The right wing attacks Dick Cheney’s daughter,

but when Wolf Blitzer asks about it, Cheney says he’s “out of line.”

The timidity in Wolf’s voice is palpable. Clearly he is terrified of Vick President Grim Reaper. And we wonder why the media fails in its obligation to inform us on the most important issues affecting our lives!

  8. katy says:

ok – when wolf said the words “your daughter mary, she’s pregnant”,
that’s when darth should have said, “respectfully, off limints – don’t go there”, and i’d bet that’s all that would have been said…

but he sits there, in a slow boil, as if guaging what the words and message will be before saying “out of line”…

the guy is a mess of nerves because he’s about to be resigned…
    not soon enough…

You are right!! That’s exactly what he thinks of me or anyone else with a half a ph*cking brain!!

And I only have a half a brain to work with here!!!

  10. brie says:

Well, that was one of the more awkward things I’ve seen in a while. Everyone is out of line for dragging Mary Cheney’s fetus through the mud every week, but I can’t believe Blitzer didn’t have a follow up for that. Did he really think Cheney was going to answer a questions about his daughter’s personal life or challenge the religious conservatives that support his party?

There were about 800 better ways Blitzer could have approached that subject. Instead he approached it head on and Cheney nearly boiled his brain with that stare. Go Journalism!

  11. Spudge_Boy says:

    Tom,

That’s what Dick CHeney thinks of you too.

Yes, the Dark Side does have some powerful magic. There is the no handed throat grab and the sitting next to you brain boil. Darth Cheney is a Sith Lord, so he is good at both attacks.

“The right wing attacks Dick Cheney’s daughter”

Aren’t those baseless claims the exact same thing you far left-wingers always complain about on this website?

I consider myself fairly conservative and I don’t care if his daughter is a lesbian, or if she is bisexual, asexual, orange, red, purple, etc.

  15. Publicus says:

“I consider myself fairly conservative and I don’t care if his daughter is a lesbian, or if she is bisexual, asexual, orange, red, purple, etc.”

Well, then, Ian…we don’t consider you all that conservative.

Because conservatives have a big problem with homosexuals…they want to prohibit them from getting married and then condemn them from having children outside of marriage. And the question IS in line because the people want to know if the Vice President is a hypocrite who wants one set of rules for his daughter and another for the rest of the people.

What are you talking about? Are you a conservative? If not, then how do you know how each and every conservative feels? Yeah, I thought so. Just because one or a few think so doesn’t mean that everyone does. My point still stands: This blog constantly complains about conservatives making blanket statements without backing it up and that is exactly what they are doing about this subject.

  17. Tom says:

    Spudge_Boy

My point exactly. Dick the Prick feels that way about everyone — except Jeff Gannon. Here’s a picture of The Prick hanging out in his “undisclosed location” awaiting Jeff’s daily visit –> http://thumbsnap.com/v/pMPqjqXK.jpg

Now just what would Focus on the Family have to say about that?

What are you talking about? You are doing exactly what I am complaining about. This blog constantly complains about conservatives making blanket statements without providing proof to back it up, and for bloggers they complain they don’t provide links to back it up … and that is exactly what they are doing now.

Just because a few leaders in the religious right — most or all of whom I have never of — are against Cheney’s daughter’s lesbianism and pregnancy DOES NOT mean all of us are. You act as if the religious right speaks for all conservatives, when in fact they make up a small minority of the party.

    Don’t believe you.

You are either fairly conservative and hate or you are moderate and don’t give a crap. I wish you people knew what the hell you are.

  20. Publicus says:

“What are you talking about? Are you a conservative? If not, then how do you know how each and every conservative feels?”

Ummm…did I say “each and every”? Have you heard of the people who want to put up a Constitutional Amendment to make gay marriage illegal? Have you ever heard of protests against gays? Have you ever heard Rush Limbaugh rail against the gay agenda?

