VIDEO: Audience Snubs Bush Attack Line, Cheney Gives Standing Ovation

During last night’s State of the Union address, President Bush again “forcefully defended his unpopular decision to send more U.S. troops to Iraq.” At one point, President Bush claimed that redeploying from Iraq would produce a “nightmare scenario” in the Middle East, and that to “allow that to happen would be to ignore the lessons of September the 11th and invite tragedy.”

While House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and much of the rest of the audience stayed seated, Vice President Dick Cheney gave the rhetoric a standing ovation.

Watch it:

Full transcript:

For America, this is a nightmare scenario. For the enemy, this is the objective. Chaos is the greatest ally — their greatest ally in this struggle. And out of chaos in Iraq would emerge an emboldened enemy with new safe havens, new recruits, new resources, and an even greater determination to harm America. To allow this to happen would be to ignore the lessons of September the 11th and invite tragedy. Ladies and gentlemen, nothing is more important at this moment in our history than for America to succeed in the Middle East, to succeed in Iraq and to spare the American people from this danger.

  2. unbelievable says:

Is he back to that 9/11 Iraq connection nonsense again?

  3. UGH!!! says:

That smug smile sends chills up my spine every time!!!!

Did anyone notice the only time that either Bush or Cheney took sip of their water (that I saw, anyway) was at the exact same time, and I mean exact? Like they are running on the same wires……creepy…..

  4. Kay says:

This clip gives me chills. Really. Pelosi will have to wash her hands with Holy Water. Pure Evil that Dumbya.

  5. Marie says:

Cheney told Bliltzer today that they are “moving forward” with their plan regardless.
So there!! Congress is irrelevant to them.

  6. kelso says:

Am I the only one that wants to throw up everytime the Congress stands up and claps for Bush Jr.? Why not wait until he’s done speaking?

That SOTU speech was 50% slogans, and 50% clapping. If you took out the clapping, the speach would have taken about 5 minutes to get through, because it lacked even the smallest amount of SUBSTANCE.

The Congress needs to quit treating the Pres. (any of them) like they are some sort of royalty or something, because it’s pathetic.

  7. yugan says:

Why do TP has video from FNC!!?? I think the same video is being shown in all the channels. Correct?

  8. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

Pelosi will have to wash her hands with Holy Water.

Maybe that’s what’s in those glass bottles in front of Madame Speaker. :)

  9. kelso says:

Cheney looks reptilian. I swear, when his eyes are shifting back and forth while sitting behind Bush during the SOTU, I’m expecting a big lizard tongue to whip out and catch a passing housefly.

  10. Marie says:

Slightly off topic but found information about this on the web:
Since when does the President advertise a corporation in the SOTU speech, like Bush advertised “Baby Einstein” videos, now being sold through Disney?
    Product placement?
Next year’s speech will be brought to you by…? the highest bidder?

  11. Marie says:

Matt Yglesias has an interesting perspective on hullabaloo about the selling of the congress.

  12. War4Sale says:

President Bush is a LIAR. It’s just that simple.

  13. Mr. Evil says:

Dick(head) Cheney, the sound of one man clapping.

  14. Vance says:

Dick’s other daughter lizzy was on MSNBC earlier with Noron O’Donnell defending her daddy and the failure in chief. Why is it these guys always send out thier women to defend them? My dad used to call this type of man a pussy.

  15. Zimzone says:

Neocons are the DoDo birds in Washington…
too dumb to know when they’re extinct.

The creepiest moment I caught was when Bush was exiting. The MN rookie congresswoman, Michelle Bachman, (in the beige outfit), held her hand on Bush a long while as he spoke to others. It was like she thought some of his ‘magic’ would rub off on her. Then she gave him a big wet one as he signed her ‘playbook’.
This is the same Neoslut who campaigned from the pulpit of a megachurch in a Mpls. suburub as the Minister told the congregation to vote for her.
How ’bout those nonprofit faith based initiatives? Do you think that church will have the IRS poking around? NO! It made all the news channels up here, but the church is still raising mega-money for Bush.

  16. strangely enough says:

Of course Cheney is going stand up and clap for that line- more Halliburton profits.

  17. Jason Baddo says:

if there was a window cutout behind Cheney you’d see Dark Star fighters cruise by dipping their wings to the leader of the evil empire….very surreal shotl

  18. Jeff says:

I saw it. I noticed. I’m glad TP did too. It was tre most important part of the SOTU. Good job TP!!! ; )

  19. kdoug says:

and then that school boy smirk … this is a sick man.

