Write Sean Hannity And Demand He Tell The Truth About 9/11
Last September, over 100,000 ThinkProgress readers demanded ABC tell the truth about 9/11. You helped expose the factual inaccuracies and partisan misrepresentations in ABC’s controversial docudrama “The Path to 9/11.”
Here we go again. This Sunday, Fox News’ Sean Hannity is planning to broadcast the fictitious scenes that ABC found unfit to air.
The original docudrama contained a false, dramatic scene where former National Security Adviser Sandy Berger refuses to give the order to the CIA to take out bin Laden. According to the bipartisan 9/11 Commission report, this scene never occurred, and several members of the 9/11 Commission criticized the scene. The conservative writer of the film was forced to acknowledge that the scene was “improvised.”
It’s one thing for Fox News to provide their usual biased political commentary. It’s another thing to promote discredited fiction as news. Sean Hannity’s executive producer told the Los Angeles Times today that Hannity and Fox News “feel the American people deserve both sides.” The only two sides in this case are fiction and fact. It’s our obligation to stand up for the facts.

I don’t give two shits what Jim Webb wrote in his book. I also don’t care about what George Allen said in college. The point is you cannot claim that you don’t care about what liberals did “decades ago” (which was, strangely, about 3.5 years ago), and then bring up what conservatives said in college during the 1970s and hold that against them.
But hey it could be worse. Allen could have gotten drunk and driven a car into a river and killed someone and then called his lawyers before finally calling the police hours later. But, then again, Dick Cheney not having a press conference in the middle of the woods immediately after he accidentally shot someone while hunting (and sober) is the end of the damn world.
The double standards are rampant, and, yes, Republicans do the exact same thing. That’s why I dislike them as well.

Generally, guess what? We don’t actually care what someone did in their private capacities. What we care about is that they don’t demonstrate a double standard about it.
The thing with the Republicans, and the reason why you have Dems bringing this stuff up is, that Republicans always try to make out as if they are the party of responsibility, of public decency and all of that crap and yet, whenever they have been given half a chance they have demonstrated that these are the precise areas where they are weakest.
Now, as a liberal (I actually do believe in balanced budgets, which can mean higher taxes, as well as public healthcare, education, enviromental protection, and letting people do as they dig provided it doesn’t hurt anyone else) I found the 2000’s personally offensive. I found it offensive that the world had gone over to people who were really trying their hardest to sound like cheesy comic-book villians (”Do-gooder” for example, implies that doing good is somehow a problem.)
I found it offensive, how all debate was stifled when it came to Iraq. How Michael Moore, for all he is a bit of a pig, essentially got called a liar, when he didn’t lie, and how Ann Coulter got defended as a voice of truth when she did lie. In real life little lies don’t lead to big truths, they just lead to bigger lies.
I found it offensive, that Bill Clinton somehow got the blame for everything that happened under GW Bush, even when better arguments were present to excuse GW Bush (Enron, you see an audited set of books, you expect the auditors to have, well, audited them.) I also found it offensive how Republicans constantly carped about Clinton, as though he was still the president.
The Republicans made the argument personal. They made it so that ultimately, if you had any awareness of what was going on, you had to either be a zombie or offended at them. Hell the President of the United States went over to France and lectured them about how they didn’t understand the pain of 9/11. I’ll tell you what the French do understand, the pain of being an occupied country.
It offended me, how todays best science got pushed aside based on religion, how religion was used as a club and how “cultural issues” became more important then practical ones. And I am not just talking about embryonic stem cells, I am talking about evolution, about how NASA ceased to become a quest for knowledge about the Earth, and about Global warming. I am talking about how Gay Marriage and flag molestation became central issues, as America engaged in two wars which were not going very well.
But what I found most offensive of all, was being called immoral in the same breath as I was being accused of caring to much about people, being called a coward for not conforming, being called anti-American for voicing concerns about how a given policy could harm America. That offended me.
The Democrats haven’t played that game, or at least if they have they haven’t to the degree that I have heard about it.

First of all, I am an Internationalist (I believe the main flaw to globalisation to be that it doesn’t go far enough, and doesn’t define labour as capital. I also believe in a singular world currency, which should probably be administered by the Swiss.)
Libertarians offer anarchy. Their basic policies would lead to nothing but grief, because much as though people are basically good, they are also basically very, very good at justifying stuff to themselves, and it is that much easier to distance yourself from your actions when you are doing it in some anonymous boardroom somewhere far removed from whatever harm you might be causing.
Personally I would rather go Green, or, more likely, form my own party based around common sense and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