Are those people liberal or conservative? If you have no problems with homosexuals, I think it’s safe to say that your position on this is more liberal than conservative.

And I’m with you on that! If you prefer to call your position conservative, you’re welcome to it. But I don’t think too many people on either side of the issue would agree with you.

  25. whiteyfresh says:

so since Cheney stands us for his daughter,is he a Jesusmonger or a corporate facist?

  26. Publicus says:

“What kind of a man doesn’t stand up for his family?”

    David –

The question is, what kind of a man stands up for his family, but condemns the same behavior by people who are not in his family.

    The answer: a hypocrite.

  27. Randy Nason says:

Strangely enough, Pat Robertson, who has often offered counsel and advice to Bush, said that Mary Cheney is the second coming of the Virgin Mary. If that is the case, her father Dick should be all too willing to share this miracle with all the people of the earth. -heh- This bunch is too much. They call themselves conservatives, but hide behind that mask. They’re far more insidious than that.

  28. Jay Randal says:

VP Cheney is very defensive about his lesbian daughter, because Wolf just asked him about her pregnancy. Since Dicky does not want to say anything about his daughter to the press, then why did he and his wife tell the press she is pregnant?

Off topic but some food for thought.

According to insurance claims on file at the Department of Labor, 770 civilian contractors have been killed in Iraq since the war began in March 2003, through December 31, 2006.

THat would make the death total in Iraq much higher than just soldiers since these “civilian contractors” or mercenaries as they should be called are acting in a soldier’s capacity.

  34. Fools on the Hill says:

Well why is Wolf out of line for asking a comment and Bush isn’t for wanting a Constitutional amendment outlawing Cheney’s daughter’s behavior. Fact of the matter is that Cheney is full of hogwash, if you will.

  35. Briseadh na Faire says:

Off Topic, but this finally hit Corporate Media:

Ray gun makes targets feel as if they are on fire

MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Georgia (AP) — The military’s new weapon is a ray gun that shoots a beam that makes people feel as if they will catch fire.

The technology is supposed to be harmless — a non-lethal way to get enemies to drop their weapons.

Military officials say it could save the lives of civilians and service members in places like Iraq and Afghanistan.

The weapon is not expected to go into production until at least 2010, but all branches of the military have expressed interest in it, officials said.

During the first media demonstration of the weapon Wednesday, airmen fired beams from a large dish antenna mounted atop a Humvee at people pretending to be rioters and acting out other scenarios U.S. troops might encounter.

The crew fired beams from more than 500 yards (455 meters) away, nearly 17 times the range of existing non-lethal weapons, such as rubber bullets.

While the sudden, 130-degree Fahrenheit (54.44 Celsius) heat was not painful, it was intense enough to make participants think their clothes were about to ignite…. (emphasis added)

  36. veritas says:

Dickhead wants to have it both ways: spouting reichwing anti-gay rhetoric with his buds and then not wanting to discuss it as though to dismiss he and his hypocritical buddies are spewing it. How many ways can one spell hypocrite?

  37. veritas says:

Americans know cheney epitomizes hypocricy and corruption. Why does these sycophantic media whores like Blitzer even toy around with him? They only discredit themselves by the company they keep.

  39. DemocraticPatriot says:

Its obvious why the Republicans have been able to steam roll their crooked treasury looting oil and war agenda with spineless cowards like Wolf in the media. When Cheney refused to answer, he should have gone right after Cheney and said, “The American people are concerned about your politics which contradict the. This is about you being perceived as a hypocrit like most republicans. In other words, Dick, you think you’re better than the rest of us don’t you?”

  40. Marie says:

The entire interview was amazing to watch. From Cheney’s rewriting the entire history of Iraq to revisiting indignation that someone would mention his pregnant daughter.
Blitzer should have/could have been more assertive, but even when he did make an attempt, Cheney walked all over him.
Cheney behaves like a caged animal. Lashing out at everyone.
He is a dark and sinister person, who is deepening his delusional views.