  20. Jason Baddo says:

WTF….why do Americans even listen to this garbage…this passage is like something out of a DIck novel. In the real world these words are as empty as the man who uttered them and the suit he occupies!! A mosaic of sound bites…things you’d hear in an election campaign for god’s sake!!

  21. Xenon says:

Oh yeah, Michelle Bachman, the self-professed “fool for Christ.” Well, the “fool” part is right…the woman’s a moron.

  22. Randy Nason says:

Yes, I saw that; social politeness and niceties aside. Nancy was not impressed and fluffed that cute little coiffe, ever so gingerly. Cheney, on the other hand, stood up as if in a frenzy to show the audience his new robotic dance step. A great time was had by all. I can hardly wait until next year.

  23. Spudge_Boy says:

The Emperor Cheney peered out from under his Sith Lord robes, eyeing the Congress as if to warn them that they would be subjected to the Dark Side’s full wrath if they didn’t bow down to young George, who would soon be known as Darth Bushy.

Young George spoke of the evil Middle East and how it would be crushed under the power of the Sith Lords dark magic. Under Lord Rice looked on in contempt of the Rebel Leader known as Master Jedi Jim Webb.

The battle ensued shortly after young George proclaimed himself ruler of the galaxy, Master Webb obliterating the evil Sith Lord and drving to the brink of death where most of his body would be replaced by cybornitic limbs and a breathing apperatis that sounded much like the Dark Jedi Bill O’Rielly calling his secretary.

Look at the second picture. The one of Pelosi.
She is losing her miracle ear 2000.

That crazy old broad. She doesnt have the wherewithal to launder Cheney and Bushs jockstrap let alone be # 3 in command.

A sad state of affairs indeed my friend. You need to fear this lady at all costs!

  25. redder than red says:

    Pelosi is standing too.
That means that she agrees too based on your logic right TP?

  26. BlueArkansas says:

Of course Darth Cheney is clapping! Who has benefited more from “nightmare scenarios” than him and his Halliburton cronies?

  27. dlet says:

    Comment by Marie

    Oh. My. God.

Can you please nit pick a little. The woman that started the Baby Einstein business started it from her own home with NO corporate sponsorship of government funding. So a WOMAN who is SUCCESSFULL by her own efforts gets pointed out by Bush and you want to make it an issue. I guess by showing the Soldier that won the Silver Star, The Basketball player and the NY Subway hero, he alsi endorsed the Army, The NBA, and NY mas transit.

Personally, I think these personal recognitions he gives at almost every speach are the only things worth watching. It shows the “everyday heros” that live in the US.

And Damn It, my kids STILL love Baby Einstein!

  31. hellinabucket says:

I wouldn’t expect anything less. He’s already put all his eggs in that basket.

    25. Fear Pelosi? You may have something to fear from Pelosi being that you think Cheney still has a need for a jockstrap but the American people don’t have anything to fear from Pelosi.

The only sad state is the one we have found ourselves in regarding the unwarranted invasion of a non-threatening country.

  32. Jeffrey Stewart says:

Why would the “emboldened enemy” emerging from chaos in Iraq have “an even greater determination to harm America?” I thought the US liberated them from and evil dictator and brought them God’s gift to humanity, democracy.

Is this goofball admitting that his disasterous war is creating more terrorists? Way to go nimrod!

I hate to have to crawl and beg my friends here at TP to publicly bail me out on the boards like this.

    Pussy.

  34. dlet says:

Dick Cheney is clapping the way a master claps when a puppy performs one of his learned tricks correctly.

  37. redder than red says:

I will call and ask Cheney to change the sheets for all of you when you all get shipped of to those Wyoming concentration camps.

I will look you all over and examine your nude bodies with a walking stick while wearing a monicle.

” That one, she will do for today “

    Apparently, neocon kool-aid causes blindness.

  39. Your Conscience says:

“There is nothing more important in our (Country’s) history than success in the middle East.”

I can prove the WH and this incompetent administration lacks all credence and is incompetent. If you buy the lie espoused by the Failure in Chief, that our society, mind you, all of civilization is in jeopardy then where is the measurable determined leadership and action? During WWII we rallied every resource of our society to fight and win. Where is the drive for a million men? Where is the draft? Where is the tax to pay for two wars? Failure in Chief tells you to go shopping. How persistently pathetic

  40. Liberal in New Mexico says:

  47. Jason Baddo says:

in the photo-close up one wonders that these 3 misfits (bush, cheney, pelosi) are the “leaders” of the free-world. I think the free-world is moving on and leaving America behind to deal with its own internal short-comings.

