pmA 20% reduction in oil consumpion would almost end our reliance on Mideast oil.
Something to think about.
January 23rd, 2007 at 10:38 pmDidn’t he say the EXACT same sentence in the last SOTU??