  41. Whitey HermAphrodite says:

so since Cheney stands us for his daughter,is he a Jesusmonger or a corporate facist? -Comment by whiteyfresh

actually, he didnt stand up for his daughter. he killed the messenger/questioner instead of adressing the criticism…like all hipocrites, he was angered when confronted with the inconsistency of his family’s life and the alleged “family values” his supporters so rabidly pursue.

If some left wing group had made this criticism of his daughter, do any of us doubt he would have said that group could “go f#ck themselves”?
But since that criticism came from one of the few groups left who still support him (his base.. or these days, more like “free-base”), cheney the eternal coward he kept silent about their actual critism…

He doesnt want to address the fact that one of the few groups left that support him beleive people like his daughter have made deliberate choices to commit sinful acts.

In truth, cheney is a godless man who cares nothign for the idiot biblehumpers he tricks into supporting him. My money’s on him being a closeted homosexual pedophile. The best reason this guy could come up with for getting his wife pregnant was to avoid the draft….

  42. Gregor Samsa says:

VP Cheney is offered the opportunity to blast his daughter’s critics out of the water, and he calls that “out of line”?

    Comment by Ian — January 24, 2007 @ 8:45 pm

Well, first off what you will note is that what Cheney was calling out of line was asking the question which isn’t actually out of line. The attacks on Cheney’s daughter, they were out of line, the question, was fairly weak but fair enough. It was also a chance for Cheney to humanise himself a bit.

Anyway, what you think is leftwing and what actually is leftwing are two different things. What really seperates the two wings is the concept of why we argue.

To the left an argument is something you do in order to test a theorem. If you are wrong, you amend your argument, and if you are really, really wrong you change your mind.

To the right an argument is something you do in order to win.

With the left, lying to win an argument is considered unnacceptable because – it defeats the whole point to the excercise.

To the right, it is acceptable because what counts is winning the argument. (Ann Coulter. Rush Limbaugh etc… all still have their jobs, get a leftwinger who has been caught out simply being wrong about something like Dan Rather, and he loses his job.)

To the left changing your mind is a sign of adaptability and a willingness to listen.

To the right it is a sign of weakness. (Kerry V Bush is the classic example.)

To the left, to maintain the moral high ground on a subject you have to personally behave in a morally superior manner.

To the right, to maintain the moral high ground on a subject you just have to find someone on the other side who has done kind of the same thing. (K-Street scandal, torture, etc…)

To the left, if you disagree with your parties line, then don’t vote it (The real root to the left’s anger with Lieberman – He argues one way, calls his party traitors, and then votes the party line which he called treacherous in the first place. If he disagrees so strongly we would all rather he voted in such a manner as to reflect his disagreement.)

To the right, if you don’t vote the party line you are a traitor. (See how reluctant Hagel has been to defect on any given issue when it comes to the vote?)

To the left, a governments prime duty is to all of its people.

To the right a governments prime duty is to those people who voted for it.

  47. John Gilpins says:

    I didn’t see the program.

Let the right-wing attack, Mary and Heather. What have they done for the gay community? Zip!

Mary’s lifestyle IS an issue, because she and her family want every right they deny others. As Veritas has said: They can’t have it both ways.

Mary is way in over her head. She and Heather, a long-term lesbian couple, have had an affluent, non-controntational, private life up until these past few years. Mary and Heather, say goodbye to you past private, non-confrontational lives. It’s history.

I really pity the future life of their child. Can you imagine the ridicule and harrassment that child is going to receive at the hands of bullies and right-wing zealots? I can’t! First of all, the child has a greater chance of being gay than a child exiting the womb of a heterosexual mother. Genetics do play a role in one’s sexual orientation. That’s a fact.

Mary and Heather may not be partners when the first Social Security check arrives. A child is going to change the equation quite a bit. Mary is not making sound judgments neither for her or her child.