  48. better red than dead says:

And quit whining about George Bush supposedly smirking.

You Demoncrats have the smirks of all the dead unborns to atone for.
You smirk the unborn and mock God the Almighty on a daily basis.

This man of light, George W Bush is merely smirking back at all you blasphemers and sinners because it is Gods will.

You are powerless to stop it.
There will be no more pending Presidential elections for America.

We are right where we need to be as a nation.
We are safely ensconced in Gods protection through a true believer in His word.

    And that true believer is,

    George W Bush.

We should be thanking our lucky stars that we have leaders left who believe in the words of the Lord God the Almighty.

If left in the hands of Demoncrats, as a nation, what do we have left to strive for?

  49. Spudge_Boy says:

Looks like Pelosi is standing while Cheney claps to me.

It is not a photo that you can misconstrue. It is a friggin’ video. You can click and watch as Pelosi DOES NOT STAND up with your own two eyes.

What do you think she is 3 feet tall? Or are you just blind as a bat?

  50. Juan C says:

    How do unborns smirk?

This man of light, George W Bush is merely smirking back at all you blasphemers and sinners because it is Gods will.

I don’t remember Jesus say “Blessed are those that smirk at the blasphemers and sinners”

Although he did say “Let those without sin cast the first stone” I guess you are without sin since you are throwing stones.

We are right where we need to be as a nation.

And that would be the 28%er view of the world. You know, the people who want a war, but won’t fight it?

If left in the hands of Demoncrats, as a nation, what do we have left to strive for?

Peace and prosperity without blowing up people who believe in a different religion.

  55. better red than dead says:

You must have been on the warren commission too to have left out such blatantly obvious evidence such as Pelosi standing up as soon as Cheney did.

And then there she was, standing while her own body sat still.
I bet she felt really stupid and out of touch at that moment.

What could she do? Waffle and sit back down?

  61. Spudge_Boy says:

Please dont quote the Bible anymore.

I will quote the Bible, as I have read it from front to back and it is clear you haven’t. I can smell the brimstone coming from your pie hole.

Sulfur is a worldly mineral. Why do you think anything in the after life would be worldly? What good are pearly gates and streets of gold in the after life? It’s not like you will need money and why would we need streets or gates anyways if everybody has wings and can fly? If we don’t have wings, then how do we get around, walk? Drive cars? Gold isn’t a very good substance to walk on or drive on.

This man of light, George W Bush is merely smirking back at all you blasphemers and sinners because it is Gods will.

Yes, The great deceiver, the man of lies, the man who has orchestrated the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Oh yes, a true man of light (…and Jesus wept)

There will be no more pending Presidential elections for America.

What the hell does that mean?

We are safely ensconced in Gods protection through a true believer in His word.
    And that true believer is,
    George W Bush

Yes, because he did such a wonderful job on 9/11 and Katrina. Please preach to those victims, and to the deceased families, about how safely ensconced they were.

We should be thanking our lucky stars that we have leaders left who believe in the words of the Lord God the Almighty.

Just curious, what’s the religion of Obama, Nancy, Reid, …etc.?

If left in the hands of Demoncrats, as a nation, what do we have left to strive for?

Oh, I don’t know…maybe following true core Christian values? You know, like helping the poor, the hungry. Like putting Christianity above money, above profits. Like treating everyone equal, no matter what denomination, no matter what race, no matter what sexuality. Like helping those that are sick (Cancer, AIDS) instead of cutting funds for research.

    SpudgeBoy,

TP altered the film. She definitely stood up and then relized her own party did not.

She looked as foolish as she should have. What could she do, waffle and sit back down thinking no one noticed?

    I dont think so.

Tivo does not lie. The film lab at TP must have used to work for the CIA, because they did an awesome job of making her appear she didnt stand up.

The sole remaining clue in the hastily prepared and cropped film is Pelosis left shoe.

It seems that for a split second Pelosi actually had on Cheneys shoe in the video. It was a pretty sloppy video edit if I do say so myself.

But hey it satisfied the non investigative masses such as yourself, so I guess TP did their jobs well once again at obfuscation of facts to the masses.

It is not my fauly or my undoing that you mindlessly believe everything you are shown on film without noticing small fine and minute details.

The outfit that does all of TPs film alterations must be the same group that does the Osama films that appear from time to time.

They are so hastily put together that it is just that obvious.
You must be blind or just brainwashed not to be able to see it.

She momentarily is wearing Cheneys left shoe.
Dont take my word for it. See it for yourself.

Just like a cult are they not Godfrey Daniel?

They are some sort of wannabe military seperatists, with a sprinkle of Charles Manson thrown in for good measure.

They are dangerous reactionaries and I hear the NSA has this site under constant and HEAVY surveillance.

Ala Ruby Ridge, Waco, Timothy McVeigh.

They are being watched and monitored this closely is what my sources tell me.

They even know who these posters are and where they live.
I am happy for that as an American, we dont need a militant group starting up right here in our own backyard in America.

I have heard it rumored that Ellison is their chosen ” ruler ” when the time is right.

I intend to make sure that ” time ” never arrives by exposing and stamping these fools out for what they really are.

Enemies to God and to America.

You do this all too well and all on your own.

He thinks like he’s John Adams, so unfortunate that he’s 200 years behind. What are there, 3 or 4 Originalists out there. it’s the latest Rush Limbaugh bad excuse club for running an imperial republic.

Here’s some words of advice for todays number one bible thumper:

“And when you pray, be not like the hypocrites, who affect to pray standing in the assemblies, and at the corners of the streets, that men may observe them. Indeed, I say to you, they have received their reward. But you, when you would pray, retire to your closet; and having shut the door, pray to your Father; and your Father, to whom, though he is unseen himself, nothing is secret, will recompense you.”

Here is what you democrats have left as a party.

A failed party and no leadership.

A God that you have willfully angered and shunned.

A belief that to each his/her own is good for the world, society be damned.

A hapless bunch of misfitting cretans in a modern day world that is lost and just cannot find itself.

A blasphemous crowd that attempts to make up for its own shortfalls by proclaiming this or that inanimate thing is the NEW God to be followed and worshipped.
    ( Idol Worship )

Your own party and the world at large has moved toward light and freedom in the twinkling of an eye, while you are still left here standing and still wondering
    ” what happened ” ?

A pandering leadership who has their own hidden agenda via the CFR and PNAC. Dont believe me? Do the research. You will be amazed. Start with CFR members and work through to PNAC. Very telling indeed.

A constituency who mindlessly and blindly follows their party leadership and agrees with every recommendation and stance on any given subject. No matter how shortsided or foolhardy.

A party that believes that just sitting down and talking with terrorists might change the way they feel towards us as a people.

A party that is complicit in the murder of millions of innocent Japanes under Japanese nuclear attacks in WW2. Republicans have never used a nuclear device on anyone.

A party that is complicit in the unlawful detaining of thousands of Japanese in concentration camps right here on American soil in WW2. Not a Republican.

A party that is complicit in the unlawful detaining of thousands of German immigrants in concentration camps right here on American soil during WW2. Not a Republican.

A party that shifts with the slightest breeze on any given issue, no matter if it is of national security concern or not.

A party that gets alot of its funding from people like George Soros. George Soros is one of the biggest drug smugglers and money launderers this world has ever known.
Just google- Clinton Soros Mena Arkansas -it is all there if you will only look.

A reputation that it takes the killing of innocent unborns to make our party happy. This scarlet yoke shall adorn your pitiful necks forever and all eternity, as well it should.

You must be talking about Bush – because Bush is the one who let bin Laden off the hook and Bush is the one who hasn’t caught him yet, you numbskull.

Bluefog be honest. U want Osama to defeat Bush

Did anyone else notice that the only other time Cheney’s face was animated was when Bush was talking about cutting dependence on oil and reducing consumption by 20%–Cheney looked to the left at the rogue’s gallery and winked at someone–then his slit of a mouth turned up at the edges….like he’s thinking to himself…..yeah, right!
I’d sure like to have someone get that on YOUTUBE–it was subtle but really very telling.

  111. Bluedog49 says:

Flaco, you must have me mixed up with someone in the Bush administration. I wanted thousands of special forces to converge on Tora Bora and either capture or kill bin Laden. Remember, at that time, Bush still had an approval rating in the high 60’s. Many of us were hoping for success in dealing with the people who attacked us. Your cult leader didn’t do that. He went to Iraq instead. Don’t you remember?