Mary is a very selfish person. She wants a child for her, without thinking of the child. Good luck, because you’ll need it. Espect ESCALATING problems and SURGING homophobia.

I just hope David Crosby isn’t the father.

    John

  48. Fools on the Hill says:

It was a fair question. Cheney is 2nd highest in the administration and they ran on what they claim are family values and saving the country by saving the family from gays. Many who voted for them believe gays do not have a right to marry or have children because they believe it is a right and best interest of the child, that he/she have a male and female parent.

His refusal to answer suggests he is ashamed of his daughter and he likely thinks he wasn’t much of a father while pursuing money and killing animals. And Lynne’s book suggests, he wasn’t much of a husband also.

But of course Cheney is just a thug, who terrorized Americans so he could line his and his cronies pockets. He’s a bad man.

Funny how it was okay when Kerry did it in the 2004 pres debates.

Now that the shoe is on the exact opposite foot it is still okay with you democrats.

Do you only support and defend DEMOCRATIC gays and lesbians?

I am sensing a double standard here.

  54. Paul MillR says:

Cheney’s crimes are world class, up their with Pinochet, Hussein et al. My voice would probably waver, too. “Speak truth to power, even if your voice shakes”.

  55. kris kringle says:

Funny how it was okay with democrats in general and TP and posters to mock cheneys daughter in the 2004 Presidential debate when John Kerry brought up Dick Cheneys daughter. Remember?

But now that it is from the Republican side of the aisle it is still okay!

    This tells me:

Either TP jumps the fence alot or just does not truly support gays for human beings whatever their political stripe, and they are just using gays for their input and agenda, hence votes.

  56. EasyRider says:

  58. Rosencrantz says:

This is the biggest load of BS I’ve ever seen. I’ve only seen clips of this exchange, but it seems to me that Cheney isn’t mad at all when he first say it’s out of line. HE starts to get mad later when Blitzer continues with the questions…but not at the start. At the start he is acting exactly the same as with every other question.

I think Cheney used that to intimidate Blitzer into NOT asking questions that he knows expose his hypocrisy. He’s the second in command of the anti-gay party and he has a daughter doing everything that liberals want for all gays but Cheney only allows for his own family.

It was a legitimate question and Cheney is full of shiat.

No, I don’t remember Kerry “mocking” Cheney’s daughter.
No, I don’t think it’s OK for the Pharisee Christians (AKA “Christian right”) to insult Cheney’s daughter, which is what the question to Cheney addressed.
No, you don’t make any sense in your attempt to criticize TP and progressives.

Wolf my ass! He is more like Little Red Riding Hood or a abused, neutered puppy! Wimpy from Popeye is more like it! I have never seen a male denied his manhood so quickly and effectively! Geez!

As the Robert DeNiro character in Men of Honor said, “Sound off like you got a pair” puppy!

Hey, wolfie, why not say, “You are a public figure. It is fair to ask you about public statements from other public figures because it is an issue your constituency cares about!”

wolfie, you are worthless and you’re weak! You will never recover from that beatdown!

  64. kris kringle says:

Think Progress and the posters here and the whole progressive movement could give a rats ass about gays and their rights, they are pandering to them for their voting block pure and simple.

They do not mind democrats bashing gays ( John Kerry, 2004 Presidential debate on national tv )

They do not mind republicans bashing gays ( like the basis of this story )

And Dick Cheney has every much a right to protect his own daughter from anyone as did Webb getting all shitfaced when the President simply inquired about his son.

Bottom line is this. gays and lesbians are being USED by the democratic party and progressives in particular to move massive voting blocks of gays and lesbians into their corner.

    For the votes alone.

They do not give a shit about gays or lesbians. Just their vote.

How can you sit by and watch Think Progress and the progressive movement in general justy get away with this and then wax poetic on how good your gay and lesbian advocacy rights agenda has in the last 20 years.

Pretty stark and dark and damp.

  65. PatrioticLiberalChristian(PLC) says:

  66. Marcus Robinson says:

Dick Cheney is just that, A DICK!!! Your gay daughter and you crackpot wife both talked about the fact that your daughter Mary is a lesbo. The problem you and the rightwing nut jobs have is that you’re so against gays. Amazing, what you hate most will usually show up in your family somewhere. Wolf, I agree, is a pussy!!! He never even brought of the fact that he interviewed the lesbo Mary and you mentally ill wife.

  67. Squidbilly says:

At least Cheney’s defence of his daughter shows that he has some emotion and love and compassion left in him.

If only he would show some of it in the way he governs… Nah that will never happen. The way he answers questions on talk shows is always one of defiance and self righeousness without an iota of emotion.

That cold and menacing snear – his game face – will always be there!!!!

  68. D. says:

Cheney threw his daughter under the bus in that interview. Wolf asked him the question so he could condemn these Focus on the Family bigots. Instead of calling them out for their atrocious statements Cheney basically gave them a pass and tried to change the subject. What a sorry individual not to stand up for his own daughter.

  69. DallasNE says:

The only reason this is remotely an issue is because of the hypocrisy this represents. If this were the daughter of, say, Nancy Pelosi it would be a non-issue altogether. I clearly don’t understant how the question, as asked, was out of line. Cheney just doesn’t want somebody rubbing his nose in his own hypocrisy.

  70. Mark says:

KK exactly how did Kerry Attack Cheney’s daughter? Simply mentioning hher name and that she is gay? Are you as angry at people like james Dobson, a very prominent right wing religious leader with the White House numbers at his fingertips. Seems to me that all wolfy was asking was how does Cheney take in his allies attacks on his daughter. Cheney’s only response is to attack the messenger. Wolf should have followed up and asked him if that was how he responded to Dobson and other right wing hate mongers? But alas, wolf took his beating and let it go.

  71. ScrewBush says:

Regardless of how stupid Blitzer appeared or how powerful and protective Cheney appeared, the bottom line is the same. GOP elite have one set of rules for themselves and another set of rules for the rest of us.

You, me, the media, and the law please step aside and stay out of their personal lives. For the rest of us, the federal government has an ever increasing list of ever more invasive laws and actions it will sanction against your person, your lifestyle, and your property.

It was just nice to see this with my own eyes, no matter how it came about.

PS: Another day of BushCo, Another day we’re all at risk.

  72. Liberal in New Mexico says:

I was wrong, yesterday. I referred to Cheney’s wife who writes pornography as Lyn. Her name is actually Lynne. Then, Cheney has a lesbian daughter who is pregnant with a snowflake baby named Mary. She is also the incarnation of the Virgin Mary. And, Cheney also has an older, activist daughter who likes to work alongside her daddy named Liz. I don’t know any dirt on her yet, but I’m still looking. So, there’s hope-

The right wing attacks Dick Cheney’s daughter, but when Wolf Blitzer asks about it, Cheney says he’s “out of line.”

Cheney is “out of line” so often he would know what a proper line was until he was snorting it up his nose.

  74. FunMe says:

Cheney going after the press as a hog on crack is what is “out of line” … not to mention him being VP.

A heart attack is probably going to be his KARMA!

  75. Marcus Robinson says:

Wolf, sorry to see you melt like a stick of butter on a hot Arizona highway.

  76. Whitey HermAphrodite says:

Do you only support and defend DEMOCRATIC gays and lesbians?

I am sensing a double standard here.

Sensing the concept of hipocracy much? It really must be true that right wingers can’t fathom the concept.. This has nothing to do with Cheney’s daughter.. it was to do with the fact that the head of the “f#ck the gays, they don’t deserve human rights” party isn’t apprently applying that same sort of harsh judgement to his own. Its funny, this guy can lean hard on the CIA to give him imaginary info about Iraq’s WMD but hes surprisingly silent when it comes to the rabid homophobia of the people who put him in power. Boy, what a shock.