    Comment by Bluedog49

And Clinton was getting some trim when thye terrorist were bombing the USS Cole and the WTC the first time numbskull.

  113. Bluedog49 says:

OK, that’s cute, but anyone who has been on these boards for any time at all can see that if Bluedog49 is posting wingnut nonsense, it’s not Bluedog49. But, while you’re on the subject, let’s review:

On the day Clinton was 45 minutes late in his attempt to kill bin Laden with cruise missles, republicans had forced him to spend the entire morning answering questions about oral sex. So, to your congressional republicans, clearly oral sex was more important than killing Osama bin laden. Care to explain that, numbskull?

  114. Bluedog49 says:

The first WTC bombing occured just 30 days into the Clinton presidency. There is absolutely no record of Clinton or anyone in his administration blaming the previous administration for this.

  115. Bluedog49 says:

Flaco or whatever you want to call yourself, you brought up Clinton. You tell us: what steps did the repub congress of the 90’s take to help Clinton fight terrorism? Can you think of anything? What did they do to prevent him from waging a war on terrorism? Any thoughts on this?

  116. Flaco says:

On the day Clinton was 45 minutes late in his attempt to kill bin Laden with cruise missles

Asshat he does not have to be there to push the criuise missile button.
    U bonehaed!

  117. Flaco says:

    BlueFog49 U r one dumb MFer!

  118. Bluedog49 says:

Flaco, the Commander in Chief must be the one who orders a lethal attack on another nation, period. What country do you live in? You can’t be an American because you don’t know fact one about how things really work here. And, again, do you think this deposition they forced him to endure for the entire morning helped or hindered his efforts to kill terrorists? What’s more important to you? Busting Clinton for getting a bj, or fighting terrorism?

  119. Flaco says:

    Bluedick49
Let’s bring the Clinton Crime family back into power.

  120. Bluedog49 says:

    Flaco: “BlueFog49 U r one dumb MFer! ”

Educate me then, professor. What did the republican congress of the 90’s do to help Clinton fight terrorism? You’re such a smart guy. I’m sure you can come up with something.

  121. Flaco says:

Clinton is responsible for failing to get this Osama.
He caused his own problems Screwdog.

  122. Bluedog49 says:

Flaco, what crimes did the Clinton family commit? There must be indictments and convictions you can point to. Again, educate me on this, smart guy.

  123. Flaco says:

What’s more important to you? Busting Clinton for getting a bj, or fighting terrorism?

Ask Bubba that. BJ or fightin’ terrorists?

  124. Bluedog49 says:

Flaco: “Clinton is responsible for failing to get this Osama.
He caused his own problems Screwdog.”

Clinton made a number of attempts to kill bin Laden. He instructed the CIA to kill bin Laden. He was told bin Laden was responsible for the Cole with 3 months left in his presidency. Bush had 9 months of knowing this before 9-11. What did Bush do before 9-11 to kill or capture bin Laden?

  125. Flaco says:

    Bluedog,
dude u live in a make believe world.

  126. Flaco says:

  127. Bluedog49 says:

Since Clinton told the Bush administration coming in that their biggest threat was bin Laden, I’m guessing terrorism was important to him. The question is why wasn’t it important to Bush?

  128. Bluedog49 says:

Flaco, if you can’t think of a single thing your repubicans in congress did to fight terrorism in the 90’s, this discussion is over. You’ve got nothing.

  129. Randy Nason says:

#128- Osama bin Laden was very important to George Bush. As a matter of fact, George Bush, Sr. was having breakfast with Osama’s brother on the morning of 9/11. That is why the bin Laden family was hurried out of the country so quickly. The Bush family has known and worked with the bin Ladens and the Saudi Royals for a number of decades. George’s brother Neil had his software company funded by the Saudis and Dick Cheney just got back from Saudi Arabia a few, short weeks ago. It was at thier insistence that he come immediately, for a very important meeting. I wonder what it was all about?

What was that smirk all about? He looked like he was holding back his anger. He was definately not pleased with the audience response, after all, he is the Decider in Chief and leader of the Republic party. Bush did take on his “usual” persona when talking about Iraq. I think he gets pleasure out of war. Maybe he thinks he’s back in grade school playing with his toy solders. Only this time, he’s playing with real lives.

Wednesday, 3 more coffins draped with flags will be returning to the US.

  134. CoffinsDrapedWithFlags says:
